Spin Cycle: Media Outlets Tip, Overplay Their Hands In Campaign’s Final Hours

For those who don’t spend their Sunday mornings glued to the television — and their Sunday afternoons attempting to dig through a week’s worth of network and cable news media spin — The Daily Wire has compiled a short summary of what you may have missed. While it likely comes as no surprise to most that the majority of American media leans left — and sometimes dramatically so — some eyebrows might just raise a bit at the lengths to which some went on Sunday to shade their election coverage with just hours to go in the 2024 race. On ABC News’ “This Week,” former Democratic adviser George Stephanopoulos ratcheted up the tension by invoking the Civil War to describe the tenor surrounding the 2024 presidential election. “It is almost over. What comes next is anyone’s guess. What we do know is this — no election since the Civil War has posed such a test of our constitutional system,” Stephanopoulos began, going on to say that the true test would be whether or not there would be a “peaceful transfer of power” regardless of the outcome. And in a vacuum, Stephanopoulos’ words might be innocuous. But in American political discourse circa 2024 — where the prevailing narrative mandates that former President Donald Trump is the only person who might potentially respond poorly to losing — the ABC host was clearly asking whether Harris would be allowed to take office without threat of violence. “It is almost over. What comes next is anyone’s guess. What we do know is this — no election since the Civil War has posed such a test of our constitutional system.”@GStephanopoulos has the latest news from the final days of this election cycle. https://t.co/6sHjFmUNzX pic.twitter.com/PHcbiU5mIP — This Week (@ThisWeekABC) November 3, 2024 Jonathan Karl joined the pile-on at ABC, using a repeatedly misquoted comment to suggest that Trump was already leaning in to violent rhetoric ahead of Tuesday’s election. Karl referenced Trump’s admittedly ham-handed suggestion that former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) might feel differently if she had to fight in the wars she voted to send others to — a comment that has been widely misrepresented as a threat on Cheney’s life — he said Trump’s closing campaign message “has been very dark, has been very divisive.” Much of former Pres. Trump’s messaging in the final days of the 2024 campaign “has been very dark, has been very divisive,” @JonKarl says, referencing Trump’s violent rhetoric about former Rep. Liz Cheney. “This is not a message that's about the economy.” https://t.co/9EQuDkDrAX pic.twitter.com/MnhyEOwwwi — This Week (@ThisWeekABC) November 3, 2024 Former Governor Chris Christie (R-NJ) helped ABC with some of the heavy lifting and claimed that the majority of undecided voters were only undecided because they already had “an opinion of Donald Trump” — and by his calculations, that opinion was not good. “If they’re undecided today, that means they’re not voting for him. So what he wants to do is create this dark kind of picture to make them stay home,” Christie said. The former New Jersey governor made no mention of the “dark picture” created by a viral anti-Trump ad that showed a dystopian future America under the multi-generational rule of current vice presidential candidate JD Vance (R-OH). Undecided voters have "an opinion of Donald Trump," @GovChristie says. "If they're undecided today, that means they're not voting for him. So what he wants to do is to create this dark kind of picture to make them stay home." https://t.co/TMARsAzp42 pic.twitter.com/9FYkVIW4yz — This Week (@ThisWeekABC) November 3, 2024 ABC’s Matt Gutman tipped his hand while reporting in on preparations for Election Day in the hotly contested battleground state of Pennsylvania — which is widely considered to be a “must win” state for both campaigns. “They’ve got to finish tabulating all the results as early as they can,” he said, “before that expected avalanche of litigation from the Trump campaign.” Gutman’s insinuation that only Trump would take legal action — in Pennsylvania or anywhere else — is laughable, as both campaigns have legal teams in place in all of the swing states and they are ready to move the second they see something out of place. But it does follow the accepted media narrative that only Trump would refuse to accept the results as they come. Election officials are in a “race against the clock” in battleground Pennsylvania, @mattgutmanABC reports. “They've got to finish tabulating all the results as early as they can … before that expected avalanche of litigation from the Trump campaign.” https://t.co/z23wLKQlP5 pic.twitter.com/2NvJ8VZbwc — This Week (@ThisWeekABC) November 3, 2024 On CBS News’ “Face the Nation,” the Russia narrative resurfaced. Despite analyses that concluded Russian interference in the 2016 election — though attempted — did not change a single vote, Democrats and media have continued to run with the story as if it did just that. The new twist, according to cybersecurity expert Chris Krebs, is that the Russians have transitioned to “laundering” the desired content through “other platforms, such as Telegram and X” in order to evade detection. How has Russia's disinformation campaign evolved from the 2016 and 2020 elections? Iran's influence operations targeting the 2024 election have been focused on denigrating former President Donald Trump and undermining perceptions of the election’s integrity, says CBS News contributor and former DHS official Sam Vinograd (@sam_vinograd). She says Iran has shown… pic.twitter.com/rAtiZLoAYS — Face The Nation (@FaceTheNation) November 3, 2024 NBC News, just hours after allowing Vice President Kamala Harris to turn its flagship sketch-comedy show “Saturday Night Live” into a de facto ad — a move that could put the network on the wrong side of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) — brought in Senator Raphael Warnock (D-GA) to gaslight the audience. Warnock argued that despite numerous polls across the country, Donald Trump was not really gaining ground with black voters — particularly black men. “Black men are not going to show up in droves and waves voting for Donald Trump,” he claimed. “They know who he is.” But polling — and Kamala Harris’ campaign’s recent actions — paint a different picture, as former President Barack Obama was dispatched to effectively shame black men into supporting Harris. Warnock says he trusts what he’s seeing on the ground.@ReverendWarnock: “Black men are not going to show up in droves and waves voting for Donald Trump. … They know who he is.” pic.twitter.com/rDPcF3eVIC — Meet the Press (@MeetThePress) November 3, 2024 Warnock wrapped up his appearance by misquoting Trump in order to tee up an insult, saying that Trump’s promise to protect women “whether they like it or not” sounded “ominous coming from the mouth of a convicted sexual predator … We don’t need a predator, we need a president.” Trump did say that he would protect women “whether they like it or not,” but he made the comment in reference to the influx of violent crime — often targeting women — perpetrated by illegal immigrants who have flooded across the southern border under the leadership of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. Raphael Warnock (D-Ga.) says Donald Trump’s remarks about protecting women “whether they like it or not” are “ominous coming from the mouth of a convicted sexual predator.”@ReverendWarnock: “We don’t need a predator, we need a president.” pic.twitter.com/9UNMi4RYHr — Meet the Press (@MeetThePress) November 3, 2024 On CNN’s “State of the Union,” anchor Dana Bash tried her best to toe the Democratic Party line, but her guest — Senator Tim Scott (R-SC) — quickly made it clear that he was not having any part of that. Bash began by suggesting that any warnings about voter fraud taking place were intentionally being pushed to undermine the election that was already in progress. “You think it’s okay to spread false rumors about fraud and undermine the integrity of the election, regardless of what happens?” “The liberal media has done a better job of spreading misinformation than any candidate I have seen so far,” Scott shot back. “Oh, come on, Senator,” Bash protested. Kennedy Jr. — the former Democratic presidential candidate who aligned with Trump after being shut out by his own party — could push a policy that would remove fluoride from American water systems. “I can’t believe we’re having a conversation about fluoride when all the voters I’ve talked to over five battleground states —” Scott began. “I mean, take it up with RFK Jr.,” Bash suggested, giving no explanation as to why she hadn’t simply asked Kennedy herself. Little Gentleman Rides Over To Mom In Tiny Tractor With Sweetest Gift

You can never really know what a kid is going to do next. This is especially true of kids who are known to be particularly sneaky. No matter what, though, kids are sure to keep you on your toes. While this can be stressful at times, there are plenty of moments when kids surprise their parents in the most heartwarming ways. Taylor Nelson provides us with the perfect example. One day, this mom of two little boys was spending time outdoors. She watched as one of her kids zoomed around the backyard in his little tractor. Then, when she least expected it, this sweet kid started to drive directly toward Taylor. The reason why? So he could hand deliver some flowers he had picked just for Mom! See her reaction to this thoughtful gesture in the viral video below. @taylornelson444 Mamas boy ♬ you look like you love me – Ella Langley & Riley Green First of all, the fact that this little boy came up with the idea of getting his mom flowers is so adorable. But also, we simply have to acknowledge the way this little guy is surprisingly excellent, and confident, when driving that toy tractor. There’s also the way he approaches Mom with her flowers — it seems as though he gets a bit shy for a moment. Truly, what a simple yet powerful interaction between this Mom and son! While Playing Outdoors, This Thoughtful Little Boy Surprises His Mom With Flowers “A little boy driving a battery John Deer rushing to bring his mama flowers will become a great man,” someone points out in the comment section, with another adding, “The way he drives, parks and hops out is better than 70% of adults.” “This made me cry,” a third person admits. “You are doing all the things right keep on raising him to be a gentleman.” You can find the source of this story’s featured image here! We’ve All Heard A Wolf Howl, But Have You Ever Heard A Coyote Sing?

When this coyote howls, everyone listens! Cooper the coyote enraptured audiences at The Creature Conservancy with his resounding song. This animal truly put everything he had into his performance, throwing his head back as he emitted a long, high-pitched cry. What an entertainer! Cooper was accompanied by a handler with a leash the entire time. To encourage the coyote, this woman even chimed in with a few yips and howls of her own! Audience members were quiet and still as they observed the beautiful animal. @thecreatureconservancy Replying to @Seirye ask and you shall receive #coyote #wildlife #cuteanimals ♬ original sound – The Creature Conservancy The Creature Conservancy shared a video of this coyote’s song on social media, which has received over a million views. Commenters agreed that, although Cooper was pretty adorable, it would be extremely frightening to encounter a pack of these creatures in the wild. “Cute here but not when you hear 10 of them in the near distance in the middle of the night,” wrote one user. Another added, “Let me tell you, hearing 12 of those off in the distance in the dead of night is absolutely terrifying.” Coyotes may be scary, but they sure can sing! Screengrab from TikTok As it turns out, though, a pack of wild coyotes can also make some beautiful music! One trail camera managed to capture a group of these animals singing at night, and the footage is hauntingly lovely. Obviously, you wouldn’t want to encounter these creatures close-up, but seeing them from afar is pretty amazing! Although it’s true that coyotes can be dangerous, we do have to remember that we share the planet with these animals. So, it’s important to learn how we can do so responsibly. That’s one of The Creature Conservancy’s main goals: to teach people about different types of critters so that we can help create a better environment for everyone! According to their website, their motto is “Conservation Through Education.” Thanks to Cooper, audiences were able to learn more about our coyote friends and the songs they sing. What an eye-opening — er, ear-opening — demonstration! You can find the source of this story’s featured image here. Asteroid Apophis Could Break Apart During Earth Flyby in 2029

In 2029, the asteroid Apophis—also known as the “God of Chaos”—will pass by Earth at an unprecedentedly close distance, potentially undergoing significant transformations as a result. A new study by scientists from the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory suggests that Earth’s gravitational forces could cause tremors and landslides on Apophis, altering its appearance. This research, currently available on the preprint server arXiv, is pending publication in The Planetary Science Journal. Apophis, a 340-meter-long, peanut-shaped asteroid, was discovered in 2004, and its trajectory has been closely monitored since. In 2021, astronomers recalculated its orbit and significantly reduced the probability of a collision with Earth. Apophis is set to approach Earth on April 13, 2029, at a distance of just 32,000 kilometers—closer than some artificial satellites. While this proximity poses no threat to Earth, scientists are curious about how Apophis itself might be affected. Johns Hopkins astronomer Ronald-Louis Ballouz explains that asteroids passing near planets often exhibit little evidence of space weathering. This could be due to gravitational forces exposing deeper, unweathered layers of the asteroid’s surface. To investigate, researchers created computer models of Apophis based on data from other asteroids. These simulations suggest that two primary processes may occur during its flyby: seismic vibrations and rotational changes. Vibrations could begin an hour before Apophis reaches its closest point to Earth, persisting afterward. These tremors might lift boulders from the surface, forming distinct patterns visible to spacecraft. Additionally, rotational changes could destabilize Apophis’s surface, triggering landslides. These processes, Ballouz notes, could shed light on how close planetary encounters affect small celestial bodies. Astronomers eagerly await NASA’s OSIRIS-APEX mission, which is expected to validate these theories. This repurposed spacecraft will study Apophis for 18 months, gathering data on its composition and surface characteristics. Enormous Silent Hill 2 Remake mystery finally solved, Bloober confirms it’s real

It may not have the action of Resident Evil, the customization options of Dead Space, or the unyielding tension of Alien: Isolation, but Silent Hill 2 - the 2001 original - is the greatest horror game of all time. In fact, it’s more than a horror game. It’s a spiritual journey. It’s the story of James Sunderland, Angela, and Eddie venturing to the darkest recesses of their own souls, and then fighting to get back out. Silent Hill 2 Remake pays homage to Konami’s superlative OG in dozens of different ways, but there’s one mystery, seemingly linked to the 2001 game, that’s plagued players since October. Now it’s finally been solved - even Bloober Team’s own creative director confirms that it’s real - and depending on how you interpret it, it completely transforms SH2 Remake’s story. Call of Duty Black Ops 6 director confirms the most annoying perk will be nerfed

The first few weeks of every Call of Duty game are filled with an ever-changing meta. The best guns, perks, and loadouts shift as things are nerfed and buffed, eventually leveling out as things, in theory, become more balanced. Black Ops 6 is no stranger to this, as one perk has already proved so overpowered and unfair that Treyarch is about to bring it back down to Earth. I'm of course talking about Recon, a brand new perk that essentially gives you brief wallhacks every time you respawn. Following League of Legends Worlds 2024, Faker has more skins than 27 champions

There were several moments of the League of Legends World finals that had me (and the rest of the cinema) stunned into dumbfounded silence. At the end of game one, T1 were looking pretty shaky, but by game two, they were back. Then it was a similar story for games three and four, bringing everything down to the wire with game five. In the middle of the fourth match, however, it felt like something stirred in Faker, who'd been having a relatively rough performance on Yone and Sylas. Something just clicked, and he just transformed into the Unkillable Demon King that we know and love. That toplane 1v1, that glorious midlane flank that effectively ended the series: all roads do, indeed, lead to Faker.
