President Joe Biden defended his decision to withdraw from Afghanistan in his final speech to the United Nations as president. Biden addressed the United Nations for his final time as president on Tuesday as his administration has seen multiple international crises erupt. The president touted his record on international relations, specifically pointing to his decision to pull U.S. forces out of Afghanistan. “When I came to office as president, Afghanistan had replaced Vietnam as America’s longest war,” Biden said, according to National Review. “I was determined to end it, and I did. It was a hard decision but the right decision.” “It was a hard decision but the right decision,” he continued. U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan effectively turned the country over to the Taliban, who swept behind withdrawing U.S. forces to take the country over almost immediately. The withdrawal also saw the deaths of 13 U.S. service members who were killed in a terror attack on the Hamid Karzai International Airport. “It was a decision accompanied by tragedy,” Biden said. “13 brave Americans lost their lives along with hundreds of Afghans in a suicide bomb. I think about those lost lives every day.” Biden faced backlash in 2021 when he was photographed looking at his watch during the Dignified Transfer ceremony for the soldiers killed in the attack on Kabul’s airport. Biden appeared to check the time while the bodies of the 13 soldiers killed were returned to the United States. Along with the 13 soldiers killed, dozens of Afghans were killed in the attack carried out by an ISIS-K terrorist. The attacker had been released from the Parwan prison at Bagram air base days before the attack after U.S. troops evacuated the base. Taliban militants took it over in the absence of American troops. The U.S. left billions of dollars-worth of equipment behind in Afghanistan. Some of that equipment, almost entirely left to the Taliban, has begun to appear in other conflicts. The president in his UN speech called for a ceasefire in Israel’s war against Hamas in Gaza and in the growing conflict against Hezbollah in Lebanon. “Full-scale war is not in anyone’s interest,” Biden said, according to Politico. “Diplomatic solution is still possible. It’s the only path.” On the war between Russia and Ukraine, Biden reasserted his support for Ukraine. “The good news is that Putin’s war has failed in its core aim. But we can not let up,” Biden said. “The world has another choice to make: Will we sustain or support? Or walk away and let a nation be destroyed. We can not grow weary. We can not look away.”

When Alaska Democrat Mary Peltola ran for the Congress seat in 2022, she danced around addressing whether trans-identifying men should be allowed in women’s sports. Fairness is important, she indicated, but she needed to learn more. “I need to better acquaint myself with this issue, which I believe is more complicated than some make it out to be,” Peltola told the Anchorage Daily News in August 2022. “My starting point is that sports should be fair for all students, and we must protect the rights of all students – especially those that are already subject to significant discrimination. I look forward to learning more, and focusing on the many other pressing challenges the U.S. Congress is facing.” Fast forward about a year to April 2023, when Peltola voted against the “Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act of 2023” — legislation prohibiting school athletic programs from allowing boys who identify as girls to play in girls’ sports. The bill, which passed the House of Republicans, would have made it a violation of Title IX for federally-funded education programs to allow men in women’s athletic programs. When Republican South Carolina Rep. Nancy Mace put forward an amendment to that same legislation, which would have required a study on the effect that men participating in women’s sports has on women, Peltola voted against it. She also co-sponsored the far-left “Equality Act,” legislation that would amend the 1964 Civil Rights Act to prevent “discrimination on the basis of sex, gender identity, and sexual orientation,” meaning that individuals who identify as another gender could not be denied access to the locker room of their choice. (Photo by Alex Wong/Getty Images) The Equality Act would specifically require public women’s facilities, such as women’s bathrooms, locker rooms, and shelters, to admit men who identify as transgender women. Critics have pointed out that women who are trying to escape violent men and seek refuge in shelters would then be forced to share living spaces with men who identify as women. As “Must Read Alaska” reported at the time, the bill would apply to institutions like Anchorage’s “Downtown Hope Center,” a faith-based cold-weather shelter where women can seek refuge during the night. Peltola’s positions may put her out of step with her home state. The Alaska Board of Education voted in August 2023 to block boys who identify as girls from playing on girls’ athletic teams. And the Alaska House of Representatives passed a law in May 2024 banning boys from playing in girls’ sports. The bill then went to the State Senate, where it is expected to die, but the House Republicans who voted for the bill told Alaska Public Media that they were prioritizing the issue at the request of their constituents. “Alaskans are outraged by Rep. Mary Peltola’s misguided championing of the radical transgender agenda,” Cindy Glassmaker, an Alaskan mother of three daughters who play or played high school sports, told The Daily Wire. “Peltola’s stance is a slap in the face to every female athlete,” Glassmaker added. “We’re not buying this woke nonsense that cancels women’s sports and hands women’s hard-earned rights to biological men.” Great news!!! Since 2022, Peltola has received about $6,000 from the Human Rights Campaign, which pushes transgender sex change hormones, surgery, and puberty blockers for children, and $5,500 from Planned Parenthood Action Fund, the action arm of Planned Parenthood, which boasts of being the “second largest provider” of transgender hormones like estrogen and testosterone. Her opponent, Nick Begich, told The Daily Wire that Peltola is endangering the rights of women in Alaska. “Mary Peltola’s reckless push to allow biological males to compete against girls isn’t just unfair— it’s a direct assault on women’s athletics,” Begich said. “Alaska can’t allow Peltola’s radical woke ideology to erase opportunities for our daughters, sisters, and mothers. It was our late Senator Ted Stevens who fought for Title IX and Mary Peltola should not be working to erase such an important part of his legacy.” Peltola finished first in the August primary, coming in at 50.38% with 48,418 votes. Begich followed her at 26.98% with 25,930 votes, and Nancy Dahlstrom came next with 20.01% and 19,234 votes. But NRCC polling released Monday found Begich “surging into the lead” against Peltola. Begich is now leading Peltola 44% to 40% on the first round ballot, with 10% undecided. That polling found that the more voters learn about Peltola, the less they like her. “Among those who have seen, read, or heard something recently about Peltola, a plurality of voters are left with a more unfavorable impression of Peltola.” “Mary Peltola is taking on water despite her initial spending advantage, driven in large part by Republican ads highlighting her support for the Biden agenda and votes against Alaska’s veterans and those actively serving in uniform,” says a memo from American Viewpoint on the key findings of the Alaska survey. “If this trend continues, Nick Begich will be the next Member of Congress from Alaska.”

As Democrats worked to blame former President Donald Trump and Senator J.D. Vance for inciting hate crimes against Haitians, the Biden-Harris Department of Justice searched high and low for any evidence to support their accusations, emails obtained by The Daily Wire show. On September 13, Jomaica Sherman, a Lead Conciliation Specialist at the DOJ’s Community Relations Service (CRS), wrote to Rachel Roberts-Pickett, an official with Catholic Charities Dallas, that “my colleagues and I were tasked with researching information regarding the Haitian Community.” “Are you aware of any reports of hate crimes, hate incidents, or community conflicts surrounding the Haitian Community?” Sherman asked. Roberts-Pickett forwarded Sherman’s emails to others to try to uncover examples of anti-Haitian incidents. Catholic Charities is paid by the federal government to resettle migrants. During that time period, Vice President Kamala Harris was campaigning on the claim that Trump and Vance had inspired anti-Haitian hate crimes. On September 17, she blamed Trump and Vance for causing bomb threats in Springfield, Ohio — which has seen a massive influx of Haitians — saying they caused schoolchildren to have “to be evacuated,” and leaving “a whole community put in fear.” Ohio law enforcement investigations concluded that the bomb threats were hoaxes perpetrated by actors overseas, potentially in an effort to meddle in the presidential election. Law enforcement’s findings cast doubt on the idea that Republicans bore any blame. The Daily Wire asked the Justice Department CRS team who had requested it to investigate anti-Haitian incidents — whether a Justice Department official or the White House — and whether it had managed to find any. The office refused to answer either question. “CRS has been working in Springfield over the past year to resolve conflicts and disputes related to community tensions,” a spokeswoman said. “Due to our statutory confidentiality mandate, we cannot confirm or discuss CRS’s involvement with specific groups.” The timing of the Justice Department email suggests that the Biden-Harris administration could have been searching for ammunition that Harris could use in the campaign. The fact that Harris and her campaign have not highlighted any such incident suggests that the office did not uncover any. An article in the Haitian Times quoted Haitians in Ohio saying, “We’re all victims …” and “They’re attacking us in every way,” but the article did not point to any specific incidents. Roberts-Pickett, the Catholic Charities official, also did not respond to a Daily Wire inquiry asking what evidence of hate crimes against Haitians, if any, she managed to gather. The Justice Department’s Community Relations Service previously listed the mainstream conservative parents’ group Moms for Liberty as a domestic terrorist group alongside the KKK and the Proud Boys.  It also tried to intervene when a Virginia school board moved to implement a transgender policy. The most prominent incident of purported physical abuse of Haitians — the claim that Border Patrol agents were whipping them — also turned out to be a hoax. Harris was one of several Democrats who pushed that hoax, comparing the alleged whippings to slavery.
