Exclusive: Nevada women's volleyball captain doubles down on team's refusal to play transgender opponent

The captain of the University of Nevada women's volleyball team told Blaze News in an exclusive interview that she's disappointed her school decided not to support the team's decision to forfeit a game against a squad with a transgender player."Unfortunately our university decided not to back us, and they decided they're going to have the match as scheduled," Nevada Wolf Pack captain Sia Liilii said.'No student athlete should ever be pressured to play a game where they don’t feel safe — period.'As Blaze News previously reported, San Jose State University's women's volleyball team features a 6'1" male athlete named Blaire Fleming, born Brayden.Fleming's presence on the SJSU squad has been the unofficial reason behind four forfeitures by teams at Boise State, Southern Utah, Utah State, and Wyoming.Even Fleming's own teammate has spoken out about the unfair advantage the male athlete has over female players.Nevada was next in line to withdraw from a match against SJSU after the Wolf Pack players released a statement announcing their refusal to participate in a match that would jeopardize their safety. However, school officials decided to override the will of the players and declare that the match against SJSU would proceed as scheduled. The University of Nevada claimed the players made their decision and statement "independently" and "without consultation with the University or the athletic department."However, Liilii said she and her teammates tried to go through the proper channels and inform school administrators how they felt, but the university still decided to push forward with the scheduled match."The vast majority of us decided that this isn't right, [that] we need to protect women's sports, and we're going to forfeit," the team captain explained. She added, "To know that the university didn't acknowledge the fact that we're the team that is going to play against [Fleming] was really frustrating, and the way they went about it was not OK."Liilii said administrators later scheduled a meeting with the team to apologize and let players know the school would not be punishing them if they choose to sit out against SJSU on Oct. 26.When asked about the contradiction between the school not punishing players while publicly refusing to back their decision to forfeit, Liilii told Blaze News she felt the school was finding a way to distance itself from the players' stance while still following state and NCAA rules surrounding gender diversity. But Liilii added that she's received a lot of support, particularly from politicians such as Tulsi Gabbard and U.S. Sen. Markwayne Mullin (R-Okla.), both of whom recently attended a Nevada women's volleyball game."Thank you Sam Brown, Tulsi Gabbard, and Mark Wayne Mullin [sic] for showing your support at our match against Utah State tonight!" Liilii wrote on X. — (@) "Although our university hasn't supported us in this decision, our governor ... [Joe] Lombardo came out with a statement which was really reassuring, too," LiiLiii noted.Lombardo issued a statement on X about the ordeal, saying in part, "No student athlete should ever be pressured to play a game where they don’t feel safe — period.""I wholeheartedly respect the decision of the players," the governor added. — (@) "We do have people behind us that are supporting us, and that is really important," Liilii said. The Nevada captain added that she hopes she will soon "see the light at the end of the tunnel" regarding this controversy.Regarding whether or not the Nevada volleyball players will protest, participate, or sit out during the SJSU match, Liilii said, "you'll just have to see."Like Blaze News? NEW polling reveals the working class is abandoning Harris for Trump — here’s why

As Election Day draws dangerously nearer, everyone is keeping a close watch on the polling for both candidates. According to Blaze Media senior editor for politics Christopher Bedford, Trump is polling at record numbers among demographics that typically skew Democrat — like black and Hispanic voters. Meanwhile, the Harris campaign is losing working-class voters, as the VP’s efforts have been hyper-concentrated on securing the suburban women vote, which is why Harris has been focusing primarily on the issue of “unfettered access to [abortion].” Jill Savage from “Blaze News Tonight” and Blaze News editor in chief Matthew Peterson join Bedford to discuss the new polling results. “If Trump didn't have mean tweets, which he's always had ... would he get that much more percentage of, say, white women and therefore win?” Peterson asks Bedford. “Donald Trump is not your typical Republican. A typical Republican who may not be alienating white women at the same level also wouldn't be polling at historic levels for black voters that we’ve not seen since Richard Nixon’s literal first run [in 1960]. ... You wouldn’t see Hispanic voters changing the same way,” says Bedford. However, Democrats have also contributed to driving the black and Hispanic demographics toward the GOP. “The Democrats becoming a racial party that put African Americans first and put illegal immigration on a pedestal — those two things were very alienating to a lot of Hispanic voters,” “working class voters,” as well as “black men,” Bedford explains. “Their whole demographics-as-destiny plan kind of backfired,” he adds. The fact that Trump can “walk into an Hispanic bar” or “walk into a black neighborhood” and feels “comfortable in his skin” has done more to secure these minorities' votes than the GOP’s “fancy outreach efforts,” Bedford tells Savage and Peterson. However, there’s something the GOP needs to be very careful about if they want Trump’s success to continue. To hear Bedford’s warning for Republicans, watch the clip above. Another town in America's heartland stretched thin over influx of immigrants: 'We need some federal help'

Another town in America's heartland stretched thin over influx of immigrants: 'We need some federal help'

Locals in the small town of Logansport, Indiana, are sounding the alarm about the community's overwhelmed resources due to a massive influx of foreign nationals who have arrived in the area over the past three years under the Biden-Harris administration. The community's concerns mirror recent reports out of Springfield, Ohio, and Charleroi, Pennsylvania, two small cities that have experienced a significant increase in immigrant arrivals.'We are a small rural community in Indiana who is facing challenges of a large increase in population.'Residents in Logansport, a rural town with a population of 18,000, are pleading with the federal government to provide more resources to address their strained hospitals and school system. While it is unclear how many immigrants have moved to the area over the past few years, one local business owner speculated that the number was "maybe more than 2,000," according to WXIN.Mayor Chris Martin told the news outlet that others have stated that 5,000 Haitian nationals have moved to the area, but he noted that there is no way to be sure of the exact number.Martin explained that he knows the influx is significant because there has been a 20-30% increase in demand for local services. He cited "traffic, school, and the hospital" as examples. "The federal government has got to step in and help communities our size," Martin said. "We are a small rural community in Indiana who is facing challenges of a large increase in population."Logansport Memorial Hospital told WXIN that the town is on pace for record-shattering birth rates. The hospital stated that it has been utilizing interpreter services to provide assistance to the foreign nationals. The school system had 150 new students enrolled over the past three years. There are currently 207 Haitian students, compared to just 14 in 2021. New students from 11 other countries have also enrolled in the school system within the past few years.Cass County Health Department Administrator Serenity Alter stated in September that many of the new students are unaccompanied minors."They fly from Haiti to Nicaragua, to Mexico, and then to the state they are flying to in the US," she stated. "Some have not seen their parents in seven years. It's an eye-opener.""I don't think our school system can sustain what they are doing right now," Alter declared.District Superintendent Michele Starkey disagreed, stating, "We can handle it.""We are a public school, so we take in everyone who comes through the door and we meet them where they are no matter what," Starkey told WXIN.The school district has even coordinated with students' schedules, allowing them to attend a few hours of classes each day so that they can work full shifts in the evenings."While it might be startling to some people, we have students that work second and third-shift jobs to help support their families," Starkey stated. As far as why the foreign nationals have decided to make Logansport their home, some speculate it has something to do with the Tyson meatpacking plant. The company did not respond to a request for comment from WXIN.Dave Price, a Logansport resident, told Fox News this week, "We need some help here. We need some federal help.""We had immigrants come in throughout the years to Logansport from the Mexico area, so we have a lot of Hispanics in the area which have acclimated very well, and they've grown their businesses, and they've earned the respect of Americans, and we've respected them in return," Price stated. "But what we're seeing now is a little different. It's coming from a Third World country coming into Logansport, and these individuals don't necessarily know the local laws or rules and how to behave here."The mayor stated that he is considering declaring a state of emergency.Like Blaze News?
