35 New Species Of Bacteria Found Lurking In Human Samples

More than 30 new-to-science species of bacteria have been discovered in patient samples at the University Hospital Basel‚ Switzerland. Some of these are clinically relevant‚ and so could open up new avenues of research for those seeking to better understand‚ or find treatments for‚ the associated infections. The findings also highlight just how many pathogens are still out there‚ yet to be defined – something that needs to be addressed if we’re to get to grips with tackling the wealth of bacterial infections that plague our species. Knowing what causes these conditions makes treating them much easier‚ which is why studies such as this most recent one are so important.“Such direct links between newly identified species of bacteria and their clinical relevance have rarely been published in the past‚” lead author Dr Daniel Goldenberger explained in a statement.Goldenberger and co-authors have been collecting and analyzing patient samples since 2014‚ studying a total of 61 unknown bacterial pathogens from people with a range of medical conditions. However‚ sequencing these bacterial genomes proved to be a struggle: traditional methods failed to yield results‚ so the team had to turn to a relatively new method for their analysis. They then used an algorithm to compare the sequences with known strains‚ identifying 35 new species. Of these‚ 27 were isolated from deep tissue specimens or blood cultures – and‚ crucially‚ seven were clinically relevant‚ meaning that they can cause infections in humans. The remaining 26 bacteria were classed as “difficult to identify”.Most of the newly identified species belonged to two genera: Corynebacterium (six species) and Schaalia (five species).“Many species in these two genera are found in the natural human skin microbiome and the mucosa. This is why they are frequently underestimated‚ and research into them is sparse‚” added Goldenberger. However‚ they can present a threat to our health if they enter the bloodstream. It’s not just the newly discovered species that piqued the teams’ interest. One of the “difficult to identify” bacteria that was found in a dog bite wound on a patient’s thumb is‚ the researchers assume‚ a “novel and emerging pathogen”. It was first isolated from wounds caused by dog or cat bites by a Canadian group in 2022.Despite their successes‚ the teams’ work is ongoing‚ as they continue to collect and sequence unknown pathogens from patients at the University Hospital Basel. In fact‚ more than 20 additional new species have already been added to their list – which will hopefully help improve future diagnosis and treatment of infections.“Publicly available clinical and genomic data may help to better understand [bacterial organisms’] clinical and ecological role‚” the study authors write in their conclusion. “Our identification of 35 novel strains‚ seven of which appear to be clinically relevant‚ shows the wide range of undescribed pathogens yet to define.”The study is published in the journal BMC Microbiology.

Avi Loeb reveals huge hints from credible source ‘something is out there’

A leading Harvard astrophysicist has opened up on “hints” from officials suggesting there is “something out there”. Avi Loeb joined Patrick Christys on GB News to look ahead at the House Oversight Committee’s classified briefing on UFOs. Asked by the GB News presenter about reports suggesting the Government has knowledge of recovered UFOs‚ Loeb admitted there is no “direct evidence”. He did‚ however‚ suggest that those in higher up positions have indicated such a theory is not “completely wrong”. “I haven’t seen any direct evidence”‚ he said. “But I had a visit of a few people from Washington DC. One of them happened to be a high level official. “I asked him if there is any truth to the possibility that perhaps some commercial entities have any materials the government has provided them with to study. “I was expecting him to say it’s complete nonsense‚ but actually he suggested it may not be. There are these hints from people that suggest there might be something out there. “I haven’t seen anything‚ but a lot of credible people talk about it. So we’ll just have to wait.” Conspiracy theories regarding the whereabouts or existence of extraterrestrial lifeforms have long circulated‚ and Loeb believes the US Government may be aware of more than it lets on. “The government monitors the sky for national security purposes”‚ he said. “Whereas scientists‚ astronomers for example‚ look at small regions of the sky at very distant sources of light. “If something flies overhead‚ astronomers ignore it. If there is something over there‚ it’s the government that would be the first to notice it.” One popular theory is that a secret government facility is holding alien spacecraft and lifeforms at Area 51 in the Mojave desert. While the top secret base is the subject of much discussion‚ it is rarely referred to by senior officials in the public sphere. Unfunny Golden Globes Host Jokes that 'White People Stole Everything!'

Unfunny Golden Globes Host Jokes that 'White People Stole Everything!'

On Sunday‚ a painfully unfunny comedian named Jo Koy hosted the 81st annual Golden Globe awards on CBS. Anyone who hadn't heard of Koy before the ceremony will want to forget him now that it's over.   Koy didn't make it five minutes into his opening monologue before attacking white people. After mentioning director Martin Scorsese's nominated film about native Americans‚ Killers of the Flower Moon‚ Koy went on a rant about whites. Koy: The one thing I learned about that movie is that white people stole everything! You guys stole everything! Not‚ like‚ 97%. You guys stole 100% of everything. You took the land‚ you took the oil -- you took the premise for the movie. [Laughter] What‚ that was your premise? That's hilarious‚ I don't care. It's just that the room is really white. The room is like‚ "Yeah‚ we did take it. And?" His comedic bit went downhill from there to the point where he began blaming other writers for all the lines that fell flat.  Unlike Koy‚ other comedians during the evening managed to actually be funny or genuinely daring. Jim Gaffigan‚ who presented the award for Best Performance in Stand-Up Comedy on Television‚ took a surprise shot at Hollywood's reputation for harboring pedophiles. Gaffigan: You know‚ this is so exciting for me‚ the Golden Globes. I mean‚ I can't even believe I'm in the entertainment industry. I can't. It is so unlikely. I'm from a small town in Indiana. I'm not a pedophile. [Laughter] You know? I just...I don't know if that's a new category here‚ but I'm here to present an all new category. All right? Gaffigan announced Ricky Gervais as the stand-up performance winner for the Netflix special Armageddon. In 2020‚ Gervais famously mocked Hollywood's relationship with convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein during his opening monologue as host. It was the last time the Golden Globes chose a funny emcee. Notably‚ Gervais did not attend last night's ceremony to receive his award. Later in the evening‚ anti-white "jokes" reared their ugly head again‚ this time during the announcement for Best Limited Series. Presenters Issa Rae and Simu Liu‚ who played a Barbie and Ken doll‚ respectively‚  in the summer blockbuster Barbie‚ brought up "white people roles." Rae: We may not have been what first popped up in people’s minds when they thought of Barbie or Ken‚ but that’s changed‚ and we’re hoping to continue to push the boundaries of the roles we can play. Liu: By that‚ of course‚ we mean white people roles. Hollywood will not give the race obsession a rest. It is all so tiresome. The ceremony's best moments came with well-established stars who achieved fame before woke identity politics destroyed Tinseltown. Seasoned television stars Keri Russell and Ray Romano‚ for example‚ had a charming interplay of dialogue as they presented the award for Best Supporting Male Actor. Some Twitter users even wondered if the duo could host instead. Any other host or hosts would be an improvement over Jo Koy. Koy managed to be even more cringe-worthy than 2023's host‚ Jerrod Carmichael‚ who told that year's audience that he only got the gig "because I'm black."  Is it really so hard to find a host who can entertain an audience without insulting white people or making it all about race? Or is it the writers of the show that just can't help themselves when it comes to virtue signaling? The Golden Globes could possibly revitalize itself in the future if it ditched the anti-white bigotry and stuck to handing out awards. In the future‚ they need to find a host who cares more about being funny than about pushing a racial agenda.

Saints coach Dennis Allen apologizes to now-fired Falcons coach for players' insubordination: 'That's unacceptable'

The New Orleans Saints crushed the Atlanta Falcons Sunday‚ marking a bitter end both to the Falcons' season and to Arthur Smith's tenure as the team's head coach. Afterwards‚ Saints head coach Dennis Allen apologized to Smith — not for New Orleans' decisive victory‚ but for his players' last-minute insubordination. The Saints were leading the Falcons 41-17 when New Orleans safety Tyrann Mathieu intercepted a pass by Falcons quarterback Logan Woodside and ran it down the field to the 1-yard line. Allen and Saints offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael wanted their players to take a knee and run out the clock‚ with just 1:13 remaining. However‚ a link broke in the chain of command. Backup quarterback Jameis Winston‚ tasked with taking the final snap in victory formation‚ evidently did not care much for his coaches' sportsmanlike instructions. Rather than take a knee‚ he handed off the ball to Jamaal Williams‚ who secured another touchdown. Take it away Jamaal \xf0\x9f\x98\x8f\n\n#Saints | \xf0\x9f\x93\xba: CBS — (@) Coach Smith was visibly apoplectic‚ storming over to Allen to stress the apparent effort to rub salt in he Falcons' wounds was "f***ing bull****." Smith also skipped the postgame handshake. — (@) "They can do whatever they want‚" Smith told reporters after the game‚ when pressed about the last-minute touchdown. "There are no rules against it. Like I said‚ we didn't stop them in the second half‚ and they can do what they want. It is what it is." "Hats off to them‚ they kicked our you-know-what in the second half and made us pay‚" continued Smith. "That's their prerogative. It's also my prerogative to tell them how I feel. Whether people like that or not‚ oh well. Credit to them. They can do what they want there." The last-minute touchdown was not‚ however‚ what the Saints coaches wanted. Allen stressed after the game‚ "That was not a play that we intended to run down there to finish off the game." Nola.com characterized the insubordination that concluded the 48-17 game as a "difference of opinion‚" indicating the 11 men on the field reached a collective decision to give Williams his first and only rushing touchdown this season. Williams succeeded in securing touchdowns with the Detroit Lions but has not replicated that success since joining the Saints as a free agent in the spring. "We made a collective decision that we wanted to get one of our guys who they fight with — blood‚ sweat and tears‚ every game — in the end zone‚" said Winston. "And I'm going to feel good about that." "The intention was never to be disrespectful‚" said center Erik McCoy. "I understand them being pissed off‚ that makes sense. But for us‚ it was about getting one of the most selfless players in our locker room — that essentially moved to fullback when Adam Prentice went down and is going through blocking linebackers‚ busting his ass for this team since the day he got here and came in with a positive attitude — a touchdown." ESPN reported that Allen was made aware of the players' feelings on the matter but overruled them. "We put victory [formation] out there‚ and guys kind of wanted to get him a touchdown. They did that on their own‚ and that's unacceptable‚" said Allen. "That's not who we are‚" Allen said of Winston's decision. "That's not how we operate. We should have taken a knee‚ so I want to apologize to them. We have a good rivalry‚ and it's a heated rivalry‚ but there's a way we go about doing our business. I wasn't happy about that." Dennis Allen started off his presser by apologizing to Arthur Smith for the end-of-game TD. The play was supposed to be a kneel-down \xe2\x80\xa6 but the players were committed to getting Jamaal Williams a touchdown. Bizarre situation‚ to say the least. #Saints — (@) Winston later gave a pseudo-apology to his coach but indicated he had no regrets. "This is the thing: This is about the team. It's not about regrets. It's not about anything else. It's about us as a team making a collective decision. But I do apologize to Dennis‚" said Winston. "That was not his call." Regardless of whether the Saints put 48 or 41 on the board‚ the outcome was the same for Smith. The Falcons released a statement Monday morning indicating Smith had been dismissed as head coach following a meeting Sunday night with the team's owner and chairman‚ Arthur Blank‚ and the team's CEO‚ Rich McKay. "Decisions like this are never easy and they never feel good‚" said Blank. "We have profound respect for Coach Smith and appreciate all the hard work and dedication he has put into the Falcons over the last three years. He has been part of building a good culture in our football team‚ but the results on the field have not met our expectations." Like Blaze News? 'So much disinformation': Mark Ruffalo blames Elon Musk after actor shares fake images of Trump on Epstein plane

Actor Mark Ruffalo issued an apology to his followers after he shared artificial intelligence-generated photos of former President Donald Trump.Ruffalo shared a post on the X platform purporting to show two separate photos of Trump flying with several young women to Jeffrey Epstein's infamous island."Trump headed to Epstein Island. 2 different flights‚ 2 different groups of little girls. Not his daughters. Not his nieces. Not something Republicans even care about. He can rape‚ steal‚ try to overthrow the gov't‚ this is their American dream‚" a user claimed when posting the photos.Ruffalo‚ appearing to do no due diligence‚ shared the images at face value."Gross. #MAGA wants to paint everyone on those flights as pedophiles except the one guy who smiles in a group of young girls all headed to Epstein’s “Fantasy Island” with him. My bet is there are some decent republicans left in America that may think this is going too far." Ruffalo blamed the entrepreneur for "misinformation" on his website despite the label being applied to the post."Sorry Folks. Apparently these images are AI fakes. The fact Trump was on Epstein’s plane and what Epstein was up to is not. Be careful. Elon’s X and his allowing so much disinformation here is driving the value of his app down by 55%‚" Ruffalo wrote‚ before linking to an article. Sorry Folks. Apparently these images are AI fakes. Instead‚ what was supposed to be an easily manipulated woman develops into what the Hollywood Reporter described as "a fiercely spirited‚ independent woman."The film was awarded "Best Motion Picture — Musical or Comedy" at the Golden Globes‚ despite its poor performance at the box office. The production had a budget of $35 million but took in just $15 million worldwide.Like Blaze News? Bypass the censors‚ sign up for our newsletters‚ and get stories like this direct to your inbox. "You know‚ it's so unlikely. I'm from a small town in Indiana. I'm not a pedophile. ... I don't know if that's a new category here ..."Laughter and even a smattering of applause from the crowd were audible after Gaffigan uttered the "pedophile" part of his joke.Critics have been demanding the names of politicians and celebrities who may have been connected with an underage sex-trafficking ring operated by Epstein and his associate Ghislaine Maxwell‚ and on Friday a third set of documents totaling about 1‚300 pages was released in relation to a 2015 defamation lawsuit against Maxwell by one of Epstein's victims.
