Bryan Adams recalls how he ended up writing songs for Kiss

Bryan Adams is among the most successful artists of all time, with an estimated amount of more than 75 million records sold worldwide, but before becoming a huge Rock star he wrote some songs for Kiss. He recently recorded those songs as a solo artist and released them. He recalled in an interview with Eddie Trunk (Transcribed by Blabbermouth) how he ended up co-writing "War Machine" and "Rock and Roll Hell" for Kiss. Bryan Adams recalls how he ended up writing songs for Kiss "I was 21, and I released my album called 'You Want It, You Got It'. And I got a call from a guy called Michael James Jackson, who was a producer at the time, and he called me to say, 'Hey, I really like your record. And I'm actually working with this band KISS. Would you like to write a couple of songs with them or for them?' And I said, 'Yeah. What? Is this for real?'" "He said, 'Yeah.' And so they flew me to Los Angeles and I met Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley and Eric Carr, who was the drummer at the time. I sort of sat down with each one of 'em individually and wrote songs with each one. I wrote a song with Paul and I wrote a song with Eric. And with Gene I didn't write anything, but Gene had a really good bassline that I sort of recorded on my cassette recorder." He continued: "I took it back to Vancouver, and I was telling my usual songwriting collaborator, Jim Vallance, that I'd done this thing, and 'Check out this bassline of Gene's.' And we listened to it, and within an hour or so, we'd written this song called 'War Machine' around it. So that's how 'War Machine' came about. And then just to drag Jim into it further, he had a song that he wrote by himself called 'Rock And Roll Hell'". "I said, 'We should retool that song' — 'cause it didn't do anything — 'we should retool it for KISS.' And he said, 'Okay, let's give it a go.' So I came up with a verse idea and then the two of us sort of came up with a lyric idea and we finished the song and sent it down there. And that became the second KISS song. Gene wanted a third verse, so he wrote a third verse for it," Bryan Adams said. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0gI4vlvwO1M&t=1s&pp=ygUQYnJ5YW4gYWRhbXMga2lzcw%3D%3DThe post Bryan Adams recalls how he ended up writing songs for Kiss appeared first on Rock And Roll Garage.

Sammy Hagar explains why Jason Bonham had to leave his tour

Sammy Hagar was on the road with the "Best of All Worlds tour", which is focused on Van Halen material and his band is formed by Jason Bonham, Michael Anthony and Joe Satriani. However, Bonham recently had to leave the tour because of a medical emergency with his mother, that's what Sammy revealed in an interview with KSHE 95 (Transcribed by Blabbermouth). He was replaced by the drummer Kenny Aronoff, who had already played with many incredible artists. Sammy Hagar explains why Jason Bonham had to leave his tour "Well, I've known Kenny for a long time. Kenny has been my backup drummer for about — not just me. You talk to Billy Gibbons, you talk to anybody, they're gonna tell you that he's their backup drummer because he's the only guy that you can hand a setlist of 24 songs and in 24 hours he can play 'em." "Jason's (family emergency) was a sudden thing. His mother had a stroke and went into a coma and it's serious. So (his) whole family went over there (to the UK). And he held out for two or three days, and he says, 'I gotta go. I gotta go.' I said, 'You go. Go.' So we told Kenny. He had about 24-hour notice. And he came in the first night. He got there at six in the morning. We played that night in Cincinnati. And he did a 90-percent perfect show. I swear to you, I make more mistakes every night than he did. So that's big hats off to this guy." "The (U.S.) tour is over now, but we're going to Japan. And if Jason is still with his mom, he's gotta be there till she either comes through or… whatever. I shouldn't be talking about his personal business, but he's got a medical emergency with his mother. You don't ignore that. We got Kenny, thank God. And if we have to go to Japan with him, we'll go to Japan. I just love playing with him 'cause he's so enthusiastic. He's the most enthusiastic guy. 'Oh man, we're gonna kill it. Oh, don't worry about me.' He's, like, foaming at the mouth. He's crazy," Sammy Hagar said. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FWRVeDhfTjQ&pp=ygUQc2FtbXkgaGFnYXIgMjAyNA%3D%3DThe post Sammy Hagar explains why Jason Bonham had to leave his tour appeared first on Rock And Roll Garage.

Ritchie Blackmore recalls a birthday gift from Eric Clapton

Ritchie Blackmore and Eric Clapton were both born in 1945 and became two of the most important guitarists of all time. They started their careers still in the 60s but Clapton had the chance to achieve fame a few years before Blackmore would have the chance as a member of Deep Purple. Although they never really did the same kind of music and were different kinds of players, they had the chance to get to know each other. As Blackmore recalled in an interview published on his Youtube channel (Transcribed by Ultimate Guitar), Clapton even gave him a present once. Also revealed that he started using the Stratocaster because of Eric Clapton and it was a guitar which was previously owned by him. Ritchie Blackmore recalls a birthday gift from Eric Clapton Blackmore recalled that his relationship with Clapton started still back in the 60s when Deep Purple was Cream's opening act. Ritchie asked Clapton about the strings he was using to achieve a "fat sound". Sometime later, one of Clapton's roadies went to the house where Purple members were living. He took with him a Stratocaster which previously belonged to the Blues Rock guitarist. "I was living in Acton (town area in west London) with the band, Deep Purple. We were all together in one house. I'd often been interested in playing a Strat, and one of the roadies for Eric knew one of our roadies." "He came over to the house with this Strat with a slightly bent, bowed neck. I was very intrigued by this guitar. So, I picked it up. I said, 'Would you sell this?' He said, 'Yes.' I think I paid 60 pounds for the guitar, which used to be Eric's. Eric gave it to whoever this guy was." He continued: "I think the next time I saw him (Clapton) was on my birthday. He had been sick. He'd been in the hospital, which was in Minneapolis, I think, or one of those places. He was in the same hotel as we were. I had a knock at the door. He'd just been let out of the hospital. I (opened) the door, and Eric was there. He had a little wooden pole, and on the end of the pole was a duck. The duck would quack as he pushed it along." "He said, 'This is a present for you on your birthday.' I was taken aback, because I didn't know Eric that well (at that point). I took the duck and we exchanged pleasantries. I had the duck for years," Ritchie Blackmore said. https://youtu.be/aXVcOvYu_bsThe post Ritchie Blackmore recalls a birthday gift from Eric Clapton appeared first on Rock And Roll Garage.

The story of when Phil Collins asked Madonna for her autograph

The story of when Phil Collins asked Madonna for her autograph

After becoming Genesis' frontman in the late 70s and then launching his extremely successful solo career in the 80s, Phil Collins became one of the biggest stars from that decade and was really everywhere in show business, not only in music but also on movies and TV. So he had the chance to meet all the biggest stars from that decade and one of them was Madonna, who was still rising to fame. The curious thing is that the first time he had the chance to meet her, was at the backstage of a John Cougar show and she was with Sean Penn. That night, Collins asked for her autograph because his kids were really huge fans of her. But he also praised her and said he had a "soft spot" for her. The story of when Phil Collins asked Madonna for her autograph Phil Collins recalled that funny story  in an interview with David Sheff back in 1986 and praised her. "I've got a soft spot for Madonna. She has a lot of intensity. Maybe it's that little innocent voice and the underwear she wears. Funnily enough, I met them--Sean Penn and Madonna. I went to see John Cougar in Los Angeles when I had my kids out with me. They are fans of his, so I took them backstage after the gig and there in the corner was this couple. Simon, my son, said, 'Dad, that's Madonna!' I said, 'Naaaa.' He said, 'Da-a-ad, it is, it is, it is. Get her autograph for me! Please.' He continued: "I collect autographs for them. (Also) I got Lionel Richie, Michael Jackson. I finally went over to Sean and said, 'Hello, I'm Phil Collins.' He said, 'I know who you are, man.' I thought he was going to hit me. I said, 'Is it possible, Madonna, that you could give my kids autographs? They won't speak to me if I don't ask.' So she quite nervously, embarrassed, gave me her autograph. She didn't seem to be able to deal with it very well," Phil Collins said. In 1986, Madonna had only three studio albums out: "Madonna" (1983), "Like a Virgin" (1984) and "True Blue" (1986). She already had successful hits like "Holyday", "Material Girl", "Like a Virgin", "Papa Don't Preach" and "La Isla Bonita". Collins saw her with the actor Sean Penn, because he and Madonna were actually married from 1985 to 1989. She went on to become one of the most successful and influential pop stars of all time. Until 2024 she released 14 studio albums, the most recent one being "Madame X" in 2019. She has sold an estimated amount of more than 300 million records worldwide. That number makes her the best-selling female recording artist of all time. Madonna is also the most successful solo artist in the history of the United States Billboard Hot 100 chart. She had simply 44 number-one singles during her career. Other artists that Phil Collins admired a lot back in the 80s were Bruce Springsteen and the late Michael Jackson. He also had the chance to meet both of them. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zpzdgmqIHOQThe post The story of when Phil Collins asked Madonna for her autograph appeared first on Rock And Roll Garage.

Mom says she won't be raising 'tough boys' to avoid this one toxic trait

Parenting has evolved in myriad ways, but certainly one of the more potent shifts has been attitudes towards raising boys. As a society, we have seen how detrimental the whole “men should be strong and never show emotion” thing can be, and more and more parents are trying to not pass that outdated belief onto their sons. Still, you’ll definitely run across an adult—be it a parent, grandparent, teacher, babysitter, etc— saying “boys don’t cry!” or “toughen up” from time to time whenever a young boy shows sensitivity. And that is exactly why a video posted by Jen Hamilton, a mom of two boys, is such an important watch, because in it Hamilton deftly explains how associating masculinity with toughness teaches boys that only one emotion is allowed expression. Hamilton begins by showing a picture of her sons as she says, “we have decided not to raise tough boys.”“I might sound crazy, but when you raise your kids to be tough, or you tell them to toughen up, what you're teaching them is how to mask true emotions that they're feeling to appear strong,” she continues. @_jen_hamilton_ Why we aren’t raising “tough” boys ♬ Paper Birds (3 min) - Jordan Halpern Schwartz And as these “tough” little boys grow up into men, internalizing and suppressing their true emotion in order to appear strong, they become capable of expressing only one emotion—anger.Hamilton likened it to pushing down a beach ball into water. Eventually that beach ball is going to explode up. “When that boundary finally breaks, it comes out as temper. Throwing things, yelling, “ Hamilton says. Instead, Hamilton and her husband are teaching their sons “to feel deeply” and allow emotions, even the negative ones, so that they may understand them better.”As an example, Hamilton shares that when her son came home one day feeling left out of something she responded with ‘Hey, that really sucks. And I know exactly what that feels like and it really hurts.”“ I don't say, ‘Get over it’ or ‘Toughen up.’”Hamilton asserts that in this scenario, she is teaching her son the value of compassion for others. When they see someone else feeling left out, they can better empathize with them. “But when we say things like get over it or toughen up, you're telling them that those feelings aren't valid and then they are not able to see those feelings as valid in other people.”Hamilton goes so far to say that anyone who is not taught to validate their own emotions won’t have the tools to empathize with others, and this is what helps create narcissism. Hamilton also shares that where she didn’t grow up with a dad who had anger issues, her husband did. Thankfully, he has developed his own emotional intelligence in spite of it, and has no problem “getting down on his knees” to meet their sons' emotions head on. In conclusion, Hamilton declares that she doesn't think it’s ever “necessary or helpful” to expose her kids, or anyone else's, to “harsh situations to toughen them up.” Empathy is always worth teaching. Photo credit: CanvaDown in the comments, other adults couldn't agree more with Hamiton’s stance. “This is what breaks the trauma of patriarchy. This is what saves young males,” one person wrote. Another person, a principal, shared, “I am always telling boys it’s okay to cry, to be hurt, and to have feelings.” Still another viewer wrote “Exactly! Help our children to feel safe enough to express themselves, teach empathy and compassion. We need this now more than ever.”For those looking to break the cycle of toxic masculinity with their own sons, but not sure where to start, another viewer mentioned the book “Boys Will Be Human: A Get-Real Gut-Check Guide to Becoming the Strongest, Kindest, Bravest Person You Can Be,” written by Justin Baldoni. Sounds like a phenomenal resource. You can find it on Amazon here.

Smart mom leaves babysitter a list of 'add-on' chores to make more money if she chooses

A mother in Missouri has found a way to maximize date night with her husband. She left a note for her babysitter, giving her options to make more side cash by completing small tasks around the home. The goal was to have a night out and to return to a cleaner and better-organized home. It makes sense. Most of the time, babysitters just sit around while the kid sleeps, so why not make their time more productive and profitable? Katrina Ivan, a science teacher, posted the list she sent her babysitter on TikTok and the video received over 1.5 million views.“You are more than welcome to hang out and watch TV all night, but if you want to make some extra $, these jobs are up for grabs,” Katrina wrote to her babysitter, a senior in high school whom she’s known for 4 years. When the babysitter saw the list, she was excited to get to work and started cleaning the windows 10 minutes after Katrina and her husband left the house. Katrina realized her plan was working when she saw her cleaning the windows through her Ring camera. “She was like, ‘Heck ya!' and got to work right away,” Katrina told Today.com. "I left all the supplies out for her so she didn't have to feel weird hunting around for things."By the end of the night, the babysitter was able to clean the mirrors and windows, organize the toys, vacuum the couch and scrub and organize the silverware drawer."I think this is a great opportunity for your babysitter. You’re giving a choice, and I love that," Lisa B wrote in the comments on the video. "This is a great idea!! Sometimes it’s boring to just to sit and watch TV. This makes time go by quicker and sometimes it’s things I would do to help," Del added. Most commenters applauded Katrina’s idea, although some thought she could pay a little better."I think $10 is too cheap for some of these tasks considering the amount of work/size of the mess," Liz wrote. In a follow-up video, Katrina broke down the money she paid the babysitter that night. @kivankc Replying to @LISA B │✨ what i'm learning ✨ #greenscreen Katrina agreed that the prices could go up a bit. "I’ll definitely be restructuring the prices to make this more fair in the future," she wrote. However, she added that she paid the babysitter $75 for the night just to watch her 2-year-old son, who was asleep most of the time. All in all, the sitter made $28.75 an hour, tax-free. Not bad at all.In another follow-up, Katrina interviewed the babysitter, who said she enjoyed making some extra money. “That sounds great,” she said. @kivankc What questions do you have for the newly famous babysitter? She’s along for the ride, and enjoys the spotlight. Loving the money, and crushing the jobs we leave for her. Sorry friends, but she’s not available to book-this kid is wayyy to busy between date night babysitting for us, earning perfect grades, being involved in a zillion after school activiites, and taking night time Fire/EMS classes at night so she can start her CAREER fresh out of high school. Do I sound a little proud?!? #sorrynotsorry #sillyinterview #babysitter #bestbabysitter #sidequests #meetmybabysitter #cheers #toddlermom #momlife This article originally appeared on 2.6.24
