New Led Zeppelin documentary finally has a release date

The new Led Zeppelin documentary was first screened at the 78th Venice Film Festival with the presence of the band's co-founder, guitarist and producer Jimmy Page. It received a 10-minute standing ovation and since then millions of fans were waiting for the documentary which is mixed with a concert to be released. Four years later, the trailer is finally out and it will hit the theatres next February 7, available on IMAX. The guitarist Jimmy Page said earlier this year that an authorized documentary wasn't made previously because people wanted to focus on everything but the music. He is pleased with this one because it's mainly focused on the music the Hard Rock band did. Watch the trailer of "Becoming Led Zeppelin" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SizyLV-O_cc&t=1s In a press release to announce the movie, the writer and producer Allison McGourty talked about how the film was made. "We spent five years flying back and forth across the Atlantic scouring attics and basements in pursuit of rare and unseen film footage, photographs and music recordings. Then we transferred each piece of media with custom techniques, so that in IMAX, these 55-year-old clips and music would look and sound like they came out of the lab yesterday,” Allison McGourty. Besides interviews with the band's surviving members Jimmy Page (Guitarist, producer), John Paul Jones (Bass, keyboardist) and Robert Plant (Vocalist), the documentary will also feature a never before heard interview with the late legendary drummer John Bonham. He tragically passed away in 1980 at the age of 32 and that was why the band came to an end. The other three members decided that they could not continue without John since he was an integral part of the band's sound. In the following decades Robert Plant constructed a successful and praised solo career while Jones and Page were not that commercially successful in their projects or bands. The post New Led Zeppelin documentary finally has a release date appeared first on Rock and Roll Garage.

Gene Simmons says everyone becomes a musician for the same reason

Gene Simmons says everyone becomes a musician for the same reason

The Kiss co-founder, bassist, singer and songwriter Gene Simmons believes every man, at least, becomes a musician for the same reason: to attract girls. That's what Gene told the Zak Kuhn Show (Transcribed by Ultimate Guitar). According to him, the first reason is the girls and then the money, because if a person only wanted money she could be a dentist or a plumber, but according to him, girls don't care if you are a good plumber. Gene Simmons says everyone becomes a musician for the same reason "I'm comfortable in my own skin. I know how good I am (As a bassist). And I know my shortcomings. And what other people have to say about it is, well, they're unqualified to have an opinion. They haven't been there, and they haven't done that. I listen and I appreciate people's point of view, but it doesn't pierce my thick skin. Doesn't mean anything." "The 'why' did you do this? Well, the real answer is, I did it for the same reason that Springsteen and everybody else does it… Did it, in our younger years, even though they don't admit it, is because initially you wanted the chicks. And then you wanted the money, and then there was a split." "Some artists thought they were, 'I have the secret life,' or 'I want to be deep and poetic, and credibility' and all that stuff. But initially, we all did it for the same reason. Otherwise, we would have all gotten our dentist or plumber's license and did that. But chicks don't care if you're a good plumber," Gene Simmons said. The musician helped to form Kiss back in 1973 in New York City alongside Paul Stanley, Ace Frehley and Peter Criss. He and Paul were the only ones who were part of the band during the five decades they were active until their final show at the Madison Square Garden in 2023. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mt2n5Zc4q1I&t=32sThe post Gene Simmons says everyone becomes a musician for the same reason appeared first on Rock and Roll Garage.

What Frank Sinatra told Bob Dylan about their eyes when they met

Bob Dylan changed the course of songwriting and music in the 60s with the release of his first albums. In the music business for almost six decades, the musician had the chance to meet many incredible artists over the decades. One of them was the legendary singer Frank Sinatra, who he respected and even did some cover albums of pop standards made famous by the late singer. But as he recalled in an interview with Bill Flanagan in 2015, the first time the two met, Frank said something about their eyes. What Frank Sinatra told Bob Dylan about their eyes when they met Back in 1995a TV special "Sinatra: 80 Years My Way" was made and featured names like Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen. The Folk Rock musician recalled in the interview that after the tribute they were invited to Sinatra's house to meet him. "Not really (He didn't know my work that well). I think he knew 'The Times They Are a-Changin’'and 'Blowin’ In the Wind.' I know he liked 'Forever Young,' he told me that. He was funny, we were standing out on his patio at night and he said to me, 'You and me, pal, we got blue eyes, we’re from up there,' and he pointed to the stars. 'These other bums are from down here.' I remember thinking that he might be right," Bob Dylan said. In 2015 Dylan released "Shadows In The Night", an album of pop standards made famous by Frank Sinatra. In the following years he released two more cover albums with songs made famous by the late singer. They were "Fallen Angels" (2016) and "Triplicate" (2017). Frank Sinatra was active from 1935 until 1995. He passed away in 1998 at the age of 82, a victim of a heart attack. The words written on his gravestone are "the best is yet to come". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F44DBpIyAh0&pp=ygUXZnJhbmsgc2luYXRyYSBib2IgZHlsYW4%3DThe post What Frank Sinatra told Bob Dylan about their eyes when they met appeared first on Rock and Roll Garage.

The guitarist that Queen’s Brian May said is very underrated

The guitarist Brian May helped to form Queen alongside Roger Taylor and Freddie Mercury back in 1970 and was a fundamental part of the band's sound and songwriting. Besides his incredible technique, the "Red Special", a guitar designed with his late father when he was a kid and the fact that he uses a coin instead of a pick to play, gave the final touch to make him one of the most influential and unique guitar players of his generation. In the music business for more than five decades, Brian had the chance to see the evolution of Rock and Roll music. Many fantastic guitarists appeared over the years and there is one that he said is "very underrated". The guitarist that Queen's Brian May said is very underrated The guitarist that Brian May called very underrated is Extreme's Nuno Bettencourt, both are good friends and May praised him many times. In 2020, the Queen member was elected by the readers of Total Guitar magazine the best guitar player of all time. Although he was happy about that, he mentioned many other musicians who he thought were also amazing. One of them of course was Nuno. “Oh, now there’s an awesome player. Incredible. Nuno is outrageous! We’ve played together a lot and we’ve hung out together a lot. I think one of the most memorable nights was when Extreme played the Freddie Tribute (concert at Wembley Stadium in 1992). I didn’t really know what was gonna happen. They kept it a secret. I thought they were going to come on and play a lot of their hits, but they came on and did an entire Queen extravaganza." “And I watched it with my jaw dropped open. It was incredible, the depth they’d gone into to play it so beautifully and perfectly but also with their own interpretation so that was an amazing moment. I remember talking to Nuno afterwards and I said, ‘I had no idea you were going to do that’ and he went, ‘No, you didn’t, did you?’ Amazing! But his soloing? Beyond belief! I feel rather sad that they didn’t continue on as a band (They split in 1996 but are reunited since 2007). They didn’t really achieve their potential in the world. It’s very odd." He continued: “They had that massive hit with 'More Than Words' and then I think unfortunately it was difficult for their audience to appreciate what they really were as a band. It was one of those strange moments where you get a hit but it doesn’t define you in the way you want to be defined. That’s the way I see it. Because they’re a magnificent group. Nuno’s really very underrated I would say. He’s one of the greats. One of the greatest living guitarists, I would say," Brian May said. As Brian said, Extreme played at The Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert in 1992. The Queen guitarist even collaborated with them on their cover of Queen’s “Love of My Life.” He said that "Get The Funk Out" guitar solo is "the epitome of what a solo should be" https://youtu.be/fqkKFhFMaIw In a recorded interview (Transcribed by Rock and Roll Garage) Brian May praised the guitar solo of the song "Get The Funk Out", from Extreme's 1990 album "Extreme II: Pornograffitti". He explained how the guitar solo is amazingly constructed and that he could never learn that solo. “If that doesn’t bring tears to your eyes as a guitarist. I don’t know where things are. And there’s more, you know. That to me is the epitome of what a solo should be on record. Of course it’s preconceived, it’s built, it’s constructed. But within that is this incredible kind of spontaneity that’s there. It sounds like it’s coming straight out of inside him, and it is, you know. Those things don’t happen very often.” “On pure technical ability alone, that’s colossal. I could never do that. No way in a month of Sundays could I learn that solo. It’s Nuno’s own thing. So it’s a stupendous thing, it’s a landmark. That’s a landmark in rock history,” Brian May said. Nuno was born in Praia da Vitória, Portugal back in 1966. He started his musical career in 1985, the same year Extreme was formed. The post The guitarist that Queen’s Brian May said is very underrated appeared first on Rock and Roll Garage.
