Luke Bryan & Jason Aldean Join Shenandoah To Recreate “Sunday In The South” Music Video

Maybe THE most underrated '90s country song. Ok, Shenandoah's "Sunday In the South" isn't quite a '90s country song. It was actually released in 1989, the third single from their sophomore album The Road Not Taken, and became the band's second #1 single after topping the chart with "Church On Cumberland Road" earlier that year. But to me, Shenandoah will always be one of the legends of '90s country. I grew up listening to the band fronted by Marty Raybon with their songs like "Two Dozen Roses," "Ghost In This House," "Moon Over Georgia," "Next To You, Next To Me" and so many other classic hits. But one of my favorites will always be "Sunday In the South." For me, "Sunday In the South" has just always been one of those nostalgic songs with such vivid lyrics that when you listen to it you’re immediately transported back to those Sundays when you were little, going to church, or having dinner with your family, spending the day out on the lake, or wherever it may be: Mill worker houses lined up in a row Another southern Sunday's morning glow Beneath the steeple, all the people have begun Shakin' hands with the man who grips the gospel gun While in quiet prayer, the smell of dinner on the ground Fills up the morning air, ain't nothin' sweeter around I can almost hear my momma pray "Oh Lord, forgive us when we doubt" Another sacred Sunday in the south, alright And while "Two Dozen Roses" is the band's biggest hits, it's "Sunday In the South" that's criminally underrated for me. Recently, Shenandoah has been teaming up with some modern country superstars to re-record some of their biggest hits, including a new version of "Two Dozen Roses" featuring Luke Combs that the band released last year. And a few months ago, they called on Jason Aldean and Luke Bryan for an updated version of "Sunday In the South." And today, they released a recreation of the original music video for the 1989 song. The video was shot at Country Boy Restaurant in Leipers Fork, Tennessee, just outside of Nashville, but also features the iconic Muscle Shoals landmarks from the original 1989 music video. Speaking about the opportunity to remake their classic song and music video with Jason and Luke, lead singer Marty Raybon praised the two for joining them on such a special song: "Having Jason and Luke on this song has certainly been a highlight for us. This song has always ministered to us in such a special way." And Luke Bryan spoke about just how much the song means to him: "My earliest memories of ‘Sunday in the South’ is that it was a song that was speaking exactly my life. This song shaped the way I thought about music and how I wanted to make music one day." The song (well, the original at least) will always be one of my favorites, probably because it's so nostalgic but also because Shenandoah in general is just so damn underrated. So however you feel about the remake, it's nice to see the song finally getting some more well-deserved attention. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jhkwyCW2Dds
