Grateful Dead react to Phil Lesh’s death

The original Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh passed away at the age of 84 and the official statement said he was surrounded by his family and full of love. The death cause was not revealed but she had bladder cancer in 2015 and had a liver transplant following a hepatitis C infection in the late 90s. The statement said: "Phil Lesh, bassist and founding member of The Grateful Dead, passed peacefully this morning. He was surrounded by his family and full of love. Phil brought immense joy to everyone around him and leaves behind a legacy of music and love. We request that you respect the Lesh family’s privacy at this time." The Grateful Dead and the members of the band paid tribute to Lesh. Rock stars reaction to Phil Leash's (Grateful Dead) death The Grateful Dead "Today we lost a brother. Our hearts and love go out to Jill Lesh, Brian and Grahame. Phil Lesh was irreplaceable. In one note from the Phil Zone, you could hear and feel the world being born. His bass flowed like a river would flow. It went where the muse took it. He was an explorer of inner and outer space who just happened to play bass. He was a circumnavigator of formerly unknown musical worlds. And more." "We can count on the fingers of one hand the people we can say had as profound an influence on our development - in every sense. And there have been even less people who did so continuously over the decades and will continue to for as long as we live. What a gift he was for us. We won’t say he will be missed, as in any given moment, nothing we do will be without the lessons he taught us - and the lessons that are yet to come, as the conversations will go on." "Phil loved the Dead Heads and always kept them in his heart and mind. The thing is… Phil was so much more than a virtuoso bass player, a composer, a family man, a cultural icon..." "There will be a lot of tributes, and they will all say important things. But for us, we’ve spent a lifetime making music with Phil Lesh and the music has a way of saying it all. So listen to the Grateful Dead and, in that way, we’ll all take a little bit of Phil with us, forever. For this is all a dream we dreamed one afternoon, long ago…. - Mickey, Billy and Bobby". There are only a few people you meet in your lifetime that are special, important, who help you grow spiritually as well as musically. He turned me on to the world’s music, gave me my first Alla Rakha record when we lived on Belvedere Street, changing forever what I thought was musically possible." "Phil was foremost an improvisationalist and taught me, all of us. Phil was bigger than life, at the very center of the band and my ears, filling my brain with waves of bass. All those years we all rode the third rail together creating something that cannot be defined in words." "Phil was a master of a style he invented, he was singular, an original, nobody sounded like him, nobody. He had wisdom, was older and showed us the way. Later he became first and foremost a family man.. There is no one who loved his wife and sons more than Phil and no one was more dedicated to the Grateful Dead. His sound is indelibly embedded in my mind as is Jerry’s sound…and always will be." [embed width="500" height="300"]https://www.facebook.com/mickeyhart/posts/pfbid0ntuBg8uUFLzJpxWiRzdEPrh6KTRY7iSR3ZRzxf8NiebBM6uxfH6P7fwg1QtxkRqvl?locale=pt_BR[/embed]  Bob Weir "At the age of seventeen, I listened to the John Coltrane Quartet, focusing on McCoy Tyner’s work, feeding Coltrane harmonic and rhythmic ideas to springboard off of - and I developed an approach to guitar playing based off of it. This happened because Phil turned me on to the Coltrane Quartet." "Early on, he also introduced me (and us) to the wonders of modern classical music, with its textures and developments, which we soon tried our hands at incorporating into what we had to offer. This was all new to peoples’ ears. Igor Stravinsky’s work wasn’t news to me at that point, but what he did and how he did it were ongoing topics of discussion for Phil and I - and boy, did I ever grow." "Concurrent with all this was the ongoing conversation about the things (ideas) we present outside of music, and the effect it would have in shaping the world around us - let’s just say Phil wasn’t particularly averse to ruffling a few feathers. We had our differences, of course, but it’s not platitudinous to say that that only made our work together more meaningful." "Our conversation and interaction will last, at very least, ‘til the end of my days. The Muse gives us the people and tools to work with. Where we go with that work emerges from somewhere between our intuition and her inspiration." "It’s a process always cloaked deep in Mystery, and at its best, the Mystery is forever lasting after its rendering. *Look out of any window…* has that ring to it. Meanwhile, given that death is the last and best reward for a life *well and fully lived*, I rejoice in his liberation...," Bob Weir said. Not by blood but still by family. I’ve heard so many of you tell me that the Grateful Dead changed your life. Yeah, well… Phil Lesh changed mine. Phil turned me onto John Coltrane. Back in the early days of our friendship, he wasn’t just like a brother to me - he was like an older brother. A roommate. A bandmate. A mentor." "All lifelong friendships and family relationships are complicated and dynamic, but ultimately stand the test of time. So keep only the good memories, for they are the only ones that matter. That’s what I’m going to do. Because love is real, not fade away. Thank you Phil. I’ll miss you, darn it." Stevie Nicks recalls talk with Katy Perry about not using the internet

The whole world is connected to the internet these days and we don't even think that much of how life was before all of it. But there are many people who prefer to stay offline, at least in terms of social media. Stevie Nicks is one of them and in an interview with Rolling Stone, she recalled how the pop star Katy Perry was impressed when she said she wasn't on social media and didn't have any rivals. Stevie Nicks recalls talk with Katy Perry about not using the internet She was asked if there was internet on her Iphone and Nicks said: It isn’t connected, it’s just a camera. I hate it. About 10 years ago, Katy Perry was talking to me about the internet armies of all the girl singers, and how cruel and rancid they were." "I said, 'Well, I wouldn’t know because I’m not on the internet.' She said, 'So, who are your rivals?' I just looked at her. It was my steely look. I said, 'Katy, I don’t have rivals. I have friends. All the other women singers that I know are friends. Nobody’s competing. Get off the internet and you won’t have rivals either'.” Then she continued reflecting on how it would be for Fleetwood Mac if there was internet since the 70s. "It would’ve been terrible. We never had terrible paparazzi. Our fans always really honored us and treated us with care. Nobody chased us down. It was all fun, it was never terrorizing, was never stalking. It was never weird. I couldn’t live like that." Fleetwood Mac's final show happened back in 2019 and since then Stevie is focused on her solo career. Stevie Nicks laments not saying goodbye to Christine McVie

The Fleetwood Mac singer Stevie Nicks recalled in an interview with Rolling Stone that, sadly, she wasn’t in touch with the late Christine McVie much during her final years. Christine lived in England, and the time zone difference made it difficult for them to even talk on the phone. Stevie lamented that she didn’t have the chance to say goodbye to her friend and bandmate. Christine passed away in 2022 at the age of 79. Stevie Nicks laments not saying goodbye to Christine McVie "This is the tragedy of it: I had not talked to Chris for a long time. Fleetwood Mac would be together for two solid years and then we would stop. During that time, when I went to do my own thing and went on tour, we hardly ever talked on the phone. She lived in England. The time difference was screwed up, so it was very hard for us to talk." "We got a phone call from someone. He told us that she was ill. I said, 'OK. We’re going to rent a plane right now, and we’re going to come over there.' And then we got a call back. Her family said, 'Don’t come until we see how things go here.' Her family is super funny, as was she. They said, 'If you and Mick, that tall man, walk into her hospital room, she’ll go, ‘Am I dead?’'" She continued: "So anyway, a few hours later they called and said that she’d died. So I did not get to say goodbye to her. My plan was to go and sit on her bed and sing 'Touched By an Angel' to her, like I did with my dad, for two or three hours or however long it took to either bring her back or send her off. I didn’t get to do that, and I was angry." "Because this was a different kind of friend. This was my music soulmate, my best girlfriend. We kept that band afloat, the two of us, by keeping the peace, no matter what. By never letting people carry their problems into the studio, by stopping fights before they started, by making sure that our work was stellar. Even when we were doing lots of drugs, we had our eyes on everyone and everything. We were the keepers of Fleetwood Mac, and that is why we cannot replace her. We did replace Lindsey two times, and it was OK. No fighting, super fun. But Christine was different," Stevie Nicks said. Christine McVie joined the band in 1970 being a member until 1998. She then returned from 2024 until 2022 when she passed away. After Arab plumbers learned their client was a Holocaust survivor, they gave her a ridiculous bill: nothing

It's estimated that only a few hundred thousand Holocaust survivors are still living. Sadly, in the coming years that number will eventually make its way to zero.Nazi concentration caps were liberated 74 years ago, so a twenty year old who made it through the atrocity is now 94. Elihu Kover of Nazi Victim Services for Self-help Community Service spoke of the conditions many of these elderly survivors face as they advance in age at a Senate hearing in 2013. "Holocaust survivors are growing older and frailer. … She may be coping with the loss of her spouse and have no family to speak of. In addition to the myriad problems associated with so-called 'normal aging,' many survivors have numerous physical and psychological problems directly attributable to their experiences during the Holocaust. … And many of these problems only surface in old age, having been hidden during their working years when the survivors struggled and made a new life for themselves as productive citizens of this country."This sympathetic view of the tragedy isn't as popular in the Arab world where Holocaust denial is rampant and many cynically accuse the Jewish people of exploiting Western sympathy surrounding the tragedy to establish the State of Israel. However, in 2019 two Arab men in Haifa, Israel made a beautiful show of respect to a Holocaust survivor who found their gesture "uplifting." And with the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, it's a powerful reminder that good people are everywhere.Simon and Salim Matari, who are brothers, were recently called to the home of Rosa Meir, 95, to fix a leak."When we got there, we saw there was a large blast of water and we started fixing it," Simon told the Times of Israel. "At some stage, while working, my brother Salim started to talk to Rosa about her life. She told us she's 95, a Holocaust survivor, and that she has a daughter.""Her life story touched my heart," Simon continued. "At that moment, I decided I won't take a cent from her."After the brothers finished their work, they gave Meir a bill that read: "Holocaust survivor, may you have health until 120, from Matari Simon and Matari Salim," adding that the cost of the service was "0 shekels.""May you live until 120" is a Jewish blessing that carries the implication that the receiver live a happy and healthy life until the age of 120.The gesture brought Meir to tears."The brothers really surprised me," she said. "It was so moving and uplifting, and I thanked them a lot."The brothers also told the woman that if she needed anything else they would be by to fix it for free. This article originally appeared on 10.9.19

The Weekend Spectator Ep. 18: The Left Loses Its Marbles (Again): Donald Trump as a Fascist, Hitler, Mussolini, Stalin

Kamala Harris claims to represent “joy,” “democracy,” and “decency.” However, she is not fooling anyone as she continues to display the exact opposite. Her campaign strategy has shifted this week as she escalated her rhetoric to equate Trump to Hitler, in addition to calling him a “fascist” and “dictator.” Prominent Democrats, including Hillary Clinton and Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, have followed in lockstep. As a Jew, nothing is more offensive to me than hearing Kamala Harris compare her political opponent to Hitler simply because she disagrees with him. Hitler was responsible for the murder of six million Jews, whereas Trump has done everything to make Jews in America safer. The… pic.twitter.com/GyidDA4dYu — Awesome Jew (@JewsAreTheGOAT) October 23, 2024 This type of messaging is an ongoing pattern for the Democrats and is dishonest, irresponsible, divisive, and evil.  In this week’s episode of The Weekend Spectator Podcast, Paul and Grace discuss the Left’s attempts to frame Donald Trump as an enemy to the American people. They also discuss how Harris’ desperate move to go over the top to villainize Trump, combined with her recent media spree, suggests that her campaign may be concerned about the possibility of losing the election.
