Who Will Represent Humanity in Interstellar Space?

In a recent Paradigm podcast interview, Matt Geleta asked me who should represent Earth in interstellar space? He reckoned that humans cannot survive the long trip and so humanity will likely use an avatar with artificial intelligence (AI) as its flagship towards a possible encounter with aliens in interstellar space. In that case, which humans should the AI system replicate as a representation of humanity? I replied that humanity’s ambassador should contain the most complex neural network system that can be launched to space, potentially better than any human who ever lived on Earth. There were 117 billion samples of human intelligence that inhabited Earth over the past ten million years. Assuming a normal (Gaussian) probability distribution of intelligence quotient (IQ), the most intelligent biological brain which ever existed is ~7 standard deviations away from the mean. If we construct an AI system that is more than 7 times better than the average human brain, it would perform better than any human who ever lived. Based on Moore’s Law, if the number of parameters in our most advanced AI systems will grow exponentially with a doubling time of 1–2 years, then within 2 decades artificial neural networks will be more complex than biological neural networks. This will allow humanity to launch an AI system more impressive than any human brain that ever existed on Earth by the middle of this century. I will be proud of such a system more than a replica of a human, for the same reason that I am proud of my daughters’ accomplishments even if I cannot replicate them. However, the space launch of an advanced AI system may take much longer than the time required to produce it on Earth. The root of the hurdle is in the required power supply. Currently, the training of Large Language Models (LLM) consumes gigawatts of electric power. Increasing the number of parameters in them or neuromorphic AI systems by a factor of ten thousand so as to exceed human performance, would require tens of terrawatts given their current architecture. This represents ten times the global electric power consumption on Earth. Providing this much power to a spacecraft is challenging. For comparison, the human brain runs on merely 20 watts. It is remarkable how difficult it is for our technologies to reproduce what nature does so effectively thanks to billions of years of evolution. Indeed, it is difficult to maintain human hubris in light of our limited scientific accomplishments. Consider nuclear fusion as another example. The inertial-confinement-fusion system at the National Ignition Facility of the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. (Image credit: A. O Hurricane, LLNL) Experimentalists at the National Ignition Facility (NIF) of the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), achieved breakeven in the nuclear ignition of 0.2 milligrams of deuterium-tritium fuel over ten nanoseconds whereas the sun achieves hydrogen fusion for billions of years in a fuel reservoir that is 37 orders of magnitude larger in mass. These two shortcomings of our technologies are related. Once we develop a concept for a compact fusion reactor, it could power our most advanced AI system in space. Given that most stars in the Milky-Way galaxy formed billions of years before the Sun, it is possible that aliens resolved both technological challenges long ago. In case they already sent their ambassadors out of their home exoplanets to interstellar space, these alien avatars might be smarter than any of the senders. In that case, it would be fun to watch how our ambassador interacts with theirs. After encountering each other, the two ambassadors might choose to partner and ghost their senders, like teenagers falling in love and avoiding their parents. If that happens, we will keep wondering about their whereabouts, and have no other choice but to connect directly with the aliens instead of delegating this task to our AI avatars. After all, there is nothing more rewarding than a dialogue between a biological brain on Earth and an extraterrestrial brain on an exoplanet. Victims' families want Andrew Cuomo to face justice over COVID nursing home deaths following bombshell report

The families of victims who died from COVID while residing in New York nursing homes are urging the United States Department of Justice to open an investigation into former Governor Andrew Cuomo. The New York Post reported that the loved ones are pushing for charges against Cuomo after recently surfaced emails and congressional documents suggested that the disgraced governor personally altered a report that downplayed the state's nursing home deaths.'He must be held accountable.'In a letter to the DOJ, Peter Arbeeny, Vivian Zayas, and Janice Dean argued that Cuomo lied to members of Congress when he claimed during two separate hearings that he did not recall seeing the 2020 New York State Department Health report, let alone reviewing or editing it, before its release."We call on the Department of Justice to launch a full and fair investigation into Andrew Cuomo's statements to Congress, his coordination with other witnesses, and his role in covering up the nursing home death toll," the letter to the DOJ read."If it is found that he knowingly misled Congress and the American people or interfered with the congressional inquiry, he must be held accountable under the law," it continued. "The families who lost loved ones deserve the truth, and the public deserves to know that no one is above the law, especially those entrusted with public office."Emails recently released by the New York Times revealed that Cuomo may have been more involved with the report than he told lawmakers. A June 23, 2020, email from Cuomo's then-assistant, Farah Kennedy, suggested that the then-governor personally made edits to the report. The email stated, "Governor's edits are attached for your review.""The smaller text in the beginning is from your original document. He replaced your paragraph on page 3 beginning with 'But, like in all fifty states, there were Covid-positive cases,'" the email added."The larger text," Kennedy wrote, "is what he added."Cuomo's alleged suggested edits included adding language that emphasized how "community spread among employees or possibly visitation by family and friends were relevant factors" in the nursing home deaths. The Times also released congressional documents that revealed that the report had apparently been sent to his home, at his aide's request, before it was released. The news outlet found that some of Cuomo's requested edits were included in the final report, which understated the nursing home deaths.Vivian Zayas, co-founder of Voice for Seniors, told the Post, "He said he had nothing to do with the report.""If he lied to Congress, he committed a crime. He should definitely be investigated," Zayas added. "We're going to see this through to the end. Cuomo needs to be held accountable."Rich Azzopardi, a Cuomo spokesperson, told the Post on Sunday, "We are long past the point of absurd.""We sympathize with every one of the 1 million-plus families who lost loved ones, but the continued attempts to purposefully distort and politically weaponize this pandemic are both transparent and sad," he told the Post.Following the Times' report, Azzopardi stated, "Governor Cuomo was fully cooperative with the committee over two separate days, relayed everything he remembered about events that happened four years ago in the midst of a once-in-a-century pandemic, and nothing this MAGA committee has uncovered undermines that New York followed [then-President Donald] Trump's CDC nursing home policies or the DOH report's conclusion that COVID was spread in nursing homes by asymptomatic staff."Some Democratic politicians have also pushed for Cuomo to be held accountable.Assemblyman Ron Kim (D-Queens) recently stated, "I've stood with the families of nursing homes and will continue to stand with them to hold the former governor accountable.""Andrew Cuomo has consistently lied and gaslit the public in pursuit of his book deal and political ambitions," Kim continued. "Now, we must hold him accountable and seize this opportunity to fix our broken long-term care system."City Councilman Lincoln Restler (D) accused Cuomo of providing "misleading and inaccurate" testimony."Time and again, he reveals himself to be someone New Yorkers cannot trust and who does not belong in public office," Restler said.Like Blaze News? 'The right choice': Michigan city's popular Democratic Muslim mayor endorses Trump

The Democratic mayor of the only American city entirely governed by Muslims has endorsed President Donald Trump, signaling possible trouble for Kamala Harris and highlighting the fragility of leftists' supposed intersectional coalition. Amer Ghalib, the mayor of Hamtramck in the swing state of Michigan, announced Sunday that he is backing the Republican candidate, stating, "I know [Trump] is a man of principles." "Though it's looking good, he may or may not win the election and be the 47th president of the United States," wrote Ghalib, "but I believe he is the right choice for this critical time. I'll not regret my decision no matter what the outcome would be, and I'm ready to face the consequences." "Let the Caravan begin its journey. This is just the starting point," added Ghalib. Days earlier, Ghalib — one of the many religious Americans who have taken issue in recent years with LGBT activists' cultural imperialism — briefly met with Trump in Flint, indicating on Facebook, "It's a new era." Ghalib, who last year defended banning the display of LGBT flags on public buildings, told the Detroit Free Press, "It was a productive meeting," and indicated Trump had asked for his endorsement. The Trump campaign appears keen to take advantage of the current administration's alienation of Muslim voters and Arab Americans over its Middle East policies and promotion of LGBT propaganda. FiveThirtyEight's polling average presently shows Harris leading Trump in Michigan 48.6% to 45.9% — a state Biden allegedly won by 155,000 votes in 2020. According to NPR, there are roughly 240,000 Muslims in Michigan. According to the Hamtramck Review, 61% of Hamtramck residents voted "uncommitted" in the Democratic primary election. Biden ultimately won with 32% of the vote. Some Muslim Americans who previously supported Democrats may throw their weight behind Trump, as Ghalib indicated he will. Others may instead support the Green Party's Jill Stein. Reuters noted that an August poll by the radical group Council on American-Islamic Relations indicated that 40% of Muslim respondents in Michigan signaled support for Stein, 18% for Trump, and 12% for Harris. The Hamtramck mayor, a native of Yemen who has protested the treatment of Palestinians in Gaza and demanded divestment from Israel, said that Trump "knew a lot about me prior to the meeting. We talked about various topics including the debates, the polls updates, the statistics of votes in Michigan and Wayne county, the Arab American concerns and the Yemeni Americans in particular." Trump has made no secret of his contempt for Hamas, his opposition to radical Islam, and his affinity for Israel — having worked in office to normalize relations between Israel and Arab states as well as formally recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. However, his criticism of American interventionism and foreign entanglements apparently appeals to some disaffected Democrats. Trump's criticism of Biden's missile strikes on Yemen earlier this year may, for instance, have resonated with Ghalib and other former Democrats in the Yemeni community. 'A lot of people are shifting to the right.' In January, Biden ordered military strikes against Houthi militants in Yemen in response to their repeated targeting of Israel-linked ships transiting the Bab al-Mandeb strait. This was something of an about-face granted the Biden-Harris administration previously dropped the Houthis from the list of foreign terrorist organizations. Trump wrote on Truth Social at the time of the strikes: So, let me get this straight. We’re dropping bombs all over the Middle East, AGAIN (where I defeated ISIS!), and our Secretary of Defence, who just went missing for five days, is running the war from his laptop in a hospital room. Remember, this is the same gang that 'surrendered' in Afghanistan, where no one was held accountable or FIRED. It was the most embarrassing 'moment' in the history of the United States. Now we have wars in Ukraine, Israel, and Yemen, but no 'war' on our Southern Border. Oh, that makes a lot of sense. Crooked Joe Biden is the worst President in the history of the United States! "A lot of people are shifting to the right," Hassan Aoun — a Republican activist in Dearborn, Michigan, another Detroit-area city with a significant Muslim population — told the Free Press, adding that it is understood Trump will not support new wars. Ghalib also appears to be one of many Muslims out of line with the Democratic Party's thinking on social issues, especially when it comes to the party's support for the mutilation and sterilization of children and its promotion of LGBT pornography in schools. Last year, Ghalib reportedly hosted Trump's former national security adviser, Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, and discussed gender ideology, illegal immigration, critical race theory, and other social issues. Bernadette Smith, ethnic vice chair of the Michigan GOP, called the meeting "historic." "We must focus on those things that unite us and rise above those things that divide us," said Smith. "I do believe this is a history maker today. And we're going to give our God all the glory and honor right for this meeting tonight. ... We want to continue to build bridges. ... We don't want to see our children mutilated." Like Blaze News? Bypass the censors, sign up for our newsletters, and get stories like this direct to your inbox. Sign up here!

‘I’m voting for Trump’: Dave Portnoy RIPS Kamala Harris and the Democratic Party

Dave Portnoy, the man famous for Barstool Sports, hails from a Democratic family. However, that’s not stopping him from supporting former President Donald Trump. “I think that what the Democrats have done is far worse than really anything Trump has done — like in terms of not allowing a primary. To me, that’s crazy,” Portnoy said in a recent stream. “I’m somebody who if I liked a candidate on the Democratic side, I could have potentially voted for that person.” Regarding Biden’s possible mental decline, Portnoy notes that “Kamala has known that, and she just lied about it forever.” “She never got a vote. Like, I don’t know, you can say whatever you want about Trump, he won the Republican nomination by a landslide. Fair and square. And Kamala did not,” he explains. But that’s not his only problem with Kamala. “Some of her past statements for me are just nutty, and I don’t like what’s happened in a lot of Democratic states,” he says. “I hope if she’s elected, like California and New York, those don’t become what happens in the United States.” In another appearance on Fox Business, Portnoy confirmed that he’s “voting for Trump.” “I wouldn’t have voted for him in the Republican primaries, but I’m voting for him now,” Portnoy explained. Dave Rubin of “The Rubin Report” is happy to hear it. “It all just seems so sleazy, and it’s bringing together a heck of a new coalition of people,” he says. Mob of 50 teens on bicycles easily ransacks 7-Eleven in LA and escapes cops — the latest episode in apparent criminal trend

A mob of about 50 juveniles on bicycles easily ransacked and robbed a 7-Eleven in Los Angeles late last week and escaped police. It was the latest episode in an apparent criminal trend in the area.Los Angeles police confirmed to KTLA-TV that about 50 kids just before 7:30 p.m. Friday biked to the convenience store at the 8500 block of West Olympic Boulevard near Beverley Hills, stole items, and fled the scene on their bicycles before police arrived. In August, a bike-riding mob of about 20 pulled off three smash-and-grab robberies in 20 minutes at Hollywood 7-Elevens within a two-mile radius of each other. You can view a KTLA video report here about Friday's incident, which includes cellphone video of the robbery. The clip shows teens — mostly wearing hoodies and dark clothing — jumping off their bicycles in the 7-Eleven parking lot, mobbing their way into the store, and "stealing whatever they could get their hands on, including food and lottery tickets, stuffing their shirts and sweatshirts and pockets with the merchandise," according to the station's reporter. The deed was done in a matter of minutes, KTLA's video report said, adding that an Instagram account Street People of Beverly Hills also posted videos showing "some of the juveniles covering their faces with hoods and masks as they run in and out of the store, and others are seen laughing as they run back to their bikes with stolen goods."KTLA said it isn't known how much merchandise was stolen or how much damage may have been caused.According to KTTV-TV, Friday's caper "is the latest in what seems to be a trend."In August, a bike-riding mob of about 20 pulled off three smash-and-grab robberies in 20 minutes at Hollywood 7-Elevens within a two-mile radius of each other. Ironically, the crimes occurred on the same day Democrat California Gov. Gavin Newsom signed bills into law that were enacted to combat such crimes, KNBC-TV reported. The station also rolled surveillance video of a similar smash-and-grab by a mob of teenagers at another area 7-Eleven the previous week. What's more, a mob of about 30 teenagers on bicycles were caught on video brutally beating up and robbing a lone man in downtown Los Angeles in early August. The victim suffered a broken leg — which will require surgery — as well as deep cuts all over his body after getting kicked and punched while on the ground.Like Blaze News?
