From the Countryside to the Terraced Estates: Lesser-Known UFO and Alien Encounters of the United Kingdom

Just about every country on the planet has UFO encounters on record. The United Kingdom, perhaps particularly due to its size, has more than its fair share. While some of these, such as the Rendlesham Forest incident, are well-known inside and outside of the UFO community, many others are far lesser known.

A Year After Hamas Terrorist Attack, 4 US Citizens Remain Hostage

Monday marks 365 days since Hamas terrorists took U.S. citizens hostage. Four American men—Edan Alexander, Sagui Dekel-Chen, Omer Neutra, and Keith Siegel—are believed to be still alive, along with nearly 100 Israelis also taken hostage by Hamas. About 1,200 Israelis were killed Oct. 7 during Hamas’ terrorist attack exactly one year ago, a rampage of rape, torture, and murder in southern Israel. The terrorists took another 240 as hostages.  Hostage negotiations remain stalled, with little progress in recent weeks.  An Israeli-American hostage, Hersh Goldberg-Polin, was murdered in the Gaza Strip about a month ago after enduring 11 months in captivity. His body was recovered in Gaza.  The bodies of three other Americans—Itay Chen, Judy Weinstein, and Gad Haggai—also are believed to be in Gaza.  Some details on the four Americans believed to be alive: Edan Alexander Alexander, now 20, was born in Tel Aviv but grew up in Tenafly, New Jersey. He was serving in Israeli’s Golani Brigade when Hamas terrorists attacked Israel. Alexander spoke to his mother on the morning of the attack and told her he was safe; shortly thereafter, his parents were unable to reach him.  Sagui Dekel-Chen On Oct. 7, Dekel-Chen was living in Kibbutz Nir Oz with his wife and two daughters. He was busy at work that morning when he saw Hamas terrorists entering the kibbutz. Dekel-Chen climbed onto the roof of the Kibbutz’s communal dining room to issue a warning before running home to his family. Finding them in a bomb shelter, he went back into the kibbutz to fight off the terrorists. He was one of about 80 residents of Kibbutz Nir Oz to be taken hostage that day.  Dekel-Chen’s third daughter was born during his captivity. Omer Neutra Neutra was born in New York City in 2001. After high school, Neutra took a gap year and participated in a leadership program in Israel. After a year there, Neutra decided to join the Israel Defense Forces and became a tank commander. On Oct. 7, he was serving close to Israel’s border with Gaza. Neutra’s tank was found empty shortly after the terrorist attack.  Keith Siegel Siegel and his wife were taken from their home in Kibbutz Kfar Aza on Oct. 7. Aviva Siegel was released Nov. 26, but her husband remains a hostage in Gaza.  Siegel, 65, is originally from Chapel Hill, North Carolina. He and his wife hid in their safe room during the Hamas attack, but terrorists found them and took them from their home. Aviva Siegel said terrorists shoved her husband, breaking his ribs, and shot him in the hand.  As Israelis and Americans mark the one-year anniversary of the Oct. 7 terrorist attack, Yael Eckstein, president and CEO of the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews, sits down with The Daily Signal. In the interview, Eckstein talks about how the day will be remembered in Israel and what life has been like in the Jewish state since the attack. Sealed Etruscan sarcophagus found at Bisenzio

An excavation at the Etruscan site of Bisenzio in central Italy has uncovered a rare sealed stone sarcophagus with rich funerary furnishings and an intact skeleton dating to the 7th or 6th century B.C. Founded near what is now the town of Capodimonte on the southwestern shore of Lake Bolsena, the Etruscan city of Vesnth or Vishnth held strategic, commerical and political importance at the heart of ancient Etruria as early as the Villanovan period (9th-8th century B.C.), Bisenzio grew to regional importance in the 7th century B.C. Orientalising period. It became a flourishing center of trade and communications with other Etruscan city-states like Tarquinia, Vulci and Orvieto and the wider Mediterranean, including Greece and Phoenicia. The Bisenzio Project has been excavating the site since 2015, and their discoveries over the field seasons have revealed that the city-state had a dynamic aristocratic elite during the Orientalizing and Archaic eras (7th-6th century B.C.). Previous scholarship underestimated the wealth and importance of Bisenzio among the city-states of Etruria, but the recent excavations have found the remains of monumental public works, temples and ceremonial centers, and a rich complement of artifacts attesting to the extent of the city’s trade connections and deep pockets. The 2024 field season unearthed a burial ground with tombs dating to between the 7th century B.C. and the late 6th century B.C. Unlike most of the tombs previously found at Bisenzio, these had never been subjected to the depredations of looters, giving archaeologists a unique glimpse into the city’s funerary practices and societal dynamics. One section of the necropolis was protected by a walled enclosure. Archaeologists believe the boundary line delimited a small family nucleus within the larger burial ground. The graves partially overlap each other, a possible indicator of familial relationships. The oldest of the burials in the walled section contains a large, thick-walled tufa sarcophagus. It was still sealed when unearthed, and surrounded by grave goods including decorated ceramics, a bronze situla (wine bucket) and an assortment of jewelry in precious metals. The lid was so heavy, the team needed to deploy an excavator to remove it. Extremely rare for so old a burial, the sealed sarcophagus still contained the well-preserved skeletal remains of an adult buried with a small pot by the body. Thanks to the exceptional conditions of conservation, the sarcophagus has returned a completely preserved skeleton, a rare and unique case. Through the osteoarchaeological, isotopic and archaeogenomic analyses already planned by the scholars of the Bisenzio Project, it will be possible to reconstruct the microhistory of the individual, presumably one of the eminent figures to whom we can attribute the planning and construction of some of the imposing structures built by the community at the time of Bisenzio’s greatest splendor that have been recently discovered.
