Republicans are gaining ground on Democrats in the crucial swing state of Pennsylvania, registering more new voters than Democrats in July. Axios reported on Tuesday that Republicans added 19,127 new voters to their rolls in July, while Democrats added 17,495. For the year, Republicans are outpacing Democrats in new voter registration in Pennsylvania, leading 94,603 to 87,325, according to the state. The gains for Republicans in Pennsylvania include the all-important Bucks County — to the northeast of Philadelphia — as the GOP is leading the Democrats in new voter registration for the first time in the county in 15 years, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. “It’s a morale booster, it’s something we’ve been targeting for years,” Bucks County GOP Chair Pat Poprik said. A senior FBI official said on Wednesday that the FBI has a “clear idea” of the mindset of the 20-year-old man who shot Donald Trump, but added that a motive for Thomas Matthew Crooks targeting the former president at the July 13 rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, remains unknown. Kevin Rojek, the special agent in charge of the FBI’s Pittsburgh field office, said in a media call on Wednesday that Crooks searched online for both Trump and Joe Biden events but saw the Trump Butler rally as a “target of opportunity,” the Associated Press reported. Scripps News national correspondent Elizabeth Landers reported that the FBI’s media call revealed no new information about what ideology might have influenced Crooks, and the FBI said there is no evidence of a co-conspirator or foreign involvement.
