What’s House Speaker Johnson’s Next Move in Spending Fight?

What’s House Speaker Johnson’s Next Move in Spending Fight?

It’s back to the drawing board for House Speaker Mike Johnson. On Wednesday, the House failed to pass the continuing resolution spending bill, with the SAVE Act attached, that would have funded the federal government beyond the end of the fiscal year ending Sept. 30 and through March. Wednesday evening’s vote failed 202-220. Three Democrats—Reps. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez of Washington state, Jared Golden of Maine, and Donald Davis of North Carolina—joined 199 Republicans in voting for the stopgap spending bill. Perez’s and Golden’s seats are among the most vulnerable for Democrats in the upcoming election cycle. Despite those Democratic votes, Republican defections—14 “no” votes and two “present” votes—ultimately resulted in the measure’s failure. “Now we go back to the playbook. We’ll draw up another play, and we’ll come up with a solution,” Johnson said after the continuing resolution failed. “I’m already talking to colleagues about their many ideas. We have time to fix the situation. And we’ll get right to it.” Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky, was one of the Republicans who voted “present” on Johnson’s continuing resolution. “The [Safeguard American Voter Eligibility] Act is a good thing that seeks to prevent illegals from voting, but it’s not worth keeping our country on a collision course with insolvency,” Massie wrote in a tweet, explaining why he withheld his support from Johnson’s plan. “If the speaker would put a one-year CR on the floor instead of a six-month CR, an automatic 1% cut to spending would kick in on April 30th. We should do that, but too many Republicans in Congress don’t want to cut spending.” It’s a 6 month Continuing Resolution (instead of 12 separate bills) with the SAVE Act attached. The SAVE Act is a good thing that seeks to prevent illegals from voting, but it’s not worth keeping our country on a collision course with insolvency. I also suspect our Speaker isn’t…— Thomas Massie (@RepThomasMassie) September 9, 2024 Johnson is left with little time and few options. Just 12 days remain before government funding runs out in fiscal 2024 and a government shutdown ensues—a scenario especially dangerous politically on the eve of a presidential election. Now that the six-month continuing resolution with the SAVE Act attached has failed, Johnson could double down and attempt to attach some sort of immigration or election integrity concession to the continuing resolution that’s popular enough with the GOP conference to pass through the House on Republican votes alone. The more likely scenario, however, is pivoting to a “clean” continuing resolution with a March deadline, thereby empowering the next Congress to determine government spending levels and make government spending a major issue in the final weeks of the election cycle. The rightward flank of Johnson’s party—some of whom reject ever voting for a continuing resolution on principle and others who care more about passing the SAVE Act than funding the government—likely would be very unhappy with that scenario. The speaker would have to rely on a coalition of mostly Democrats and middle-of-the-road Republicans to pass the government funding mechanism out of the House. Yet another instance where the speaker has to rely on mostly Democratic votes to get legislation out of the House could severely harm his prospects of continuing to lead the House GOP moving forward. It has been reported that Johnson is talking with former President Donald Trump on the House GOP’s next steps. Nevertheless, even Johnson’s detractors in this scenario might be pleased to avoid another Christmastime omnibus negotiated by Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., who has once again put Johnson in a three-on-one situation vis-à-vis the other major congressional leaders, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., and House Minority Leader Rep. Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y. “One thing you cannot have is a government shutdown. It would be politically beyond stupid for us to do that right before the election, because certainly we’d get the blame,” McConnell told members of the media Tuesday. “I’m for whatever avoids a government shutdown, and that’ll ultimately end up, obviously, being a discussion between the [Senate] Democratic leader and the speaker of the House,” McConnell added. Schumer was quick to make use of McConnell’s talking points in a Sept. 17 speech on the Senate floor. “I urge [Speaker Johnson] to drop his current plan, and to work together to reach a bipartisan agreement with the other leaders—Leader McConnell, Leader Jeffries, and myself, as well as the White House. We do not have time to spare,” he said. With Johnson’s hand seriously weakened, Schumer has decided to play his. The New York Democrat is taking the first procedural step toward passing a mechanism to fund the government. “I will file cloture on a legislative vehicle that will enable us to prevent a Trump shutdown, in the event Speaker Johnson does not work with us in a bipartisan, bicameral manner,” Schumer said on the Senate floor. But if Schumer has his way, the next funding deadline would be December, not March, which would mean the current Congress could seek to hamstring a future Republican House, Senate, and Trump administration from enacting policy changes once in office. Rep. Ralph Norman, R-S.C., was among the members who voted for Johnson’s continuing resolution with the SAVE Act attached. In an email to The Daily Signal, Norman wrote, “the worst thing we can do is a CR through December and give the checkbook directly to Schumer for a year-end, lame duck omnibus.” “Right now everything is up in the air,” Norman added. “We will see how strong Speaker Johnson will stand against the Senate, right up against a possible government shutdown.” The post What’s House Speaker Johnson’s Next Move in Spending Fight? appeared first on The Daily Signal.

'Blessed Are Those Who End Pregnancies,' Female 'Pastor' Claims Jesus Would've Helped Mothers Abort Babies

A female “pastor” is going viral for rewriting the entire Christian religion to make it about…abortion. During a sermon she dubs “Roe Sunday,” she made baby killing a religious holy act and insists if Jesus were alive, he would be a “clinic escort” who guides mothers to their abortion appointments. This fruitcake female pastor says “Jesus would take women to clinics for abortions. He would be a clinic escort.” Is this the church of Satan? Sure sounds like it!! Geeze.pic.twitter.com/J9iBsNltqd — Juanita Broaddrick (@atensnut) September 18, 2024 That’s a very odd way of interpreting the Bible’s instruction to “Rescue those who are being taken away to death; hold back those who are stumbling to the slaughter.” (Proverbs 24:11- 12) Yet, this perverted “pastor” doubles down, stating “If Jesus were giving his sermon today, he might have also said, ‘blessed are those who end pregnancies…for they will be known for their loving kindness.” Killing babies isn't typically the first thing that comes to someone’s mind when they hear the words, “loving kindness.” In fact, the Bible states “Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward.” (Psalm 127:3-5a) “He will be filled with the Holy Spirit, even from his mother’s womb,” it adds. (Luke 1:15) Nevertheless, the “pastor” persisted in preaching that the “sacred” decisions to kill unborn babies “reflect the moral responsibility of reproductive power.” At one point, this “Christian” even bragged about having two abortions. Then she ironically accused actual Christians of “committing violence” “ in the name of Christianity,” because they’re against killing babies. That’s pretty rich coming from someone who is lecturing the congregation that ripping unborn babies limb by limb out of a mother’s womb is “sacred” to Christianity.

Elon Musk Issues One-Word Response to CNBC Guest’s Free Speech Defense

X CEO Elon Musk expressed support for Palantir Co-Founder Joe Lonsdale, who fired back at CNBC’s Squawk Box co-anchor Joe Kernen, suggesting that censorship constitutes the “greatest threat to the West.”   On Thursday, Musk shared a viral CNBC segment during which Lonsdale defended the tech mogul’s pledge to fight for free speech, captioning the post with a short yet powerful: “Exactly.” Earlier in the day, Kernen had asked Lonsdale whether Musk's $44 billion purchase of Twitter was worth it, to which Lonsdale replied, “If Elon hadn't bought Twitter- if Elon hadn't done this, the entire west would be at 10x the threat, our civilization works, Joe because we have free speech.” Squawk Box co-anchor Becky Quick hounded Lonsdale about X revenue falling from the loss of advertisers. Lonsdale pushed back, warning, “The revenue is down, of course, because the brands all went at him because the brands are all run by people who are not tied to the values of Western civilization.” Lonsdale explained further, “There are people being sued right now, who did illegal coordination to try to attack him, which probably was illegal.” Exactly https://t.co/VdUxNRDD5p — Elon Musk (@elonmusk) September 19, 2024 FLASHBACK: ‘Imprisoned or Killed’: Elon Musk Gives Reasons for Safeguarding THIS Key US Freedom Lonsdale referred to a lawsuit filed by Musk in August against advertisers “boycotting Twitter.” The Palantir co-founder accused these advertisers of behaving like a “cartel” to destroy Musk. “To coordinate behind the scenes with lies and to do something like that’s a cartel, trying to crush something, that’s not something necessarily appropriate,” Lonsdale warned. The lawsuit referenced is an ongoing suit by Musk against the World Federation of Advertisers, accusing them of encouraging a movement of advertisers to leave the platform. X CEO Linda Yaccarino shared evidence gained from the U.S. House Judiciary Committee, which alludes to a “group of companies” organizing “a systematic illegal boycott” against X.  ICYMI: Jim Jordan Uncovers Familiar Faces in Ad Boycott Plot Against Right-Leaning Outlets As the conversation began to wrap up, Kernan comfortably inquired, “So he’s not thin-skinned and sensitive, I don't think at all is he?” In response, Lonsdale shared his view on Musk's ownership of Twitter, reiterating,  “He’s fighting to save Western civilization, I think a lot of us are trying to do so as well. This is a huge time for our country.”  Conservatives are under attack. Helter Stelter: America’s most dangerous propagandist returns to CNN

Helter Stelter: America’s most dangerous propagandist returns to CNN

Propaganda comes in two forms. The first manipulates the public into accepting a particular political viewpoint or persuades them to do something that benefits the ruling class. A prime example is John Legend’s Pfizer ads, which ran in 2023 and 2024, encouraging people to stay "up to date" on their COVID mRNA boosters. The second type involves what CNN’s returning propagandist Brian Stelter routinely does — acting as an authority to vilify and demean critics of the ruling class narrative. In line with the COVID hysteria analogy, Stelter frequently targeted critics like Alex Berenson in 2021. What is truth, and what is disinformation? That’s for the high priests like Brian Stelter to decide. This second type of propaganda is often more dangerous than the first. It’s the kind preferred by the so-called champions of the “free press,” and Stelter excels at it. For years, Stelter has told his audience and the American people that anyone with views opposing the regime spreads mal-, mis-, and disinformation. In his esteemed opinion, the punishment for this is cancellation from public life. After a brief period of introspection following the Discovery merger, CNN’s staff shrugged off the constraints of Chris Licht’s oppressive leadership and are once again free to embrace their bias and partisanship. Is it any wonder they’ve brought back their chief propagandist, Stelter? After all, there’s an election to win. How did Stelter rise to become America’s most dangerous propagandist? It all started with a newsletter and a blog. Making of a narrative guardian Stelter grew up a media nerd. He had a strong interest in nightly news and its anchors. He turned this interest into TV Newser, a blog he started from his University of Maryland dorm room as a teenager. The blog quickly became a must-read after Stelter began breaking media stories ahead of more experienced journalists. He sold the blog but continued writing it for years. After graduating, Stelter began working for the New York Times covering the media. His big break came in 2013 when he took over CNN’s long-running media criticism show, “Reliable Sources.” As the 2016 election unfolded and its aftermath played out, Stelter became the most vocal cheerleader for administrative state and media narratives, wielding the power and prestige of his role as a media referee. From the debunked Russian collusion story to COVID extremism and even Hunter Biden’s laptop, no one defended the party line and attacked critics as consistently as Stelter. No one. His unwavering commitment to protecting the establishment at all costs may give the impression that he’s comically unaware. But he isn’t. As Shakespeare said, “All the world is a stage,” and Stelter clearly knows and relishes his role on it. Stelter’s main role is to keep mainstream media in line, ensuring that they stick to the approved narrative. He is a master at this, consistently playing the concern troll against anyone presenting alternatives to the accepted truth, even relying on figures whose credibility with the public is in ruins. Enter Dan Rather, the disgraced former host of CBS Evening News. After Trump’s victory in the 2016 election, Stelter frequently brought Rather onto his show to discuss “truth.” In 2018, Stelter even had Rather explain how journalists needed to provide “truth” to counter “Trump’s fantasyland.” That’s right — Stelter invited the man fired from CBS for fabricating National Guard documents to speak on the importance of “truth.” Truth doesn’t matter to Stelter. Scoring points on the opposition does. Stelter has never hesitated to defend a regime narrative, no matter how false. When Hillary Clinton’s campaign used the Democratic Party to pay a law firm that hired an opposition research team to create a fake dossier written by a former MI-6 spy alleging “Russian collusion,” Stelter became one of its biggest defenders. In 2020, when the media and deep state pushed the narrative that the violent riots across America’s cities were “mostly peaceful protests,” Stelter did what he does best — discredit those showing the truth. He portrayed them as extremists trying to deceive the public, like when he attacked Sean Hannity for using days-old footage to make his point. When the media and Big Tech colluded to protect Joe Biden from allegations contained in his son’s laptop weeks before the 2020 election, Stelter and his protégé Oliver Darcy quickly came to his defense. Stelter tweeted, “'Over the past 24 hours, the Hunter Biden narrative pushed by President Trump and his allies in right-wing media has started to unravel,’ @oliverdarcy writes in the latest edition of @ReliableSources.” Yes, the media did their job protecting the Biden family by “unraveling” the “narrative,” but they didn’t unravel the truth that the laptop and its contents were real. Stelter did what he was born to do: influence the outcome of the election for his side. The devil in disinformation Fast-forward to 2022. After the Discovery-Warner Brothers merger, and under pressure from libertarian board member and former Trump donor John Malone, CNN fired Stelter. This left a vacuum for the type of activist “journalism” that had become synonymous with Stelter. Left-wing activists, like Dan Froomkin at Press Watch, lamented the decision. Froomkin cried, “By firing Brian Stelter, CNN is capitulating to disinformation rather than fighting it.” That key word appears again — disinformation. Like a talisman, it summons the supplicants of the progressive order to the holy fight. But what is truth, and what is disinformation? That’s for the high priests like Brian Stelter to decide. After spending a little over 100 weeks in the wilderness, the prophet returned to CNN, finding a sea of shifting anti-speech norms that his past activism had laid the groundwork for. Now in 2024, governments have ramped up their crackdowns on free speech. The U.K.’s new Labour government is emptying prisons to jail social media offenders, while Brazil has shut down access to X, formerly Twitter. Anti-speech totalitarianism that would make Big Brother proud is on the rise. The fervor to suppress speech isn’t confined to other so-called “liberal democracies.” It’s surging here in the American republic. Just this week, former U.S. senator and perennial failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton called for jailing those who spread “disinformation,” First Amendment be damned. Meanwhile, California Governor Gavin Newsom (D) signed legislation making it a crime to “knowingly distribute an ad or other election communications that contain materially deceptive content — including deepfakes.” This isn’t just about regulating or banning deepfakes, which may seem reasonable to most. But what exactly is the “materially deceptive content” Newsom refers to? Differences in how government should be run? Who gets to decide? Brian Stelter’s unwavering dedication to protecting those who seek to amass power by limiting Americans' access to speech has brought us to this pretty pass. He has profited greatly from his role as the gatekeeper of “truth.” His actions have paved the way for ever-increasing restrictions on speech throughout the so-called free world. So in a few years, as you stand at the gate of the gulag for posting one too many memes, remember who sent you there. Then, if they’ll let you, raise a glass of potato vodka and salute his name.

FBI TARGETS whistleblowers — but MISSES would-be assassins

Not one, but two would-be assassins were able to fly below the FBI’s radar before they attempted to take Donald Trump’s life — and within just a few months of each other. Blaze Media investigative journalist Steve Baker is attempting to uncover how this happened, and he’s not exactly pleased with what he’s finding. “Joe Hanneman and I are digging into this as deeply as we possibly can with all of the sources that we have connected to the various agencies, and nobody believes that this particular individual was there by accident or that he got lucky about where he was,” Baker tells Jill Savage and Matthew Peterson of “Blaze News Tonight.” Not only is Baker digging, but whistleblowers have been coming forward to voice their concerns about the security measures taken to protect the former president. In a post on X, Senator Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) revealed a letter from one of these whistleblowers accusing acting Director Rowe of cutting the manpower of the Secret Service countersurveillance division by 20% without informing Congress. “Even more concerning, the whistleblower claims that some of the officers had flagged security lapses before the attempt, that’ll be the first assassination attempt, on Donald Trump instead of addressing those concerns,” Savage notes. In addition, the FBI seems to be paying more attention to the whistleblowers than to who may be going after the president. Suspended Special Agent Garret O’Boyle is one of those whistleblowers who has risked it all to warn Americans. “Garret is one of those guys who made the choice, the honorable choice, to stand up to the agency when they were imposing upon him the unfair and unconstitutional requirements related to the COVID regimens. Vaccines, lockdowns, isolation, things of that nature,” Baker explains. “He became a whistleblower, and he did it all correctly.” “It’s one of the most abominable stories of what the government will do against one of their own, because if they’ll do it against him, they’ll do it against us,” he adds.
