In 2014, the Filipino press reported that a werewolf-like creature had been attacking livestock on the island of Sibale. Could this be an Aswang, described in local folklore as a flesh-eating shape-shifter?Manila: Bloodsucking creatures are devastating livestock herds in the island of Sibale.Residents are at a loss over what vicious animal would leave only carcasses of its prey after feasting on them.An article published recently by the Manila Standard Today said farmers are becoming increasingly fearful of the creature, which strikes when the moon is full, sucks the blood of its prey and tears off the limbs of livestock such as goats.“It’s a continuing goat massacre happening at the onset of the full moon almost every year since 2012. So far, more than 200 goats had been massacred by this unknown killer,” Sibale Mayor Lemuel Cipriano was quoted as saying by the report.Locals believe that the culprit was similar to the mythical werewolf, a creature that strikes during the evening and transforms into a four-legged creature.The island that the supposed werewolf inhabits is as remote and detached from civilisation as any other minor island in the Philippines. To reach it by boat from Romblon, people would have to travel five hours in a motorised outrigger boat, it is closer to the main Oriental Mindoro island, where most residents get their supplies.It not known whether the creature hunts alone or moves against its prey in packs, like wolves and wild dogs do.In an attack last Wednesday, nine goats owned by the local village chief, Ulpiano Ebora of San Vicente, were killed. Before this, several of the livestock were killed in the same locale and the adjacent village of Poblacion. In all. 27 animals have been killed over the past few weeks.So far, no one has seen the creature and there has been hardly any evidence — except for the carcasses.Philippine folklore is rife with frightful creatures of the underworld. During the Spanish period, the colonial government in the island of Panay pervaded the myth of the “aswang”, a local version of the shape-shifting, flesh-eating banshee-like creature in European folklore. An Aswang is a regular townsperson by day and prefers an occupation related to meat, such as butchery. They are also said to have an ageless appearance and a quiet, shy, and elusive manner.The creature is described as a combination of vampire and witch and is almost always female. One key feature of the Aswang is its bloodshot eyes. The Aswang is an eater of the dead and a cannibal. They are capable of transforming into either a huge black dog or a black boar. The creatures stalk and eat human beings at night. Many stories revolve around these creatures eating children and unborn fetuses. Their favorite body parts are the liver and heart, and they are known to be viscera suckers.The Aswang is believed to have supernatural powers. Once it has overpowered a victim, it will take a bundle of sticks, talahib grass, and rice or banana stalks, and transform these into a replica of their victim. This replica is sent home while it takes the real person back with her. Upon reaching its home, the replica will become sick and die. The victim will then be killed and eaten.Supposedly if a person looks at them in the eyes, the reflection would appear inverted. During their nocturnal activities, they walk with their feet facing backward. Garlic bulbs, holy water, and other objects are believed to repel Aswang. At night, they transform into the deadly beast. In the Middle Ages, the Aswang was the most feared among the mythical creatures in the Philippines. It is said that an Aswang can be revealed, with the use of a bottle of a special oil made from coconut and mixed with certain plant stems upon which special prayers were said. When an Aswang comes near or walks outside the house at night, the oil is supposed to boil and continue boiling until the Aswang leaves the area.In the Southern part of the Philippines the Aswang are classified into five distinctive types:1. The Blood Sucker (Vampire)2. The Barangan (Vindictive Hexer...Voodoo and the like)3. Mananangal (Self Segmenter) A creature who can fly through the night using only the upper torso with its entrails dangling below.4. The Corpse Eater - This is the Aswang who will try and change out the real corpse with a fake corpse made from the trunk of a banana tree.5. The False Beast - An Aswang who can change from a human into a wild pig, or dog or whatever shape suits it.REPORTED ATTACK IN 2004Tata Porras, 16, of Barangay Cabuling in Tantangan, claimed his 14-year-old brother Michael was attacked by an aswang, which he claimed was disguised as a big black dog with red, glowering eyes.Porras' descriptions aptly fit the physical appearance of the supernatural being who has the ability to transform itself into different forms while devouring a prey.He claimed that he and his younger brother were sleeping in a small makeshift hut near their ricefield on the evening of September 22, guarding their farm ducks, when the incident happened.The boys' parents were sleeping in their house just a few meters away from the ricefield."Aswang talaga ang nakita ko," Tata said, adding that the big black dog about three feet-high was about to bite the neck of his younger brother when he saw it."Nang kakagatin na niya ang kapatid ko, kinuha ko kaagad ang nakatago naming single shot na baril at binaril ko ang aswang (When I saw the 'aswang' about to bite my younger brother, I grabbed our single shot rifle and I shoot the 'aswang')," Tata said.He said the "aswang" fled and was lost in the dark.Prior to the alleged attack, Tata said he heard a squeaking sound outside the makeshift hut."Papalayo sa tinutulugan naming dalawa yung ingay," the boy said.Michael was hit in his right leg when Tata fired the shot at the aswang. He was immediately brought to the South Cotabato Provincial Hospital (SCPH) for medical treatment.Neighbors who rushed to the boys' location reported hearing Tata shouting, "aswang, aswang!" while pointing to a dark portion of the ricefields.A local radio station carried the story on air, but some residents refused to believe the story, brushing this off a figment of the boy's imagination.Others however believe it, citing personal accounts and stories they heard from their friends and relatives living in the allegedly aswang-infested localities in southern Philippines.Based on the Filipino superstitious beliefs, the usual targets of the aswang are pregnant women and young children. A reader directed me to a BUFORA report that was part of a British MoD UFO document. This report referenced an incident, somewhat eerie if compared to the Todd J. Sees death investigation:"I decided to join B.U.F.O.R.A. as an area investigator, in London, UK. This position I had taken up afterwards I got to know - very well, as well as B.U.F.O.R.A. research procedures. I then went on investigations with (redacted) the investigation which was discussed was the strange disappearance of two Enfield children, in mid March 1970. A boy and a girl aged between 11 and 12; the girls name (redacted) was the boys name unknown. The two children lived a quarter of a mile north northwest of the King George the fifth reservoir, which is two miles long and half a mile wide. The two children had disappeared in mid-March and later turned up in June of the same year, dead in a clump of trees, a quarter of a mile North northeast of the reservoir, less than 350 yards from a well lit main road. Police with tracker dogs went over the entire area where the two children had lived, disappeared and reappeared. It seems strange that they should disappear for three months, then reappear next to a clump of trees; which had somehow been scorched from above. You may think that this has nothing to do with U.F.Os, but I shall now relate the uncanny events that surrounded their deaths, and perhaps I shall be able to show you how I think the two incidents relate. Even though there is a six month period between my U.F.O. sighting and the death of these two children, you will see how the evidence matches up. Meaning that when murder as we know it is ruled out, why then did the local press; The Waltham Forest Guardian Independent print the following:1) They died from burn marks (possibly radiation or microwaves?)2) They died from over exposure.3) It went on to say that nobody knew how this could have happened.4) Their bodies were not found close together, and one of the girls shoes was missing.Isn't it strange that the other shoe the girl was wearing was clean? U.F.O.s have been known to attack and kill animals and leave burn marks (possibly radiation) on them. There is little possibility that the sun could have left such burns. And it is equally unlikely that they should just lay down and die from over exposure. U.F.Os hover above tops of trees and the ground and scorch the natural vegetation and nothing ever grows there again! This is the case of the trees where the children were found. Also, why were the police in the area for several weeks after the children were found, and why did they take away samples of the ground for analysis. In fact they removed part of the bushes from where the children were found.If you drop two stones from the air they will not land in the same place or spot. As mentioned (their bodies were not found together). I strongly believe that they came into contact with alien beings, the common denominator being the King George the fifth reservoir. I feel that they died under strange duress and they were found at the time of a strong U.F.O. flap (a sighting every two or three weeks) in the immediate and myself interviewed some people in June-July 1972 at Sewardstone Berry, near where her and her boyfriend were found dead off of Sewardstone, which runs between Chingford and Waltham Abbey, Essex. But to no avail they seemed to be very scared when asked questions etc.In mid-June 1970 when the childrens bodies were first found (redacted) myself were playing a game of chess at at around 1Opm, suddenly there were at least two to three police cars that came hurling along (redacted) the road. At the time my parents were out and we wondered what was happening. The date I can't remember, but I do remember we piled into my Ford Popular and followed the police cars to Sewardstoneberry; three miles down the road towards Waltham Abbey, Essex. When we arrived there were crowds of people by the fence in Sewardstone Road; a well lit main road. The police were everywhere, the time being 10.45 pm. The headlights from the police cars could be seen 350 yards away at the clump of trees, where they found (redacted) and her boyfriend dead. As mentioned both police and Wickstead and Nipperead Ministry of Defence were there for sometime afterwards, and the parents (redacted) her boyfriend didn't get there bodies back for three months after they were found dead?The Public Records Act states that the Ministry Of Defence Official Secrets Act states that any U.F.O. reports (whether Close Encounters or just LITS) from members of the public should be treated by the department as strictly confidential. As U.F.O. records are closed to public scrutiny; until they become available in accordance with The Public Records Act (section 1 and section 2 of The Official Secrets Act).
