Bose’s new SoundLink Home is one of its best-looking wireless speakers

Image: Bose Bose has announced a new addition to its long-running SoundLink line of wireless speakers. Most of Bose’s speakers have a colorful and durable design that shrugs off sand and water during an afternoon at the beach, but the new $219 SoundLink Home uses materials like anodized aluminum and a fabric speaker cover for a more premium appearance designed to complement the home. Battery life is rated up to nine hours after a four-hour charge through the speaker’s USB-C port, which doubles as an audio input for connecting to sources like laptops with a cable. The SoundLink Home includes support for Bluetooth 5.3 with a wireless range of about 30 feet, and it can be paired with other SoundLink Home speakers for stereo sound. It lacks Wi-Fi,... Instagram’s ‘best practices’ tell creators how they should post

Illustration: Alex Castro / The Verge Instagram is more explicitly telling content creators, businesses, and other users how they should be posting to the platform via a new feature called “best practices.” The best practices hub is available for professional accounts on Instagram and is accessible through the professional dashboard. The feature is marketed as an educational tool to help creators make engaging content, and the hub includes tips for making, sharing, and monetizing their videos and photos. Some of the tips are fairly generic social media strategies, like “track long-term follower growth” and “consistently post more.” Others are more specific and could signal Instagram’s corporate priorities: a tip on my account, for example, tells me that Reels that are longer... How to control an iPad with your iPhone

Apple offers many accessibility features across its ecosystem of devices. For example, if you want to remotely control your iPad with your iPhone, you can perform a variety of actions with a tap instead of sliding your fingers. Even though iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 are full of new features, the ability to control an iPad with an iPhone remotely is a bit limited. Here's how to control an iPad with your iPhone and what you can do with it. With both devices connected to the same network, open the Settings app on your iPhone; Under Accessibility, tap Control Nearby Devices; A list will appear with all the Apple devices you can control with your iPhone; Tap the name of the device and start controlling it. Image source: José Adorno for BGR It's important to note that in addition to requiring being in the same Wi-Fi network, the devices need to be signed in to the same Apple account. That being said, this is what you can do by controlling your iPad remotely with your iPhone: Open the Home Screen Open Multitasking Open Notification Center Open Control Center Call Siri There are also media controller buttons: Play/Pause Previous Track Next Track Volume Up Volume Down At this moment, it's impossible to control a pointer on your iPad or freely open apps and control them. Currently, the best use for these accessibility features is the ability to interact with media even if you're far from your iPad. You can also create a shortcut to make this accessibility feature easy to access: Go to Settings and Accessibility Choose Accessibility Shortcut, then select the feature you want (such as Control Nearby Devices If you select only one feature, it immediately turns on or off when you click the button shortcut Just tap the side button three times to activate or deactivate it In addition to this function, iOS 18 is full of new features, including some hidden ones that can change how you use your iPhone, whether it's a new model or the brand-new iPhone 16 lineup. Apple releases beta 3 of watchOS 11.1, tvOS 18.1, and visionOS 2.1

Apple is focused on releasing Apple Intelligence for iPhone, iPad, and Mac users next month. Even in beta, this AI platform is the company’s hope for the future. In addition to the new beta versions of iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS Sequoia 15.1, Cupertino is now rolling out beta 3 of watchOS 11.1, tvOS 18.1, and visionOS 2.1. At this moment, it’s unclear what’s new with watchOS 11.1, tvOS 18.1, and visionOS 2.1. However, Apple has some delayed features for these operating system updates) that might be added to the beta cycle in the near future. These are some of them: watchOS 11, for example, still needs support for sleep apnea. Even though the FDA approved it, Apple has to add this function to the latest watchOS 11.1 beta. tvOS 18 has these features delayed, and tvOS 18.1 beta might add them: Robot vacuum cleaners are now compatible with the Home app, so they can participate in automation and scenes and can be activated by a user’s voice using Siri. Screen savers: Movies and TV screen savers are yet to be added; 21:9 support: When connecting your Apple TV to a projector, Apple will give you the option to watch content in this frame. visionOS 2 also lacks one important feature, and visionOS 2.1 beta could add them: Mac Virtual Display: It will feature a higher resolution and larger size, creating an ultra-wide display equivalent to two 4K monitors side by side.  In addition, a rumor expects Apple to add Apple Intelligence to Apple Vision Pro in 2025. With that, Apple’s spatial computer would be part of this AI platform with the iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Cupertino could potentially be waiting for Apple Intelligence to launch and get its best features before expanding to another software. If Apple adds new features to watchOS 11.1, tvOS 18.1, and visionOS 2.1 in beta 3, we’ll make sure to update this article with the latest features. With these system major updates just released to all users, we can’t wait to see what else Apple has in store for them. While these updates will likely arrive next month, Apple also might be planning an October event. Below, you can learn everything we expect to see at it.
