Handlers jump into action when unpredictable “tangle up” occurs among Clydesdale horses

The Unpredictable Nature of Animal Handling In the world of animal handling‚ one golden rule stands out: always expect the unexpected. The biggest challenge lies in the fact that animals‚ unlike humans‚ cannot communicate their needs verbally. This can lead to unforeseen difficulties‚ even for the most skilled and experienced handlers. It’s a world where... New York governor proposes budget‚ including $2.4 billion for migrant crisis in NYC while cutting aid to some schools

New York governor proposes budget‚ including $2.4 billion for migrant crisis in NYC while cutting aid to some schools

Democrat New York Gov. Kathy Hochul is proposing to allocate $2.4 billion to address the migrant crisis in New York City even as she calls for cuts in aid to some schools. Hochul unveiled a budget proposal that totaled $233 billion to the state legislature in Albany on Tuesday. "New York continues to carry the burden of sheltering more than 69‚000 migrants‚" said Hochul. "We must support the mayor of New York in this moment." The plan includes $1 billion to reimburse the city for expenses related to the migrant crisis‚ $500 million to help pay for services like health care and security for migrants‚ and $400 million to pay for migrant shelters. The budget also proposes to cut aid to some schools‚ according to Budget Director Blake Washington. He said that the government had a "hold harmless" practice that guaranteed schools they would not receive less aid from one year to the next‚ but that was being suspended. “We’re trying to moderate our spending to match the cash on hand‚” Washington said in a statement to Newsday. “We want to spend the money wisely.” However‚ overall school spending will increase by 2.4% to $35.3 billion. Hochul said that she would also head to Washington‚ D.C.‚ in order to demand that the federal government do more to address the migrant crisis. Polls have shown that Democratic voters blame politicians on the left for the adverse effects of the influx of migrants. The final budget will need to be approved by the legislature and must be completed by April. Hochul had been previously engaged in a very public feud with the mayor of New York City‚ who has complained that the state hasn't done enough to support the city's efforts to deal with migrants. Hochul has fired back that the city is better prepared to deal with migrants than the more rural areas of the state. On Tuesday‚ Mayor Adams approved a plan to implement curfews at migrant shelters in order to address complaints from residents. Here's more about the New York budget: Like Blaze News? Police search for suspect who allegedly lit a man on fire near the US Capitol in broad daylight

Law enforcement officials are asking for the public's help to identify a man they say lit another man on fire near the U.S. Capitol in broad daylight. The heinous incident unfolded on Monday at about 3:05 p.m. at the intersection of North Capitol Street and P Street Northwest‚ about a mile away from the U.S. Capitol building. Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department's Criminal Investigations Division said that the victim was sitting at a bus stop when another approached him and doused him with a liquid. “The suspect then ignited the liquid‚” investigators said. “The suspect then ran off.” The victim sustained serious injuries and was treated at a local hospital. Police have not said whether the victim knew the suspect nor have they said what the man's motivation might have been. Neither of their identities have been released. An image of the suspect was released by police showing him walking with what appears to be a glass jar in his hand. “The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $10‚000 to anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for a violent crime committed in the District of Columbia‚” said police. Washington‚ D.C.‚ is one of the most crime-ridden areas of the U.S.‚ according to official statistics released recently. The Metropolitan Police Department said that violent crime had increased by 39% in 2023. Property crime had also risen by 24%. D.C. had also documented 274 killings in 2023‚ which was the highest murder rate since 1997. That also means D.C. has the fifth-highest murder rate among larger cities in the U.S. The D.C. Council is considering passing a set of public safety regulations intended to address the spiraling crime problem‚ but critics say they are merely doubling down on policies that have already failed.
