An illegal immigrant who was released by border agents went on to allegedly kill his girlfriend in Maryland. Gerber Luis Sanchez-Centeno, 23, has been arrested and charged with murdering Dania Cruz-Mejia, 18, the Montgomery County Department of Police said in a press release. Cruz-Mejia was found unconscious after her family members went to her home to check on her after not hearing from her for some time. Around 4:20 p.m. on September 18, first responders went to the home and performed life-saving measures on Cruz-Mejia, but she was pronounced dead at the scene. After a brief investigation, Sanchez-Centeno was identified as a suspect in the murder and was arrested on September 20. He was charged with first-degree murder. Weeks before the murder, Sanchez-Centeno illegally entered the U.S. and was fitted with a GPS tag before he was released into the community, Newsweek reported. James Covington, spokesman for Baltimore’s Office of Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO), told Newsweek that “Gerber Luis Sanchez-Centeno is an unlawfully present 23-year-old Salvadoran national.” “U.S. Border Patrol apprehended Sanchez June 2 after he unlawfully entered the United States near Santa Teresa, New Mexico. Later that day, ERO El Paso placed Sanchez into the Alternatives to Detention program with a GPS monitor,” Covington continued. “ERO El Paso terminated Sanchez from [Alternatives to Detention] Aug. 8, as he absconded from the program.” “ERO Baltimore lodged an immigration detainer against Sanchez Sept 23, 2024 with the Montgomery County Detention Center,” he added. Cruz-Mejia, the victim, had arrived in the U.S. five months before her murder and was studying cosmetology and learning English, Newsweek reported. “I went into despair. I went into my principal’s office and I just broke down. It was just so painful,” her teacher, Vivian Salazar, told the outlet. “She was just so excited about learning English, when most kids don’t express themselves, they don’t speak. But she wasn’t afraid.” The victim’s sister, Maria, also told Newsweek that it “was the saddest day” when she found out Cruz-Mejia was murdered. “She was a happy girl. She was always very positive to any challenges, problems, that she endured,” Maria told the outlet. “When they told me, it was the saddest day. Dania was one of the people I most loved in my life.”

House Committee on Homeland Security Chairman Mark E. Green (R-TN) harshly reacted to reports that Vice President Kamala Harris planned a trip to the Southwest border of the United States on Friday, snapping that she was the “arsonist returning to the scene of the fire.” Harris was charged by President Joe Biden with responsibility for handling the border crisis: in March 2021. Rumors are swirling that ex-New York Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who resigned in disgrace three years ago, may run for mayor of New York City. Cuomo has long told insiders he wouldn’t run for the position because he didn’t want to run against current NYC mayor Eric Adams, POLITICO reported. The two share a similar base of moderate, black Democrat voters. But Adams was indicted this week, The Daily Wire reported, charged with bribery, fraud, and acting as a foreign agent. He faces up to 45 years in prison if convicted on all counts. That indictment may have changed the game for Cuomo, who resigned in 2021 following allegations of sexual misconduct by nearly a dozen female staffers. But with Adams’s legal troubles, some insiders are suggesting Cuomo may run for mayor. “I think he’s going to run,” Chris Coffey, a former adviser to ex-Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Andrew Yang’s 2021 mayoral campaign, told POLITICO. “He was probably going to run no matter what, and a weakened, or out-of-the-race Eric Adams is a better bet for him.” Cuomo also reached out to New York business and labor leaders last year to gauge interest in a potential mayoral run. But his spokesperson, Rich Azzopardi, says that’s not going to happen. “Governor Cuomo has spent a lifetime in public service fighting and delivering for the people of New York — that said, the speculation is premature as Governor Cuomo believes Mayor Adams is entitled to due process,” Azzopardi told The Daily Wire. But, POLITICO reported, Cuomo’s political team is trying to create an aura of inevitability, even after the ex-governor testified before Congress about his disastrous COVID policies, The Daily Wire reported. Shortly before he testified, the House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic released a report that found Cuomo “edited” a state report that minimized the deaths that occurred in New York nursing homes during the pandemic, The Daily Wire reported. “They [Cuomo and his then-staff] want to assert that that order is exactly the same as the federal CMS, which it is not,” Rep. He ultimately resigned after multiple female staffers, including former adviser Lindsey Boylan, accused him of sexual harassment. Boylan claimed in 2021 that Cuomo sexually harassed her “for years” and that “many saw it, and watched” and that she “could never anticipate what to expect: would I be grilled on my work (which was very good) or harassed about my looks.” “Not knowing what to expect what’s the most upsetting part aside from knowing that no one would do a damn thing even when they saw it. The Rochester City School District is facing calls for a federal investigation for allegedly engaging in racial discrimination with its hiring practices as part of its “equity policy” regime. Parents Defending Education (PDE) wrote a letter to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and the agency’s New York District Office calling for an investigation into the district. PDE’s letter alleges that the district engaged in racial discrimination in its hiring process. “Rochester City School District appears to be intentionally discriminating against its employees because of their race by making race a barrier to opportunity,” PDE wrote, pointing to specific “anti-racist” policies that encourage increased hiring of non-white applicants. “Rochester City School District cannot discriminate on the basis of race for employment decisions. We ask that your office promptly investigate the allegations in this complaint, act swiftly to remedy unlawful policies and practices, and order appropriate relief.” PDE highlighted one document the district created for its “Racial Equity Advocacy Leadership Team,” which outlines specific hiring goals that appear to disadvantage white people on the basis of their race. The district explains that it seeks to “recruit and retain significantly greater numbers of qualified, appropriately credentialed, underrepresented race and class-conscious staff of color: African American, Hispanic, Asian, and Native American.” The district also explains that it hopes to achieve a “10 percent year-over-year improvement in the number of Staff of color hired.” PDE also honed in on a presentation from the school district called “Staff Diversity and Staffing Update: Building a workforce our students need,” which the organization alleges is evidence of racial discrimination. The documents reveal that the Rochester City School District kept demographic data of its workforce and new hires, and made a plan to create a hiring pipeline out of historically black colleges and universities. “Several systemic barriers exist that prevent us from recruiting, retaining, and developing a high quality and diverse workforce,” the district documents obtained by PDE state. “Our strategy includes several key programmatic work streams to attract, retain, and develop the right talent.” “Specifically targeting HBCUs and community networks for hiring staff to fill quotas is appalling, but that is exactly what’s happening in Rochester City School District,” PDE Vice President Caroline Moore told The Daily Wire. “Under the guise of seeking ‘mission-driven’ educators, the district is willfully casting teachers aside who are qualified and replacing them with teachers who fit the bill of political race quotas, no matter their credentials.” “The mission of a public school is to educate students, not foster an environment where students and teachers are pit against one another because of race and politics,” Moore asserted.  The Rochester City School District did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Harvard University, which referred 68 students for discipline for conduct they exhibited as members of an anti-Israel encampment, has failed to suspend even one of the students and left most of them in good standing, according to a House Committee on Education and the Workforce report. “Harvard has failed to impose meaningful discipline on antisemitic students who engaged in conduct in violation of University rules,” the committee stated. Fifty-two of the 68 student encampment participants referred for discipline are in good standing, the report stated, with 15 on probation and one on leave. Roughly two weeks ago, The Dean of Students Office at Harvard restored the Harvard Undergraduate Palestine Solidarity Committee’s full privileges after the group had been suspended for five months for violating Harvard’s protest guidelines. “As a recognized student group, the PSC will be able to access Harvard mailing lists, reserve certain rooms and spaces across the University, and apply for funding through the Harvard Undergraduate Association,” The Harvard Crimson reported. One student who raised a Palestinian flag over University Hall “was initially informed he would receive a three-semester suspension. Thereafter, however, the consequential three-semester suspension was downgraded to mere probation until December 20, 2024,” the committee report noted. “Four other encampment participants were first required to withdraw for two terms but will now be off probation in less than a month, according to the committee,” The Washington Free Beacon reported, adding, “Though the school referred 12 students for discipline over anti-Semitic incidents during that period, none of them ‘received any formal discipline and all remain in good standing.’” Am I Racist? Is In Theaters NOW — Get Your Tickets Here! “As these examples demonstrate, Harvard investigated and documented student violations of its policies, some of which were deemed to warrant semesters-long suspensions, but ultimately failed to enforce its own rules and impose meaningful discipline,” the committee stated. “Imposing such discipline would have been consistent with the Harvard Corporation’s pronouncement that ‘calls for violence’ and academic disruptions would ‘not be tolerated.’  The records, however, reveal that Harvard failed to fulfill this commitment and has permitted students to engage in such conduct with no real consequences.” “By doing so, the House Committee on Education and the Workforce believes Harvard is in violation of Title VI,” the committee concluded. Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-NC), chairwoman of the committee, declared, “Harvard failed, end of story. The only thing administrators accomplished is appeasing radical students who have almost certainly returned to campus emboldened and ready to repeat the spring semester’s chaos. Harvard must change course immediately.”
