But the hearing officer recommended the board let the courts make the ultimate decision. The eight-member board‚ composed of four Democrats and four Republicans‚ agreed with a recommendation from its lawyer to let Trump remain on the ballot by determining it didn’t have the authority to determine whether he violated the U.S Constitution. Board member Catherine McCrory prefaced her vote with a statement: “I want it to be clear that this Republican believes that there was an insurrection on Jan. 6. However‚ the U.S. Supreme Court agreed to hear the case over Trump’s eligibility for the ballot. The high court will hear oral arguments in February. Per CBS News: A state trial court in Denver ruled in November that the attack on the Capitol on Jan. 6 constituted an insurrection and found Trump engaged in insurrection‚ marking the first time a judge has reached such a conclusion about his conduct. But the judge ruled that Section 3 does not apply to the presidency or someone who has taken the presidential oath‚ and ordered Trump to be listed on the primary ballot. The Colorado Supreme Court‚ though‚ reversed the lower court’s finding about the scope of Section 3 and‚ in its 4-3 decision‚ said Trump is disqualified from holding the presidency. “We do not reach these conclusions lightly. We are mindful of the magnitude and weight of the questions now before us‚” the majority wrote in its opinion. “We are likewise mindful of our solemn duty to apply the law‚ without fear or favor‚ and without being swayed by public reaction to the decisions that the law mandates we reach.” Trump and the Colorado Republican Party appealed the decision to the Supreme Court‚ urging the justices to overturn the state high court’s ruling. All parties‚ including the voters who challenged Trump’s eligibility‚ pushed the court to decide the issue swiftly. If allowed to stand‚ the Colorado Supreme Court’s ruling would “mark the first time in the history of the United States that the judiciary has prevented voters from casting ballots for the leading major-party presidential candidate‚” lawyers for the former president warned the justices in a filing. Fulton County Board of Commissioners Chairman Robb Pitts confirmed at a news briefing Monday afternoon that the outage‚ which he said affected the county’s phones‚ courts and tax systems‚ “was a result of a cybersecurity incident” and that law enforcement was investigating. “We do not yet have a specific time frame for when these systems will be restored‚” Pitts said. “At this time‚ we are not aware of any transfer of sensitive information about citizens or employees‚ but we will continue to look carefully at this issue‚” he added. “While most Fulton County offices are open‚ certain transaction types may be limited during this outage‚ including transactions using the property tax system and the justice system affecting several departments. These include e-filing as well as firearms and marriage licenses. And during a Monday appearance on MSNBC’s The Rachel Maddow Show‚ she offered to spend some of the $83.3 million she was awarded on supporting women’s rights; such as “new shoes‚” a “penthouse‚” and a luxury fishing trip in France for Maddow. Before she got to fantasizing about going on a personal “shopping” spree with Maddow‚ Carroll put on a more somber tone as she opined about how her case was about “turning our eyes to the future and taking back our rights.” “Well‚ we're fighting not really‚ Rachel‚ for me. It's now about fighting for all women. We're also fighting‚ and we salute the women and men who’ve been assaulted and who did not survive‚” she said. Adding: “We are doing this for women around the country who have been knocked down repeatedly and – So‚ it's really not about me anymore. We have moved beyond me. And as you say‚ the fight now is really to take back our future.” Maddow wanted to know how Carroll was going to achieve that stated goal of helping victimized women across the country. “You've talked about using some of Trump's money that you're about to get to help shore up women's rights. Do you know what that might be‚ what that might look like?” she wondered.     Instead of explaining how she was going to help other women‚ Carroll launched into offering to pay for the two of them to go get “new wardrobes” and how she was going to buy luxury items for her lawyers: I have such‚ such great ideas for all the good I'm going to do with this money. Elon Musk’s X has hired a new content moderation team‚ sparking free speech concerns. Soon after X (formerly Twitter) CEO Linda Yaccarino boasted about how much censorship occurs on the platform‚ Bloomberg reported that a new 100-person moderation team is coming to X. While the Texas-based team — dubbed the “Trust and Safety center of excellence” — will reportedly “mainly” deal with child sexual exploitation (CSE) content‚ the hiring of dozens of new censors raises concerns about increased censorship on X. Bloomberg noted that Yaccarino is scheduled to testify before the Democrat-controlled Senate Judiciary Committee on Jan. 31 about how her platform deals with CSE content. The outlet indicated the announcement of X’s new censorship team could be linked to Yaccarino’s upcoming Senate testimony. Despite X owner Elon Musk’s stated goals of having a free speech platform‚ his employees‚ especially Yaccarino‚ continue to censor and suppress free speech on the platform. One X executive specifically and ominously mentioned the new censors will deal with “hate speech‚” a leftist phrase for speech with which they disagree‚ Bloomberg reported. While X announced the censorship team and its CSE connection‚ no further details have been provided on what the team will be doing. X business operations head Joe Benarroch told Bloomberg that the new team won’t just focus on CSE but on censoring other content such as “hate speech.” Yaccarino recently claimed that “hate speech” was not free speech. Ironically‚ Musk declared on Monday‚ “𝕏 enables the people to define the narrative.” Will Musk’s X adhere to free speech ideals?
