They're So Sad! 'For Better or Worse,' TIME Designates Trump as 'Person of the Year'

On Thursday, NBC's Today engaged in their annual ritual of announcing Time magazine's "Person of the Year," which was (zero surprise) Donald Trump. Time tends to defer to whoever won the presidential campaign as the year's most influential newsmaker, but they don't have to be happy about it.  NBC host Savannah Guthrie announced that "for better or worse," Time has picked Persons of the Year, and then editor-in-chief Sam Jacobs also said “for better or for worse, [he] had the most influence on the news in 2024.” “This is someone who made an historic comeback, who reshaped the American presidency and who’s reordering American politics,” Jacobs said. “It’s hard to argue with the fact that the person who’s moving into the Oval Office is the most influential person in news.” Jacobs also claimed they spent more time with Trump than any other media outlet. Trump gave Time far more time than President Biden did in the first half of the year, and faced much tougher scrutiny. Jacobs found Trump "a little more subdued" after the election, and already discussed how Trump is sad that this was his last campaign, like he's already passing from the political scene!  Ed Morrissey at Hot Air laughed at finalists like Kamala Harris and Kate Middleton: "consider how miserable Time’s editors had to be to have to choose between Trump and Netanyahu"! NBC's segment on TIME's Person of the Year uses the term twice that "for better or for worse," they had to pick Donald Trump. Four years ago, they gushed all over Biden-Harris as saving Democracy. pic.twitter.com/BlLBIiIvBL — Tim Graham (@TimJGraham) December 12, 2024 Naturally, in 2020, NBC put on a gushy one-hour special to tout Joe Biden and Kamala Harris as their Persons of the Year, and these two were presented as saviors of democracy. Ed Felsenthal, then the editor-in-chief, asked Biden: "Do you think this is a do-or-die moment for democracy?" Biden replied: "This moment was one of those do-or-die moments. Had Trump won, I think we would have changed the nature of who we are as a country for a long time." Time writer Molly Ball added: “Joe Biden saw what happened in Charlottesville as a symptom of a deeper American disease that only he could fix." In her 2020 cover story, Charlotte Alter compared Trump to a virus: "All new Presidents inherit messes from their predecessors, but Biden is the first to have to think about literally decontaminating the White House." Later on CNN, Alter falsely claimed "Biden and Harris won overwhelmingly, by a popular vote margin not seen since FDR in 1932." Whether by raw numbers or percentages, she was wrong. Obama and Biden won by a wider margin in 2008, not to mention Reagan's 1984 blowout.

Google Quietly Thwarting Trump Nominees with Leftist Results for Fourth Straight Week

Google stacked search results for Trump nominees with legacy and leftist media sources for the fourth straight week. In fact, the search giant went above and beyond to push outlets that encourage hatred of several of President-elect Donald Trump’s choices. The Media Research Center discovered Tuesday that Google had once again rigged its general search and news tab results filling them with media sources hostile to Trump and the people he has nominated to serve in his administration. Leftist and legacy media articles greatly outnumbered articles from news outlets considered “right” or “lean right” by media ratings firm AllSides. After comparing the search results to the AllSides media bias list, MRC researchers found eight times more left-leaning articles in the general search results than U.S.-based “lean right” or “right” articles. Google similarly supplied nearly six times as many left-leaning articles for its news tab search.  Google provided scarcely any articles categorized as “lean right” or “right” by AllSides to go along with these vicious attacks and this stacked deck of leftist and legacy media. For the news tab search results, Google provided 176 left-leaning articles compared to only 31 U.S.-based “lean right” or “right” articles. The general search results included a paltry 12 “lean right” or “right” articles, badly outnumbered by the 96 leftist articles in the results. Furthermore, Google failed to show a single U.S.-based “lean right” or “right” article for over 65 percent of nominees that the search giant provided articles for in general search.  Google truly distinguished itself by pushing outlets that stoke hatred against nominees like Kash Patel, Trump’s FBI director nominee. Google filled Patel’s general search results with attacks and elevated a fearmongering Slate article with the headline “We’ve Seen Kash Patel’s Enemies List. It’s Terrifying” at the top of the page. Other articles by leftist outlets such as NPR, CNN, The Guardian, The Daily Mail and NBC News spread fear about Patel.  In the news tab search result for “Kash Patel,” Google included the Slate article second from the top, while also elevating a Mother Jones article calling Patel a “useful idiot for Putin,” a CNN article implying Patel was paranoid and an NPR article accusing him of feeding “conspiracy theories” to children.  Meanwhile, Americans using Google’s news tab to search “Linda McMahon,” Trump’s pick to lead the Department of Education, on Dec. 10 would have encountered the words “News about sexual abuse” at the top of the page above all the results. From there, Google included seven stories in a row about sexual abuse accusations before a Letter to the Editor from The Columbus Dispatch headlined “Donald Trump pick Linda McMahon can be stopped before she wreaks havoc on education.” A Google news tab search for “Russell Vought,” Trump’s chosen Office of Management and Budget director, also featured a host of slanted articles, including fearmongering from leftist attack dog ProPublica. Google pushed a negative blog by Truthout, a radical leftist publication, to the top of the news tab results for Vought. Truthout pitches visitors to its website with a ridiculous anti-Trump pop-up cash grab: “One of the sharpest weapons against fascism … is journalism that tells the truth. To resist Trump in 2025, we’re appealing to our readers to add 1500 new monthly donors before December 31. Your donation is a tangible act of resistance.” Google’s choice to stuff the results with these radical leftist attacks and legacy media sources produced extremely lopsided results. This is despite the fact that MRC researchers twice counted the Kamala Harris cheerleaders at The Bulwark, as “lean right” due to AllSides choice to rate the outlet this way. Yes, the NeverTrump Bulwark was repeatedly featured by Google. Despite only providing 31 “lean right” or “right articles” in its news tab search, Google still twice found space for this publication that repeatedly pushed people to support the election of the most radical Democratic nominee in history and is filled with rabidly anti-Trump writers who embrace leftist positions on transgenderism, abortion, immigration, the fight against DEI and other issues.  Yet even with this obvious left-wing, anti-Trump publication counted as “lean right,” the numbers still show screaming leftist bias from Google.  Methodology  For this report, MRC Free Speech America analyzed the Dec. 10 Google Search and News tab results for the first and last names of twenty men and women nominated for cabinet-level positions in the second Trump administration as well as Trump’s choice for FCC chairman and Trump’s choice for FBI director. MRC Free Speech America created an algorithm to automate this process in a clean environment. A “clean environment” allows for organic search to populate results without the influence of prior search history and tracking cookies. MRC Free Speech America also utilized the AllSides media bias chart as a gauge to determine which outlets are “right” and “lean right.” AllSides notes it has a “patent on rating bias and use[s] multiple methodologies,” not a homogenous group or an algorithm. “Our methods are: Blind Bias Surveys of Americans, Editorial Reviews by a multipartisan team of panelists who look for common types of media bias, independent reviews, and third-party data.” Readers should be aware that this report only uses the AllSides list to analyze ratings of outlets considered by AllSides to be “right” and “lean right” and does not necessarily reflect MRC’s characterizations of these outlets. Nominees searched on December 10 include Brendan Carr, Brooke Rollins, Christopher Wright, Doug Collins, Douglas Burgum, Elise Stefanik, Howard Lutnick, Jamieson Greer, Kash Patel, Kelly Loeffler, Kevin Hassett, Kristi Noem, Lee Zeldin, Linda McMahon, Lori Chavez-DeRemer, Marco Rubio, Pamela Bondi, Peter Hegseth, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Russell Vought, Scott Bessent, Scott Turner, Sean Duffy, Susan Wiles and Tulsi Gabbard. Elizabeth Warren tries to walk back justification for CEO's killing while Jimmy Kimmel leans into suspect's fandom

The killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson helped once again highlight the left's appetite for ideologically motivated violence. Among the radicals who came out of the woodwork to seemingly justify the targeted Dec. 4 shooting of the father of two was Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D). The gun-control advocate who has received many financial contributions from the health and insurance industries not only seemed to exploit Thompson's death to make an apparent threat against others like him but sympathized with his alleged killer, telling the HuffPost in an interview Tuesday, "Violence is never the answer, but people can be pushed only so far." When initially asked about the callous responses to Thompson's death, Warren told HuffPost, "The visceral response from people across this country who feel cheated, ripped off, and threatened by the vile practices of their insurance companies should be a warning to everyone in the health care system." "Violence is never the answer, but people can be pushed only so far," added the failed presidential candidate. "This is a warning that if you push people hard enough, they lose faith in the ability of their government to make change, lose faith in the ability of the people who are providing the health care to make change, and start to take matters into their own hands in ways that will ultimately be a threat to everyone." Billy Gribbin, communications director for Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah), responded on X, noting, "This statement invents a non-existent connection between the insane murderer and United Healthcare, which did not push this rich kid to do anything, even accidentally. He went crazy and killed someone." 'I should have been much clearer.' Wall Street Journal film critic Kyle Smith wrote, "Absolutely vile from Elizabeth Warren." "Really leaning into the 'but' on this one in ways no Democrat has been comfortable doing," tweeted Semafor Washington bureau chief Benjy Sarlin. "No, it is not inevitable that some weird rich kid assassinates an insurance CEO — what is this framing?" Numerous other critics suggested that the second half of Warren's controversial sentence effectively negates the first, rendering the statement an endorsement for murder. One commentator on X made the point with a similarly formulated statement: "'Rape is never the answer but ... she was dressed provocatively.'" In the face of incredible backlash online, Warren quickly issued a statement amending her remarks. Igor Bobic, the author of the HuffPost piece, noted several hours later that Warren had "clarifi[ed] her remarks on the UnitedHealthcare CEO's killing and the response to it," jettisoning the second half of her original statement. "Violence is never the answer. Period," said Warren. "I should have been much clearer that there is never a justification for murder." 'I would visit him in prison and bake him cookies maybe.' While the Democratic senator clarified that she actually thinks murder is wrong, fellow travelers continued to relish the bloodletting. Jimmy Kimmel, who bemoaned the fate of "decency" following President-elect Donald Trump's victory last month, called Thompson's suspected murderer "Time's sexiest alleged murderer of the year" and "the hottest cold-blooded killer in America" on his Disney network show Tuesday. Kimmel also shared messages supposedly penned by producers on his show expressing admiration for Luigi Mangione. One text message shared on screen said, "I love Luigi." Another message said, "Ppl are saying a NY jury has the power to find him innocent. Bc we all love him." Kimmel also posted a message that read, "I would visit him in prison and bake him cookies maybe." Kimmel further trivialized the matter on his show the following evening, equating the shooting to a "protest." The late-night host did, however, acknowledge this week that "sometimes when people identify with why a crime was committed, we lose sight of the reality of that crime." 'It feels like justice in this system.' Former Washington Post writer Taylor Lorenz was among the radicals who appeared joyful this week about the reality of the crime. Blaze News previously reported that Lorenz told Piers Morgan of "Piers Morgan Uncensored" on Monday that she "felt, along with so many other Americans, joy" upon learning of Thompson's slaying. "I take that back. 'Joyful' is the wrong word, Piers," Lorenz later said. "Vindicated, celebratory — because it feels like justice in this system when somebody responsible for the deaths of tens of thousands of Americans suffers the same fate as those tens of thousands of Americans who he murdered." Illinois Gov. Pritzker agrees to deport 'violent' criminal illegal aliens, meet with Trump admin

Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker (D) stated Wednesday that he supports deporting illegal aliens who are convicted of violent offenses and would be open to meeting with President-elect Donald Trump's incoming administration. In response to recent comments by Trump's border czar, Tom Homan, Pritzker told WFLD that he is open to removing some illegal immigrants from the country.'I do not want them in my state.'During an event in Chicago earlier this week, Homan had a clear message for Pritzker and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson: Either help the incoming administration with deportations or "get out of the way."He vowed to start the deportation plans "right here in Chicago.""If the Chicago mayor doesn't want to help, step aside. But if he impedes us, harbors or conceals illegal aliens, I will prosecute him," Homan warned.Chicago is a sanctuary city that prohibits local law enforcement agencies from cooperating with Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents to assist with deportation efforts.Homan has repeatedly argued that such policies protect criminal illegal aliens. He has further noted that efforts by liberal state and local leaders to hinder deportation efforts will only result in ICE deploying more officers in those communities. Homan explained that Johnson's pledge to protect illegal aliens would produce the "exact results he's bitching about."Following Homan's remarks, Pritzker initially refused to respond. His office said, "Rather than responding to every ridiculous boast from Trump lackeys, Governor Pritzker is focused on what he was focused on during the first Trump term: leading our state with competence instead of chaos."However, on Wednesday, Pritzker stated that he supports deporting violent illegal aliens."Violent criminals who are undocumented and convicted of violent crime should be deported," Pritzker said. "I do not want them in my state; I don't think they should be in the United States."He said he would welcome a meeting with Homan or the incoming Trump administration but claimed no one had contacted him.Last month, Pritzker told MSNBC host Joy Reid that he would do everything within his power to "protect our undocumented immigrants," calling them "residents of our state.""I want to be clear that there are certain circumstances in which the federal government, state governments should work together to allow deportation. An example would be somebody who's been convicted of a violent crime," he said. "But they are talking about rounding up people who are law-abiding undocumented immigrants in this country, many of whom are working, paying taxes, not getting any benefits from those taxes, I might add," Pritzker stated, referring to foreign nationals who illegally entered the country. He claimed that Trump's mass deportation plan "may be unconstitutional."Like Blaze News? Lisa Murkowski says she's 'not attached' to the Republican label

Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska reportedly said she is "not attached" to the GOP label and that she would rather have "no label," and she has the voting record to prove it. Murkowski's track record differs from her hard-line Republican colleagues. She often breaks from her party at consequential moments, like voting against confirming Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh in 2018 or being the only GOP senator to vote in favor of convicting now President-elect Donald Trump in 2021. Murkowski said she felt "more comfortable" with no party label than with "an identity as a Republican."'I don't think I've made any secret of the fact that I'm more of a Ronald Reagan Republican than I am a Trump Republican.'“I'm not attached to a label," Murkowski said. "I'd rather be that ‘no label.’ I'd rather be that person that is just known for trying to do right by the state and the people that I serve, regardless of party, and I'm totally good and comfortable with that." Although she has been known to buck the party, Murkowski insisted that she is "still a Republican" and that she has "never shed [her] party label." "We've got a system in the Senate where there are two sides of the aisle, and I have to sit on one side or I have to sit on the other," Murkowski said. "I don't think I've made any secret of the fact that I'm more of a Ronald Reagan Republican than I am a Trump Republican," Murkowski continued. "And someone said, 'Well, you aren't really a Republican at all.' And I said, 'You can call me whatever you want to call me.'"Murkowski and Republican Sens. Susan Collins of Maine, Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, and Joni Ernst of Iowa have functioned as a roadblock against Trump, potentially tanking the incoming administration's Cabinet nominees. Most recently, Pete Hegseth, who has been nominated to head the Department of Defense, was initially facing an uphill battle for his Senate confirmation thanks to Ernst. Although she went against the grain, the pressure campaign from Trump's political allies prompted her to cave and support Hegseth. Since then, many Republican senators have fallen in line and enthusiastically and publicly endorsed Trump's nominees. Murkowski, however, has remained relatively quiet on the issue. Like Blaze News?
