iRobot is laying off staff for the second time this year

Photo by Jennifer Pattison Tuohy / The Verge iRobot, the parent company of robovac maker Roomba, is laying off around 105 employees. In a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission spotted by TechCrunch, iRobot says the job cuts will impact 16 percent of its current workforce. The company announced the news as part of its earnings report released on Wednesday. “These moves, while challenging, have fundamentally changed the way we work with our partners to efficiently develop and build our robots,” iRobot CEO Gary Cohen said during an earnings call. In January, iRobot laid off 350 workers after Amazon’s deal to acquire the company fell through. The company also appointed Cohen as CEO, who shut down Roomba’s subscription service iRobot Select. Additionally, Cohen said the... Continue reading…

Audi launches a new brand in China without the four-ring logo

The new “AUDI” logo and E concept for China. | Image: Audi Audi is making a big change to its branding for the Chinese market with a new logo that lacks the automaker’s famous four-ring emblem. Today in Shanghai, the company showed off the new “AUDI” logo — yes, it’s just Audi in all caps — on the front of a new E concept electric Sportback that notably lacks its broadly used “E-Tron” branding. In a press release, Audi’s CEO Gernot Döllner said it’s hoping to tap into China’s “more tech-savvy” customers who “expect leading connectivity as well as automated driving.” Reuters reported in August that Audi was planning a rebrand for China, where the automaker sold less than 10,000 vehicles in the country in the first half of 2024. iOS 18 deleted your iPhone notes? Here’s how to get them back

As someone who uses the Notes app across all my Apple devices, I can imagine how scary it might be to suddenly lose access to all of my notes. It actually happened to me a few macOS beta releases ago. I temporarily lost all of the content in my Notes app on my Mac, so I know that rush of panic that follows a discovery like this. Apparently, there's one such bug on the iPhone right now. Some people found the notes in the Notes app disappearing after upgrading to iOS 18. The bug doesn't appear to be fixed and can occur even in the latest iOS 18.2 beta. Thankfully, there's an easy fix since the iPhone hasn't actually deleted any content in the Notes app. Continue reading... The post iOS 18 deleted your iPhone notes? Republican Jeff Hurd won the U.S. House seat in Colorado that Republican Rep. Lauren Boebert left, fulfilling the congresswoman's hope that her mid-election departure from the race would make it easier for another Republican to retain the seat.

Democrat strategists ‘pretty sure’ they lost because they didn’t call enough people racist

WASHINGTON, DC—Democrat strategists have come forward to admit that their party’s loss in the recent general election can be attributed to their failure to accuse enough voters of being racists. This bombshell revelation has sent shockwaves through the political landscape, leaving many to wonder if the United States is on the verge of a new era of political mudslinging or if these strategists have finally lost their collective minds.  During a post-election analysis, the strategists argued that by not calling enough voters racists, they missed out on an opportunity to discredit their opponents and sway undecided voters. They claimed that this oversight was a critical mistake that cost them the election.  “We should have been more aggressive in our accusations of racism,” said one strategist. “If we had called more people racists, we could have turned the tide in our favor and secured a victory for our party. It’s clear that we need to double down on this tactic in future elections.”  The reaction to this admission has been mixed, with some expressing support for the strategists’ new approach, while others have laughed it off as yet another example of political hypocrisy. Social media has been abuzz with memes and jokes mocking the strategists’ stance, with many users pointing out the irony of accusing voters of being racists in order to win an election.  As the nation grapples with this latest development, it remains to be seen how the Democrat strategists’ admission will impact the political landscape. One thing is certain, though: the party’s decision to blame their loss on a lack of racism accusations has quickly become the talk of the town, and not in a way they likely intended.
