Cayla George, an Australian basketball star, had a lot going on for her leading up to the World Cup in 2022. But amidst her athletic successes, she was also struggling. For some time, she and her husband, Kailou George, had been trying to have a baby. Unfortunately for the couple, it seemed that pregnancy wasn’t in the cards for them. Adoption remained an option, but thanks to the kindness of Cayla’s sister-in-law, they had another option to consider. Both Kailou and his sister, Nina, are Torres Strait Islanders.
