"A warrant has been issued for a mother who police said abandoned her son in Hamilton County.
A young boy was found wandering alone in Colerain Township in Hamilton County on Thursday our news partners at WCPO report.
In a 911 call, a caller told Hamilton County dispatch that their daughter’s boyfriend saw a child on the road waving down cars.
Colerain police said that the boy is from Shelbyville, Indiana — over 70 miles away from where he was abandoned.
The 5-year-old boy is non-verbal and has autism, according to police.
Saturday police said that warrants have been issued for the boy’s mother 32-year-old mother Heather Adkins.
Adkins is being charged with child endangering and has not been arrested yet.
Police said in a statement on Facebook that the boy is safe while they continue the investigation."
