Apple Watch Series 10 announced with bigger screen and thinner design

Screenshot: Apple The 10th version of the Apple Watch has been announced at Apple’s event on Monday and features a 40 percent brighter wide-angle OLED screen that’s larger than the display on the Apple Watch Ultra. The new Apple Watch Series 10 is just 9.7 millimeters thick, making it 10 percent thinner and 10 percent lighter than the Apple Watch Series 9. Apple says its larger OLED screen, the largest used in an Apple Watch to date, allows the wearable to display an extra line of text onscreen, making it easier for users to check emails and messages at a glance. Powered by Apple’s new S10 chip with a four-core neural engine, the Series 10 features a polished aluminum finish and a new metal back integrating the smartwatch’s various antennas. It’s still... The Apple Watch Ultra 2 now comes in black

The Apple Watch Ultra 2 in black. | Photo: Chris Welch / The Verge Apple has refreshed the Apple Watch Ultra 2 with a new “satin black” color option and sleep apnea detection feature, the company announced at its September event today. It’s the first time Apple has offered the Watch Ultra in more than one color since it launched two years ago. Apple says its sleep apnea feature uses the watch’s accelerometer to analyze “breathing disturbance data” every 30 days and will “notify you if it shows consistent signs of moderate to severe sleep apnea.” The feature is coming to the new Apple Watch Series 10 as well as the Series 9. Apple also announced a new titanium Milanese Loop. It’s $799 and available for preorder today ahead of a September 20th release. The Watch Ultra will get watchOS 11, which brings... Continue reading…

Sleep apnea detection is coming to the Apple Watch

Image: Chris Welch / The Verge Apple is adding sleep apnea detection to the Apple Watch. The new feature is coming to the Apple Watch Series 9, the just-announced Series 10, and the Apple Watch Ultra 2, Apple announced at its product event on Monday. Sleep apnea is a disorder that causes you to stop breathing as you sleep. Sleep apnea is a feature that wearables makers have been working on for some time, with Samsung getting cleared by the FDA for sleep apnea tracking with the Galaxy Watch earlier this year. Apple says it’s using the accelerometer on its watches to monitor a new metric that it calls “breathing disturbances.” You’ll be able to see your nightly breathing disturbance values in the Health app. Image: Apple The company expects to get... The AirPods Max use USB-C now

Photo: The Verge After almost four years without a hardware update, a new version of the AirPods Max has been announced by Apple today, with the most welcome upgrade being a switch from Apple’s proprietary Lightning port to USB-C. The new AirPods Max can be preordered today in several new color options that include black, purple, and orange for $549 (the same price as the previous model) and will be available starting on September 20th. The AirPods Max, the first over-ear wireless headphones in Apple’s AirPods lineup, debuted in 2020, four years after the company’s first wireless earbuds were announced. Both the AirPods and subsequent AirPods Pro have received several updates since their debut with the second-generation AirPods Pro getting a USB-C... Continue reading…

The earbuds will be available in two models: an entry-level model, known as the AirPods 4, and a higher-end model with noise cancellation, known as the AirPods 4 with Active Noise Cancellation (ANC), a first for the standard AirPods line. The standard set costs $129, and the higher-end ANC one is $179. Both are available on September 20th and can be preordered today. The titanium Apple Watch Series 10 is carbon neutral

Illustration: The Verge The titanium Apple Watch Series 10 is carbon neutral, Apple announced during the “It’s Glowtime” event. Any Apple Watch in any finish can be carbon neutral this year, Apple says. To reduce emissions, the titanium watch is made with 95 percent recycled titanium, Apple’s chief operating officer Jeff Williams said. Apple also makes enough renewable energy purchases to match the electricity used to manufacture the watch. It also says it’s prioritizing “non-air shipping” to limit pollution from transportation. Apple introduced its first-ever carbon-neutral products last year, “select case and band combinations of Apple Watch Series 9, Apple Watch Ultra 2, and Apple Watch SE.” Along with the announcement today, the watches are the company’s... Apple announces the iPhone 16 with faster processor and camera control button

Image: Apple Apple has announced the iPhone 16, the latest edition of its mainline smartphone. The iPhone 16 comes in a variety of slightly refreshed colors that are more vivid compared to previous years. Also refreshed is the updated dual-camera arrangement on its rear, once again set up vertically, as last seen on the iPhone 12 from 2020. The iPhone 16 has a variety of new hardware refinements, like a new A18 chip with 3nm process that’s 30 percent faster than the iPhone 15’s CPU, an Action Button that debuted on last year’s Pro models, and a new physical camera control button below the power button. The iPhone 16 will be Apple’s first mainstream phone to utilize Apple Intelligence in beta after an update coming in October. The company first... Continue reading…

Apple Watch Series 10 unveiled with bigger displays and new Jet Black color

Ten years after the original Apple Watch was released, Apple announced the all-new Apple Watch Series 10. This wearable features an all-new display bigger than the Apple Watch Ultra. With an all-new wide-angle OLED display, it's 40% brighter when seen from an angle. It maintains the same mechanisms for connecting the bands, but Apple was able to make it thinner than previous iterations. Apple says the Apple Watch Series 10 charges 80% in only 30 minutes. It is available in new Jet Black, Rose Gold, and Silver. A more premium model is available in Natural Titanium, Gold, and Dark Slate Gray. These devices are 20% lighter than the Apple Watch Series 9. One of the reasons for that is the new re-engineered speaker system, which is 30% smaller. You can even play music and podcasts through it. Screenshot The new S10 chip uses a four-core neural engine and takes advantage of the upcoming watchOS 11 with the revamped Smart Stack, which provides new widgets when needed. The Photos Face uses machine learning to select your best photos. This new processor is also key for sleep apnea detection. The company says it uses sleep and breathing patterns in addition to an accelerometer to estimate whether someone has the condition. Although Apple will expand it to the Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2. The company expects FDA approval very soon. Apple is also improving this device’s water resistance. It will now feature new Tides and Depth apps, just like the Apple Watch Ultra. With that, Apple Watch owners will be able to access depth data when swimming or diving with their new watches. The Apple Watch Series 10 starts at $399, and you can pre-order it today. It will be available on September 20. Apple Watch Series 10 specs Image source: Apple Inc. New Apple Watch Ultra 2 satin black finish debuts at Glowtime event

Apple kicked off its Glowtime event on September 9th with the reveal of the Apple Watch Series 10, but that wasn't the only new wearable hardware. Apple is now offering the Apple Watch Ultra 2 in a new satin black colorway. Apple says the new finish for the Apple Watch Ultra 2 uses a new blasting process that makes it even more durable and resistant to scratches. The company also used a dark zirconia crystal on the back of the watch to match the new colorway. Apple Watch Ultra 2 Satin Black features. Image source: Apple Beyond the watch itself, Apple also introduced the new titanium Milanese Loop band, as well as new colors for the Trail Loop, Ocean Band, and Hermès bands. Apple Watch Ultra 2 owners will also be able to use an exclusive new Hermès watch face. There was an expectation that Apple would announce a new Apple Watch SE model today, but that did not come to fruition. Apple Watch fans will have to settle for the Series 10 and the new finish for the Apple Watch Ultra 2, along with all of the upgrades in watchOS 11. Speaking of new features, the Apple Watch Ultra 2 will gain a sleep apnea detection feature. As with the Apple Watch Series 10, the Ultra 2 will employ its accelerometer to check for "breathing disturbances" during sleep and alert the user if signs of sleep apnea are detected. The Apple Watch Ultra 2 in Satin Black will be available Friday, September 20, starting at $799. Preorders for the new finish will open today.
