'Absolute class act': Chicago Cubs player had an awesome surprise for fans who attended the last game of the season

Chicago Cubs player Ian Happ rewarded some attendees at Wrigley Field as part of his ongoing tradition to support the loyal fans. The Cubs lost their last game of the season 3-0 to the Cincinnati Reds, finishing with an 83-79 record and missing the playoffs for the fourth straight year.Happ, however, has made it his goal to pay it forward to the typically rowdy Cubs fans who sit behind him in left field.Per a fan's Instagram post, Happ passed a signed ball into the stands with a note written on it: "Thanks for the support all season! Beers for the left field crew on me!"The ball was wrapped with three $100 bills."[Ian Happ] just tossed this ball to us with some $ to buy our section some drinks for the last game of the year! What a guy! Cheers Ian!" the fan wrote."He does this every year, dude is a legend," a fan confirmed online. He does this every year, dude is a legend— Jacob Zanolla (@jacobzanolla) September 29, 2024 Indeed Happ has made this his tradition, with Block Club Chicago noting that the outfielder made the same gesture with the signed ball and money in 2023. Luckily for the fans, Happ tripled his budget for 2024 after providing $100 in 2023.The fan who received the ball both years is a known superfan named Jeff Gorski. He describes himself as "that guy who's always in [left field] at Wrigley."Gorski said last year that Happ acknowledges him and his crew during games, asks for their opinions on replays, and engages in banter during slow points in the game."It's humanizing," Gorski added. "We're all people out here, and we want the same thing: for the Cubs to win."Gorksi also called Happ an "absolute class act" in a post on X.Not everyone was impressed with the gesture of the two-time Gold Glove winner, though."So nice of him to buy the left field fans 6 beers," a fan mocked."$300 bucks will buy what, 25 beers at wrigley?" a second person alleged."Secretly showing you he has money," another wrote. So nice of him to buy the left field fans 6 beers— AJ (@AJ__2K) September 29, 2024 Despite the mockery, the fans were definitely there for Happ and the Cubs this year. Despite the Cubs' average win-loss record, fans came out in droves to give the team the sixth-highest average attendance in the entire major leagues at 35,922.Ahead of the Cubs in attendance were the Atlanta Braves, San Diego Padres, Philadelphia Phillies, New York Yankees, and Los Angeles Dodgers. The Dodgers were by far the biggest draw this year at 48,657 fans on average.Like Blaze News? Bypass the censors, sign up for our newsletters, and get stories like this direct to your inbox. NBA player AJ Griffin exits $17M contract to follow Jesus: 'The Lord was calling me'

Third-year NBA player AJ Griffin is giving up professional basketball to serve in ministry full-time.Just ahead of the 2024-25 NBA season, Griffin announced on his YouTube page that he would be stepping away from basketball after reaching an agreement to be waived by the Houston Rockets."I gave up basketball to follow Jesus,” Griffin said. "I know that … it seems like a loss in the world's eyes, but I just want to let you guys know that I'm super excited because I truly get to serve God with my full 'yes.'""Letting go of basketball has allowed me to go into full-time ministry and truly serving the Lord with all my heart. With all my time too," Griffin continued.CBS Sports reported that Griffin agreed to a $250,000 buyout with the Rockets as part of an agreement to let the him sit out for a season while he determined whether or not he would continue playing. He was traded to the Rockets from the Atlanta Hawks over the summer.'Jesus, he’s the only one that can fulfill you. He’s the only one that can give you purpose.'According to Spotrac, Griffin signed a four-year, $17.1 million contract with the Hawks in 2022, with an average salary of $4.276 million. His contract is also listed as fully guaranteed, so it remains unclear whether his contract included clauses that allowed payment if he retired. Sports Illustrated announced that Griffin did "officially" retire. If that is true, Griffin would not qualify for the NBA pension program, which provides monthly payments for players who have at least three years of service."This really has to start off with me giving my life to Christ in 2020," Griffin said in his video. "I truly accepted him back then. He found me. I know we say we find God, but he finds us. … It was the best decision of my life."Griffin went on saying, “Jesus, he’s the only one that can fulfill you. He’s the only one that can give you purpose. I feel like the Lord was calling me to let go of basketball truly just to serve Him more."Griffin averaged 7.5 points per game over his 92-game career but only made 20 appearances for the Hawks in 2023-2024.His points average significantly dropped with 11 fewer minutes played per game. The 21-year-old said he hoped his video would encourage others not to live in fear of dedicating their lives to God."Don't worry about the outside noise. Focus on your personal relationship with Jesus, and everything else will be added."Griffin is the son of NBA great Adrian Griffin, who played in the league for nine years. Like Blaze News? Furries and fake babies: The worst of TikTok

As TikTok grows in popularity, so does the eccentricity of its users. And what some of them post for the entire world to see is a little disturbing — to say the least. One TikTok user has been using the platform to document her travels with a realistic baby doll that she’s named “Peaches.” “This was the first day that I brought Peaches out and about,” the TikTok user said in her video. “This is our new model baby Peaches, which I’m obsessed with. So when we got there I wanted her to get some sun, and then I made her a bottle, and then we were getting ready to go into the ocean but the sun was still so, so hot. So I went ahead and gave her some sunblock.” The woman shows herself spraying sunblock on the fake baby, before bringing it into the ocean and plunging the doll underwater. “I could hear people next to me, they were laughing. Some people were pointing fingers at me, but you know what, I love silicone dolls. I’m not hurting anybody,” she continued, concluding the video by saying, “Don’t forget, even as an adult, it’s okay to play.” Allie Beth Stuckey of “Relatable” is horrified, calling it “something very dark.” “You’re trying to fill a void that could be filled, should be filled with a human child. And I would even say if you can’t have kids, or even if you had a miscarriage, which obviously is very tragic, you should be investing your time and energy into real kids who need love — whether you are adopting them or fostering them.” “It’s just so craven to me that our birth rate is declining and that the fake baby community is growing. There is something dark about that, and you can’t convince me otherwise,” she continues, adding, “I might even venture to say demonic.” But fake babies aren’t the only delusional phenomena to make waves on social media. Furries, people who dress up in animal costumes to go about their daily life, are also growing in numbers. “Part of it is feeling different and unique, like, 'You don’t really know me, I’m secretly a wolf, you think I’m just Ethan, but I’m secretly howling at the moon every night,'” Stuckey comments. “I think having an underground kind of identity and community that the rest of the world doesn’t really understand, that seems to be a motivation,” she adds. Monarchy is a new Kingdom style strategy game, and it’s out very soon

There's been a great crop of minimalist strategy games recently. One of this year's best entries to the genre, for example, is Thronefall, which boils city building and tower defense down to their essence. There are also similar approaches to find in everything from Dorfromantik and Bad North to Mini Metro. Now, another game created in this vein has been announced through Monarchy, an approachable side-scrolling strategy game that looks to have taken clear inspiration from the Kingdom series. Mind-bending horror game Mouthwashing gets off to flying start on Steam

I love things that are set in the cosmos, just give me a spaceship and I’m happy. That said, I don’t think I’d like to actually let slip the surly bonds of Earth and touch the face of god, as you have all the negatives of being in a submarine with the added threat of not being able to pop a hatch open should things go wrong. In Mouthwashing, a new psychological horror game that's making waves on Steam, things have gone very wrong indeed. Asus’ new X870E motherboard just broke an AMD gaming CPU speed record

With new X870 and X870E motherboards launching this week for AMD CPUs, there are plenty of dry specs to get through. Motherboard manufacturer Asus, however, has gone down a different path to show off the potential of its next-gen motherboards by breaking five different overclocking records, pushing an AMD Ryzen 9 9950X CPU to a staggering 7.55GHz clock speed. To put that into perspective, the Ryzen 9 9950X has a typical clock speed of 4.3GHz and a boost clock speed of 5.7GHz. It’s already the fastest AMD processor you can buy, and arguably one of the best gaming CPUs out there right now. With a 1.85GHz overclock applied using this brand-new Asus motherboard, this 9950X is stomping well ahead of its stock performance.
