Instagram and Facebook will now prevent strangers from messaging minors by default

Teens using supervised accounts will need parental permission to revert the changes. | Illustration by Nick Barclay / The Verge Meta is introducing changes to Instagram and Facebook Messenger that aim to better protect minors from unwanted contact online‚ placing greater restrictions on who can message teens while giving parents more control over their children’s security settings. Notably‚ the company announced that by default‚ teens under the age of 16 (or under 18 in some countries) will no longer be able to receive messages‚ or be added to group chats‚ by users they don’t follow or aren’t connected with on Instagram and Messenger. These new updates build upon a series of safeguards that Meta has introduced over the last year as it battles accusations that its algorithms helped turn Facebook and Instagram into a “marketplace for predators in search of children.... OLED iPad Pro production reportedly cut by 30% – is Apple expecting slow sales?

With the OLED iPad Pro expected to be announced in the upcoming months‚ we have heard much about its future specs and features. Now‚ according to a supply chain report from the Korean blog Naver user yeux1122‚ Apple is reducing by 30% the number of iPads planned. The publication says Apple initially ordered 10 million units of its OLED panel‚ but the order volume was recently adjusted to 7-8 million units. With that‚ LG Display's orders were cut in half from the original 6 million to 3 million‚ while Samsung remained with the previous 4 million units expected. Interestingly‚ previous reports have shown that LG was already shipping Apple these panels while Samsung only recently caught up with demand. It's unclear at this moment why Apple reduced LG's orders. That said‚ yeux1122 once again reports that the price for the upcoming OLED iPad Pro hasn't been determined‚ although it's "likely to rise further than the existing LCD version." In a previous report‚ they suggested that the 11-inch model could start at $1‚500 and the 13-inch version between $1‚800-$2‚000. The news aggregator suggests that the price hike is due to the price of the panels. The average price of a smartphone OLED display is around $50 to $60‚ while this OLED iPad Pro panel costs at least $200 per unit. At this moment‚ it's unclear if Apple reduced orders because the final price might make customers unsure. If the iPad Pro starts well beyond $1‚000‚ Cupertino will have to focus a lot on marketing to justify a Mac price for a product that is not as helpful as the company's computers. While we also expect the M3 chip‚ a redesign‚ new accessories‚ and better cameras‚ Apple still needs to revamp iPadOS to improve usability. We know the hardware is capable‚ but the software still lacks Mac's freedom. Pixel 9 leak teases a big upgrade for Google’s smaller phone‚ and it’s not the iPhone design

If you've seen any Galaxy S24 hands-on previews‚ you've noticed that some people liken the design of the non-Ultra models to the current iPhones. Flat sides‚ flat screen‚ and rounded corners. Even the Galaxy S24 Ultra comes with a flat screen‚ dropping the arguably only design element that made Galaxy S phones stand out‚ the curved edges.  Then came the Pixel 9 Pro design leaks that showed Google restyling its unique design element‚ the horizontal camera protrusion on the back. But otherwise‚ the Pixel 9 Pro also looks like an iPhone from afar. With that in mind‚ it's unsurprising to see the Pixel 9 renders leak‚ complete with the same camera bar as the 9 Pro and iPhone-like design. But the leak teases a big upgrade coming to Google's smaller phone. The Pixel 9 might feature the same camera module as the Pro‚ complete with a periscope camera.  Do you know who else is getting a periscope camera for the first time in its history this year? Yeah‚ the iPhone 16 Pro. Continue reading... The post Pixel 9 leak teases a big upgrade for Google’s smaller phone‚ and it’s not the iPhone design appeared first on BGR. iPhone 15 survives a bizarre bird attack in Apple’s latest ad

iPhone 15 survives a bizarre bird attack in Apple’s latest ad

In Apple's latest ad published on its Australian YouTube channel‚ the iPhone 15 survives a bizarre bird attack‚ where a woman cycling through a park loses control of her bike thanks to a bird attacking her. She loses control‚ and the iPhone 15 falls dramatically‚ getting hit by mud and gravel. Dangerous. The woman quickly grabs the phone to see if it's broken‚ but‚ of course‚ not a single scratch. Then‚ Apple shows its famous "Relax‚ it's iPhone" slogan. Over the years‚ we have seen the iPhone suffering from terrible attacks‚ including lettuce‚ vegetables‚ and fruits. In addition‚ every time Apple promotes its Ceramic Shiel technology‚ the iPhone always lands on grass or mud but never on hard floors. The reason is simple: If Apple promotes that an iPhone can get smashed on a hard floor and survive‚ everyone's iPhones that don't survive can accuse the company of misleading marketing. Apple has been promoting its Ceramic Shield technology for years. And with the iPhone 15‚ it's tougher than ever. In my experience‚ I know it's easier to scratch the iPhone 15 Pro display than crack it‚ and Cupertino has done a great job with this nanocrystal technology. Although you should always be careful with your iPhone‚ after all‚ it's made of glass (and glass always breaks)‚ users can rest assured that their devices can survive most accidental falls. Interestingly‚ over the past few months‚ Apple has been promoting the regular iPhone 15 models a lot. The company is always praising its incredible battery life‚ and it's now focusing on the Ceramic Shield. For the Pro models‚ Cupertino focuses on professional capabilities‚ such as new recording options and improved cameras. With the iPhone 16 expected to be announced eight months from now‚ the iPhone 15 lineup follows as the best investment on a smartphone you can make right now.
