Gene Simmons recalls when he played Eddie Van Halen’s guitar

The Kiss co-founder, bassist and singer Gene Simmons had the chance to meet Eddie Van Halen in the late 70s and help the band to record their first demo. However, it was not enough for them to get a record deal but, obviously, some time later they finally signed to Warner Brothers and released their groundbreaking self-titled debut album. Not long after, they were already headliners and were selling millions of tickets. In an interview with Zak Kuhn Show (Transcribed by Ultimate Guitar), Gene Simmons recalled when he had the chance to play the legendary Eddie Van Halen guitar "Frankenstrat". According to him, only Eddie could play the instrument in tune. Gene Simmons recalls when he played Eddie Van Halen's guitar "They're headlining Nassau Coliseum for the first time. I'm backstage, and actually off in the (distance), it was Joey Ramone and some other people who wanted to check them out." "And Eddie's got the guitar around his neck, and they don't go on for another 15-20 minutes. So I said, 'Eddie, let me see that guitar.' Because Eddie put that guitar together, glued on the neck, the neck that he liked to a certain body. It was kind of like a Frankenstein monster put together." "And so, when I put it around my neck and tried playing a chord, it was completely out of tune. And I'm not exaggerating. I said, 'Hey, you better go and tune this up before you hit the stage.' And he goes, 'Oh no, no, man, don't worry.'" "He put the guitar on his shoulders and then played a chord and bent the neck in tune so that neck had some movement on it, and anybody else playing that instrument would sound horrible on it. And yet, when Eddie played on it, it sounded perfectly in tune," Gene Simmons said. Eddie Van Halen sadly passed away back in 2020 at the age of 65 after years battling cancer. He is considered by many, the most influential guitarist since Jimi Hendrix. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d4sza2SNP_E&pp=ygUSdmFuIGhhbGVuIGVydXB0aW9uThe post Gene Simmons recalls when he played Eddie Van Halen’s guitar appeared first on Rock and Roll Garage.

RATM’s Tim Commerford talks about his cancer battle

The Rage Against the Machine and Audioslave bassist Tim Commerford is currently promoting his new band 7D7D and in an interview with TotalRock (Transcribed by Blabbermouth), he talked about his three-year cancer battle. The 56 year-old musician was diagnosed with prostate cancer a few three years ago. Tim Commerford said about his cancer battle "I'm the strongest I've ever been in my life, I'm 56 years old. I'm artistic, and I'm focused on that, and I'm proud of it. And I've always been very proud of being fit as an older person, because most people that are my age are not; that's the truth of it. And I feel really good about that." "I was broken when I found out I had cancer. It took me a couple of years before I could even discuss cancer without just getting emotional, crying about it. But what brought me over the edge with that and made me not have to cry all the time was the physicality of, like, 'Yo, yeah, I'm sick.'" "Like, I have a cadaver hamstring tendon that's in my shoulder that the doctor's, like, 'Well, your shoulder is only gonna be 75 percent as strong on the left as it is on the right.' And I'm, like, well, then if I get 200 percent stronger than I would have gotten, then I'll be 125 percent stronger." "I tell people, like, look, if your number, your PSA number, which is what it's called, if that number is going up, if your doctor says your PSA is rising a little, get an expert, go to an expert. At that point in time, find someone that knows everything about it that's an expert in prostate cancer that does it. That's what I didn't do." He continued: https://youtu.be/YMfhYM5UAwM "And mine I found out about through health insurance. I had to do a health insurance test, and they found it early. And I went to a doctor, and she watched it rise, and then finally went, 'Oh, now it's up to this point. You need to have surgery. You have cancer.' 'What?' 'Oh yeah. We have to remove your prostate.' 'Really?' 'Oh yeah. And your cancer got out of your prostate a little tiny bit. So that means it escaped into my body.' When they normally capture it, it's in the capsule. They take the prostate, it takes the cancer." "It's very important that, like, if your doctor sticks his fucking finger in your ass and goes, like my doctor said, I'll never forget, 'Well, your prostate is kind of generous.' That was his words. 'Generous.' And I remember going, like, 'That's a little weird,' but not worrying about it, because he said, 'Well, there's a lot of men that have that. You ride your bike a lot.'" Commerford continued: "And it didn't send a red alert that it should have and that any person, especially a man, any man, if you get any of that, like you have a generous prostate or your PSA numbers a little elevated, go to an expert right then. And there's things I could have done. Had I been at an expert earlier on, they would have done an MRI and they would have then seen the location of the cancer and then I would have been able to take it out in the capsule, and I'd be better off," Tim Commerford said. Tim Commerford was born in Irvine, California in 1968 and started his musical career in 1988. He is known for being the bass player of Rage Against the Machine, Audioslave and Prophets of Rage. He also recorded with groups like Future User, Wakrat and now is promoting his new band 7D7D;The post RATM’s Tim Commerford talks about his cancer battle appeared first on Rock and Roll Garage.

Eddie Van Halen’s opinion on Cream

Eddie Van Halen’s opinion on Cream

Eddie Van Halen was born in Amsterdam, Netherlands back in 1955 and moved with his family to the United States a few years later. So the music from the 60s affected him a lot, especially bands that appeared when he was a teenager. Over the decades he talked about many groups from that era and one of them was the supergroup Cream. What is Eddie Van Halen’s opinion on Cream Cream is considered the first Rock supergroup in history and it was formed in London, England back in 1966 by Eric Clapton (Guitar, vocals), Jack Bruce (Bass, vocals) and Ginger Baker (Drums). They were one of the first bands to make heavier songs that would later be an important inspiration for Hard Rock music. Eddie, of course, became a big fan of the group especially because of Eric Clapton. Over the years he called the British guitarist his hero but noted that he only really liked his work in Cream. He explained in an interview with Steve Baltin in 2009 why he loved Cream. “The only band I was really over into was Cream. And the only thing I really liked about them was their live stuff. ‘Cause they played two verses, then go off and jam for 20 minutes. (Then) come back and do a chorus and end.” “And I love the live jam stuff, the improvisation. ‘Cause it was nothing like the record, and that is why I loved Cream. ‘Cause Ginger Baker and Jack Bruce pushed Eric Clapton. I almost feel bad for Eric because half the time he probably didn’t know the one was because these guys were jazz players playing Marshall amps and loud as s**t. Listen to 'I’m So Glad' on Goodbye Cream. If that doesn’t blow your f**king mind I don’t know what will,” Eddie Van Halen said. His two favorite Cream albums After becoming a fan of Clapton's work with Cream, Eddie went to buy the record the guitarist had previously recorded with John Mayall. That album was also an influence to him but Cream continued to be his favorite band that Clapton played in. Back in 2016, Eddie listed for Guitar Tricks Insider some of his favorite albums of all time. Two of them were Cream albums: "Wheels of Fire" (1968) and "Goodbye" (1969). He also praised those records in an interview with Rolling Stone in 2011. “Actually after Cream I dug back a little bit to the Bluesbreakers stuff. But my favorite stuff was when he was in Cream. Which was only a couple, three years. It wasn’t a very long run. But what I really liked was their live stuff, like 'Wheels of Fire' and 'Goodbye', Cream and stuff like that. Because then you could really hear the three guys playing in their live element,” Eddie Van Halen said. Why he considered Eric Clapton his hero https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_hSiqy9v9FM&pp=ygUKaW0gc28gZ2xhZA%3D%3D The late legendary guitarist said many times that he would slow down the records and learn just by hearing every note that Clapton played. Although he loved Clapton, he also noted once that it was Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker who made him sound even better. But after Cream, Eddie really didn't like what Clapton did, because according to him it was quite different from what he did when he was part of the power trio. He had the chance to see when he was young Clapton as part of Derek and The Dominoes and he didn't enjoy the show at all. During a session of questions and answers with What It Means to Be American in 2015 (Transcribed by Rock and Roll Garage), Eddie explained why Clapton was his hero. “As a guitarist, Eric Clapton was my hero because he was a straight-ahead guy. (He) must plugged his guitar straight into an amp and it was very organic, so to speak.” “Not putting a lot of “bs” (bullshit) in between. So, yeah, I liked him during Cream.. After Cream, I kind of lost interest in him. I basically stopped listening to music altogether. I didn’t listen to much of anything after that. (So) I was so busy and wrapped up in my own little world that I just didn’t eat.”The post Eddie Van Halen’s opinion on Cream appeared first on Rock and Roll Garage.

?? MMA Fighter Bryce Mitchell dropping truth bombs on the FDA & FOOD regulation!

UTL COMMENT:- How come so many of these MMA fighters are so based? (Even despite having their heads knocked about do much?? ??) Anyway it's a simple fix! Cut the FDA out of your business, ranchers! Have NO dealings with them whatsoever. Stop asking for ‘permits’ to trade your own produce! They could bring in mobile butchers & sell direct to the public. It’s done in Australia by many organic cattle farms!
