Reps. Ted Lieu and Adam Schiff want to ban rodent glue traps

Democratic Reps. Ted Lieu and Adam Schiff of California are pushing a bill to ban the sale and use of glue traps to catch rodents. "Glue traps are ruthless‚ inhumane‚ and can be dangerous to the health of humans and their pets‚" Lieu said‚ according to a press release. "There are numerous other ways to trap small animals that don’t prolong their suffering. As a proud member of the Animal Protection Caucus‚ I'm pleased to introduce this bill to stop the needless suffering of these animals."The press release indicates that Schiff is an original cosponsor. He is currently running for U.S. Senate.People responded to a post about the proposal on social media."Democrats won't secure the border or stop the human trafficking of the Mexican drug cartels‚ but they will propose laws to protect literal rats‚" Sean Davis tweeted."It's very comforting to know that our politicians are focused on protecting the well being and dignity of rats‚" Matt Walsh wrote."Man that’s okay with brutally murdering babies is now concerned with how we kill rodents‚ calling it 'inhumane‚'" someone tweeted‚ along with a clown face emoji. — (@) People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals‚ or PETA‚ supports the proposal."PETA thanks Rep. Ted Lieu for his compassion and leadership in introducing the Glue Trap Prohibition Act of 2024‚" PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman said‚ according to Lieu's press release. "This crucial legislation can help protect vulnerable species of wildlife and save tens of thousands of small animals each year from being injured‚ permanently disabled‚ and killed by dehydration‚ injury or starvation in these primitive‚ cruel traps."Like Blaze News? Woman shoots and kills man trying to break into her apartment in broad daylight‚ Oklahoma police say

Neighbors of an Oklahoma woman were shocked to discover that she had shot and killed a home intruder on Friday. Bartlesville Police said that they had received a 911 call from the woman saying that there was a man trying to break into her apartment‚ and then‚ moments later‚ she told them that she had shot him. They said the man died and only added that he was 23 years old. The woman told police that she did not know the man prior to the shooting. Bartlesville Police Captain Daniel Elkins told KOTV-TV that Oklahoma law allows residents to use lethal force if they feel they are under threat from a home intruder. “It’s very unfortunate‚ and we’re glad no one else was hurt in the process‚" he said. "The homeowner felt like they had to do what was necessary‚ and that’s ultimately their choice.” Police said they interviewed the woman and ultimately released her‚ but it's up to the district attorney as to whether charges might be filed against her. Laci Robertson lives in the neighborhood‚ and she told KOTV that one of her children had just walked by the home before the shooting. “With that happening just right here‚ you never know when a stray bullet or something could go on‚" said Robertson. "You know there’s things that happen‚ but you just don’t really think it’s going to happen so close to home.” She went on to say that she hoped the incident would deter other would-be criminals. “You live in a place‚ and you think ‘oh‚ we’re safe here‚"' she added. "'It’s fine.’ But the world is just getting more and more crazy every day.” Bartlesville is a city of about 37‚000 people in the northern part of the state. Father witnesses children electrocuted to death as power line falls on car‚ baby survives freak accident: 'It just hurts'

Three people were electrocuted to death when a power line fell on a car in Portland‚ Oregon. A baby being held by his father somehow survived the freak accident. Around 11:45 a.m. on Wednesday‚ emergency crews responded to 911 calls about a person on fire in a street in Northeast Portland. The family’s neighbor‚ who witnessed the tragic scene‚ said a man was unloading his 9-month-old baby from the family's SUV when a branch broke because of an ice storm. The falling tree branch caused a power line to smash into the vehicle. KPTV reported‚ "The fallen line sparked a small fire under or near the car‚ and the baby’s mother yelled for the man to get her child back out of the car and to safety. As the father did so‚ he slipped on the ice and fell‚ his feet hitting the live power line. The toddler’s mother ran to help them‚ and she too slipped and fell‚ hitting the line. Where they touched the line‚ smoke began to rise."Portland Fire and Rescue members found the bodies of three people lying in the street approximately 35 feet away from the vehicle‚ according to KTVL.Emergency crews attempted to perform life-saving procedures on the individuals‚ but they all died. A power line was draped over the hood of the full-sized SUV with a large branch on the top of the power line.Rick Graves of Portland Fire and Rescue explained‚ "The vehicle was electrified‚ so when they touched the ground and the vehicle‚ the electrical current ran through them‚ and the end result is we have three deceased individuals."The baby's mother was killed in the freak accident‚ and the 21-year-old mom was six months pregnant at the time of her death. The mother's 15-year-old brother — Ta’Ron Briggs — also died. The mother's boyfriend — who was the father of the infant — also passed away. Ronald Briggs — the father of Ta’Ron and the young mother — said he and his wife were headed to the grocery store when they heard a loud sound. "We heard a loud boom. And my wife’s like‚ 'Oh my god‚ their car is on fire‚'" Briggs told KGW.Briggs explained‚ "They were walking up the hill and they slid back down. My daughter tried to grab her boyfriend‚ her baby's dad with the baby‚ and his foot touched the wire."Ta’Ron allegedly slid from the ice and touched water — which electrocuted him to death as well. Briggs said‚ "It just hurts. Seeing my kids dying — I can’t do nothing about it.""I have six kids‚ I lost two of them in one day‚" the grieving father added.A neighbor‚ Majiah Washington‚ rushed to save the baby — who was still in the arms of the father. "In my mind‚ I’m just thinking 'I have to get this baby.' That’s the only thing I was thinking: 'I have to get this baby‚'" Washington recalled. The 9-month-old was rushed to a local hospital and is said to be in good condition.Briggs stated‚ "His dad saved his life — he laid on top of his dad."Like Blaze News? Lost 4‚000-year-old tomb rediscovered in Ireland

A local folklorist has discovered the remnants of a Bronze Age tomb that was believed to have been destroyed in the mid-19th century. The megalithic structure known as Altóir na Gréine (the altar of the sun) was built on top of a hill outside the village of Ballyferriter‚ County Kerry‚ about 4‚000 years ago. It was a wedge tomb‚ a funerary monument containing the cinerary remains of a family or community group but may also have been used for other ceremonial purposes. This style of tomb is typically oriented to the west or southwest and may have had a cosmological connection to the setting sun‚ hence its traditional appellation. It was still intact in 1838 when it was visited as a local attraction by Victorian writer and world traveler Lady Georgiana Chatterton. She recounted her visit‚ complete with a sketch of the “sun altar‚” in her best-selling travel memoir Rambles in the South of Ireland. On the top of the hill were the remains of a very curious piece of antiquity‚ once an altar‚ supposed to have been used for offering sacrifices to the sun. We heartily wished we could have had an opportunity of telling the sun‚ before hand‚ of our intention of visiting his altar; for a more thick‚ penetrating rain I think never was experiences‚ than fell to our lot while poking over the remains of the old stones‚ and taking the sketch which is here given. Inspired by Lady Chatterton’s record of her ramble‚ Kerry antiquarian Richard Hitchcock visited the hill site in 1852 seeking what he called the cromleac (literally “bent stone” meaning a megalithic tomb with two standing stones topped by a capstone) that she had sketched. I regret to say that this cromleac‚ or‚ as Lady Chatterton calls it‚ “sun altar‚” does not now exist‚ the stones which composed it having been broken and carried away for building purposes‚ as if there were no others in the neighbourhood! It is‚ however‚ fortunate that we have even a small engraving of the monument preserved to us. That last line proved prescient. The location of the lost tomb disappeared from collective memory and nobody had ever noted its coordinates when it was still apparent on the landscape. It was Lady Chatterton’s sketch that bore mute witness to its presence 185 years later when folklorist Billy Mag Fhloinn came across megalithic stones on a tomb-mapping project on the Dingle peninsula run by Sacred Heart University. He was very familiar with the drawing and specifically had it in mind when he climbed the hill looking for the long-lost Altóir na Gréine and filmed the stones he saw there. When converting the video into a 3D scan he noticed that a stone in the undergrowth resembled one from Lady Chatterton’s Victorian-era sketch. He sent the material to the National Monuments Service in Dublin‚ which dispatched archaeologist Caimin O’Brien‚ who confirmed it belonged to a so-called wedge tomb dating from the early bronze age between 2500BC and 2000 BC. There is a capstone and several large upright stones called orthostats‚ comprising about a quarter of the original tomb‚ Mag Fhloinn said on Thursday. “People had assumed it was all destroyed.”

Chris Christie Joins Trump Campaign as Food Taster

In a masterstroke of political chess‚ former President Donald J. Trump has taken preemptive measures to protect himself from the potential escalation of left-wing lunacy following his impressive showing at the Iowa caucus. Trump‚ renowned for his strategic thinking‚ has recruited Chris Christie as his personal food taster for the 2024 campaign. As rumors swirled about the heightened levels of crazy Trump might face‚ the former president decided to bring in the big guns‚ or in this case‚ the big appetites. Christie‚ famous for his robust culinary enthusiasm‚ seemed the perfect fit for the role. At a press conference announcing the strategic hire‚ Trump declared‚ “I always think many steps ahead. Chris is not just a political ally; he’s an ally in the battle against hunger – and potential poisoning. No one can savor a dish like him‚ and that’s why he’s the best candidate for the job.” Christie‚ visibly thrilled about his new role‚ stated‚ “I am just thankful that the one talent I have can be used for good. Besides‚ who is better at eating than me?” He then added with a chuckle‚ “The only condition is that the job is ‘taster‚’ not ‘finisher.’ Gotta leave some for the president‚ you know?” Political analysts are hailing this move as a stroke of genius‚ demonstrating Trump’s ability to think outside the conventional political playbook. Only time will tell if Christie’s taste buds will become the unsung heroes of the 2024 campaign‚ protecting the president from left-wing lunacy and potential culinary catastrophes.
