Suicide blast kills at least 8 in northwest Pakistan

ISLAMABAD — Pakistani officials reported Saturday that a suicide bomber targeted a security checkpoint in a volatile region near the border with Afghanistan, killing at least eight people and injuring several others. The attack occurred in the town of Mir Ali in Pakistan’s militancy-hit North Waziristan district. At least two soldiers, four police officers and two civilians were said to be among the dead. Multiple area security officials confirmed the casualties, reporting that the bomber detonated a motorbike rickshaw filled with explosives at the checkpoint. The explosion also injured five security personnel, with local hospital sources describing the condition of some of them as “critical.” Militants allied with the banned Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan, or TTP, reportedly claimed responsibility for the deadly bombing. It came a day after fierce clashes with militants in districts surrounding North Waziristan killed at least 16 Pakistani security force members and injured many others. Pakistani officials have reported a dramatic surge in TTP-led gun attacks and suicide bombings in the country, particularly in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa border province, where North Waziristan is located. The violence has claimed the lives of more than 1,000 Pakistanis, half of them security forces, in the first 10 months of this year, according to independent research reports. Islamabad says TTP operates out of sanctuaries in Afghanistan and has intensified cross-border attacks since the Islamist Taliban regained power in the neighboring country. The Taliban government in Kabul has persistently denied allegations that the TTP or any other transnational militant groups are present on Afghan soil. TTP, commonly known as the Pakistani Taliban, is listed as a global terrorist organization by the United Nations and the United States. The group sheltered leaders of the Afghan Taliban in Pakistani border areas and joined them in staging years of insurgent attacks on U.S.-led international forces in Afghanistan until those departed in August 2021.

Details Emerge About Israel’s Large-Scale Strike On Iran

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) hit military targets throughout Iran during the early morning hours on Saturday in retaliation for Iran launching more than 180 ballistic missiles into Israel at the start of the month. The IDF said in a statement that the strikes were now over and that its objectives were achieved. Israel did not hit Iranian oil or nuclear facilities. More than 100 combat aircraft, launched from inside Israel, were used during the strikes, according to The New York Times. Iranian media said several members of the military were killed during the strikes on 20 different locations, which concluded around 6 a.m. The IDF said that the fighter jets “struck missile manufacturing facilities used to produce the missiles that Iran fired at the State of Israel over the last year.” “Simultaneously, the IDF struck surface-to-air missile arrays and additional Iranian aerial capabilities, that were intended to restrict Israel’s aerial freedom of operation in Iran,” the statement continued. The IDF said that it only deployed “some” of its wide range of offensive operational capabilities during the strikes “on strategic assets deep within Iranian territory.” MATT WALSH’S ‘AM I RACIST?’ COMING TO DAILYWIRE+ OCT. 28 It said that it was ready to engage in further offensive or defensive military action if need be. Former U.S. Ambassador to Israel David Friedman posted a video on X showing the Israeli fighter jets returning home after the mission. Israel has a significant military and technology advantage over Iran and has the ability to operate with impunity in Iranian airspace. During the first wave of the operation, Israel targeted “air defense batteries and radars” in Iraq and Syria from Iran’s allies to prevent any disruptions during the operation, the Times noted. Israeli jets then hit air defenses inside Iran. In the second wave of the attack, Israel struck manufacturing facilities responsible for building Iran’s long-range missiles. The strikes focused on “destroying a critical component in the production process,” the report said. This was the largest attack on Iran since the Iran-Iraq war in the 1980s. Iran mostly downplayed the result of the strikes, suggesting that there was little to no damage. Experts said that Iran downplaying the strikes was a positive sign because it indicated that the Islamic regime had no appetite for escalating the conflict against a vastly superior opponent. The extent of the damage was not yet clear, but it appeared to be highly precise and achieved the intended the goal of establishing deterrence. Joe Truzman, senior research analyst at the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies (FDD), posted satellite images that showed the impact of the strikes on one location. “Satellite images provided to me by a source reveal that the Parchin military base, east of Tehran, was targeted overnight by the IAF,” he wrote. “The image on the left depicts the site prior to the strike, while the post-strike image on the right indicates two areas affected by an attack,” he added. Wisconsin Sheriff: ‘We’re Screwed’ If Trump Doesn’t Win The Election

A Wisconsin sheriff is warning that the state will be “screwed” if Vice President Kamala Harris defeats former President Donald Trump in November. The remark was relayed on Thursday by Dodge County Sheriff Dale Schmidt as he testified during a House Judiciary Committee hearing in Milwaukee on how the border crisis had impacted Wisconsin. Schmidt, the president of the Badger State Sheriffs Association, said that law enforcement around the state were seeing a surge in crime and strain on resources. “If Trump doesn’t win this election, we are screwed,” Schmidt said that one of his fellow Wisconsin sheriffs told him, saying another told him “people don’t understand how bad it is.” Turning to his own experience, Schmidt said his county was now dealing with an increase in drug trafficking from cartels from Mexico. “I’m fearful for my family. I’m fearful for the family of those that serve with me,” he said of dealing with an influx of cartel violence and drug trafficking. Additionally, Schmidt said that law enforcement throughout the state struggled when they pulled people over and they had no valid licenses or identification. “I would love to put up a border around Dodge County or around the state of Wisconsin but we need the federal government to do that at our southern border,” Schmidt said, noting that 1,500 people are killed in Wisconsin every year from fentanyl poisoning. Schmidt thanked Senator Ron Johnson (R-WI) for being at the hearing, but said he was disappointed that Democrat Senator Tammy Baldwin did not attend, asking where she was. MATT WALSH’S ‘AM I RACIST?’ COMING TO DAILYWIRE+ OCT. 28 Fond du Lac County District Attorney Eric Toney also spoke to lawmakers about the increase in drug trafficking in his county. “We’re a county of about 100,000 people. We have numerous highways running through the community that makes us a corridor for drug trafficking,” he said. “We’ve seen seizure of drugs with quantities soaring like we have never seen before.” Toney said that the arrests of illegal immigrants were putting a strain on his county. “When we have more illegal immigrants that are being prosecuted for crime, sometimes our jails operate at thin margins and counties are having to look at building new jails, not solely because of that, but that’s part of the issue,” he said. Republicans have made the border a key issue in the 2024 election with both Trump and Senate candidate Eric Hovde campaigning heavily on the issue.
