Former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley criticized former President Donald Trump over the weekend over his mental fitness for office as well as the non-stop chaos that she says he’s always involved in. Haley made the remarks during a Sunday CBS News interview with Margaret Brennan on “Face The Nation” ahead of the New Hampshire primaries this week. Brennan showed video of Trump blaming Haley last week for some of the events of January 6‚ despite Haley having nothing to do with the events of that day. It appears that Trump misspoke‚ confusing Haley for then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA). “Is that the first time you questioned his mental fitness?” Brennan asked. “If you look‚ recently‚ there have been multiple things‚” Haley said. “I mean‚ he’s claimed that Joe Biden was going to get us into World War II. I’m assuming he met World War III. He said that he ran against President Obama. He never ran against President Obama. He says that I’m the one that kept security from Jan- from the Capitol on January 6. I was nowhere near the Capitol on January 6. But Margaret‚ you don’t be surprised if you have someone that’s 80 in office‚ their mental stability is going to continue to decline.” She said that while she served in the Trump administration‚ she did not see anything that made her question Trump’s mental fitness for office but said at times she had to call him out on things and encourage him to make different decisions. She said that Trump is not at the same level as he was in 2016 and that the bigger problem was that “no matter what it is‚ chaos follows him. And so what happens is that puts the rest of America in chaos‚ and people are tired‚ and they’re worried. I mean‚ kids right now in their 20s‚ they don’t know if they’re ever going to be able to afford a home. They don’t know how this debt is gonna get paid down. They don’t know if they’re gonna find a job. You see people living- 60% of Americans living paycheck to paycheck. People talk about the economy that Donald Trump had us in‚ it was good‚ but he put us $8 trillion in debt in just four years. That’s not what you do.”

Arkansas Republican Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders would not dismiss being a potential vice presidential pick when asked over the weekend. Margaret Brennan asked Sanders the question during a Sunday interview on CBS News’s “Face The Nation” as speculation builds about who former President Donald Trump‚ should he win the Republican Party presidential primary‚ would pick as his running mate. “Look‚ I absolutely love the job I have‚” Sanders said. “I think it’s one of the best jobs I could ever ask for. And I am honored to serve as governor‚ and I hope I get to do it for the next seven years.” Sanders also weighed in on the prospect of having two elderly candidates being the frontrunners for their respective parties in Trump and President Joe Biden. “I think this election right now is very simple‚” she said. “It’s a very clear contrast‚ you have two individuals who have a four-year record to run on. One has a record of success coming from a posture and a position of strength in Donald Trump‚ and one who comes from a position of weakness. North Dakota Republican Governor Doug Burgum defended former President Donald Trump during an interview on Sunday over a variety of issues ranging from his stolen election claims to his recent criticized comments on the campaign trail. Burgum‚ who endorsed Trump last week‚ made the remarks during an interview with Martha Raddatz on ABC News’ “This Week.” When asked if he was endorsing Trump because he believes the former president has the best chance of uniting the country‚ Burgum highlighted the numerous crises that have unfolded under President Joe Biden and noted that things were largely better under Trump. When pressed about Trump’s claims that the 2020 election was stolen‚ which Burgum has said in the past that he disagrees with‚ the governor pointed to “irregularities” that he said happened in 2020 but then made clear that he is “not saying” that the election was stolen. “I know that we’ve got certainly irregularities‚” said Burgum. “When we went through COVID‚ and had these mail-out ballots‚ that creates all kinds of opportunities for mischief. When you’re mailing out more ballots in a state than there are registered voters…” Asked by Raddatz‚ “Do you think the election was stolen now‚ sir?” Burgum responded‚ “No‚ I’m not saying that. I’m saying that we have to‚ going forward‚ we have to make sure that Americans have confidence in these elections.” Raddatz then pressed him on Trump’s new nickname for Haley‚ “Nimarata‚” which is her birth name‚ adding that Trump has “reposted false conspiracy theories” that claim she’s not illegible to run due to her parent’s immigrant status despite being born in South Carolina. “Why do you think he is doing this?” Raddatz asked. Burgum responded by saying name-calling and mockery in politics was “all in the norm” for the U.S. He also highlighted instances where Democrats have gotten personal with each other during their primaries and examples of Democrats making personal attacks against Trump. A senior official in President Joe Biden‘s re-election campaign shrugged off on Sunday warning signs that black voters are turning away from the incumbent. Quentin Fulks‚ who serves as Biden’s principal deputy campaign manager‚ took on a question from ABC’s Martha Raddatz about why the support for Biden among black voters is dipping — as is shown in polling. “I think what a lot of people are expressing is urgency. They sense a sense of urgency because of the threat that Republicans posed to‚ you know‚ America right now and that’s precisely why the president and the vice president are running for reelection to make sure that that doesn’t happen‚” Fulks said on “This Week.” “When it comes to African American voters‚ I want to be very clear about this‚ that no administration has done as much for the African American community‚ as President Biden and Vice President Harris‚” Fulks added. Polling in recent months indicates black voters‚ particularly young people‚ are not as energized about Biden as they were in 2020 and may be warming up to former President Donald Trump‚ who is running again as the GOP frontrunner‚ including in battleground states. Rep. Jim Clyburn (D-SC)‚ a leading black congressman who supports Biden‚ recently said he is “very concerned” about black voter turnout and breaking through the “MAGA wall” to emphasize certain acts such as cancelling student loan debt. Vice President Kamala Harris has also emphasized messaging is a key challenge. Fulks talked about the need to tout areas in which the Biden team believes progress has been made in addressing the concerns of the black community — such as addressing the racial wealth gap — and stopping Republicans from “ripping away” healthcare. “We have to continue to take this message directly to African-American voters and our campaign has done that.” He added‚ “We’ve come out of the gate with very large buys targeted at African American voters‚ organizing in their communities to send a clear signal that one‚ we don’t take them for granted‚ two‚ we recognize that we need to earn their support in this campaign‚ and communicate with them all the way.”
