Former President Donald Trump accused special counsel Jack Smith on Thursday of violating a court order pausing the proceedings in the case against the former president in which he is accused of unlawfully plotting to overturn the results of the 2020 election. Trump’s re-election campaign said Trump wants to hold Smith in contempt of court. Lawyers for Trump pointed to a stay of the proceedings granted by U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan‚ an Obama appointee‚ after they appealed her rejection of their request to dismiss the case. Although the appeal‚ which hinges on presidential immunity and double jeopardy claims‚ was taken up by the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals‚ Smith’s team went along making submissions anyway‚ Trump’s attorneys noted. Prosecutors violated last month’s stay “almost immediately” by serving thousands of pages of discovery and a “purported” draft exhibit list‚ the 15-page filing said. Despite a “warning” from Trump that he would seek relief if their “malicious conduct” continued‚ prosecutors then filed a motion filled with “partisan rhetoric‚ including false claims‚” the filing added. “In this manner‚ the prosecutors seek to weaponize the Stay to spread political propaganda‚ knowing that President Trump would not fully respond because the Court relieved him of the burdens of litigation during the Stay‚” Trump’s legal team wrote. “Worse‚ the prosecutors have announced their intention to continue this partisan-driven misconduct indefinitely‚ effectively converting this Court’s docket into an arm of [President Joe Biden’s re-election] Campaign.” Trump’s lawyers asked the federal court in Washington‚ D.C.‚ to order prosecutors to “show cause” for why they should not be held in contempt‚ be required to withdraw their filings‚ be forbidden from making future productions without express permission from the court‚ and assessed monetary sanctions for attorneys’ fees and expenses incurred in the response. Smith’s team did not immediately issue a reply to the filing‚ declining comment to the media. In making her order‚ Chutkan said the stay would pause “any further proceedings that would move this case towards trial or impose additional burdens of litigation on Defendant.” But there were some caveats‚ including to stress that stayed deadlines and proceedings have not been “permanently vacated” and protective measures — such as the gag order against Trump — would remain in place unless a higher court ruled otherwise. The Quencher H2.0 FlowState Tumblers are offered in Cosmo Pink and Target Red and are a part of the brand’s “Galentine’s Collection.”  “Made to gift‚ a card label is included while a tiny heart adorns the Stanley logo. With a pop of pink and the perfect shade of red‚ let’s celebrate your gal pal by spreading the love‚” a description from the Target website says. Cups sold out quickly online and in stores despite the $45 price tag.  Shoppers were equally excited about the January 3 release of the special “Winter Pink” Stanley cups‚ with some shoppers choosing to camp out overnight in the Target parking lot.  “We are seeing an enthusiastic response to the Starbucks x Stanley Quencher and many stores have sold out. It will not be restocked‚” a Starbucks representative told Today.com. One TikTok video documenting the in-store experience on December 31 in El Paso‚ Texas‚ showed a mass of shoppers running toward the display to score the tumbler. If you want illegal immigration to stop‚ you need to cut off the flow. It proposes the following things‚ according to the Immigration Forum.org‚ a rather pro-immigration outlet. It would reestablish Trump-era border policy‚ including restarting construction on the border wall. You reinforce the definition of operational control as the prevention of all unlawful entry into the United States‚ including entries by terrorists‚ other unlawful aliens‚ instruments of terrorism‚ narcotics and other contraband. It would require the DHS secretary to incorporate physical barriers‚ infrastructures and technologies to achieve situational awareness and operational control of the US-Mexico border. It would increase the number of full time Border Patrol agents to at least 22‚000. By the way‚ that gives the lie to the idea that the Republicans don’t want to increase Border Patrol agents. They do. They just don’t want to increase the number of people who are going to be involved in processing illegal immigration forms‚ as opposed to the number of people who are on the border catching the guard ways. It would prohibit the use of U.S. Customs and Border Protection‚ air and marine operations resources to transport non-citizens who will not be detained into the country’s interior. In other words‚ we shouldn’t be spending federal dollars to bus people all around the country via CBP. It would require the U.S. Border Patrol to put together a strategic plan based on information provided by border community stakeholders like hospitals‚ farmers‚ ranchers‚ property owners‚ victims of crimes and other negatively impacted by illegal immigration. “All of this sounds absolutely reasonable‚” Shapiro asserted. ”It would also restrict access for asylum. It would raise the initial screening standards so a noncitizen would have to prove they were more likely than not to ultimately qualify for asylum. Why is that wild? Should you be able to come to the border and you just say‚ ‘Listen‚ I need asylum?'” The bill would also “explicitly end the existing presumption against detaining a non-citizen child accompanied by family‚ making it easier for families with minor children to be held in detention‚” he pointed out‚ adding‚ “Because right now the big problem is that you’re not allowed to hold a child in detention facilities with family‚ which leads to separations at the border between children and parents‚ which is then been used as a lever to release the parents.” “This is the stuff that Joe Biden is opposing.
