Quintessential Idaho: Driver Spots World’s Largest Potato Cruising Down The Road

Some questions need answers. Who’s half-baked idea was it to give the potato a driver’s license? How did it grow so big? It’s technically blind because, although it does have eyes, it cannot see, so how can it drive? We could go on, but we’ll stop there and get to explaining some things. Technically, the world’s largest potato isn’t a potato; it’s an Airbnb. Wait… WHAT? Please don’t get all mashed on us; we’ll get to that soon. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Superinnovators (@superinnovators) According to Guinness World Records, the Heaviest (real) Potato is 10 pounds, 14 ounces. It was grown by Peter Glazebrook from Nottinghamshire in the UK. GWR confirmed the weight at Royal Bath & West Showground in Shepton Mallet, Somerset, UK. That happened on September 4, 2011. However, that is NOT the world’s largest (real) potato that was seen cruising along the highway. Image from Facebook. Spotted in Savannah, Georgia, that potato is the spokes spud for the Idaho Potato Commission (IPC). The huge tuber travels around the country on its semi-trailer, bringing the gospel of starch to all willing ears. You can learn more about the tour schedule here. You can also follow the tour on Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube. Image from IPC. We Weren’t Lying About The World’s Largest Potato Airbnb We promised you a spudsy Airbnb and are about to add the cheese and broccoli to that idea for you. However, this one is no longer on a trailer, so you’ll need to travel to Boise, Idaho. The Big Idaho Potato Hotel is a retired spud spending its waning years lounging in a pasture. You can rent the potato, which is now a cozy spud stay location. The Big Idaho Potato Hotel is on 400 acres of farmland. The facility includes a mini fridge, potato-centric decor, a comfortable bed, and other neat amenities. The converted silo next door is a spa retreat. We saved the best for last. For the duration of your spud stay, you get custody of a cute Jersey cow who will pretend they are your pet. You can get more information and make reservations here. Imagine that. Living in a potato with a pet cow! How could life be any better? Please share if you enjoyed seeing how versatile Idaho potatoes can be. You can find the source of this story’s featured image here. The 1969 Berkshire UFO Incident That Left a Town in Shock

On the night of September 1, 1969, an otherwise peaceful Labor Day in the quiet town of Sheffield, Massachusetts, was disrupted by a series of mysterious events. That night, numerous witnesses across Berkshire County reported seeing strange, unidentifiable flying objects in the sky. Some even claimed to have experienced missing time and encounters with extraterrestrial beings. What happened that night has come to be known as the Berkshire UFO incident, a case that remains one of the most compelling and well-documented mass UFO sightings in U.S. history. What exactly occurred in Berkshire on that fateful night? And why has the case continued to resonate, more than fifty years later? The Reed family was surrounded by terrifying, brightly colored lights (Credit: Unsolved Mysteries) A Night of Strange Lights and Missing Time Around 8:00 p.m. on September 1, 1969, multiple residents of Berkshire County began to notice strange lights in the sky. These were not ordinary aircraft lights or atmospheric anomalies, but bright, colorful orbs that moved in ways inconsistent with known flight patterns. The phenomenon was seen by dozens of individuals, spanning various towns including Sheffield, Great Barrington, and Stockbridge. Families who were out enjoying the last hours of the holiday weekend were among the first to notice the unusual lights. One of the most well-known witnesses of the event is Thomas Reed, a then-nine-year-old boy who was driving with his family along Route 7 near Sheffield. According to Reed, the family saw a disc-shaped object hovering over their car before experiencing what he described as a period of missing time. “We all looked at it because it was kind of a self-contained glow,” Thomas Reed said. “It rose up a little bit. It looked like it followed the dirt road, which I’m sure it probably didn’t, but it appeared that way because we could see it through the trees. The light started to bleed through once we broke into a little bit of a clearing. We could see inside the car so the light was flooding inside the car.” “We encountered something,” Reed said. “It was definitely not of this world. We had a black and white television at time and the imagery that we saw on this thing was unbelievable. There were lights that looked like fluorescent tubing inside this hangar.” “This hallway we had seen was circular with a Y-configuration almost to control the flow of traffic. This one room had a bowed-in wall that was rounded. This was not something that you would have seen in 1969 anywhere else. I have no idea where I was, but I know that what I saw was very different than anything I’ve even seen today 50 years later.” Thom Reed. Credit: Unsolved Mysteries When they regained their awareness, they were approximately a mile from their previous location with no memory of how they had gotten there. Reed and his family were later subjected to extensive interviews and even underwent polygraph tests, all of which suggested that they were telling the truth—or at least believed their account to be truthful. The Great Barrington Historical Society has gone so far as to officially recognize the event, placing it in their archives as a significant occurrence in local history. In an interview with The Boston Globe, Deborah Oppermann, executive director of the historical society, stated, “The documentation is amazing. There was more than one credible source. It’s not just a UFO story; it’s a historical fact documented by dozens of eyewitnesses.” In addition to the Reed family, others in the area also experienced unusual events that night. Jane Green, another local resident, reported seeing a large, bright object in the sky that hovered above her car. Green, a well-known figure in the town, recounted her story during an interview with Unsolved Mysteries, saying, “This was no ordinary light. It was massive and silent. It was nothing I had ever seen before.” Her detailed description of the object has been consistent over the years, even as the story has gained national attention. UFO Sightings and Government Response According to Dr. Robert Powell, a scientist and investigator for the Scientific Coalition for UAP Studies (SCU), the Berkshire incident is notable because of the number of credible witnesses and the consistency of their accounts. “When you have multiple independent witnesses describing similar events from different locations, it becomes much harder to dismiss their reports as mere fabrications or hallucinations,” Powell explained in an interview with The Washington Post. “This case is one of the most well-documented mass sightings, and to this day, it has not been adequately explained.” The government’s stance on UFOs during this period was largely shaped by Project Blue Book, a U.S. Air Force program that investigated UFO sightings between 1952 and 1969. While the majority of cases were dismissed as misidentified weather balloons or other known phenomena, some incidents—including the Berkshire sightings—were left unresolved. The program officially closed in December 1969, just three months after the Berkshire incident, citing a lack of evidence to suggest that UFOs posed a threat to national security. However, recent revelations from the Pentagon’s UAP (Unidentified Aerial Phenomena) Task Force have reignited interest in these older cases. Declassified reports from the Pentagon indicate that the U.S. government has continued to study unexplained aerial phenomena in secret, even after Project Blue Book’s closure. These developments have led some to wonder whether the Berkshire incident could be reexamined in light of new information. The event has gained increasing recognition beyond the borders of Berkshire County. The Netflix series Unsolved Mysteries dedicated an episode to the case in its 2020 reboot, bringing the story to a global audience. This renewed attention has encouraged some witnesses who had remained silent for years to come forward, adding further layers to the already complex story. In 2015, a group of residents who experienced the 1969 UFO incident came together to raise funds for a monument commemorating the event. (Credit: Heather Bellow/The Berkshire Edge) What Remains Unanswered As with many UFO sightings, the 1969 Berkshire incident raises more questions than it answers. What exactly were the lights seen by dozens of witnesses? How do we explain the reports of missing time and strange physical effects? And why, after so many years, has no definitive explanation been offered? While some skeptics point to the possibility of mass hysteria or the misidentification of experimental aircraft, others argue that these explanations fail to account for the sheer number of credible witnesses and the consistency of their stories. Dr. David M. Jacobs, a UFO researcher and professor at Temple University, suggests that the incident may be part of a broader pattern of UFO encounters that defy conventional scientific understanding. “The Berkshire case is significant because it involves so many people over a large geographic area,” Jacobs told The New York Times. “It’s not an isolated incident, and it fits into a larger global phenomenon that we still don’t fully understand.” While the town of Sheffield and the surrounding areas have returned to their quiet ways, growing public interest in UFO phenomena and new government transparency regarding UAPs suggest that perhaps the day will come when the questions surrounding the Berkshire incident are finally answered. New Final Fantasy 14 free login campaign invites you back ahead of patch 7.1

Now that the Dawntrail dust has settled and patch 7.1 is finally on the way, Final Fantasy 14 has gone comparatively quiet. Limsa is still as busy as ever, but I’ve found queueing for the less-popular duties a bit harder. Many are taking a well-deserved break until the next update, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t a lot you can do in the meantime. Perhaps you’ve got some MSQ to finish, side quests to complete, or even alliance raids to catch up on. If that’s you and you want to jump back in, Square Enix just made it an awful lot easier.
