New Jersey Hunter Reported BIGFOOT ATTACK in New Jersey's Pine Barrens

A witness has come forward saying he believes it was a Bigfoot that attacked him and his three brothers, in Southampton Township, Burlington County, New Jersey. In an account carried on the website BFRO.net (Bigfoot Research Organization), Chris Ruediger claims that a Bigfoot screamed and charged at them from a nearby swamp, while they were deer hunting.Ruediger says they were in the woods near Routes 70 and 206, hunting near a logging road. It was nighttime and he said:"Something started screaming and charging at us from the swamp. It would charge at us and then stop. You could feel the ground it was big. We had flashlights but they stayed out of sight. When it screamed at us it was so loud it went through you. It was charging and breaking branches and moving around."Ruediger says they had their guns ready and would have shot if they could clearly have identified whatever it was.He says whatever it was kept charging, screaming, then backed off.Ruediger says he and his brothers were all intimidated by what they saw, but they've never spoken about it since. He says his relationship with his brothers is not close. Here's the kicker - this incident happened back in December of 2001. There's no mention as to why the witness didn't come forward until now.According to BFRO Investigator Jacob Korbel, there is no native-to-New-Jersey animal that would do the kind of stalking mentioned above. https://catcountry1073.com/bigfoot-nj-pine-barrens/NOTE: Thanks to Eric Mintel for bringing this account to my attention. The Pine Barrens and Wharton State Forest are well-known for cryptid activity, in particular Bigfoot, cryptid canines, and, of course, the Jersey Devil. BLACK-EYED 'ALTERNATE REALM' TRAVELER? Eyewitness Sensed Overwhelming Malevolence!

BLACK-EYED 'ALTERNATE REALM' TRAVELER? Eyewitness Sensed Overwhelming Malevolence!

A possible 'alternate being' is reported by the witness, who was extremely frightened by a feeling of evil that was overwhelming. Then it suddenly vanished. What could this have been?I received the following account:"I had a disturbing experience when I was younger. My family was on a day trip by car and we stopped at a fast food restaurant to eat in San Diego, CA. We walk in and immediately I was overcome with a 'sense' of extreme dread and fear. I soon noticed a man eating by himself. He was pale-skinned and wearing a white pull-over shirt. He also had on a yellow knitted cap. The hair was sticking out of it as if he had been wearing this for a long period of time. I was extremely frightened with a feeling of evil that was overwhelming. His looks didn't alarm me, but his aura was ominous. I immediate lost my appetite because of my sense of terror. I couldn't help but look over at this man. He was also moving in very slow and deliberate. As I looked closer, his fingernails were long and bluish in color. His eyes were black, which stood out against his pale skin.I tried to get my parents to notice but they continued talking. Apparently no one else was picking up this vibration of malevolence. Eventually I abruptly interrupted their conversation and said, 'Look at that man over there,' while nodding in his direction. My father turned and said 'Which man?' That quickly, the strange man had disappeared. There was no trace of him. I had only taken my eyes off of him for a few seconds. He simply vanished. I still felt his presence. In fact, I felt like he was near me for the rest of the day.I have never had that same feeling since that day, but I know I have seen the same strange man on several occasions. I truly believe that the he was actually there and that he somehow disappeared into an alternate realm. As well, I think that he continues to do so. Could he be sending me or others a message?" Looking for a project to help get him nearer to his title of Eagle Scout, and despite having little experience in carpentry, 14-year-old Simon Starnes got to work. Click to Skip Ahead Mission Day-to-Day Experience Challenges & Rewards Future Stories Support Veterinarians, vet technicians, practice managers, rescuers, behaviorists, nutritionists, trainers, volunteers, and other animal professionals are the backbone of pet ownership. Helping pets and their families live in harmony and health together. Catster wants to highlight some of these underrated champions of the animal world—who we like to refer to as Heroes of The Pet World. We will interview some of the most inspiring vet clinics, animal hospitals, animal shelters, and rehabilitation organizations around the world to share all the wonderful and oftentimes harsh experiences they face while working to help, heal, guide, revitalize, and protect our furry family members. These are the stories of unsung animal superheroes! Meet Professor Chris Tan, a Specialist in Surgery at SASH Alexandria and Hospital Director. Mission In your own words, what is the Small Animal Specialist Hospital’s mission and purpose? SASH’s mission is to help pets and their families live their best life. This is achieved through our unique combination of multidisciplinary 24/7 emergency and specialist veterinary care, world-class facilities and total commitment to our patients and their families. What is your individual mission or goal, as a vet professional and as a person? I am passionate about all areas of veterinary surgery, especially orthopaedics and education. My goal is to develop the next generation of highly skilled specialist surgeons in Australia and across the world and to improve patient outcomes. Day-to-Day Experience What is it like being a vet professional in Australia and at the Small Animal Specialist Hospital? Being a vet is something that I had always wanted to do and brings new challenges everyday. There is nothing quite like the feeling of seeing sick or injured patients being returned to their owners after making a full recovery. Here at SASH I feel very lucky to work alongside experts in a wide range of disciplines. So I feel comfortable that we are always providing the highest level of care possible. How big is your team? The SASH Alexandria team is almost 100 people strong. This includes our amazing veterinarians, nurses, client services, and support team members who work around the clock to make sure the hospital runs seamlessly. Do you have staffing shortages and how do you deal with them? In general the veterinary industry in Australia, and many parts of the world is experiencing staff shortages. However, we are fortunate at SASH Alexandria to be in a very strong position. We find that many talented people within the vet industry choose to work for SASH because of our reputation and proven track record of high quality of veterinary care. How many animals on average do you help on a weekly basis? We see between 100 and 200 cases per week at SASH Alexandria. Challenges and Rewards What is the hardest part of your job? How do you handle euthanasia and patient loss? The hardest part of my job is balancing my busy schedule of being a Specialist Surgeon while also providing leadership, as Hospital Co-Director to an exceptionally high performing team. Euthanasia and patient loss is never easy. However, I am thankful that as a surgeon, outcomes in my field are generally positive. What are some of the biggest challenges that your organization faces? For a relatively new hospital like SASH Alexandria, our biggest challenge is awareness of our services. Lots of local pet owners don’t know we’re here 24/7. What is the most rewarding part of doing what you guys do? The most rewarding part of my job is sending home a mended patient to their loving family. We’re really fortunate to be able to work with some of the loveliest and very dedicated owners. Future What are SASH’s main goals for the future? One of our goals is to always innovate and focus on ways to improve patient outcomes. This means investing in our people, facilities, and looking for opportunities for How can the general public help make your lives easier? We always recommend making sure your pet gets veterinary treatment in a timely manner. Delaying veterinarian care can be problematic, especially if you notice something isn’t quite right. Regular check ups with your local veterinarian are essential for picking up any issues that may be present and for keeping your pet up-to-date with preventative health. If you are concerned about something after-hours, a 24/7 facility like SASH Alexandria is always available to see your pet. Stories What are some of the funniest or most outrageous pet names you’ve encountered? One day we had a “Harry Potter” and “Hagrid” in the hospital with us at the same time so it felt more like Hogwarts! How to Support If someone wants to visit, join, support, or volunteer at the New Era Veterinary Hospital, where can they find more information and get in touch? If anyone needs emergency or specialist veterinary services, we are open 24/7, 365 days of the year. Our contact details can be found on www.sashvets.com. There, they can also find information about career opportunities within SASH. Anything else you’d like to tell the pet community? SASH Alexandria has been growing its services and offerings greatly since we first opened in 2023. We are now proud to offer 24/7 emergency & critical care, surgery, internal medicine, dermatology, oncology, and reproduction. Please feel free to get in touch if you would like to find out more about any of these specialist veterinary services. All the New Science Fiction Books Arriving in September 2024

Books new releases All the New Science Fiction Books Arriving in September 2024 This month’s new SF titles feature colony ships, monasteries, space stations, and prison colonies… By Reactor | Published on September 10, 2024 Comment 0 Share New Share Here’s the full list of new science fiction titles heading your way in September! Keep track of all the new SFF releases here. All title summaries are taken and/or summarized from copy provided by the publisher. Release dates are subject to change. September 3 Mountain of Fire (Black Tide Rising #13) — Jason Cordova (Baen)When the lights went out, humanity died. But from darkness came hope. The surviving students at St. Dominic’s Preparatory School for Girls have had it rough since the H7D3 virus virtually wiped out human civilization. Between rampaging hordes of zombies and wannabe tinpot dictators, the only thing holding them together is the iron will of the school’s lone surviving nun, Sister Ann. They know how to survive, but rebuilding isn’t only about surviving—it’s about rising up. As more survivors start to seek asylum at the isolated school, it becomes readily apparent that the school can be the anvil from which humanity is reforged. To achieve this, though, the survivors must rely on one another to rebuild. The flames of life will be fanned, and the sparks from every strike of the hammer will provide light in the darkness. But it will not be easy. From atop the mountain of fire, this beacon of hope must spread—or humanity will die quietly in the long, final night. Under the Eye of the Big Bird — Hiromi Kawakami, tr. Asa Yoneda (Softskull)In the distant future, humans are on the verge of extinction and have settled in small tribes across the planet under the observation and care of “Mothers.” Some children are made in factories, from cells of rabbits and dolphins; some live by getting nutrients from water and light, like plants. The survival of the race depends on the interbreeding of these and other alien beings—but it is far from certain that connection, love, reproduction, and evolution will persist among the inhabitants of this faltering new world. Vigilance (Fractal #3) — Allen Stroud (Flame Tree Press)In the aftermath of Phobos Station’s destruction, sinister forces fight to control humanity’s fragile first steps in colonizing other worlds. There are competing agendas at work. Some seek to overthrow the Corporations and Governments, others just want to see everything burn. In the midst of it all, Captain Ellisa Shann and her crew are fighting to survive and to unlock the secrets of a mysterious and ancient alien ship. Vigilance is the conclusion to the epic science fiction story that began with Fearless and continued with Resilient. What new revelations await in the ongoing Fractal Series? Rebel (Ascent to Empire #2) — David Weber, Richard Fox (Baen)The Five Hundred, the elite families who rule the Terran Federation, control its political power and its wealth, and they’ve grown steadily wealthier and more powerful, thanks to the war against the Terran League. War may be hard on the people who get caught in its path, but it’s very good for business, in the short term, and the Five Hundred own the shipyards that build the Navy’s ships. They own virtually all the industry that produces the weapons and matériel the war consumes so voraciously… and they’ve made damn sure someone else does the dying. True, there are a few flies in the Five Hundred’s ointment. There’s the growing hatred and resentment of the Fringe Worlds, whose children do eighty percent of the dying in the Five Hundred’s war. But the Five Hundred have made sure the Fringe knows what will happen to any system that goes ”out of compliance.” There are the lunatic conspiracy nuts who insist that the alien Rishathan Sphere is secretly aiding the League’s military, but the Five Hundred have forced them to keep their mouths shut where it matters. And then there’s Terrence Murphy, a man of honor who loves the Federation, who springs from the Five Hundred, yet knows it for what it is and is determined to speak for its victims. But the five hundred have dispatched ample force to deal with him and his handful of lunatic followers. Unfortunately, the Fringe has paid enough of its children’s lives, and it no longer cares what may happen if it dares to defy the Five Hundred. Worse, the lunatic conspiracy nuts were right, and the Rish have planned carefully for the Federation’s destruction. And, worst of all, the Five Hundred have fatally underestimated Terrence Murphy. Out of the Drowning Deep — A. C. Wise (Titan)Scribe IV is an obsolete automaton living on the Bastion, a secluded monastery in an abandoned corner of the galaxy. When the visiting Pope is found murdered, Scribe IV knows he has very little time before the terrifying Sisters of the Drowned Deep rise up to punish all the Bastion’s residents for their supposed crime. Quin, a recovering drug addict turned private investigator, agrees to take the case. Traumatized by a bizarre experience in his childhood, Quin repeatedly feeds his memories to his lover, the angel Murmuration. But fragmented glimpses of an otherworldly horror he calls the crawling dark continue to haunt his dreams. Meanwhile in heaven, an angel named Angel hears Scribe IV’s prayer. Intrigued by the idea of solving a crime with mortals, xe descends to offer xyr divine assistance. With the Drowned Sisters closing in, Scribe IV, Quin, and Angel race to find out who really murdered the Pope, and why. Quin’s missing memories may hold the key to the case—but is remembering worth what it will cost him? September 10 Sky Full of Elephants — Cebo Campbell (Simon & Schuster)One day, a cataclysmic event occurs: all of the white people in America walk into the nearest body of water. A year later, Charlie Brunton is a Black man living in an entirely new world. Having served time in prison for a wrongful conviction, he’s now a professor of electric and solar power systems at Howard University when he receives a call from someone he wasn’t even sure existed: his daughter Sidney, a nineteen-year-old left behind by her white mother and step-family. Traumatized by the event, and terrified of the outside world, Sidney has spent a year in isolation in Wisconsin. Desperate for help, she turns to the father she never met, a man she has always resented. Sidney and Charlie meet for the first time as they embark on a journey across a truly “post-racial” America in search for answers. But neither of them are prepared for this new world and how they see themselves in it. Heading south toward what is now called the Kingdom of Alabama, everything Charlie and Sidney thought they knew about themselves, and the world, will be turned upside down. Brimming with heart and humor, Cebo Campbell’s astonishing debut novel is about the power of community and connection, about healing and self-actualization, and a reckoning with what it means to be Black in America, in both their world and ours. Deep Black (Arcana Imperii #2) — Miles Cameron (Mobius) Marca Nbaro had always dreamed of serving aboard the Greatships, with their vast cargo holds and a crew that could fill a city. They are the lifeblood of human-occupied space, transporting an unimaginable volume—and value—of goods from City, the greatest human orbital, all the way to Tradepoint at the other, to trade for xenoglas with an unknowable alien species. And now, out in the darkness of space, something is targeting them. Nbaro and her friends are close to locating their enemy, in this gripping sequel to the award-nominated Artifact Space, but they are running out of time—and their allies are running out of patience. Countess — Suzan Palumbo (ECW Press)Virika Sameroo lives in colonized space under the Æcerbot Empire, much like her ancestors before her in the British West Indies. After years of working hard to rise through the ranks of the empire’s merchant marine, she’s finally become first lieutenant on an interstellar cargo vessel. When her captain dies under suspicious circumstances, Virika is arrested for murder and charged with treason despite her lifelong loyalty to the empire. Her conviction and subsequent imprisonment set her on a path of revenge, determined to take down the evil empire that wronged her, all while the fate of her people hangs in the balance. No/Mad/Land — Francesco Verso, tr. Sally McCorry (Flame Tree Press)The Pulldogs leave Rome to embrace a new condition: leaving no trace of their passage, they shape a new challenging lifestyle: wandering around the world as neo-nomads to spread their solarpunk way of living and to engage on a never-ending mission to save endangered human cultures with nanites. But the vision of Alan and Nicolas about how the Pulldogs should live collide, and as a consequence, they split in two groups: one goes North to live in the beautiful wilderness of Siberia and Mongolia, while the other goes South to save the Dogon tribe from a possible extinction due to climate change in Central Africa. But at the end everybody—including a new generation of Pulldogs—will have to come back to Rome, where their incredible transformation started many years before. Sequel to the celebrated The Roamers. September 17 Exodus: The Archimedes Engine (Exodus 1) — Peter F. Hamilton (Random House Worlds)Forty thousand years ago, humanity fled a dying Earth. Traveling in massive arkships, these brave pioneers spread out across the galaxy to find a new home. After traveling thousands of light-years, one fleet of arkships arrived at Centauri, a dense cluster of stars with a vast array of potentially habitable planets. The survivors of Earth signaled to the remaining arkships that humanity had finally found its new home among the stars. Thousands of years later, the Centauri Cluster has flourished. The original settlers have evolved into advanced beings known as Celestials and divided themselves into powerful Dominions. One of the most influential is that of the Crown Celestials, an alliance of five great houses that controls vast areas of Centauri. As arkships continue to arrive, the remaining humans and their descendants must fight for survival against overwhelming odds or be forced into serving the Crown Dominion. Among those yearning for a better life is Finn, for whom Earth is not a memory but merely a footnote from humanity’s ancient history. Born on one of the Crown Dominion worlds, Finn has known nothing but the repressive rule of the Celestials, though he dreams of the possibility of boundless space beyond his home. When another arkship from Earth, previously thought lost, unexpectedly arrives, Finn sees his chance to embrace a greater destiny and become a Traveler—one of a group of brave heroes dedicated to ensuring humanity’s future by journeying into the vast unknown of distant space. Ultra 85 — Logic (Simon & Schuster)In the year 2115, when the Earth is no longer inhabitable, the remainder of humanity lives in Babel, a giant space station. Two pilots, Quentin and Kai, must find the planet Paradise, where only the most promising citizens are allowed to live. On their journey, Quentin and Kai encounter Quentin’s estranged father, who left Babel for Paradise when Quentin was a child, and they discover just how different Paradise is from what they imagined—and how they must change it for the better. Alien Clay — Adrian Tchaikovsky (Orbit)The planet of Kiln is where the tyrannical Mandate keeps its prison colony, and for inmates, the journey there is always a one-way trip. One such prisoner is Professor Arton Daghdev, xeno-ecologist and political dissident. Soon after arrival, he discovers that Kiln has a secret. Humanity is not the first intelligent life to set foot there. In the midst of a ravenous, chaotic ecosystem are the ruins of a civilization, but who were the vanished builders and where did they go? If he can survive both the harsh rule of the camp commandant and the alien horrors of the world around him, then Arton has a chance at making a discovery that might just transform not only Kiln, but distant Earth as well. September 24 Darkside (Planetside #4) — Michael Mammay (Harper Voyager)Colonel Butler has paid his dues and just wants to enjoy his retirement on a remote planet. But the galaxy has had other plans.  He has been roped into searching for a politician’s missing son and an industry magnate’s missing daughter. He has been kidnapped, violated numerous laws, and caused the destruction of colonial facilities. He’s famous—or infamous, depending on who you ask—praised and reviled in equal measure across the galaxy for his exploits. And he is determined to never let the government drag him into another investigation. But when a runaway twelve-year-old girl whose father has gone missing asks him for help, well… it’s a lot harder to say no. The girl’s father, Jorge Ramiro, was supposed to have been on Taug, a moon orbiting the gas giant Ridia 5, working on a dig with a famous archaeologist. But now there’s no sign of him and no record of him being there. Mining operations on the moon are run by two different consortiums, Caliber and Omicron—both of which have tried to kill Butler in the past. Butler doesn’t believe in coincidence. Landing on Taug with his right-hand man Mac, computer genius Ganos, and an elite security squad, Butler soon finds that they’ve charged back into the crosshairs—because Ramiro is not the only who has disappeared, and the perpetual darkside of this moon is hiding more than the truth about a missing archeologist Rumor Has It (Disco Space Opera #3) — Cat Rambo (Tor Books)The crew of the You Sexy Thing have laid a course for Coralind Station, hoping the station’s famed gardens will provide an opportunity to regroup, recoup, and mourn their losses while while finding a way to track down their enemy, pirate king Tubal Last. All Niko wants to do is pry their insurance money from the bank and see if an old friend might be able to help them find Last. Unfortunately, old friends and enemies aren’t the only unreliable elements awaiting her and the crew at Coralind. Each will have to face themselves—the good and the bad—in order to come together before they lose everything. Space Oddity (Space Opera #2) — Catherynne M. Valente (Saga)The Metagalactic Grand Prix—part gladiatorial contest, part beauty pageant, part concert extravaganza, and part continuation of the wars of the past returns and the fate of the Earth is once again threatened. The civilizations opposed to humanity have been plotting and want to take down the upstarts. Can humanity rise again in this sequel to the beloved Hugo Award–nominated national bestselling Space Opera by New York Times bestselling author Catherynne M. Valente? Read an Excerpt From Sara Raasch’s The Nightmare Before Kissmas

Excerpts romantasy Read an Excerpt From Sara Raasch’s The Nightmare Before Kissmas A sexy, quirky rom-com where the golden-hearted Prince of Christmas falls for the totally off-limits Prince of Halloween… By Sara Raasch | Published on September 10, 2024 Comment 0 Share New Share We’re thrilled to share an excerpt from The Nightmare Before Kissmas by Sara Raasch, a new romantasy novel publishing with Bramble on October 8th. Nicholas “Coal” Claus used to love Christmas. Until his father, the reigning Santa, turned the holiday into a PR façade. Coal will do anything to escape the spectacle, including getting tangled in a drunken, supremely hot make-out session with a beautiful man behind a seedy bar one night. But the heir to Christmas is soon commanded to do his duty: he will marry his best friend, Iris, the Easter Princess and his brother’s not-so-secret crush. A situation that has disaster written all over it.Things go from bad to worse when a rival arrives to challenge Coal for the princess’s hand… and Coal comes face-to-face with his mysterious behind-the-bar hottie: Hex, the Prince of Halloween. “I hate him.” “Pretty sure I initiated you into that club years ago.” Iris leans on me to adjust her shoe. “I didn’t sign up for that. You and Kris complain—well, you complain—but I always tried to give him the benefit of the doubt. I never wanted to hate Santa.” I throw a glance over the crowd. This part of Claus Palace is packed with the same group from the Merry Measure tree trimming, all decked out as befitting Christmas at, well, Christmas, only the background is now our massive ballroom. Heavy, deep brown wood adorns the walls, giving the feel of a ski lodge with greenery strung through the rafters and two enormous fireplaces on either end of the room gilding everything and making the air smell woodsy and cozy. The only imperfection in the scene is the reporters still lurking at the edges of the ballroom. I willfully put my back to them. Iris and I are off to the side on a stage where a full orchestra usually sits, and it’s easy enough to make it so I only see her and the rear wall of windows that caps off the ballroom. Her look of disbelief is puckered, like I’m stretching to make a point. “So he has the white beard and dresses in red because…” “It’s my dad. It’s a publicity stunt. But he’s not Santa. He’s the King of Christmas. The ideal of Santa exists beyond all of us.” My tone dips, and that makes her frown at me in mild confusion. I know I don’t often get serious, but it shouldn’t be that surprising. “He’s Santa the way you’re the Easter Bunny.” Iris cracks a smile. “Don’t blow my cover, Claus. I work hard to hide my werebunny transformations from you.” She makes claws with her fingers and hisses at me. “We are, need I remind you”—I’m grinning—“currently at a party to welcome a suitor for you, costumed up into believable facsimiles of functioning adults. Don’t blow our cover, Lentora.” She drops her hands with an eyeroll. “You used to be fun.” “You’re upset that I won’t hiss at you in public?” “Yes.” “Sorry, I was too distracted picturing a feral fanged rabbit breaking into little kids’ bedrooms and pilfering their carefully situated pastel baskets.” She straightens, playing for righteous, but her eyes sparkle. “Well, maybe the next time you try to start something silly and fun, I’ll be too distracted imagining you as Santa, which is honestly a far more horrifying mental picture.” My head jerks back on an instinctive recoil. I’ve never really imagined myself as Santa either despite knowing I was born into the role, but for some reason Iris’s easy dismissal of me in that position… hurts. More than it should. I’m sure as hell nothing like my dad, but I’m nothing like the jolly, loving, boundlessly joyful visage of the mythical Santa figure either. So her flippancy isn’t misplaced. And it shouldn’t be unsettling. Iris closes her eyes and scrunches her face. “Like right now. I’m trying to picture it and—oh my god. You look terrible in red.” “Hilarious.” And honestly, well documented; we’ve established that ruddy hues are not my color. “No, seriously.” She holds a hand to her mouth. “It’s grotesque—” Kris bounds up onto the stage. “What’s grotesque?” Iris opens her eyes and bats her hand at me. “Your brother as Santa.” “Well, yeah.” Kris sizes me up. “He’s too skinny.” Now this time I let my offense show. “I’ve been doing those weight training videos you sent me!” He squints. Sizes me up again. “You have?” “Fuck you.” Kris grins and looks back at Iris. “They’ll be here in ten minutes.” She spins on me. “How do I look?” She’s in a lavender dress that’s all descending layers of tulle with clusters of flowers stitched at random intervals. Half of her box braids are looped through a flower crown of tulips and daisies, and in this very Christmas room full of very Christmas people, she’s a riot of springtime and renewal and freshness. But I don’t tell her any of that and squint at her. “You care?” “Of course I care, I always care. When this whole thing blows up in our faces, it will not be because of anything I did. I will be perfect. Now, Kris”—she twists her question to him, probably realizing I won’t give her a straight answer and rightly so because it is super messed up that she would equate her physical appearance to being perfect—“how do I look?” Kris goes as red as the checkerboard print blankets draped over the chairs in the ballroom’s alcoves. But before I can decide whether to intervene, he looks up and down her body. “Perfect,” he says softly. Iris must miss his tone, because she says only “Thank you” pointedly, then looks at me. “That’s how you respond when a woman asks how she looks.” Kris gets an odd expression, eyes still on her profile where she’s looking at me, but he doesn’t seem hurt or rebuffed—it’s more of a well huh. That didn’t work. He’s always handled her obliviousness rather gallantly for someone who proclaims to be in love with her. “Next time,” I say to Iris, “I will release a sonnet to your beauty.” She nods, satisfied. “About damn time, Claus.” “With all the pomp and extravagance of a Taylor Swift midnight single drop.” “You know, when you say things like that, it’s hard to take your adoration seriously.” Dad comes up onto the stage, trailed by Neo, as Easter-y as his daughter in pastels and flowers. He ushers Iris away—since his announcement three days ago followed sharply by another announcement of Oh, and now Halloween is vying for Iris’s hand too, isn’t that quaint, he and my dad have kept the two of us out of as many photos together as possible to avoid, quote unquote, “playing favorites.” Even though one of the contenders is also the host of this little competition and has already basically won. Yeah, it’s definitely going to be fair. Iris wasn’t concerned about how that change of plans looked to Easter. She said her father was certain it would only make their family look desirable. Which made my nose curl, but Iris had shrugged and changed the subject, and I can’t shake the persistent itch that there’s shit she’s not sharing with me. Important shit, important to her. My eyes dart over the ballroom again, at the individual chatting groups as they munch on hors d’oeuvres. I think back on what Iris said, about losing the trust of our people by backing out on our announced relationship. But none of these people would be concerned about shifting alliances, would they? It wouldn’t negatively affect their lives. They’ll carry on being the noble houses of Christmas no matter what happens. What do the thousands of people out in North Pole City think? What story is Dad feeding them? I should find it within myself to start reading the tabloids again. Now that’s a horrifying image. I tug on the sleeves of my suit jacket. I sent Wren a thank-you gift for the nice blue suit at the tree trimming, and she responded with this number, an azure blazer done with baroque filigree in gold and green. I look fine as hell in it—Christmas Prince, I see no Christmas Prince, just a runway model. Iris is center stage with our fathers. Dad is in a vibrant red suit, Santa but make it Versace, and the three of them turn forward. One of our staff pounds on the floor at the rear of the ballroom, yanking all attention to the doors as they open. The energy of the ballroom shifts. That hunter-level intent I usually feel directed at me and Kris is now pinned on a trio of people, trailed by half a dozen of their staff. An enormous cloud of smoke pours in behind them, a shifting gray-black whorl that dissolves them into nothing more than silhouettes. There are no cries of alarm, so I’m guessing this is all part of their entrance and what I can only hope is passive-aggressive retaliation for the way Dad displayed our magic when just the Halloween envoys were here. My eyes cut to Dad’s profile, and at the sight of his barely suppressed scowl, I don’t even try to hide my smirk. The smoke undulates and shapeless shadows begin darting in and out of the silhouettes, the barest suggestion of something other lurking in the mist. It would be sufficiently “This Is Halloween,” but then a crackle of lightning skitters through the smoke, flashing sickly yellow light on a face here, a disembodied smile there. The Christmas crowd jumps, a few people letting loose startled laughter. Kris is one of the people who jumps, but he doesn’t laugh. “Fucking hell,” he mutters. I spider-walk my fingers up the back of his arm. He jumps again before cursing and batting me away. The smoke fades in graceful corkscrews to reveal the people behind the silhouettes, now halfway into the ballroom. If we’re clinging to the whole Christmas theme, then they’re clinging to a gothic Halloween vibe. No one in their group has a pop of color among their form-fitting black gowns, their sleek onyx suits. Except for— I’d thought about researching the Halloween royal family out of a morbid curiosity to see who my Dad is trying to fake-matchmake Iris with. She said she knew who the prince was, or had seen pictures of him at least, and refused to delve any deeper—but I’d never needed to care about anyone outside of Christmas and the Holidays Dad interacts most with, like Easter and Valentine’s Day. Halloween doesn’t allow paparazzi to the extent we do, lucky bastards, so any research would’ve required a dive into specialized Holiday sites, but every time I sat down to do it, I got super paranoid that Dad would check my browser history. And then I realized that yeah, he definitely has people tracking our browser history when we’re staying at the palace, and that idea was mind-numbingly nauseating because I am, in some iterations of myself, a twenty-two-year-old guy with twenty-two-year-old guy hobbies. But I really, really should’ve risked it and fucking done even a single fucking minute of fucking research because now I’m standing on this stage and half of my mind is screaming at me to inhale but I legitimately cannot remember what muscles that act uses, and the other half of my mind is ravenously consumed with staring at the Halloween Prince. The last time I saw him, I had his tongue in my mouth outside a bar in New Haven. He’d just simplified one of my biggest unanswerable questions and then I kissed him and he vanished and I really had started to think I’d made him up, a fever dream brought on by vodka and regret. But he’s here, he’s real, and he’s disastrously hot, wearing a goddamn corset vest. The satiny black vest has vertical ribs that taper his chest into his waist in the very definition of a perfect V. I want nothing more than to drop to my knees and weep, good lord how I have never seen a corset vest before—I mean, I’ve seen one, but I’ve never seen one, not on someone whose body looks physically sculpted to fill out this apex of human fashion. He’s got the only pop of color in the entire group, a scarlet silk button-up under the vest, the color such a deep red that there’s no question it’s meant to symbolize gore and darkness rather than Christmas’s cherry brightness. Tight black pants taper into calf-high combat boots and the tips of his black hair now brush his shoulders, half the strands pulled behind his head, showing—displaying— the blade-edge sharpness of his jaw and cheekbones and the array of piercings up the shell of his left ear. Wide, observant dark eyes rimmed with black liner go from the floor up to my dad and Iris, no emotion at all on his face, but that lack of emotion is reaction enough—I get the distinct feeling he’s pissed to be here. His hands hang at his sides, loosely clenched in fists, most of his fingers set with thick silver rings. “The royal house of Halloween,” an announcer bellows. “King Ichabod Hallow. Queen Carina Hallow. And their son Prince Hex Hallow.” His name rebounds in my head, cracking into the parts of my body that have gone immobile, and against every rational thought—I have no rational thoughts, none, not in this moment—I remember how to inhale and I gasp. Loudly. Attention swings to me. Dad, glaring; Iris, confused; Kris, like I’ve lost my mind, and I have, because Hex is looking at me now. And he doesn’t seem at all surprised that I’m here, even if there is a beat of recognition; he just emits that same capped fury. He’s here to fake-compete with me over Iris. And will be staying in Claus Palace until Christmas Eve to keep Halloween appeased until Iris and I can get married. And is at this moment cocking one slender eyebrow and just the contact of his eyes on me yanks forward the memory of his lips beneath mine and fire crawls across my body. Oh, no. Oh no no noooo— Dad turns back to the Halloween contingent. “Welcome to Christmas,” he booms. Excerpted from The Nightmare Before Kissmas, copyright © 2024 by Sara Raasch. Cuomo Should Pay—Big League—for His Trump-Hating COVID-19 Lies

No corner of hell is fiery enough to give former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo the roasting he deserves. Engineering thousands of deaths from COVID-19 was not enough. Now the disgraced Democrat deceptively blames his lethal sins on someone who offered help: President Donald J. Trump. Cuomo, who resigned in August 2021 after sexually harassing 13 women, slithered out of his well-earned oblivion with an op-ed in Sunday’s New York Daily News. “The United States lost 1.2 million people” to COVID, Cuomo writes. Why? “Trump recklessly and negligently politicized COVID,” Cuomo claims. “It was a complete failure of Trump’s leadership.” The COVID-19 deaths of nearly 13,000 residents of Empire State nursing homes were the predictable consequences of Cuomo’s decisions as governor, not Trump’s as president. Members of the U.S. House of Representatives should grill Cuomo about the following epic fails when he testifies at 2 p.m. Tuesday before the Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic. On March 25, 2020, Cuomo’s Health Department ordered: “No resident shall be denied re-admission or admission to the [nursing home] solely based on a confirmed or suspected diagnosis of COVID-19.” Cuomo forbade evaluating seniors for COVID-19. His directive went on to state that nursing homes “are prohibited from requiring a hospitalized resident who is determined medically stable to be tested for COVID-19 prior to admission or readmission.” Physicians immediately warned that Cuomo’s imperative would kill New York residents. The American Medical Directors Association declared March 26, 2020: “Unsafe transfers will increase the risk of transmission in post-acute and long-term care facilities which will ultimately only serve to increase the return flow back to hospitals, overwhelming capacity, endangering more health care personnel, and escalating the death rate.” Team Cuomo replied: “Obey!” The New York Post detailed the aftermath: Local hospitals steered 70 COVID-19 sufferers into Harlem’s Terence Cardinal Cooke Health Care Center in April 2020. By May 8, COVID-19 had killed 32 tenants. Hospitals delivered 19 COVID-19 survivors to Staten Island’s Carmel Richmond nursing home. By May 8, the virus had killed 56 inhabitants. “The state forced us to bring in these sick people,” a nurse at Long Island’s Luxor Nursing and Rehabilitation told the Post. “We had no choice, but we’re not happy about it here.” Cuomo denied rest homes’ requests for protective gear. “Not our job,” the governor snapped. Until April 30—Day 48 of the crisis—Cuomo allowed staffers who had tested positive for COVID-19 to work inside elder centers. By Jan. 19, 2021—coincidentally, Trump’s last full day in the White House—Cuomo’s edicts had killed 12,743 assisted-living dwellers. This amounted to 46.3% more fatalities than the 8,711 reported to have perished in the New York Health Department’s cooked books. In contrast to Cuomo’s stupid, unnecessary, and fatal judgments, Trump had offered the governor three lifesaving options: First, Trump sped the 1,000-bed floating hospital USNS Comfort to Manhattan’s Pier 90 on March 30, 2020—five days after Cuomo’s decree. Cuomo could have quarantined COVID-positive seniors in Comfort’s 500 pandemic-grade berths until they tested negative, and then sent them to elder institutions. Alas, Cuomo neglected the vessel. Only 182 checked in before Comfortsteamed back to Norfolk, Virginia, that April 30. Second, 12 blocks south, Trump transformed the Javits Center into a 3,000-bed pop-up hospital. Only 1,094 people arrived before it closed that May 1. Donny Tuchman, CEO of Cobble Hill Health Center, begged to send COVID-positive individuals to Comfort or the Javits Center that April 9. Cuomo’s Health Department said, “Nyet.” “I was told those facilities were only for hospitals” to refer patients, Tuchman told the Post. Never mind that only 62 of Comfort’s berths were full that day, as were just 134 of Javits’ 1,000 COVID-ready beds. Third, Trump’s close coordination with private industry yielded much of the masks, gowns, gloves, and other protective gear that Cuomo complained it was “not our job” to supply. Cuomo should beg forgiveness for his toxic boneheadedness. Instead, he takes zero responsibility for policy blunders that killed the elderly. Now, as Election Day looms, Cuomo slams Trump, the man who tried to avoid this mayhem and keep older Americans alive long enough to enjoy another Christmas or Hanukkah. Conversely, Cuomo bullied seniors into premature graves. Andrew Cuomo should beg the families of his victims for forgiveness and hope that this spares him from an eternity of damnation. Attending Church Regularly Will Lengthen Your Life More Than Diet, Exercise, Longevity Expert Says

Attending church services may open the door to eternal life—but it will also extend your life on Earth more than diet or exercise, according to the foremost expert on global longevity. Dan Buettner, who won three Emmy Awards for his groundbreaking 2023 documentary “Live to 100: Secrets of the Blue Zones,” revealed the deep benefits that faith in God renders to those who want to live a long and prosperous life. Although America faces an epidemic of chronic diseases, “only about 20% of how long you live is dictated by your genes,” he told “Mornings with Maria” on Aug. 30. A healthy lifestyle incorporating diet, exercise, and stress management means the average person can live “12 more years in good health.” But the statistics he shared proved that an active faith in God, including weekly church attendance, had potentially the biggest impact on extending earthly life. Buettner’s documentary investigated regions in the world known for having the longest average lifespan. Researchers interviewed 263 centenarians—people who had lived to the age of 100—and found all but five “belonged to some faith-based community.” The healthiest elderly had a common characteristic: “having a faith. We know people who go to church—or temple, or even mosque—and show up four times per month are living four to 14 years longer than people who aren’t.” The figure may come from a study finding regular church attendance lengthened the average American’s life by seven years—and 14 years for African Americans. That number dwarfed other, more intuitive lifehacks, including regular exercise and diet. “For a 20-year-old, if you move away from the standard American diet towards a Blue Zone diet—which is to say whole food, plant-based—it’s worth about 10 years of extra life expectancy, and for a 60-year-old, it’s still worth about six years,” he said. One food, particularly, stood out above others: beans. “If you’re eating a cup of beans a day, it’s worth about four extra years of life expectancy over getting your protein from less healthy sources,” Buettner said, as he raved about minestrone soup. “Every time that you mix a grain with a bean, they come together, they make a whole protein. … These are cheap foods, they’re shelf stable, and every American can afford them.” Those in the healthiest lifestyle moved organically, about every 20 minutes, without sitting for long periods of time. But anyone can benefit from simple exercise, such as walking. “If you have zero physical activity in your life, you can raise your life expectancy three years if you just walk 20 minutes a day,” Buettner told Bartiromo. Strong family relationships also put years in your life. Centenaries agree on “putting family first, keeping your aging parents nearby, investing in your partner, investing in your children,” he continued. “People who are in a committed relationship are living anywhere from two to six years longer than people who are alone in life.” If you’re keeping track, you can add three years to your life with exercise, four years by eating beans, six years by being in a committed relationship, six to 10 years by eating a whole foods and plant-based diet, and seven to 14 years by going to church every week. Another aspect of church life that may lengthen your life is stress management. A key factor in living to 100 is “downshifting: either through prayer, meditation, simply expressing gratitude before a meal.” Regular prayer incorporates “making sure our day has certain times where we lower the stress of the human condition, lower inflammation,” said Buettner, a 2011 fellow at National Geographic and muti-time grant awardee. Environmental factors—including the people and businesses around you—also play a role. “If you live in a neighborhood with more than five fast food restaurants within half a mile of your home, you’re about 35% more likely to be obese than if there are fewer than three,” Buettner added. “If your three best friends are obese and unhealthy, you are 150% more likely to be overweight yourself.” The study is but one of many that have found physical, mental, and psychological benefits of faith, Bible reading, and church attendance: Surgeon General Vivek Murthy issued a report in March 2023 stating that an epidemic of loneliness has produced health impacts “even greater than that associated with obesity and physical inactivity.” Americans’ “health may be undermined” by their declining participation in “[r]eligious or faith-based groups.” Regular “religious practice has significant effects” in reducing the faithful’s odds of dying from suicides, drug poisonings, and alcoholic liver disease, according to a 2023 study. The Blue Zones commend cultures that promote a sense of purpose. “[R]eligious Americans tend to believe their life is meaningful more often than do those who are not religious,” found a 2023 study. Americans who believe in God and value marriage are more likely to be “very happy” than isolated secularists, according to a Wall Street Journal-NORC poll taken last March. While only a thin sliver of Americans (12%) consider themselves “very happy,” 68% of the happiest people surveyed say they believe in God. An overwhelming 82% of Christians describe their outlook as optimistic and take pride in their church, according to a 2023 study. Christians who regularly read the Bible report a higher score on the Human Flourishing Index—which measures “happiness & life satisfaction,” “mental & physical health,” “meaning & purpose,” “character & virtue,” “close societal relationships” and “financial & material stability”—than nonpracticing Christians or the Nones/religiously unaffiliated, a 2023 study found. “Young-adult Gen-Xers in the strongly religious class across the three measurements generally reported better mental health when they reached established adulthood than those in the nonreligious class,” reported a 2022 Syracuse University study. Women who attend church at least once a week had a 68% lower chance of dying a death of despair than non-churchgoers; men who go to church frequently lower their risk by one-third, according to a 2020 Harvard study. Americans who attended religious services regularly were 44% more likely to say they were “very happy” than the religiously inactive, concluded a 2019 Pew Research Center survey. A 2019 study found “robust effects of religiosity on depression that are stronger for the most depressed.” Even if they leave behind religious practices, “people who attended weekly religious services or practiced daily prayer or meditation in their youth reported greater life satisfaction and positivity in their 20s—and were less likely to subsequently have depressive symptoms, smoke, use illicit drugs, or have a sexually transmitted infection—than people raised with less regular spiritual habits,” discovered a 2018 study from Harvard University’s T.H. Chan School of Public Health. A 2017 study found church attendance significantly lowers the body’s reaction to stress and cuts the worshiper’s chance of dying in half. “More frequent churchgoers (more than once a week) had a 55% reduction of all-cause mortality risk compared with non-churchgoers,” reported the study. Attending church more than once a week reduced a woman’s likelihood of dying by 33%, a 2016 Harvard study concluded. Journalist Alex Berenson Sues Biden Admin, Citing New Evidence of Twitter Censorship Ties

If you're tired of censorship and dystopian threats against civil liberties, subscribe to Reclaim The Net. Journalist Alex Berenson has amended his lawsuit against Joe Biden (Berenson v. Biden, deliberated by a New York district court), to add new evidence regarding alleged government-social media censorship collusion. We obtained a copy of the lawsuit for you here. Berenson’s lawsuit revolves around the involvement of not just the Biden administration, but Covid vaccine maker Pfizer, and what the journalist believes is their joint effort (“conspiracy”) to get Twitter to ban him in 2021. According to Berenson, formerly a New York Times reporter, the updated suit provides proof that many similar legislative efforts have been trying to present – namely, that Twitter’s censorship was “ultimately traceable” to the current White House, specifically, government pressure exerted upon social media companies. This evidence related to the ban comes from Twitter’s archives thanks to Elon Musk and X making it available to the journalist, as well as the ongoing Congressional investigation. Meanwhile, the mention of “traceable (injury)” has to do with the bar set by the US Supreme Court in Missouri v. Biden that has to be satisfied to allow a case to proceed to trial. Berenson believes that now with new evidence about what he calls coercive censorship, his lawsuit is “much stronger.” The amended complaint includes internal Twitter emails where the company’s own top executives state that the platform made a mistake banning Berenson’s account, while another appears to show lobbyist middlemen put Pfizer Director (and former FDA chief) Scott Gottlieb’s outreach in touch with the Biden administration. Yet another email reveals that Andy Slavitt, who had just resigned from the White House, communicated with Facebook to tell an exec there precisely how the White House – referred to as “WH” in the document – wants Facebook to treat content the government disapproves of. Berenson goes into details regarding mutual relationships among all these actors, and what each of them stood to gain from what is now commonly referred to by opponents as collusion; the reporter also singles out Slavitt as having “the central role (…) in the conspiracy” to censor him personally. In light of the new evidence, Berenson believes that his case will be allowed to proceed despite the defense team’s motions to dismiss it. “But if it does not, if federal Judge Jessica G.L. Clarke dismisses it before even allowing discovery and appeals courts back that decision, free speech on the internet will be close to dead,” Berenson warns.
