CNN fact-checker Daniel Dale delivered a brutal, eight-part takedown of the @KamalaHQ X account, which has been named as the Vice President’s official rapid response account, noting that it had “made a habit of misleadingly clipping and inaccurately captioning video clips to attack former President Donald Trump.” “Fact check: Harris campaign social media account has repeatedly deceived with misleading edits and captions,” the headline read, noting that the account then blasted those misleading edits out to more than 1.3 million followers on X, formerly Twitter. From the CNN article: The Harris campaign deploys @KamalaHQ as a kind of irreverent attack dog, using jocular posts to draw attention to controversial, incorrect, or dubious comments by Trump and his allies. But the account, which the Harris campaign calls its “official rapid response page,” has itself made inaccurate comments on multiple occasions. Dale then laid out a series of eight examples of the @KamalaHQ account doing just that. In the first case, they edited video of Trump to make it appear as though he had forgotten where he was. The @KamalaHQ account made a similar post last week, claiming again that Trump had forgotten what state he was in. This time, unedited footage showed that he was clearly referencing the migrant crisis affecting Pennsylvania during a rally in Arizona. The full video showed Trump clearly stating that he was not referring to the neo-Nazis or the counterprotestors who killed Heather Heyer, but  to his own comment about there being “fine people on both sides” — which he and numerous outlets, CNN included, have said did not include white nationalists. Of the 11 times, I don’t think he had the right to correct me at all. Didn’t correct her once. Like on Project 2025, I have no idea about — had nothing to do with me, he didn’t correct her, he knew that,” Trump said. “Charlottesville — nothing was done wrong. All you had to do is read my statement one more sentence and you would’ve seen that. Sean Hannity, Laura Ingraham, Jesse (Watters), all of them, they — Greg Gutfeld — they all took that and they corrected it many times. But they keep coming with the same lies.” And while Harris’ campaign did not respond to CNN on the first two examples, they did attempt to defend the Charlottesville reference. “He’s saying he did ‘nothing wrong’ in relation to him saying ‘very fine people’ who did what is described in the tweet,” the campaign said in an email. A fourth example showed the account deceptively editing a comment from vice presidential candidate and Senator JD Vance (R-OH) regarding veterans’ health care. Right? So let’s say you’re in a rural hospital. Your closest VA is 120 miles away. Why force a veteran to drive two-and-a-half hours to that VA facility when he can get cheaper and good care right in his backyard? Right? So I do think that we ought to open up choice and optionality for veterans. You know, I think that there is areas where the VA actually works very well, so I wouldn’t say get rid of the whole thing. I would say give people more choice, I think you’ll save money in the process, you’ll also give veterans a lot more optionality.” Harris’ campaign also pushed back on this fact-check, claiming that they never said he meant to privatize everything. But as Dale noted, they still cut off the video before he explained exactly what he intended to “consider,” suggesting that the privatization of all veterans’ care was the only thing on the table. Dale outlined four additional examples, each of which involved @KamalaHQ either posting video clips without relevant context or overtly mischaracterizing things that Trump said in order to attack him.

Venezuelan authorities arrested three U.S. citizens and three Europeans on Saturday in connection with an alleged assassination plot against President Nicolás Maduro. Venezuelan Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello announced the arrests, which included two Spaniards and a Czech national, on state television and accused the suspects of taking part in a U.S.-led assassination plot against Maduro and several other members of the Venezuelan government, according to Politico Europe. “These groups seek to seize the country’s wealth, and we as a government will respond firmly to any destabilization attempt,” Cabello said, according to Reuters. The minister said that authorities seized hundreds of rifles that originated in the United States, as well. The U.S. State Department spokesman confirmed that a member of the U.S. military had been detained in Venezuela and said the department was aware of reports of two other U.S. citizens being detained. The State Department denied any involvement in a plot to assassinate the Venezuelan government. “Any claims of U.S. involvement in a plot to overthrow Maduro are categorically false. The United States continues to support a democratic solution to the political crisis in Venezuela,” a State Department spokesman said, according to NPR. “We are seeking additional information. We are closely monitoring the situation,” the spokesman added. The United States has pressured Maduro to step down as president after a contentious July 28 election. Voting tallies published online by the opposition campaign showed the Venezuelan strongman losing the election in a landslide, though Maduro and the Venezuelan government have said those election tallies were forged. The Venezuelan Supreme Court, largely filled by Maduro loyalists, declared Maduro the winner of the election. The United States government has reportedly discussed offering Maduro and his top allies amnesty if the Venezuelan president will cede power. The Biden administration has denied those reports. The controversy over the election sparked widespread demonstrations in Venezuela, prompting a backlash from the government that reportedly left dozens dead and hundreds more injured. Last week, the U.S. announced sanctions on 16 top officials in Maduro’s government following the contested election as tensions between Washington and Caracas continue to increase.

Sen. JD Vance (R-OH) unloaded on CNN’s Dana Bash during an interview on Sunday over her obvious left-wing bias when she blamed him for bomb threats and repeatedly interrupted him as he tried to answer her questions. The intense exchange, which left Bash visibly miffed, happened on the network’s “State of the Union” show as Bash brought up recent claims that have swirled on social media about Haitian migrants eating pets and wildlife in the town of Springfield, Ohio. “Instead of saying things that are wrong and actually causing the hospitals, the schools, the government buildings to be evacuated because of bomb threats because of the cats and dogs thing, why not actually be constructive and helping to better integrate them into the community?” Bash asked. Vance responded, “Dana, first of all, let me just respond to a couple of things that you said. But I want to start with something you said, which I think is, frankly, disgusting and is more appropriate for a Democratic propagandist than it is for an American journalist.” “There is nothing that I have said that has led to threats against these hospitals,” he said. “These hospitals, the bomb threats and so forth, it’s disgusting. The violence is disgusting. We condemn it. We condemn all violence and threats of violence.” Bash then repeatedly interrupted Vance to try to cement her argument that he was responsible for the bomb threats. “What we have said is that this town has suffered terribly under the problem — under the policies of Kamala Harris. Now, you just accused me of inciting violence against the community, when all that I have done is surface the complaints of my constituents, people who are suffering because of Kamala Harris’ policies,” Vance said. “Are we not allowed to talk about these problems because some psychopaths are threatening violence? We can condemn the violence on the one hand, but also talk about the terrible consequences of Kamala Harris’ open border on the other hand.” A few moments later, Bash proceeded to enter a full debate against Vance and continued to interrupt him as he tried to answer her questions. “Dana, would you like to ask me questions and then let me answer them, or would you like to debate me on these topics?” Vance asked. “I noticed that when you had Kamala Harris and Tim Walz, you gave them multiple choice answers to the questions that you asked and you allowed them to answer the questions. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) warned over the weekend that the threat environment that the U.S. faces at home and abroad is so severe under the Biden-Harris administration that the U.S. is “living on borrowed time” before another 9/11 attack happens. The remarks from Graham, which happened during a Fox News interview on Sunday morning, come after numerous top U.S. officials have made similar statements over the last couple of years in light of the how the world has been significantly more dangerous since Trump left office. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis discussed his efforts over the weekend to make sure that his state has the most secure elections in the country this fall. DeSantis told “Sunday Morning Futures” host Maria Bartiromo on Fox News that the state has banned ballot harvesting and imposed serious penalties for offenders. “We require photo ID in order to vote,” he said. “We’ve banned the use of Zuckerbucks, and we’ve been aggressive at policing the voter rolls so that we have accurate voter rolls, and when people have run afoul of our election laws, this election crimes unit we’ve created has been able to investigate, refer these people to prosecution, and you’ve had over 50 people just in the last couple years that have been convicted of various types of voter fraud.” “In the state of Florida, we require voter ID,” he continued. “We also prohibit issuing any type of photo ID to illegal aliens, no driver’s license, no local government IDs, no private organizations are allowed to issue illegals photo ID, and we don’t recognize out of state licenses or any type of ID for illegals. What that means is it’s almost impossible for an illegal to register to vote. In some of these states where they do issue those ID cards, they can go in, and there’s really no check of the citizenship that has been done. So we’ve been very aggressive in ensuring that only US citizens are on the voter rolls. When we’ve identified people that have voted illegally who are not US citizens, we have brought prosecutions against them.” He said that Democrats “oppose voter ID because they want there to be illegal votes. Former President Donald Trump “is safe” after gunfire was reported nearby in Florida, his campaign announced on Sunday. “Multiple shots fired at Trump National Golf Club in West Palm Beach where the former president is golfing today,” POLITICO’s Meridith McGraw reported on X. Steven Cheung, Trump’s campaign communications director, said in a brief statement, “President Trump is safe following gunshots in his vicinity. No further details at this time.” Law enforcement sources told the New York Post that two people exchanged gunfire outside the club, targeting each other and not Trump. The report, citing the same insiders, emphasized that Trump was “never in danger” and the shooting happened in an area outside the clip known for lots of crime. In mid-July, a shooter opened fire on Trump while he was speaking to a crowd during an outdoor campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. The former president survived, though he was grazed in his right ear by a bullet. One rallygoer, 50-year-old fireman Corey Comperatore, was killed. Two other attendees were wounded.
