Self-Aware Hiker Has “No Idea” Why Her Excursions Take So Long
One woman has been noticing that every time she goes for a hike, it ends up taking her a surprisingly long time to reach the end of the trail. What’s been causing these mysterious delays? Well, a little soul-searching led this inadvertent lollygagger to the reason behind her conundrum. She revealed the answer in a hilariously relatable post online!
Known as @pepper.steps on social media, this hiker absolutely loves documenting her excursions along various nature trails. In fact, she’s realized that she might be spending more time taking pictures and videos than actually walking!
@pepper.steps “yea alltrails said 10 more minutes but it took me an hour!” meanwhile, every 5 paces i have to stop and take a pic of some moss or a nice looking tree… have you taken any cool pictures on the trail recently?! What’s your fave?? please tell me i’m not the only one who does this?! i literally have over ten thousand photos and videos on my phone currently (yikes) and i SWEAR, over half of them are different angles on a nice looking log, or a rock i thought looked funny. there’s this one trail i run often on that has a root sticking out of the ground that LITERALLY looks just like a little mouse scurrying into a little hidey hole. and the first couple of times I saw it it scared the crap out of me (lol), but eventually i knew the EXACT spot on the trail where the root was and so I was prepared with my phone to snap a quick picture of it while running without having to backtrack. #hiking #hike #hyoh #trails #happytrails #trailrunning #hiker #backpacking #backpacker #outdoors #nature #ecology #hikingtips #hiking101 #hiker101 #trees #camping #nature #wildlife #conservation #wildlifeprotection #photography #naturephotography #takeonlypictures #naturepics #outdoorsphotography #photography ♬ origineel geluid – .⋆୨୧⋆.
In her clip, Pepper poked fun at her tendency to take pictures of every cool thing she sees during a hike.
“I have no idea why my hikes always take so long,” she joked.
This woman was also curious to know if other hikers ran into the same problem. In her caption, she asked commenters to weigh in.
“Please tell me I’m not the only one who does this?!” Pepper wrote. “I literally have over ten thousand photos and videos on my phone currently (yikes) and I SWEAR, over half of them are different angles on a nice looking log, or a rock I thought looked funny.”

Apparently, plenty of people could relate to Pepper’s situation.
“Honestly me,” replied one user. “I’ll spend 20 minutes taking pictures of cool mushrooms trying to get the right angle.”
Another added, “My camera roll has nine million pictures of moss.”
It’s worth pointing out that there’s nothing wrong with snapping photos during a hike, even if it takes a long time. At the end of the day, hiking is supposed to be fun! As long as you’re not hurting anyone else, you should be able to enjoy this activity in whatever way you want.
