CNN Brought On Bill Nye and Michael Mann on to Tie Fossil Fuels to Hurricanes

Over the weekend, CNN provided segments to environmental activists Michael Mann and Bill Nye, allowing them to promote their liberal agenda against the use of fossil fuels. On Saturday afternoon, fill-in host Alex Marquardt (currently embroiled in a defamation suit), interviewed Mann and set the stage for the University of Pennsylvania climate researcher to declare: "There is a profound impact that human-caused warming from burning fossil fuels and the production of carbon pollution. There is a major impact that is happening in terms of the damage and deadliness of these storms." After Marquardt followed up by asking if there is evidence of "steady growth" in storm frequency, Mann ignored long-standing evidence that hurricane activity changes cyclically as he further warned: ...when you look at the strongest storms -- the sort of cat 4, cat 5 monster storms, we see a steady increase. And steady is bad enough. As I like to say, the truth is bad enough. It's not exponential, but it's steady, which means that every additional degree that we warm the planet leads to a steady increase, you know, in the intensity of these storms -- the damage that's done. Here's the good news. The warming stops when we bring our carbon emission to zero. So if we can rapidly decarbonize our infrastructure -- get away from fossil fuels towards renewable energy, we can stop the warming of the planet, the warming of the oceans that is driving these ever dangerous and ever damaging storms. After Marquardt asked about recent reports of meteorologists being threatened, Mann complained about Republicans harassing him for decades over his research. On Sunday afternoon, Nye appeared with fill-in host Omar Jimenez (of "Fiery But Mostly Peaceful" fame), and after he argued that global warming is worsening hurricanes, he claimed that Republicans are "essentially being bribed" by the fossil fuel industry: Now, this is well-documented -- this is science. But I'll just say again, and you brought it up. The reason I did these videos for Too Hot Not to Vote is because one side is very concerned about climate change, and the other side is not, and is essentially taking bribes from the fossil fuel industry. Jimenez then helpfully cued up Nye to argue that the next election is the most important ever for the climate: "And I think, along those lines, you said this is the most important election in human history within the context of climate change. Why do you believe climate plays such a big role in this election?" After arguing that the climate effects everything humans do, Nye then specified the military as being concerned about how global warming will effect sea levels: The U.S. military is very, very concerned about climate change. They have bases in -- on near-shore facilities -- Norfolk, Virginia; Florida; San Diego. These are places where the Navy depends on the sea level staying about where it is. But it's not staying where it is. The world's getting warmer -- the ocean's expanding -- ice is sliding off of Antarctica and Greenland into the sea, making it also rise. So the sooner we get to work on this, the better, everybody. Transcripts follow: CNN Newsroom October 13, 2024 1:22 p.m. Eastern PROFESSOR MICHAEL MANN, UNIVERSITY OF PENNSYLVANIA: There is a profound impact that human-caused warming from burning fossil fuels and the production of carbon pollution. There is a major impact that is happening in terms of the damage and deadliness of these storms. ALEX MARQUARDT, FILL-IN HOST: Professor, when you look at the pace, the frequency of these storms, is there enough data from recent years to say whether there's sort of steady growth fueled by climate change of the number of these storms? Or is it more exponential? How much are these storms being fueled by climate change growing in terms of frequency? MANN: Yeah, I mean, again, when you look at the strongest storms -- the sort of cat 4, cat 5 monster storms, we see a steady increase. MARQUARDT: And we know what a tall task that is. In the meantime, one of the more disturbing reactions to what we've been seeing are these reports of meteorologists getting death threats as they batten down and try to push back against these conspiracy theories. What's your reaction to that? MANN: Yeah, it's really disturbing. It's part of a trend. You know, as a climate scientist, decades ago, I was attacked, my colleagues were attacked when we presented evidence that was a threat to powerful vested interests -- the fossil fuel industry, the politicians, mostly one of the two parties, really the Republican party that has supported their agenda. I was attacked by them decades ago because of my establishing the significance of human-caused warming. And today we have seen a metastasization of that bad faith extend to all matters of public discourse. And even, you know, weather presenters are being threatened, and emergency managers - FEMA employees are being threatened simply because the facts they are presenting might be inconvenient. Again, to some of those powerful vested interests, one of the two parties, the Republican party has taken, you know, almost as gospel, that climate change is a hoax, and they have attacked scientists who are talking about the threat of climate change... (...) CNN Newsroom October 13, 2024 4:45 p.m. Eastern OMAR JIMENEZ, FILL-IN HOST: But are you surprised that weather experts are actually being targeted here? BILL NYE, EDUCATOR: Not anymore because we all have a tendency to just, first thing you do is try to shoot the messenger, as the old saying goes. That somebody bringing you bad news is somehow responsible for the bad news. There's just a human tendency that we all want to overcome. And by "we all," I mean all of us, well, world citizens have to work together to address climate change. Now, look, everybody, the reason these hurricanes are happening is because the Gulf of Mexico and the mid-Atlantic is warmer than it's -- they're warmer than they've ever been. And not only that, the warmth goes deep in the Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico, and so you're not getting relief that you traditionally get when a hurricane would dissipate. Instead, they're strengthening. Now, this is well-documented -- this is science. But I'll just say again, and you brought it up. The reason I did these videos for Too Hot Not to Vote is because one side is very concerned about climate change, and the other side is not, and is essentially taking bribes from the fossil fuel industry. And we've just got to cut it out, you guys. We're all in this together, Omar. JIMENEZ: And I think, along those lines, you said this is the most important election in human history within the context of climate change. Why do you believe climate plays such a big role in this election? NYE: Well, it effects everything we do. You know, where do we spend money? We spend it on social security programs -- as Peter Bergen put it. They're not called social "welfare" -- it's "security." Security for our citizens. We spend money on that, and we spend money on the military. The U.S. military is very, very concerned about climate change. It'll be exciting. We're going to solve global problems working together. Come on!

Mika RIPS Baier's Interview: 'Embarrassing, Bad-Faith Effort by Once-Respected Host'

Shades of a football coach explaining away his team's loss by blaming the refs. Rather than focusing on Kamala Harris's evasive performance in her Fox News interview, today's Morning Joe trained its fire on Bret Baier. Mika led the hit parade, branding Bret's performance an "embarrassing, bad-faith effort by a once-respected host." She also claimed that Baier is "a man who spent his life as a down-the-middle journalist, seeming to throw it all away for his audience of one [i.e., Trump.]" Mika also mysteriously claimed that Baier intentionally lured Harris into speaking over him. Really? I'm sure Bret would have preferred to get straight answers to his questions, rather than Kamala's filibustering. Then there was Donny Deutsch, who said he was "repulsed" by Baier. And finally, MSNBC commentator and uber-elitist Anand Giridharadas, the Sidwell Friends alum and former consultant at McKinsey, where his father had been a director. Giridharadas praised Mika for accusing Trump of "fascism," and criticized the media for not using the word more often against Trump. Hilarious to make such an accusation on Morning Joe of all places, a show that has made a cottage industry out of accusing Trump of fascism, with this being just one of countless examples.  And, inevitably, Giridharadas also accused Baier of racism and misogyny, saying that as a member of the "old guard," he interrupted Kamala because he couldn't bear to hear a minority woman speak. "It just felt like a metaphor for a minority in this country that is angry at the notion that a rising, pluralist, more pluralist new America is speaking, is around, is here. And a desire to interrupt not just a person but the future." Baier did a fine job. But on more than one occasion, Kamala evaded answering whether she still supported very controversial positions she has taken by saying that she will "follow the law." Here's an example of her using that phrase to dodge whether she still supports taxpayer-funded sex change operations for inmates. I wish Bret had followed up along these lines: "Good to hear that you will not violate the law. But if elected, would you use your powers as President to change the law?" Here's the transcript. MSNBC Morning Joe 10/17/24 6:02 am EDT WILLIE GEIST: I think, first of all, Donald Trump successfully worked the refs. He said in the days leading up to this that Fox News had gotten weak and soft. He called Bret Baier soft. Bret Baier conducted that interview as if he had something to prove to the former President of the United States. MIKA BRZEZINSKI: Yeah . . . It was supposed to give viewers an opportunity to actually hear her plans as president. Instead, as you saw, it almost immediately devolved into an embarrassing, bad-faith effort by a once-respected host to play to an audience of one. . . .  When Kamala Harris realized the host was not going to let her speak, the only way the Vice President could give Fox viewers an opportunity to hear what she had to say was to talk back over him. Was he making sure that happened? I personally think, absolutely.  . . .  We witnessed a man who spent his life as a down-the-middle journalist, seeming to throw it all away for his audience of one, interrupting the vice president awkwardly and unnecessarily. . . .  DONNY DEUTSCH: I was quite repulsed by Bret Baier. I'd always liked him, always thought he was a straight shooter. And the attack mode from the beginning was quite stunning. ANAND GIRIDHARADAS: I loved, Mika, that you used the word fascism. The other f-word, the f-word of this moment. Because, I think many of us in the media, particularly a lot of the newspapers, have been very, very reluctant to say what is clear, right?  MIKA: Yes. GIRIDHARADAS: A tree is a tree. A river is a river. And fascism is fascism. It is a word with a dictionary definition. And if a tree is a tree. Fascism is And this, offered by, what is offered by Donald Trump and the Republican party today, is fascism. And we in the media need to say it.  And the other thing that Mika brought up, which I wanted to, you know, expand on for a second, is this notion of interruption, right? It was, it was, it was just a tick in that interview. But it was almost interruptionism last night.  I was watching last night. This is interruption as an art form. Interruption -- and it felt like interruption as a metaphor for a rising, new America, a new generation of leadership, a woman, a person of color in Kamala Harris, trying to speak. And this kind of figure of the old guard, who was offended at the notion that her voice had a volume, right? That her vocal cords made sound. Invited her on the show, and then was very, very angry that he could hear her. And it just felt like a metaphor for a minority in this country that is angry at the notion that a rising, pluralist, more pluralist new America is speaking, is around, is here. And a desire to interrupt not just a person but the future.

‘I’m taking crazy pills’: Dave Portnoy loses his mind over Democrats' latest gaslighting

While most celebrities are championing Kamala Harris, Dave Portnoy of Barstool Sports sees right through all the theater — and he can’t take it anymore. “Every once in a while, I get so fed up with politics I’ve got to do a rant and just let steam off. I try not to, but I’ve hit the boiling point, and it’s the gaslighting that the left is doing with Kamala Harris making it sound like she’s some great groundbreaking candidate,” Portnoy began. “She is the worst candidate ever to run for president, ever. There’s two people voting in this election. Either you’re voting for Donald Trump, you like Donald Trump, or you hate Donald Trump, and you’re voting against him,” he continued. “But Kamala Harris, let’s stop it.” Portnoy explained that what put him “over the edge” was hearing Kamala preach “change” and a “new way forward” at one of her recent rallies. “I see her at a rally today, and it’s the same message again. ‘Time to turn the page.’ She is the sitting vice president of the United States currently saying she’s the ‘candidate for change,’” Portnoy said in disbelief, before calling out "Call Her Daddy," "The View," and Stephen Colbert for asking her the “most simplest questions, softballs, that she probably knew were coming.” “Hey, Kamala, how are you different from Joe Biden? What will be different since you are the sitting vice president of the United States and now you’re out saying you’re the ‘candidate for change'? She cannot answer it. She can’t answer it. She is literally saying, ‘Well, I’ve pretty much been in every big decision, I’m the same as Joe Biden.’” “I can’t think of one thing different, it’s like I’m taking crazy pills,” he added. Dave Rubin of “The Rubin Report” couldn’t agree more. “Dave Portnoy, who wants to talk about sports, is like, ‘Jesus, look what they’re doing with this woman.’ They’re giving her the lowest-hanging fruit, it could not hang any lower. She is literally supposed to just pick the fruit up from the floor and eat it. That’s all she’s supposed to do,” Rubin says. How an Arkansas dad accused of shooting 67-year-old male who was with his missing daughter, just 14, could beat murder charge

An Arkansas father was arrested last week after allegedly shooting dead a 67-year-old man who was in a car with his missing 14-year-old daughter.Aaron Spencer, 36, reported to police around 1 a.m. last Tuesday that his daughter was missing, according to a press release from the Lonoke County Sheriff's Office. 'Aaron Spencer's legal team will clearly argue what's called a heat of passion.'"While en route, deputies were notified that the father, Aaron Spencer, had located the juvenile in a vehicle with Michael Fosler," the news release stated. The sheriff's office said there was a "confrontation" between Spencer and Fosler. Spencer is accused of shooting Fosler. Police said Fosler was pronounced dead at the scene.Spencer was taken into custody and transported to the Lonoke County Detention Center.Jail records show Spencer posted bail and was released Oct. 9, USA Today reported. The Lonoke County Sheriff's Office said Spencer is facing a preliminary charge of first-degree murder.Lonoke County Sheriff John Staley said in a video shared Oct. 10, "Currently, official charges have not been filed. I have not, nor will I advocate for any specific charges."Staley added, "This is a tragic situation, and my thoughts and prayers are with all those involved."Staley said that an investigation is ongoing and “only limited details can be released” at this time. On Friday, the sheriff told USA Today that Fosler had been arrested by another agency in July and booked for internet stalking of a child and sexual assault. Fosler was scheduled to appear in court in December. Fox News asked Attorney Brian Claypool — a social and legal commentator — if it's possible that Spencer could beat a murder charge."Aaron Spencer's legal team will clearly argue what's called a heat of passion. That is a defense in the state of Arkansas," Claypool explained. "And what that really means is that Spencer committed the alleged murder in the midst of an emotional disturbance."Claypool added: "Heat of passion reduces a charge of first-degree or second-degree murder down to manslaughter. That would be a big deal for Aaron Spencer because that can make the difference between getting convicted and spending 30 years to life in jail or serving five to 20 years in jail."Claypool noted that the confrontation between the two men could allow the defense to argue that their client shot Fosler in self-defense. He highlighted that most self-defense laws throughout the country apply when there is an "imminent fear of grave bodily harm to either themself or a family member."Spencer's wife — Heather Spencer — said she had launched a GoFundMe campaign to help pay for her husband's legal defense but said the campaign was taken down. GoFundMe's terms of service state: "You agree that you will not use the services or platform to raise funds or establish any fundraiser for the purposes of promoting or involving the legal defense of financial and violent crimes, including those related to money laundering, murder, robbery, assault, battery, sex crimes, or crimes against minors."Heather Spencer wrote on Facebook, "We have been absolutely overwhelmed with the amount of love and support we have received since this incident. I keep saying that we are private people, because we are. It’s been incredibly hard to see this posted all over social media. While we want and need the public’s help for Aaron’s case, we are still trying to process as a family what has happened to our child. We have been trying to navigate this the best we can for everyone."Like Blaze News? Bypass the censors, sign up for our newsletters, and get stories like this direct to your inbox. Sign up here!
