Another Month, Another Trump Assassination Attempt

This week, a would-be assassin aimed a rifle at Donald Trump through the fence at the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida. A Secret Service agent saw the man and shot at him; he was later arrested. The alleged shooter has a long record of clear-cut, left-wing hatred: He has opined that Trump ought to be killed by Iran, he has donated only to Democrats since 2019, and his truck sports a Biden/Harris bumper sticker. This makes the second assassination attempt on Trump in two months. Trump has now been subjected to as many near-shootings during that period as Kamala Harris has solo interviews. Why? The answer is obvious: America is a large country, with a large number of unstable people. Overheated rhetoric generally appeals to the unhinged; the unhinged may take seriously that rhetoric and attempt violence as a consequence. That doesn’t mean that those who spout such rhetoric are criminally responsible for the actions of the violent. It does mean that when the temperature is raised on the political stove, it becomes more predictable for the pot to boil over. We have now been subjected to a full decade of talk about how Donald Trump is a full-scale threat to the American republic. President Joe Biden has given speeches labeling Trump a danger to the soul of democracy. Harris, his vice president, has said that the very fabric of our country is at stake. Trump has been compared to Adolf Hitler more often than any public figure of our lifetime. Is it an enormous shock that someone with mental issues might think that taking a shot at Trump would be justified—heroic, even? It’s certainly true that overheated rhetoric exists on all sides of the political aisle these days. In understanding just why Trump has been subjected to two separate assassination attempts in eight weeks, it isn’t enough just to blame violent rhetoric, though. Opponents of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris generally disdain them; they understand that neither Biden nor Harris are historic figures, indispensable to the movements they supposedly lead. In fact, there is a baseline understanding that the Democratic Party could easily switch Biden or Harris for a dozen others and that their preferred issue set would maintain apace. The same is not true for Trump. The media and Democratic Party have determined that Trump is a singularly indispensable figure—a sort of bizarre cult leader, who has mesmerized millions into submission. They believe, in fact, that absent Trump, the Americans who vote for him would revert to becoming good little Democrats—reasonable people. That lie springs from a deeper lie: the lie that human beings are inherently good (by which they mean liberal) and that they think differently only if they are bamboozled by a strongman. Dispense with the strongman, and all will be well. The problem here is larger than hatred for Trump. It is a perverse view that those who dissent from Democratic Party politics are themselves zombies in thrall to a madman, rather than fellow Americans who disagree on key issues for good reasons of their own. And so the assassination attempts will likely continue. Trump has dodged a bullet once and avoided a shooting a second time. Americans ought never be asked to experience a third attempt. If, God forbid, something does happen to Trump, the results for the country will be catastrophic. COPYRIGHT 2024 CREATORS.COM We publish a variety of perspectives. Study Reveals Dogs Remember Toy Names Even After Years Of Not Seeing Them

Remember that worn-out stuffed toy you threw away a few years ago? No? Well, chances are, your dog may still remember them. A new study found that our furry friends have great memory and can actually remember the names of their toys for longer than we might think. In the study, published in journal Biology Letters, the team of researchers, Shany Dror, Ádám Miklósi and Claudia Fugazza, wanted to learn more about dogs and long-term memory since little is known about it. The researchers wanted to know if dogs can retain their associations of objects due to repeated use, or if they’re like us, humans, and are able to store associations in long-term memory. OksanaArtyuhova / Shutterstock.com Results from the study found that some of the smartest of dogs, referred to as gifted word learner (GWL) dogs in the study, can retain object names, even if they haven’t seen the same object for two years. Five GWL dogs (two females, and three males) participated in the study. And the study’s experiment started in December 2020 where the dogs were taught the names of 12 toys in 1 week. The researchers let the dogs, along with their owners, play with the toys for a few months before storing the toys away for two years. Two years later, the researchers brought the dogs out individually, showed them the toys, along with other objects familiar with the dogs, in the room. They then asked the dogs to retrieve the test toys by calling out the toy’s name. After the test, the researchers found that the dogs were accurate in retrieving the toy specified 44% of the time, while some even had a 60% accuracy rate. Tatyana Vyc / Shutterstock.com Dr Claudia Fugazza tells Country Living Magazine, “We know that dogs can remember events for at least 24 hours and odors for up to one year but this is the first study showing that some talented dogs can remember words for at least two years.” “The findings of our current study cannot be generalised to other dogs because we only tested gifted word learners (GWL) dogs, individuals that show a special talent for acquiring object words.” And while the research was only done on smart dogs, it’s still shows that the ability to store associations in long-term memory is not uniquely human. Furthermore, this discovery can further help scientists learn how other species that aren’t human retain their memories in the long term. “GWL dogs provide a unique opportunity to examine whether such correlations may also exist in a species that does not possess language,” the researchers concluded.

No points for guessing what color it is, but the cause is not shared with other substances.

'Weapon of mass death': Explosive details about criminal history of Trump's second suspected would-be assassin

Alleged would-be assassin Ryan Wesley Routh was already under indictment for possessing an explosive device when he fled from police during a traffic stop and barricaded himself inside his roofing company in December 2002, court records show.Despite the seriousness of both offenses and Routh’s long criminal record in North Carolina, he didn’t serve any jail time as a result.'He was rather notorious among my people.'“Guilford County and greater Greensboro are historically very liberal,” Republican B.J. Barnes, who served as Guilford County sheriff for 24 years, told Blaze News. “Our courts here would rather plea out everyone to lesser charges than do the work of convicting real criminals.”Routh, who faces federal and possible state charges for the Sept. 15 attempted assassination of former President Donald J. Trump, was indicted in October 2002 for possessing what court records said was a “weapon of mass death and destruction, a binary explosive device with a detonation cord and a blasting cap.”Routh was first arrested on the explosives charge on April 23, 2002. He was released from custody on a $10,000 bond on April 30. At the time of that arrest, Routh was already on pretrial release in another case, court records said. While out on bond for the explosives indictment, Routh was arrested Dec. 15, 2002, after he fled police during a traffic stop. He holed up at his roofing company and kept police at bay for three hours, local media reported at the time.Retired Greensboro Police Sgt. Tracy Fulk told WPTV television in West Palm Beach that she pulled Routh over because she knew he did not have a valid driver’s license.“I saw him reach toward the center of his vehicle, so I shined the light in to see what he was doing,” Fulk told the television station. “He opened the duffel bag and there was a gun in it. So I pulled my gun, started issuing commands.”Sheriff Barnes said he never interacted with Routh, but his deputies did assist the Greensboro Police Department when Routh barricaded himself.“He was rather notorious among my people,” Barnes said. When he appeared in court on Dec. 18, 2002, Routh’s bond amount was increased to $100,000, and he was ordered released Dec. 18 by Superior Court Judge Peter M. McHugh. Two days later, Routh entered a plea agreement that led to dismissal of the explosives charge, court records showed. His bond was reduced to $10,000.As part of the plea agreement, Routh was ordered to serve 60 months of probation in lieu of a 15- to 19-month jail term, court records indicate. He was ordered not to drive without a valid license, not to possess “any firearm or explosive device,” to “obtain a mental health assessment and comply with any recommended course of treatment,” and pay a $225 fine.“As to the weapons charge, that was pled down to a concealed carry violation, and Routh got away with a wrist-slap,” Barnes said.Court records at the time showed Routh was convicted of a series of worthless-check offenses in November 1992 and a larceny charge in December 1997. He had convictions for more than a dozen traffic offenses between November 1984 and October 2001.Between 1998 and 2019, the state of North Carolina opened 95 criminal cases against Routh, according to online court records. That included 19 criminal charges lodged in 2002 alone, followed by 13 cases in 2010 and nine cases each in 1998, 1999, 2000, and 2009.During his five years of court supervision on the explosives offense, Routh was granted permission to travel to Costa Rica from July 2-9, 2004, court records show.Like Blaze News? Intel’s new gaming CPU boxes just leaked, Core Ultra 9 looks great

The packaging for the new lineup of Intel Arrow Lake gaming CPUs has just leaked out, and shows that the forthcoming new Core Ultra 9 285K is going to come in a special box, just like the company’s previous flagship chips. You might think the box is a negligible part of the equation, particularly when there’s no cooler in the box any more, but Intel knows the value of packaging when it comes to hardware enthusiasts, and it looks like it wants its new chips to be under the spotlight in unboxing videos. Intel is expected to release its new Arrow Lake gaming CPU lineup in October 2024, when they will go up against the latest AMD Zen 5 chips in the best gaming CPU battle. If Intel can get the performance right for the price, and avoid the stability issues that have plagued its 14th-gen Raptor Lake CPUs, then it could be onto a winner, and it looks as though the company is hoping the packaging will entice some gamers to its new top-end chip. God of War Ragnarok Steam reviews struggle due to Helldivers 2 issue

It’s been a rocky few months for Helldivers 2, as Arrowhead battles to find the right blend of fairness and fun. For some players, the regular changes to Helldivers 2’s stratagems and arsenal are part of a welcome effort to keep the game even. For others, Arrowhead is micromanaging, and its regular updates and patches are slowly flattening the enjoyment in pursuit of an impossible idea of ‘balance.’ Largely, though, the shift in sentiment towards Helldivers 2 began back in May, when Arrowhead told PC players it would have to link their Steam accounts to the PlayStation Network. While that update never went ahead, now the God of War Ragnarok Steam reviews are in, the Sony Santa Monica game is being criticized over the same issue.
