Parts Of The U.S. Have Another Chance To See The Northern Lights! See If They’ll Be Illuminating Skies In Your Area

If you’re one of the millions who missed the gorgeous Northern Lights that graced skies as far south as Florida over the weekend, we might have some good news. The rare Category 5 geomagnetic storm that created the spectacle on Friday and Saturday is still raging today, and it will continue for a couple more days. According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the storm intensity will be strong enough to cause another round of lights for parts of the United States and most of Canada. “This is a prediction of the intensity and location of the aurora borealis tonight and tomorrow night over North America,” the organization wrote alongside a map. Far northern regions of the world will be able to see the spectacle tonight, and the parts of the U.S. will have a final chance tomorrow. Unfortunately, this show will not cover as much of the country as it did over the weekend, but those living in Alaska, Idaho, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, New Hampshire, New York, North Dakota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Vermont, and Washington will see the Northern Lights, weather permitting. If the “aurora is bright and if conditions are right,” locations as far as 600 miles away from those lucky states could also catch a glimpse. To help your chances of seeing the cosmic event, you can download a Northern Lights tracking app on your smartphone. Also, city lights may outshine the aurora, so be sure to drive out to a rural area for the best show. Also, for our more southern readers, if you didn’t get to catch a glimpse of the purple, pink, and green lights this past week, you may have more opportunities over the coming months. NOAA has predicted more intense geomagnetic storms throughout the remainder of the year. You can find the source of this story’s featured image here.
