A Prayer to Share Why We PrayBy Chelsey DeMatteis “Be joyful in hope‚ patient in affliction‚ faithful in prayer.” – Romans 12:12 This title seems odd‚ right? Why would people want to know the reasons someone prays? Well‚ I believe when someone knows why we pray and who or what we're praying for‚ they get a glimpse into who we are and what God is doing in our lives. When people know some of the areas of our life we struggle in‚ they too can see God desires to hear their hearts. They can also witness your testimony taking place through what God is working out. And honestly‚ it doesn’t get more beautiful than that – God drawing His children near through His grace and mercy.  Two scriptures the Lord has used to shape me and my view of prayer are James 4:7 and 2 Corinthians 10:5. James 4:7 tells us‚ "Submit to Jesus‚ resist the devil‚ and he will flee." Corinthians 10:5 tells us‚ "We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God‚ and take every thought captive to obey Christ." These truths remind me to speak out loud and in my Spirit who’s in charge – Jesus‚ not me. All I’m in charge of is walking in obedience and choosing Him‚ resisting the temptations of the enemy‚ and trusting that Satan will flee in Jesus’ name.  A few topics came to mind when writing this reveal‚ all the more‚ why prayer has become so important to me and why we need to share with others the importance of praying and to the Lord. Personally‚ I get caught up in patterns of toxic thoughts. Whether it’s been a seed sown by a lie someone spoke‚ something derogatory I saw on a show years ago‚ or Satan trying to distract me with awful thoughts that would never be a reality‚ this is what I deal with. When I’m not in the posture of an ongoing conversation with the Lord‚ my mind can easily become derailed by one of these.  My former sinful life used to rule over me. I lived in the lie that there were things about me I couldn’t change; it’s just who I was. I was‚ in fact‚ correct about one part of that statement – I couldn’t change myself‚ BUT Jesus could‚ and He did. Living under that lie for so long gave me much to work through. Choosing prayer through this struggle led me to 1 Corinthians 10:13. No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful‚ and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability‚ but with the temptation‚ he will also provide a way of escape so that you may be able to endure it. Once I learned this truth‚ I began praying it when I faced and still face the temptations of the world.  When my life seems challenging‚ I find myself clinging to prayer. I remember the season I was pregnant with our son‚ and most of his first year of life‚ I had a hard time opening the Word. My Bible sat for months at a time. However‚ the one thing that never got dusty or set aside was my prayer life. That year and nine months were one of the most intimate seasons of prayer I had with The Lord‚ and it brought me back to His Word.  Romans 12:12 says‚ “Be joyful in hope‚ patient in affliction‚ faithful in prayer.” This became a reality for me. While I never want a season of my Bible being set aside like that again‚ and I’d never recommend it to someone else‚ my prayer life changed in the deepest way‚ and I once again saw the need to engage frequently and fervently with my Creator. It's true … my faith life would be dull without prayer. God shows up in the most tender ways when we share our hearts with Him. Sometimes‚ the prayers don’t even have to be spoken; He knows the words before they leave my tongue. So when thoughts are swirling‚ sin begins to invade‚ and my walk is in a season of struggle‚ I know one thing‚ I can always turn to Jesus.  I can always speak His Word‚ open my Bible‚ and walk in truth.  I pray this has reminded you that your prayer life matters. It will change your faith‚ it will change your relationship with God‚ deepen your desire to share your testimony‚ and it will reveal things about you that you’d miss otherwise.  Let's pray: Lord‚ thank you for allowing us and calling us to pray. Prayer is a gift and something that needs to be a first thought‚ not an afterthought. I ask that my heart be turned toward truth and that my heart would be emboldened to share with others why I pray. Just days ahead of the Iowa Caucuses‚ former President Trump launched his first public attacks against Vivek Ramaswamy. Trump and his campaign maligned Ramaswamy as a "fraud‚" who does not represent the MAGA movement. Ramaswamy had been extremely supportive of Trump‚ and often slammed other Republican challengers. Trump delivered a scathing critique of Ramaswamy in a post shared on the Truth Social platform. "Vivek started his campaign as a great supporter‚ ‘the best President in generations‚’ etc‚” Trump said on Saturday night. “Unfortunately‚ now all he does is disguise his support in the form of deceitful campaign tricks. Very sly‚ but a vote for Vivek is a vote for the ‘other side’ — don’t get duped by this.""Vote for ‘TRUMP‚’ don’t waste your vote! Vivek is not MAGA‚" Trump ranted. "The Biden Indictments against his Political Opponent will never be allowed in this Country‚ they are already beginning to fall! MAGA!!!”Earlier in the day‚ Ramaswamy posted a photo on social media of him with six supporters wearing t-shirts with the slogan: "Save Trump‚ Vote Vivek." — (@) Chris LaCivita – Trump’s senior campaign advisor – commented on Ramaswamy's photo and stressed that "Trump doesn't need 'saving.'" LaCivita also called Vivek's campaign a "fraud‚" and stated: "If you support Donald Trump you sure as hell don't vote for this FAKE."Ramaswamy responded to Trump's criticisms in a post shared on the X social media platform‚ and labeled the attack on him as "unfortunate‚" but refused to go on the offensive against the former president. "It’s an unfortunate move by his campaign advisors‚ I don’t think friendly fire is helpful‚" Ramaswamy began. I pledged to remove myself from Maine’s &; Colorado’s primary ballots if they remove Trump‚ calling on DeSantis and Haley to do the same."Without naming names‚ Ramaswamy claimed that "billionaires" are funding the lawsuits against Trump and "trying to prop up Nikki Haley."He also said that the mainstream media desires a "two-horse race" between Trump and Haley‚ but will "eliminate Trump (one way or other)" before the 2024 election so Haley can become president. "Our movement must live on. America-First didn’t start in 2016. It started in 1776‚" Ramaswamy concluded. "We owe it to our Founding Fathers to do the right thing for our country. I want to save Trump and to save this country. Let’s do it together. You won’t hear any friendly fire from me."Trump faces 91 felony counts in four criminal cases.Ramaswamy reportedly has a strategy of staying in the race as long as possible in case Trump drops out‚ and attempt to convert his supporters. The Wall Street Journal reported‚ "Ramaswamy’s plan is essentially to wait it out to take over the former president’s voter base‚ should the former president become ineligible to run due to his many legal challenges."According to polling‚ Trump has enjoyed a comfortable lead over the rest of his Republican challengers. Meanwhile‚ Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley are battling each other for second place‚ and Ramaswamy is in fourth place with support in the single-digits. A Vermont state trooper made a heroic rescue of an 8-year-old from an icy pond.Two sisters were playing on a frozen pond when they fell into the water in northwestern Vermont. An 80-year-old homeowner was able to pull the younger girl to shore‚ but the neighbor was unable to swim and couldn't save the older sister. The elderly man contacted the police. Vermont State Trooper Michelle Archer responded to an emergency call about a small child plunging into a frigid pond on private property in Cambridge‚ Vermont. Archer was in the area and arrived at the scene within five minutes after the 911 call was made. Archer retrieved a rope and flotation device from her police cruiser. The state trooper noticed the motionless girl in the middle of the pond‚ as seen in the police bodycam video. Despite the freezing temperatures‚ Archer jumped into the icy water to rescue the 8-year-old girl. Archer swam to the helpless girl in the bone-chillingly cold water and rescued the girl by bringing her back to the snow-covered shore. The child snapped back to life and began making noises after being rescued from the freezing water. A second state trooper arrived at the scene as Archer was bringing her out of the water. The second Vermont state trooper carried the girl to an ambulance that was already there. The girl was rushed to the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington‚ Vermont. Despite her injuries first thought to be life-threatening‚ the girl has made a complete recovery and returned home within several days. "There wasn’t a whole lot of thinking going on. Something was taking over – training. It was the opposite of panic‚" Archer told local outlet Vermont News First.Vermont State Police officials commended Archer‚ trooper Keith Cote‚ and the homeowner “for their selfless‚ heroic conduct‚ and all three have been recommended to receive the agency’s Lifesaving Award."
