FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
Can I make these Peppermint Oreo Balls ahead of time? Oreo Peppermint Truffles can be prepared the night before. What if I can’t find white melting chips? If you can’t find the white melting chips, you can use white chocolate chips instead. Most mainstream grocery stores carry the white melting chips where the other candy making supplies are. You can also find them at craft stores like Michaels. If needed you can grab them online at Amazon (paid link). What’s the secret to making pretty Peppermint Oreo Balls? The secret to making perfect truffles is working quickly so the chocolate doesn’t cool too quickly and become too difficult to work with. It’s also crucial to work quickly with the crushed candy cane sprinkles too. You need to add those while the melted chocolate is still wet. I also recommend if possible, grab someone to help you make these balls. It’s helpful to have a second set of hands when working with the melted chocolate. I also suggest grabbing an extra bag of melting wafers just in case. If this is your first time and you don’t have an extra person to help out, having extra on hand in case it seizes up and you need to start over will be helpful and will help you stress less. Also, when I’m working by myself I tend to go slower and somehow end up using more chocolate than I intend to. If you have extra, you can melt just a little at a time and use just what you need, when you need it. How do I store leftovers? Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2-3 days or in the refrigerator for up to 2-3 weeks. Can you freeze Peppermint Oreo Balls? You can freeze leftovers in a sealed container for up to 6-8 weeks. To defrost, place in the refrigerator the night before serving leftovers.

Oreo cookies– be sure to use the regular Oreos, not Double Stuft Oreos. I know it can be tempting, but the extra creamy filling can make these hard to roll and keep their shape. I’m not saying it’s impossible to do, it’s just harder to do with the extra filling.
cream cheese– softened to room temperature. Need to soften the cream cheese quickly? Check out my tips on How to Soften Cream Cheese Quickly.
peppermint extract– Peppermint extract is pretty common nowadays. You’ll find it where all the other extracts are in the grocery store and you can grab it online on Amazon (paid link) if you need to.
white melting wafers – if you need a different option, check the FAQ section above.
crushed candy canes – this is optional. Some people like the crunch and others don’t. I think it’s a great way to help people know before tasting that it is peppermint flavored.
HOW TO MAKE PEPPERMINT OREO BALLS:
Crush the Oreo cookies in a food processor or with a rolling pin in a ziploc bag until they become fine crumbs. In a large mixing bowl, mix the crushed cookies with the softened cream cheese and peppermint extract until well combined.
Line a baking sheet (choose a size that will fit in your freezer) with parchment paper and use a cookie scoop to form small balls. You may need to roll them in your hand for a minute to get them perfectly round. Place all the balls onto the parchment paper.
Put the baking sheet into the freezer and freeze for 30 minutes. In a separate bowl, melt the white chocolate melting chips for 1-2 minutes, stirring every 30 seconds until fully melted through. It is best to go buy the directions on the back of the package as some may have slightly different heating times.
Remove the frozen cookie balls from the freezer. Using a fork, dip the cookie balls into the melted chocolate, and gently shake off any excess. Place back onto the parchment paper. Garnish the tops with crushed candy canes while still wet.
Place the peppermint cookie balls into the refrigerator to chill for at least 15 minutes to set the coating before serving, enjoy!
