Disney’s still looking for a new CEO — but not this year or next year

Image: The Verge Disney will announce a replacement for CEO Bob Iger in “early 2026,” according to an update from the company on Monday. The entertainment giant has been on the hunt for a new leader since Iger’s return to Disney in 2022. Last year Iger extended his contract with Disney until December 31st, 2026, and, as The New York Times notes, delayed retirement four times during his previous run as the company’s CEO before eventually handing control over to Bob Chapek in 2020. Even though we’re still years away from hearing who will replace Iger, CNBC reports that Disney has interviewed several potential candidates in “recent weeks,” including ESPN chairman Jimmy Pitaro, Disney experiences chairman Josh D’Amaro, and Disney entertainment co-chairmen... Tropical Storm Oscar is making Cuba’s nationwide power outage even worse

A motorcycle lights a street under pouring rain during a nationwide blackout caused by a grid failure in Havana, on October 19, 2024. | Photo: Getty Images Tropical Storm Oscar is making it harder to restore power in Cuba after a massive, prolonged power outage that preceded the storm. The nation’s power grid failed on Friday after Cuba’s largest power plant went offline, leaving more than 10 million people without electricity. The grid reportedly collapsed four more times before Oscar made landfall as a Category 1 storm on Sunday evening. Oscar is hitting a key region for power generation where at least two important power plants in the city of Holguín Santiago de Cuba are located. The storm creates “an additional inconvenience,” the Associated Press reports Energy Minister Vicente de la O Levy saying in a news conference. The storm is still barreling through Cuba today, posing new dangers... Continue reading…

AMD’s highly anticipated 9000-series X3D desktop CPUs arrive on November 7th

Image: AMD AMD is officially announcing its first next-generation X3D desktop processors today, based on its latest Zen 5 architecture. I’d love to tell you which Ryzen 9000-series X3D chips are arriving next month, but AMD is strangely only teasing a release date of November 7th and providing no pricing or further details. AMD has only provided a single slide about this X3D announcement, ahead of Intel’s Core Ultra 200-series launch on October 24th. Rumors had suggested AMD would announce its highly anticipated Zen 5 X3D chips a day after Intel’s performance embargo for the Ultra 9 285K, but AMD has decided to tease the existence of next-gen X3D processors a little earlier than expected. Thanks to other leaks, we’re expecting to hear more about... Continue reading…

An iPhone SE 4 Plus sounds great, but I don’t trust this leak

The iPhone SE 4 could turn out to be one of the most exciting iPhone models Apple has made in years. Yes, it'll look like the old iPhone 14, with a notch at the top instead of a Dynamic Island display. And yes, it'll have only one rear camera. But the phone is expected to pack quite a punch thanks to a $499 price tag despite the A18 chip and 8GB of RAM, which is needed to support Apple Intelligence. You know what would be even better than all that? A 6.7-inch iPhone SE 4 Plus device that could offer tremendous battery life compared to the smaller 6.1-inch variant. I never considered the possibility of Apple making a cheap SE Plus model, and I still think it's highly unlikely we'll see one. But a new leak from Asia seems to suggest the 6.7-inch iPhone SE 4 Plus is a thing. Continue reading... The post An iPhone SE 4 Plus sounds great, but I don’t trust this leak appeared first on BGR. AirPods Pro 2 to get impressive new hearing aid feature next week with iOS 18.1 release

The long-anticipated hearing aid features coming to AirPods Pro 2 finally have a release date: Next week alongside iOS 18.1. Even though Apple is ramping up for a big Apple Intelligence launch, as it will finally be available for iPhone, iPad, and Mac users, the company is also celebrating another milestone: To bring hearing aid features with the AirPods Pro 2. These functions have been announced during the iPhone 16 event. A few days later, the FDA approved Apple's Pro earbuds as hearing aid devices. In a press release, the governmental agency wrote: "The U.S. Food and Drug Administration authorized the first over-the-counter (OTC) hearing aid software device, Hearing Aid Feature, intended to be used with compatible versions of the Apple AirPods Pro headphones. Once installed and customized to the user’s hearing needs, the Hearing Aid Feature enables compatible versions of the AirPods Pro to serve as an OTC hearing aid intended to amplify sounds for individuals 18 years or older with perceived mild to moderate hearing impairment.” You'll be able to configure the AirPods Pro 2 as hearing aids on the iPhone. Image source: Apple Inc. Apple says these improvements add the first “all-in-one hearing health experience” that focuses on prevention, awareness, and assistance. Prevention:  The ear tips help to provide passive noise reduction, while the H2 chip helps to actively reduce louder, more intermittent noise at 48,000 times per second. On by default, across all listening modes, Hearing Protection is helpful in a variety of loud settings. Plus, with an all-new multiband high dynamic range algorithm Awareness: In about five minutes, users can take a clinical-grade hearing test based on the standard clinical approach called pure-tone audiometry. The Hearing Test feature leverages advanced acoustic science and provides users with an interactive experience. When a user completes the test, they will see an easy-to-understand summary of their results, including a number representing hearing loss in each ear, a classification, and recommendations. Assistance: Using the personalized hearing profile from the Hearing Test, this new feature seamlessly transforms AirPods Pro into a clinical-grade hearing aid. After setup, the feature enables personalized dynamic adjustments so users have the sounds around them boosted in real-time. This helps them better engage in conversation and keeps them connected to the people and environment around them.  A few journalists tried AirPods Pro 2 hearing aid features, and they were impressed with them. Some of the media that had hands-on experience with these functionalities were TechRadar, The Verge, Wired, and Tom's Guide. BGR will let you know once iOS 18.1 is available alongside AirPods Pro 2 hearing aid features. Deciphering the language of cells: How they sense and respond to mechanical forces

Cells, the fundamental building blocks of life, are constantly subjected to a variety of mechanical forces within our bodies. These forces, which can arise from both internal and external sources, play crucial roles in regulating cellular processes such as migration, differentiation and tissue development.
