Ex-FBI Official: ‘Scary’ Possibility Must Be Addressed After 2nd Trump Assassination Attempt

Former FBI Assistant Director Chris Swecker said there is a “scary” possibility that must be considered following the second alleged attempt to assassinate former President Donald Trump on Sunday. Ryan Routh, a 58-year-old Democrat donor, was arrested on Sunday after authorities say he positioned himself 300-500 yards away from Trump while the Republican nominee was golfing at Trump International Golf Course West Palm Beach. Secret Service agents reportedly spotted the barrel of a rifle sticking out of a fence. They fired at the alleged would-be assassin before the suspect fled and was apprehended by authorities. Swecker, who served as assistant director of the FBI’s Criminal Investigative Division from 2004 to 2006, told Newsweek on Monday that authorities need to focus on one question. “The biggest question to answer is: ‘How did the would-be assassin know to be at that location at that time?'” he said. “There are only three possible answers: He guessed and got very lucky; he conducted surveillance on Trump and followed him to the golf course or he had inside information about Trump’s schedule.” “The last answer is scary and has implications that another person was involved,” Swecker added. The former FBI assistant director also said that the Left’s “demonization of Trump is resonating with the fringe elements who are mentally unstable and highly impressionable,” adding that it is “time to tone it down a bit.” Swecker said that Routh appears to be a “wingnut.” Am I Racist? Is In Theaters NOW — Get Your Tickets Here! Routh made small donations exclusively to Democrats in 2019 and 2020 and was convicted of possessing a weapon of mass destruction — a fully automatic machine gun — in 2002. That year, he reportedly barricaded himself inside a Greensboro, North Carolina, business with a gun. Routh was also sentenced for driving without a license, carrying a concealed weapon, and a hit and run in 2003, Fox 8 reported. On Sunday, authorities found an AK-47-style rifle, a GoPro, and backpacks where Routh allegedly set himself up to take a shot at Trump. Routh criticized Trump in social media posts, including one where he wrote, “While you were my choice in [2016], I and the world hoped that president Trump would be different and better than the candidate, but we all were greatly disappointment [sic] and it seems you are getting worse and devolving. I will be glad when you gone.” Swecker also commented on Routh’s reported attempts to get fighters to sign up to help Ukraine fight Russia. “We know this suspect has posted about Trump being a danger to democracy and he has been active on some strange quests: visiting Ukraine to round up Afghan fighters so motive is coming into focus—he is a wing nut who dislikes authority, based on his arrest record for resisting arrest in a two-hour standoff,” Swecker said.

‘Show Up’: GOP Attendance Could Make Or Break Vote On Divisive Biden Nominee

The fate of a controversial judicial nominee who has faced stern GOP opposition may come down to attendance, leading to pressure on Senate Republicans to “show up” after several of them did not vote during a key juncture last week. Conservative activists sounded off as U.S. Attorney Kevin Ritz of Tennessee, whom President Joe Biden picked to become a U.S. Circuit Judge for the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals, could pass his final confirmation test as early as Monday. Warning of Democrats pushing “radical and unqualified judicial nominees,” Judicial Crisis Network President Carrie Severino told The Daily Wire, “With a tightly divided chamber, Senate Republicans not showing up for key judicial votes is an own goal.” May Mailman, director of the Independent Women’s Law Center, said, “Wake up Senate Republicans. Here we have an attorney accused of unethically pursuing criminal charges, using his government post to pick and choose winners.” She also told The Daily Wire, “That’s exactly the weaponized DOJ our nation cannot survive. Nothing could be more concerning for a lifetime judicial appointment. Show up for this, because American citizens deserve a fair judiciary.” Republican lawmakers have raised concerns about claims that Ritz has acted unethically as a prosecutor, including allegations that he misrepresented the terms of a plea deal and went too soft on defendants accused of gun crimes. Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) charged the White House did not “properly” consult herself and Sen. Bill Hagerty (R-TN) about Ritz, given they are his home-state senators and would traditionally have “blue slip” authority to block him. During his confirmation hearing, Ritz said he had a “clean ethical record,” according to Bloomberg. Democrats shrugged off the criticism and said Republicans set a precedent of ditching home-state deference under the Trump administration. Am I Racist? Is In Theaters NOW — Get Your Tickets Here! The Senate is narrowly controlled by the Democrats thanks to the independent members who caucus with them. Overall, there are 49 Republicans, 47 Democrats, and four independents with an election coming up that could shift the balance. By an 11-10 vote along party lines, the Judiciary Committee advanced Ritz’s nomination in May, and last week the Senate voted 49-42 to invoke cloture in a move that paved the way to a final vote expected to happen late Monday afternoon. Nine senators, including eight Republicans, did not vote on cloture for Ritz. Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (I-AZ) joined with the Republicans who did show up in opposing it. All voting Democrats and the other independents voted to move forward. Sen. Joe Manchin (I-WV) vowed earlier this year — when he was still registered as a Democrat — that he would reject any judicial nominee who did not get GOP support, but he ended up voting last week to advance Ritz’s nomination anyway. Axios reported a Manchin spokesperson said the senator “was not prepared to play” along with the opposition to Ritz, claiming it was “largely based on political reasons as to how the WH handled the process, and not on his qualifications.” The outlet also noted that Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) is planning a “blitz” of confirmation votes in the final weeks of Biden’s administration to beat the 234 mark achieved under Trump. Biden reportedly has 207. Severino lamented how Manchin sided with Democrats in the Ritz cloture vote, telling The Daily Wire, “It’s disappointing to see Senator Joe Manchin kowtowing to Senator Schumer. So much for his purported moderation and independence.”

Would-Be Trump Assassin Laughs, Smiles During First Court Appearance, Charged On 2 Counts

The man suspected of trying to assassinate former President Donald Trump laughed and smiled during his first court appearance on Monday morning. Ryan Wesley Routh, 58, allegedly attempted to kill Trump with an AK-47-style rifle with a scope. He reportedly hid in bushes at Trump’s golf club in West Palm Beach and was about 400 yards away from Trump when Secret Service spotted the rifle and opened fire. Cameras were not allowed inside the courthouse, but Fox News confirmed Monday that Routh repeatedly smiled and laughed during a conversation with his court-appointed lawyer before the hearing started. Another reporter permitted into the courthouse, Brooke Chau, posted, “Routh had slicked back dirty blonde hair, a stoic look, he stared at reporters and was handcuffed wearing a navy blue jumpsuit.” Routh had slicked back dirty blonde hair, a stoic look, he stared at reporters and was handcuffed wearing a navy blue jumpsuit. @WPTV https://t.co/ZixhoQmTWT — Brooke Chau (@BrookeChauWPTV) September 16, 2024 During his appearance, Routh said he makes about $3,000 a month but has no savings or assets aside from two trucks he has back in Hawaii. The suspect also said he sometimes supports his son. The hearing before Magistrate Judge Ryon M. McCabe only lasted eight minutes. Routh, who is reportedly a convicted felon with a lengthy criminal history, was charged with two counts: possessing a firearm while being a convicted felon, and possessing a firearm with an obliterated serial number, CNN correspondent Dianne Gallagher reported. The first charge carries up to 15 years of prison time, with a possible five-year sentence for the second charge, ABC 11 notes. Trump on Sunday responded to the attack — which marked the second attempt on his life in just nine weeks. “There were gunshots in my vicinity, but before rumors start spiraling out of control, I wanted you to hear this first: I AM SAFE AND WELL!,” Trump said. “Nothing will slow me down. I will NEVER SURRENDER! I will always love you for supporting me. Unity. Peace. Make America Great Again.” Routh has a bond hearing set for September 23. The suspect will be formally arraigned at the end of the month. Related: Son Of Would-Be Assassin Bashes Trump, Suggests Dad Was Trying To Be A ‘Martyr’

Denver Suburb Wants To Sue City For Welcoming Thousands Of Immigrants

The town council of Castle Rock outside of Denver has voted unanimously to explore legal action against the city for welcoming more than 42,000 immigrants since December 2022. Castle Rock Town Councilmember Max Brooks introduced a motion during a September 3 meeting that would direct the town’s attorney to research legal recourse against Denver over a flood of migrants that have entered the city and spread out to surrounding suburbs. Other municipalities are considering joining Castle Rock in fighting Denver’s immigration policies, according to Brooks. “This isn’t just a decision that Denver gets to make because it’s impacting the rest of the Front Range. So the idea is to join with other municipalities and say it’s time to stop,” Brooks told CBS News Colorado. “Our town attorney’s office has already had conversations with the county attorney with Douglas County, already had conversations with the city of Aurora, and also had conversations with the city of Parker.” Officials from Denver’s surrounding areas have complained about migrants, and sometimes dangerous gang members, spreading out of the city. Officials in Aurora have said that members of Tren de Aragua, a Venezuelan-based gang, are wreaking havoc on local communities. Am I Racist? Is In Theaters NOW — Get Your Tickets Here! “We currently have entire complexes under gang control — complexes where staff have been beaten up, they’ve been threatened, their families have been threatened [and] complexes where there are no staff left on the property,” Aurora City Council Member Danielle Jurinsky said last month. “These complexes are being run by this Tren de Aragua gang.” “They start brokering apartments themselves when someone leaves out of fear or whatever. They go in and take pictures of the apartment themselves. Then, I’ve been told, within hours, a Venezuelan family moves in,” Jurinsky said. Denver has offered immigrants a raft of benefits, including six months of paid housing and a bus ticket to elsewhere in the state or country. The city has planned to spend an estimated $90 million on services for newly arrived migrants who claim to be seeking asylum in the United States. Castle Rock’s move toward legal action is about changing Denver’s approach to immigration, not about extracting compensation, according to Brooks. “I don’t want a dime from Denver, I just don’t want them to continue to have a policy that is having a negative impact on the Front Range,” Brooks said. “You don’t wait until the hurricane is on you to board up your windows and leave town. We understand that there is a storm coming,” he added.

Street Performer Shows Off An Eclectic Group Of Companions

In Porto, Portugal, pedestrians might see many strange and unusual sights. While strolling, they can hear the unique music of a punch note card hand crank music box. If they follow the sound, they may come face-to-face with a street busker. He’s been a street performer with an audience of birds for many years. @sucrre_canddy Like here, Daah #interviews #fypシ゚viral #portugal #porto ♬ original sound – Nina Porto, Portugal, is the second largest city in the country (Lisbon is the largest). With a fantastic tourist trade, visitors could spend days there and not see everything. But if you ever visit, you should listen carefully and follow your ears to see one of the most famous street performers in the city, with his array of odd birds. In 2018, one tourist took some time to learn more about the man and recorded a YouTube video about his experience. The man lives just outside the city with his family and travels into town each day to perform. Some days, his children accompany him, but most recent videos show the man performing alone to his audience of birds. The flock of birds includes several chickens, doves, and even a pale yellow parakeet. His cart has several perches for the birds, with wind chimes that add to the music. The music box is a hand-cranked punch-card instrument. The songs are on stiff cards that feed through the machine as the handle turns. Each hole in the card produces a different musical note. As the street performer produces the tinny music, each bird sits on a perch, listening intently. The man’s smiling face greets tourists as they stroll the city streets. The array of birds seems content to stare into the street as the music plays and the man taps the wind chimes. Please share. You can find the source of this story’s featured image here.
