Republican vice presidential candidate JD Vance blasted his opponent Tim Walz on Monday after the Democratic governor botched a common football term in a post about playing “Madden” with Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY). As millions of people watched actual football on Sunday afternoon, Walz and Ocasio-Cortez live-streamed themselves playing the popular NFL video game and talking about the 2024 race. In a since-deleted X post promoting the live stream, Walz wrote that “AOC can run a mean pick 6 — and I can call an audible on a play. And we both know that if you take the time to draw up a playbook, you’re gonna use it.” The post was meant to draw attention to Project 2025, the Heritage Foundation’s conservative playbook for a second Trump term that Trump has repeatedly said is not a part of his agenda. As pointed out by Vance on Monday, a “pick 6” is not a play or a scheme as Walz’s post suggested. It’s the term used for when a defensive player intercepts a throw and returns it for a touchdown. “I guess the goal is to try to appeal to the young male vote by playing video games online with AOC. I don’t know who came up with that idea,” Vance said. “He was talking about playbooks and trying to connect that to Project 2025, and he said, ‘Yesterday, AOC, she did very good, she ran a pick 6.’ Ran a pick 6. University of Nevada Reno finally canceled a women’s volleyball match after members refused to play against a team with a trans-identifying male player. “Due to not having enough players to compete, the University of Nevada women’s volleyball team will not play its scheduled Mountain West Conference match at San José State,” a statement from UNR read, ahead of the match on Tuesday, October 29. “Per Mountain West Conference policy, the match will be recorded as a loss for Nevada.” The game was originally set to take place on Oct. 26th, but both schools had agreed to move the game to the 29th and to the Spartans’ home “in the best interest of both programs,” after UNR’s women’s team refused to play against SJSU and its trans-identifying male player. The university also claimed that the school was governed by a law protecting “the equality of rights under the law” — which includes things like race, sexual orientation, and “gender identity or expression.” It ended with a statement that the match on October 26 would still proceed as planned but that those girls who wished not to play could do so without any disciplinary action. Backlash ensued against the school, however, and vocal advocates called on the girls to hold the line and refuse to play, as previously reported. The event was put on by North Carolina country singers Luke Bryan and Eric Church — who were joined by such stars as James Taylor, Billy Strings, Keith Urban, and more — with 100% of the proceeds going to help those hurt by the hurricane that left more than 230 dead. During the concert, Church announced that, through his Chief Cares Foundation, 100 homes were also being donated to those in need, the outlet noted. “We’ve come up with a plan called Blueprint for the Blue Ridge. We’re going to put 100 families in homes that have lost their homes in Avery County and the surrounding areas — one of the worst hit areas,” the singer said. “In an area that I spent half of my years, an area I’ve had a lot of inspiration and gained a lot of inspiration, in an area I’ve made five records in.
