GM will start making money on EVs this year, says CEO

Barra also told the publication that GM will still phase out the sales of internal combustion engine vehicles by 2035, a goal it set in 2021 alongside a promise to be carbon neutral by 2040. GM faced manufacturing and supply chain issues affecting its battery production in late 2023 that delayed the launch of a bunch of its EV models, but Barra says they are fixed. Right now Tesla sells the most EVs in the US — and has been making a profit on them alone since 2021. Penguin Random House books now explicitly say ‘no’ to AI training

The standard copyright page on both new and reprinted books will now say, “No part of this book may be used or reproduced in any manner for the purpose of training artificial intelligence technologies or systems,” according to a report from The Bookseller spotted by Gizmodo. The clause also notes that Penguin Random House “expressly reserves this work from the text and data mining exception” in line with the European Union’s laws. The Bookseller says that Penguin Random House appears to be the first major publisher to account for AI on its copyright page. iPhone 17 Air leak: Single 48MP rear camera, 8GB of RAM, and A19 chip

In recent months, analysts have suggested the rumored iPhone 17 Air—or Slim model—will replace the Plus. While previous leaks revealed this iPhone could be underpowered and overpriced, Haitong Securities analyst Jeff Pu has shared some specific specs. According to the analyst, the iPhone 17 Air is set to be introduced at next year's iPhone event. With a redesign and a 6.6-inch display, this device could feature the A19 chip, which is made using the same manufacturing process as the A18 chips. This device would feature 8GB of RAM, a 24MP front-facing camera, and a single 48MP rear lens. While the device is expected to land between a base and a Pro iPhone, it's weird that Apple is considering using a single main camera instead of two. The analyst believes Apple will offer new design and casing upgrades on all iPhone 17 models, although the A19 Pro chip, more RAM, and narrowed Dynamic Island will be exclusive to the iPhone 17 Pro models. Apple could also finally upgrade all of the main iPhone Pro cameras to 48MP, while the front-facing camera will finally get an upgrade with a 24MP resolution. The regular iPhone 17 is expected to feature the same 12MP ultra-wide camera. As we're still a year away from Apple unveiling the next generation of iPhones, much can change, including the iPhone 17 Air/ Slim plans. Some rumors say this slim design can be achieved with a new display technology that will be available as soon as next year. Smaller battery life and software optimization could also help Apple achieve this new form factor. Eddie Van Halen’s brother Alex reflected on the musician’s life and the events leading up to his death in 2020 during a recent chat with Rolling Stone. He made some shocking revelations about the depth of Eddie’s drug addiction and how he went down that road. Eddie reportedly took as much as a bottle of steroids per day because it made him feel like Superman. Alex guessed the containers had up to a thousand pills, and his brother would often jest away his action, saying if two pills were good, then twenty would feel better. Why did Eddie Van Halen start using steroid pills? Eddie Van Halen / Instagram Eddie’s doctor found a tumor in his brain back in 2019, just after he survived a motorcycle accident. He underwent gamma knife surgery and had to take prescribed steroid pills during recovery. Sadly, Eddie became addicted to the drug and began to abuse it instead. Even while battling cancer, Eddie continued to make music, to Alex’s surprise. Alex admitted he was impressed by Eddie’s relentless nature in his final moments, even if the music he made at the time was below standard. Eddie was confirmed dead in October 2020, leaving Alex devastated. Eddie Van Halen and Alex Van Halen / Insatgram Eddie Van Halen’s brother is working on a memoir  Four years after Eddie’s passing, his brother is working on a memoir about their relationship, which details their upbringing and exposure to vices. Their father reportedly gave Alex his first alcoholic drink at only 6, and he became an alcoholic until his wife, Stine Schyberg, helped him stop. Eddie Van Halen and Alex Van Halen / Insatgram Eddie was also an alcoholic and accompanied his with cocaine to stay awake and alert. According to Alex, the late singer’s greatest vice was his obsession with success, as he wanted to become the world’s greatest guitarist alive. Eddie died famous and with multiple accolades earned, but his relationships and health took a hit.
