Kelly Bishop Details The Moment She Learned Her Late “Gilmore Girls” Co-Star Edward Herrmann Had Cancer

Sometimes, when we watch our favorite shows, it’s hard to separate what is real from fiction. These beloved characters become such an important part of our lives. We often believe they exist the same way off-screen as they appear on screen. Thankfully, for many actors and actresses, that truly is the case. They are a family in every sense of the word. And while that can bring incredible joy, it also means they share in each other’s grief. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Gilmore girls (@gilmoregirls) They May Not Really Be Married, But They Love Each Other Kelly Bishop and Edward Hermann starred together as Emily and Richard Gilmore on Gilmore Girls from 2000 to 2007. They seemed to be the perfect couple and shared an intense love for their daughter Lorelai and granddaughter Rory, played by Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel. During their time on set, Kelly and Edward become close, but he was a private man. Kelly’s new memoir, The Third Gilmore Girl, reveals the star’s heartache at learning Edward was sick with terminal brain cancer in 2014. “I hadn’t even known he was sick until one day a couple of weeks before he died,” she wrote. “I happened to be scanning Page Six of the New York Post… when I noticed a brief article about some trouble between Ed and his business manager. I was just skimming it until I came across the words, ‘Herrmann, 71, who is battling brain cancer…'” Kelly recalled wanting to call Edward’s wife, Star Roman, after learning the news but feeling uncomfortable because they didn’t know each other well. Instead, she contacted Lauren and Gilmore Girls creator Amy Sherman-Palladino, who were equally shocked. “We struggled to even figure out what to say beyond ‘Oh my God,’ and ‘Please don’t let this be true,'” she wrote. Thankfully for her, Star reached out to Emily and invited her to visit Edward before he passed away. In their final meeting, she whispered to him, “Lauren, Amy, and Alexis sent their love.” She then “kissed him on the forehead, left a lip print, and whispered, ‘Tell them that’s from me.'” This story’s featured image is by Astrid Stawiarz/Getty Images. 10 Best Rock Songs About Being Young

One of the most common sayings we hear when we’re young is, “Youth is wasted on the young.” But when you’re just 15 or 16 years old, having barely spent a blip of time on this planet, how could you possibly understand these big, life-altering questions? At that age, you haven’t lived long enough to see the full picture. You’re just beginning to grasp who you are and where you’re headed. So, in many ways, of course, you might squander some of your youthful days—it’s not easy to know better when you’re still figuring everything out. But that’s the beauty The post 10 Best Rock Songs About Being Young appeared first on ClassicRockHistory.com.

WATCH: Harris Chose Campaign Fundraisers Over Hurricane Survivors

On the latest episode of “The Tony Kinnett Cast,” we explain how the Biden-Harris administration was faced with a dilemma—whether they should put time into hurricane relief or Harris-Walz campaign rallies over the weekend, and then we watch in disappointment as Vice President Kamala Harris chose fundraisers over survivors of Hurricane Helene. In what could only be described as a modern iteration of “Catch-22,” the Biden-Harris administration has left itself either a prematurely ended tenure or a dangerous crash landing. Stop right there, reader! Head over to our YouTube page and subscribe! It’s the best way to follow “The Tony Kinnett Cast,” and it gets you access to full, exclusive interviews. Most importantly, it helps the show grow and drives liberal journalists to tears. The show’s producer, Daniel Elmore, joins us from North Carolina to cover the aftermath of the worst floods some of the Tar Heel State’s towns have ever seen, the heartache and fear of families desperate to find missing loved ones, and the outrage of millions over the millions of dollars sent abroad in foreign aid instead of domestic disaster relief and recovery.  The humiliation of the United States on the global stage intensifies as President Joe Biden is left out of the loop on crucial strikes by Israel against the terrorist organization and Iranian proxy Hezbollah, which now has numerous leadership openings, and there may not be enough terrorists left to apply for the positions. What does that mean for Pax Americana, and what on earth do we do about it? Finally, we look ahead to our five-hour coverage Tuesday night of the vice presidential debate between Republican Sen. JD Vance of Ohio and Democratic Gov. Tim Walz of Minnesota, with special guests, hard-hitting analysis galore, and the steady coverage you can’t get anywhere else. The battle for “Best of the Midwest” is upon us! Catch the live radio show and livestream weeknights at 7 p.m. EDT on The Daily Signal’s YouTube, X, or Facebook—and subscribe to the podcast so you never miss an episode or exclusive interview! Biden-Harris Justice Department Follows SPLC Script on Noncitizen Voting Cases

Biden-Harris Justice Department Follows SPLC Script on Noncitizen Voting Cases

The Biden-Harris Justice Department is suing Alabama for removing more than 3,000 noncitizens from voter rolls just weeks after a coalition of left-leaning groups—including the far-left Southern Poverty Law Center—filed a similar lawsuit.  Alabama is far from a battleground state, but the Justice Department’s move could have national consequences by setting a legal precedent for whether and how other states may remove those who aren’t U.S. citizens from voter registration lists.  Neither the organizations in the private lawsuit against Alabama nor the Justice Department replied to inquiries Monday from The Daily Signal on whether the two separate lawsuits were coordinated or whether communication occurred between the agency and the private organizations about them.  In March 2021, President Joe Biden signed an executive order directing every federal agency, including the Justice Department, to cooperate with private nonprofit organizations to increase voter participation and registration. The Justice Department has invoked presidential privilege to prevent the public from seeing its strategic plan for implementing Biden’s order.  Three of the top plaintiffs in the private lawsuit against Alabama—the SPLC, the Campaign Legal Center, and the Fair Elections Center—participated in a White House Zoom conference in July 2021 about how to implement Biden’s Executive Order 14019. The other two plaintiffs are the Alabama chapters of the NAACP and the League of Women Voters, whose national organizations were represented at the White House conference. In August, Alabama Secretary of State Wes Allen, a Republican, instructed election officials in all 67 counties to inactivate the state’s 3,251 registered voters identified as noncitizens by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.  The Justice Department now contends that the state’s removal of those names violates the 1993 National Voter Registration Act because it comes fewer than 90 days before Election Day, which is Nov. 5.  “The right to vote is one of the most sacred rights in our democracy,” Assistant Attorney General Kristen Clarke of the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division, said Friday in a public statement.  “As Election Day approaches, it is critical that Alabama redress voter confusion resulting from its list maintenance mailings sent in violation of federal law,” Clarke said. “Officials across the country should take heed of the National Voter Registration Act’s clear and unequivocal restrictions on systematic list maintenance efforts that fall within 90 days of an election.” Interestingly, the Biden-Harris Justice Department has at least acknowledged a problem with noncitizen voting in Alabama. Earlier this month, U.S. Attorney Prim F. Escalona of the Northern District of Alabama charged an illegal immigrant with unlawfully voting in multiple elections. The Alabama secretary of state’s office said Allen made repeated requests for assistance from the federal government since discovering that over 3,000 noncitizens were registered to vote. Lacking cooperation from the federal government, his office acted.  However, any flagged individual may notify election officials if he or she has become naturalized and then will be able to vote, according to a press release from Allen’s office.  “I was elected secretary of state by the people of Alabama, and it is my constitutional duty to ensure that only American citizens vote in our elections,” Allen said in a public statement.  Specifically regarding DOJ’s lawsuit against Alabama, Allen’s office said it doesn’t comment on pending litigation in which the secretary of state is a named defendant. As detailed in my book “The Myth of Voter Suppression,” the National Voting Registration Act of 1993 also requires states to maintain updated voter registration lists. Noncitizens and illegal immigrants who are registered to vote and voting have represented a longstanding problem.  The two lawsuits against Alabama come after Senate Democrats blocked the House-passed SAVE Act requiring individuals to show proof of U.S. citizenship when registering to vote.  Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, who sponsored the Senate version of the SAVE Act, criticized the Justice Department’s move in a post on the social media site X.  “Democrats insisted ‘noncitizens don’t vote.’ On that basis, they blocked the SAVE Act,” the Utah senator posted. “Now that thousands of noncitizen voter files are being discovered in state after state, Democrats are trying to stop those states from removing noncitizens from their voter files. Infuriating.” Democrats insisted “noncitizens don’t vote”On that basis, they blocked the SAVE ActNow that thousands of noncitizen voter files are being discovered in state after state, Democrats are trying to stop those states from removing noncitizens from their voter filesInfuriating https://t.co/iWLWNsOdhV— Mike Lee (@BasedMikeLee) September 28, 2024 The Justice Department announced the lawsuit Friday, just two weeks after six left-leaning organizations announced their lawsuit Sept. 13 on behalf of four individuals in Alabama. The litigants in that private lawsuit are the Southern Poverty Law Center, the Campaign Legal Center, the Fair Elections Center, the Alabama Coalition for Immigration Justice, the Alabama NAACP, and the League of Women Voters of Alabama.  The Campaign Legal Center responded to an inquiry from The Daily Signal to say a spokesperson wouldn’t be able to comment Monday. A staffer from the Alabama Coalition for Immigration Justice responded that the group’s executive director, Allison Hamilton, had a full schedule and wouldn’t be able to comment. The other litigants in the private lawsuit didn’t respond to inquiries from The Daily Signal by publication time.  The litigants have made public statements in press releases, however.  “Today, we are suing to end this discriminatory program that’s in clear violation of the NVRA—and to protect the rights of thousands of eligible voters that the state of Alabama is trying to silence,” Jess Unger, senior staff attorney for voting rights at the SPLC, said in a public statement referring to the National Voting Registration Act.  Paul Smith, senior vice president of the Campaign Legal Center, said: “In practice, voter purges like what we are seeing in Alabama target naturalized citizens and prevent qualified Americans from exercising their right to vote.” The post Biden-Harris Justice Department Follows SPLC Script on Noncitizen Voting Cases appeared first on The Daily Signal.

John Kerry, Hillary Clinton Are So Done With That Pesky First Amendment

Why is it we hear the loudest shrieks for democracy coming from those who most clearly want to remove all limits to their own power and lord it over their fellow citizens? In just the past few weeks, we’ve seen celebrities and even major political figures on the Left openly call for tyranny. They no longer bother to hide it. The same people who insinuate that former President Donald Trump and “MAGA Republicans” long for dictatorship and are “existential threats to democracy” are seemingly eager to tell anyone who will listen that the answer to our problems is stripping citizens of their God-given rights and telling them what to think. Democratic politicians with real access to power also have been cavalierly demanding the removal of roadblocks to one-party rule and are eagerly using the power of the state to punish their political opponents for wrongthink. Last Wednesday, former Secretary of State John Kerry said the quiet part out loud at a World Economic Forum panel discussion on green energy, where he fretted over the state of “democracies.” He lamented the fact that the United States has this icky thing called the First Amendment that protects the right of free speech, making it a lot harder for global elites to filter information they don’t like. “You know, there’s a lot of discussion now about how you curb those entities in order to guarantee that you’re going to have some accountability on facts, etc.,” Kerry said at the WEF, referring to social media platforms. But look, if people only go to one source, and the source they go to is sick, and, you know, has an agenda, and they’re putting out disinformation, our First Amendment stands as a major block to be able to just, you know, hammer it out of existence. Take a listen to this nonsense for yourself—if you can stomach it. "Our First Amendment stands as a major block to the ability to be able to hammer [disinformation] out of existence. What we need is to win…the right to govern by hopefully winning enough votes that you’re free to be able to implement change."No thanks.pic.twitter.com/SLGHOLVjCr— Colin Wright (@SwipeWright) September 29, 2024 I actually know plenty of “sick,” biased sources of disinformation with an agenda that can and should be “hammered out of existence”—our leviathan of federal, state, and local bureaucratic agencies that shuttered the country during the COVID-19 lockdowns. You know, actual democracy would take care of that. But that’s clearly not what Kerry is talking about. He certainly doesn’t want to limit in any way the power of unelected government agencies over your life. Just the opposite. Kerry fears that the decentralized nature of our evolving media landscape will mean that the institutions his side of the political spectrum have controlled for so long will no longer be able to control political narratives as they once did. And those institutions may come under direct democratic assault from angry, fed-up Americans sick of being lied to. In other words, he’s beginning to fear the people—as the Founding Fathers intended. How terrible for him. It’s not just Kerry who desperately wants to run roughshod over the Constitution. A few weeks ago, another former secretary of state, Hillary Rodham Clinton, suggested that people who amplify disinformation about Russia should be arrested. Oh, the irony. Where the Clintons and Kerrys of the world could, for a time, rely on institutions to suffocate any idea they deemed verboten, now average citizens can seek the truth without strict institutional filters. And they have reason to do so, given how many of those institutions in recent years have proved to be hopelessly ideological and untrustworthy. Instead of a mea culpa, the institutions and the people who control them want to double down on their power. They want to arbitrarily force people to accept what they say as truth and to stamp out any resistance to their power. It’s they who want dictatorship, but one with the soothing sound of a certain kind of consensus, uniparty liberalism that they feel comfortable with. And they are so confident in their iron grip over society that they are willing to go on TV and tell you that they plan to silence you and tear down constitutional government to get their way. Don’t you dare squawk about it. “Tone down the rhetoric,” they say. But these liberal Democrats are neither liberal, nor democratic. It’s they who are bringing “fascism” and dictatorship to America.
