Analogue’s 4K Nintendo 64 launches next year for $249

Image: Analogue It won’t make it out in 2024 as originally planned, but Analogue is finally ready to share details on its take on a Nintendo 64. The Analogue 3D will launch early next year (the company says Q1 2025) and will cost $249.99. It comes in either black or white, and preorders kick off on October 21st at 11AM ET. In addition to the timing and price, Analogue also released the first images of the console: First announced at the beginning of the year, the Analogue 3D is a modern take on the N64, similar to previous Analogue consoles covering the NES, SNES, Sega Genesis, and Game Boy. The new console can render classic games in 4K and includes multiple display modes to mimic the look and feel of a CRT display. Analogue says it’s “designed with a... Continue reading…

M4 iPad Pro: Release date, OLED, price, features, iPadOS 18, Apple Pencil Pro, more

During its Let Loose event in May, Apple introduce the M4 iPad Pro. The thinnest iPad also includes a revolutionary OLED display, the M4 chip, and more. After months of rumors, here's everything you need to know about Apple's high-end and priciest tablet. Release date Image source: Apple Inc. Cupertino opened pre-orders for this tablet after the M4 iPad Pro was unveiled during Apple's Let Loose event on May 7. It has been available since May 15, 2024. Design: Apple embraces OLED and calls it Ultra Retina XDR Display iPad Pro (2022) Display Image source: Apple Inc. After differentiating both iPad Pro models by their display (LCD for the 11-inch model and miniLED for the 12.9-inch version), Apple has unified them with tandem OLED technology, which means Apple applies two OLED panels on top of the other. With 11-inch and 13-inch versions, this tablet offers everything you would expect from a high-end display and more. As anticipated by BGR, there are a ton of benefits with this Ultra Retina XDR panel. In addition, Apple continues to offer ProMotion technology with adaptive refresh rates from 10Hz to 120Hz, wide color (P3), fingerprinting-resistant oleophobic coating, standard brightness of 1,000 nits, and up to 1,600 nits for HDR content. Nano-texture display comes to the iPad Rumors were correct, and Apple added a nano-texture display option to the M4 iPad Pro. This is the first time Apple has added this technology to its tablets. Previously, it was only available for the Pro Display XDR and Studio Display products. However, there's a catch: Apple only offers nano-texture technology for models as an option for models with 1TB or 2TB of storage. Still, to add nano-texture, you need to pay $100 extra. Matte screen protectors are very popular for iPads since they improve drawing and writing with an Apple Pencil. In addition, this nano-texture glass has a blue-light blocking technology to help protect the eyes while also reducing reflection. These are the dimensions for the new iPad Pro If you care about the details, these are the dimensions for the new iPad Pro: 11-inch iPad Pro: 249.7 mm x 177.5 mm x 5.1 mm / previously: 247.6 mm x 178.5 mm x 5.9 mm 12.9-inch iPad Pro: 281.5 mm x 215.5 mm x 5.0 mm / previously: 280.6 mm 214.9 mm x 6.4 mm They also weigh less: 444 grams on the 11-inch model and 579 grams for the 13-inch option. Both weighs are for the Wi-Fi versions. However, they're as durable as their predecessors and won't bend that easily. Landscape front-facing camera is here – but the back ultrawide lens is gone M4 iPad Pro lost its ultra-wide camera lens Image source: Apple Inc. With the tenth-generation iPad, Apple switched the front-facing camera from the top to the center of its right side. This change improves how users appear on a video call, as people have been using the iPad more in horizontal mode rather than vertical. Thankfully, the new iPad Pro follows the trend, and Apple added a 12MP ultra-wide camera to a landscape orientation. It features ƒ/2.4 aperture, Portrait mode, Smart HDR 4 support, and 1080p HD video recording at up to 60 fps. This change also means the TrueDepth sensor for Face ID is also in landscape mode, so users need to put the iPad in landscape orientation to set facial recognition up for the first time. Besides that, Apple decided not to position the new iPad Pro as a capable video and photo recording tablet, as the company removed the ultra-wide lens and replaced it with the already-existing LiDAR Scanner. The main change is a new Adaptive True Tone flash, which Apple says is better for scanning documents. Color options The M4 iPad Pro is available in two colors: Silver Space Black They match the colors of the M3 MacBook Pro models. Apple took the leap, and the M4 processor powers the new iPad Image source: Apple Inc. While everyone expected Apple to unveil an M3 iPad Pro, the company has already decided to take the leap and introduce the M4 chip. It's made of the second-generation 3nm technology, which means it has several benefits compared to the A17 Pro and the M3 processors. It has a powerful new CPU with 4 performance cores and 6 efficiency cores, with next-gen ML generators. It is up to 50% faster than M2. With a 10-core GPU, it offers Dynamic Caching and hardware ray tracing, with 4x faster performance than M2 iPad Pro. M4 can deliver the same performance as the M2 with just half the power. The Neural Engine comes with a 16-core design, with up to 38 trillion operations per second—60x faster than Apple’s first Neural Engine. Benchmark tests show how fast it really is. Still, this data above is only for 1TB and 2TB iPad options with 16GB of RAM. Apple is taking some cores for the models with 256GB and 512GB of storage. Here's what most users will get: 9-core CPU with 3 performance cores and 6 efficiency cores 10-core GPU Hardware-accelerated ray tracing 16-core Neural Engine 120GB/s memory bandwidth 8GB RAM Apple likely skipped the M3 processor because the M4 is all about Apple Intelligence, which was announced with iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS 15 during WWDC 2024. Here are the specs of the high-end iPad: 256GB with 8GB of RAM 512GB with 8GB of RAM 1TB with 16GB of RAM 2TB with 16GB of RAM These are six hidden M4 iPad Pro features Apple didn't tell you about. Accessories Apple revamped the main iPad Pro accessories. Magic Keyboard gets a revamp Image source: Apple Inc. The newest Magic Keyboard is thinner and lighter than ever before. It has a function row to access features like screen brightness and volume controls. It also features an aluminum palm rest and a larger trackpad that’s even more responsive with haptic feedback. The new Magic Keyboard attaches magnetically. It costs $299 for the 11-inch model and $349 for the 13-inch version. Apple Pencil Pro could be the best update to this accessory ever Image source: Apple Inc. Apple Pencil Pro features powerful new interactions that take the Apple Pencil experience even further. A new sensor in the barrel can sense a user’s squeeze, bringing up a tool palette to quickly switch tools, line weights, and colors without interrupting the creative process. A custom haptic engine delivers a light tap that confirms when users squeeze, double-tap, or snap to a Smart Shape for an intuitive experience. A gyroscope allows users to roll Apple Pencil Pro for precise control of the tool they’re using. Rotating the barrel changes the orientation of the shaped pen and brush tools, just like pen and paper. With Apple Pencil hover, users can visualize the exact orientation of a tool before making a mark. This accessory also features Find My support. It costs $129. iPadOS 17 powers the 2024 iPad Pro Interactive widgets on iPad via iPadOS 17. Image source: Apple Inc. iPadOS 17 powers this iPad Pro. Even though there are a few new features, this operating system doesn't unlock the true potential of this hardware. Here are the main points of this system: New Lock Screen: iPadOS 17's new Lock Screen resembles the one available for iOS 16. It also introduces Live Activities support and adds widgets to this screen; Stage Manager: It offers a more flexible layout when moving and resizing windows (especially with an external display), so you can set up your workspace just how you want. In addition, you can use the built-in camera in your external display for FaceTime and conference calls for the first time; Freeform: Adds new drawing tools, such as a watercolor brush, calligraphy pen, highlighter, variable-width pen, and ruler. With Shape Recognition, users can hand draw a shape like a square and watch a perfect version snap into place. There's so much more available with iPadOS 17. iPadOS 18 leverages the M4 iPad Pro experience with Apple Intelligence to come After releasing iPadOS 18, some M4 iPad Pro users complained that this update was bricking their devices. Apple pulled out that update. A few weeks later, Apple released iPadOS 18.0.1. While iPadOS 18 brings a new Calculator app, Smart Script, and other features, the most important function of this cycle is Apple Intelligence, which will launch soon. Here's everything you need to know about available Apple Intelligence features Battery Apple says all models have up to 10 hours of surfing the web on Wi-Fi or watching video. They charge via a power adapter or USB-C to the computer system. The Cellular model offers up to nine hours of surfing the web using a cellular data network. Here's why the iPad Pro's battery life is so amazing. Price Image source: Apple Inc. The new M4 iPad Pro is Apple's most expensive iPad. Still, it has new perks, such as double the storage of the base model. Here are all the price configurations for this device. M4 iPad Pro 11-inch Wi-Fi 256GB: $999 512GB: $1,199 1TB: $1,599 2TB: $1,999 M4 iPad Pro 13-inch Wi-Fi 256GB: $1,299 512GB: $1,499 1TB: $1,899 2TB: $2,299 You can add $199 for cellular connectivity and $100 extra for nano-texture on the 1TB and 2TB models. An upgraded pick would be the TP-Link RE715X WiFi 6 Range Extender with Plug & Play Mesh Technology at $120. What is a Best Buy wifi extender people like? People do tend to search Best Buy when it comes to computer and electronic products. Some of the favorites on there include the Linksys - AC750 Boost Range Extender, which has 4,875 reviews, and the NETGEAR Nighthawk X4 AC220 Dual-Band Wi-Fi Range Extender, which has 2,548 reviews. The wifi extender Best Buy has a sale on right now is the Nighthawk. Do WiFi extenders & boosters really work? These can definitely boost your WiFi, but there are circumstances that you need to be aware of. The speed of your Internet is a huge factor, as the faster Internet can be boosted more easily. How much WiFi you use is also a big factor, as it can be harder for more devices to share a signal. How far away you are from the router and or extender will also change the effectiveness. Also, where you live matters, as secluded areas with lots of trees can find it harder to pick up signals. What is the difference between a WiFi extender and a WiFi booster? A WiFi extender is a device that you place between your router and any dead spots in your home. That way, your dead spots are more limited. A WiFi extender falls under the WiFi booster umbrella, as a WiFi booster refers to a device that helps broaden your WiFi signal area. Do WiFi extenders make WiFi faster? WiFi extenders can, in a sense, make your WiFi faster. They eliminate dead spots in your home and help broaden your WiFi signal so your devices can start to work more efficiently and quickly. But they don't add overall speed to your network connection. How can I boost my WiFi signal in my home? If you live in a place with many dead spots, a WiFi booster device is a smart choice. An extender or booster will add to your regular WiFi signal to eliminate dead zones. How can I increase my WiFi speed at home? If you're looking to get the most out of your current WiFi connections, a WiFi extender and booster can help. You can also upgrade your current Internet package if you're looking for more speed. Does a WiFi extender slow down Internet speed? No. On the contrary, it helps speed up the WiFi, eliminating dead zones and making your devices faster. Can I use 2 WiFi extenders? Yes. This is even encouraged if you live in a large place with many dead spots. Can a router be used as a WiFi extender? You can configure an old router to be used as an extender. You can modify it so that it grabs the strong WiFi signal and redistributes it to harder-to-reach areas. How can I boost my WiFi range extender? Make sure you put it in the right place to get rid of the dead spots. Which is better, a repeater or an extender? A WiFi repeater connects to your network wirelessly and then uses that network signal and sends it out again. A WiFi extender connects directly to your router in order to create a new WiFi network. That way, you can connect to the new WiFi network for a boosted signal. Repeaters aren't great for areas where the original signal is weak. How can I boost my WiFi signal for free? Moving your router to a better area is an easy way to do this. You should also make sure the antenna is pointing in the right direction. Another option is to adjust your router settings to better accommodate what you need. What is the maximum range of WiFi? The traditional 2.4GHz band can reach up to 150 feet indoors and 300 feet outdoors, while 5GHz reaches a shorter distance. How do I extend my WiFi signal to another building 400 feet away? You will need a lot of help, such as an antenna, a WiFi booster, a bridge, a mesh WiFi system, and more. It can be done, but you'll have to set everything up properly to make it happen. Can WiFi go through walls? Yes, but it will struggle to go through metal and brick. What is a mesh WiFi extender? Mesh Wifi is meant for your entire home as it is nodes that are placed in each room to help boost the coverage of your home. The Wifi extender is placed between the dead spots and your router to extend the WiFi area. Should WiFi extenders have the same SSID? Yes, this way, your device that connects to Wi-Fi can seamlessly roam from one access point to another. Otherwise you would have to manually disconnect from the weak network and manually connect to the strong network. How can I fix a weak WiFi signal? Placing a WiFi extender will help fix a weak signal. A WiFi repeater won't be as successful if the signal is weak and you're not using ethernet to connect them. One of the Earth’s Earliest Animals Discovered in Australian Outback

By McKenzie Harris/Florida State University In the shadow of South Australia’s largest mountain range beneath the outback soil lies a fossil record that reveals a rich history of life on Earth. Fossils found at Nilpena Ediacara National Park preserve a pivotal moment in the history of evolution: the crucial period during which single-celled organisms began to evolve into the planet’s first complex, visible animals. A new discovery in the area by Scott Evans, assistant professor of geology in the Florida State University Department of Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Science, and a multi-institution team of paleontologists has identified an early marine animal from around 555 million years ago. The discovery helps answer how life evolved on Earth. Quaestio simpsonorum is the first animal to show definitive left-right asymmetry, an important sign of evolutionary development. The team’s findings appear in the September issue of Evolution & Development.
