Woman With Disability Uses Innovative Robot To Work As A Waitress

If you watched several Nickelodeon shows for teens, you saw robot waiters in most kids’ hangout spots. A restaurant in Tokyo, Japan, uses robots as wait staff, but with a twist. Their robots are not autonomous, and each has a human “pilot.” When you visit Dawn Avatar Robot Cafe, you will have a robot waitress under the control of a disabled remote worker. @dailymail A Japanese disabled woman who can’t leave her house shared a sweet conversation with a French tourist through a robot – which allows her to work as a waitress at a restaurant remotely, from home. All staff at Tokyo-based Dawn Avatar Robot Café are machines controlled by people with medical or physical limitations who cannot physically be there. Instagram / ksouchh #japan #robot #dining ♬ Cute – Raya The French-speaking robot waitress explained to a tourist that she was homebound. The unique restaurant offers disabled workers a chance to earn a paycheck regardless of their physical abilities. Although some robotic advances can be scary, this one benefits the robot waitress and customers. On Nickelodeon, the robots were not very good at getting orders correct. Their “customer service” voice lacked personality, compassion, and understanding. The remotely controlled robot wait staff lets customers connect directly with a live “pilot.” This leads to a better dining experience. @wheretofindme getting served by robot waiters was definitely one of the craziest things I experienced in Tokyo! A futuristic and wholesome concept, add this unique cafe to your Japan bucket list #tokyocafe #robotcafetokyo #tokyothingstodo #thingstodointokyo #tokyoitinerary #tokyorestaurant #tokyotrip ♬ Ghibli-style nostalgic waltz – MaSssuguMusic Customers experience a unique and innovative taste of future technology. The disabled workers using the robots as waiters or waitresses gain independence they would not usually have. The arrangement builds self-confidence and self-esteem for disabled workers. Being able to maintain employment is an essential step toward independence. The cafe, owned by Ory Laboratory, opened in 2021. The robots, named OriHime, can be controlled using a tablet or smartphone. A robot waitress can see and talk with customers while working from home. The Dawn Avatar Robot Cafe currently employs over 60 people with physical disabilities. Hospitalized or homebound students can use the interactive robots to attend classes. Remote workers use the robots while remaining home to attend to children or other family members. The potential uses are endless. Please share if you like the innovation of this robot waitress. Woke Is Not Dead

Donald Trump, the once and future president, won not just the Electoral College but likely the popular vote. In doing so, he defeated the Democrats’ DEI hire candidate, the great intersectional hope Kamala Harris, in part by running on a platform of rooting woke ideology out of the federal government. Trump’s triumph comes after a year of embarrassing scandals for the woke movement. University professors resigned amid accusations of plagiarism. Companies began rejecting the Human Rights Campaign’s Corporate Equality Index. Democrats began to question whether transgender orthodoxy was costing them elections. Some conservatives may get cocky and start to think that the woke movement is dying, or at least on its way out. They couldn’t be more wrong. Sure, Woke Inc. suffered a couple of setbacks, but it still enjoys dominance of America’s cultural institutions, from Hollywood to academia to the entrenched federal bureaucrats who won’t just resign when Trump takes office again on Jan. 20. The scattered conservative victories of 2024 are just that: minor plays that gain a few yards and maybe the occasional field goal. Hold your touchdown dances, friends, we’re nowhere near the end zone. Take former Harvard President Claudine Gay, for example. Sure, she stepped down amid a torrent of criticism over her flaccid response to antisemitism on her campus, and after a series of plagiarism scandals she could no longer deny. Yet the legacy media initially leapt to Gay’s defense—downplaying plagiarism as an unserious problem. It took the heroic efforts of a Manhattan Institute senior fellow, Chris Rufo, and many other conservative journalists to expose Gay. And she had real skeletons in her closet. The next woke leader of Harvard may be far more careful. Harvard’s fundraising may be struggling, but it’s still Harvard. The Ivy League isn’t what it used to be, but it still carries tremendous prestige—and 91% of faculty at elite American universities are still leftist, according to the National Association of Scholars. Gay’s resignation is an opening salvo in one long-running siege, not the victory march that comes at the end of the war. It’s American sailors surviving after the attack on Pearl Harbor, not the V-J Day celebration. Similarly, some companies that had no business working with a far-left group like the Human Rights Campaign have finally woken up and realized their mistake. Conservative activist Robby Starbuck deserves immense credit for pressuring brands such as Coors, Ford, Harley-Davidson, Jack Daniels, and Lowe’s to cut ties with HRC. The Human Rights Campaign acts like an LGBTQ mafia, demanding companies genuflect to transgender causes and funnel cash to LGBTQ groups in exchange for high ratings on its Corporate Equality Score. Venture capitalists in the woke environmental, social, and governance movement use the score as a vetting tool. While any company cutting off HRC represents a win for sanity and a neutral corporate America, these companies had right-leaning audiences to begin with. Sure, Lowe’s will cut off HRC, but how about Amazon? Harley-Davidson shouldn’t be bowing and scraping to drag queens, anyway. But good luck getting Lululemon, Forever21, Victoria’s Secret, or any of a thousand other more left-leaning brands to take a second look. Finally, let’s talk about Kamala Harris and Trump’s masterful ad slamming her over transgender issues: “She’s for they/them. He’s for you.” Trump tapped into popular sentiment against males competing in women’s sports (something 72% of Americans oppose) and opposition to sex changes for kids (which another 72% of Americans oppose). It is heartening to see these issues resonate with the American electorate, and some Democrats are indeed questioning whether they want to die on this hill. Yet many talking heads, including White House press secretary-turned-MSNBC host Jen Psaki, are doubling down. The Left’s brief soul-searching on transgender issues seems likely to dissipate as Democrats find Rep. Tim McBride, a male who identifies as female and wishes to go by the name Sarah, a good person to turn into a victim on this issue. Medical institutions still embrace “gender-affirming care,” despite overwhelming evidence that such medical interventions do more harm than good, especially to children. Make no mistake—the transgender issue isn’t going anywhere. As Trump assembles his Cabinet, he needs to seriously consider how entrenched woke ideology is in the federal government. My forthcoming book “The Woketopus: The Dark Money Cabal Manipulating the Federal Government,” reveals just how far the Left’s woke tentacles have penetrated the bureaucracy in Washington, D.C. Left-wing activists have touched a whole host of issues within the bureaucracy, from education to immigration to the rules that determine how Americans work. The woke influence runs so deep that the Department of Homeland Security told border agents not to refer to illegal aliens as “he” or “she” unless they know the illegals’ preferred pronouns. Severing these tentacles is a gargantuan challenge, and I’d humbly suggest that my book may provide key insights into how the new Trump administration should go about it. Don’t get me wrong: 2024 was a great year for conservatives, and it provides a road map for the future. But let’s not kid ourselves: The mammoth task of eradicating woke ideology from America’s institutions isn’t over. In fact, it’s barely beginning. Michael Moore Rages at Pro-Israel Democrats as 'Genocide Arms Dealers'

Zachary Leeman at Mediaite reported that leftist “mockumentary” maker Michael Moore ranted in a Saturday Substack post that Democrats who voted against a Bernie Sanders “peace” resolution stopping aid shipments to Israel are “Genocide Arms Dealers.” Moore asked his fans for a favor: "Please take a moment on this special holiday weekend to let your elected representatives know you do not want your tax dollars going to a right-wing government that is hell-bent on civilian mass starvation and death." He might be extra-bitter since he pranced around predicting "Trump Is Toast" in October. “What better way to celebrate losing the November 5th election than by continuing to ignore the will of the American people who oppose Israel’s war on Gaza. Nothing says to the public ‘we hear you’ better than the Democratic Party announcing that ‘we’re going to kill even more children in Palestine now with your/our American tax dollars,'” wrote Moore. It continued in this diseased vein: And what better way to celebrate the current holiday season — including the one where we feast and remember how the Indigenous people of the Americas saved our lives by feeding us a meal right in the middle of our European ancestors committing the largest mass genocide in human history… AND the upcoming celebration of the birth of the Prince of PEACE, plus the celebration of the Maccabees killing the Syrians who had stolen their land and their Temple with Hanukkah, the “Festival of Lights and thanksgiving,” commemorating the rededication and reopening of the Temple. But something amazing happened exactly 10 days ago: 19 Democratic and Independent Senators stood up for the first time and voted to STOP the sending of three shipments of American weapons to Israel. It was a never-before rebuke to warn Netanyahu that millions of Americans have had enough of his slaughter of innocent civilians. Of course, to Netanyahu, Palestinians are not “innocent” because, well, they don’t exist. The 1977 manifesto/ charter of his Likud Party makes this very clear: “Between the Sea and the Jordan there will only be Israeli sovereignty.” How backwards is that? "From the river to the sea" isn't eliminationist. Likud are the eliminationists.  He intends to remove these non-existent humans from Israel’s occupied territories and push them into the deserts of Egypt and Jordan — and, as we currently witness every day, to exterminate them, preferably when they are infants and children. Saves the trouble of having to do it later. Ask the Germans and the American pioneers. They were both convinced that annihilation was the answer — the Solution — to removing “the problem.” Moore concluded that most Americans oppose Israel after October 7 because they oppose "ethnic cleansing" and "apartheid," not to mention:  A Theocracy Is Never a Democracy. Not in Iran. Not in an America run by the Moral Majority or Christian Nationalists. Not in an Israel that has sadly lost its way. Sadly for Moore, the Christian "nationalists" just democratically elected Trump again.

The Delta Force season pass lets you choose which parts you want to pay for

Just like many other free-to-play games, Delta Force will have a season pass. The upcoming tactical FPS is doing things a little differently than most, however, as it's giving you a couple of cheaper options depending on whether you want to play the Battlefield or Escape From Tarkov-like game modes. So if you find yourself gravitating towards large-scale battles or tense extraction loops, you can easily pick and choose which you want to get the extra rewards from. The First Descendant dev confirms much-wanted cosmetics won’t come back

The First Descendant Season 2 is about to begin, and there’s plenty of new additions to look forward to in the free Steam looter shooter. Unfortunately, developer Nexon has bad news for players hoping that some of their favorite limited-time cosmetics might one day make a return. In an attempt to avoid such issues in the future, The First Descendant skins will be labeled differently, with extensions to a range of skin sales and refunds of Caliber and Paint in certain specific cases. The 2024 Installer gift guide, part one

Image: David Pierce / The Verge Hi, friends! Welcome to Installer No. 62, your guide to the best and Verge-iest stuff in the world. (If you’re new here, welcome, happy Post-Thanksgiving Chill Weekend, and also you can read all the old editions at the Installer homepage.) This week, I’ve been reading about junk food and Madden 2004 and Anthony Jeselnik, watching Wicked and immediately making sure to hold space for the lyrics of “Defying Gravity,” exploring the back catalog of 60 Second Docs (which I found thanks to Jason Kottke), watching a lot of Thomas the Tank Engine with my toddler, marveling at how complicated it is just to shop for pizza stones, and listening to the first episodes of The Rest is Classified. I also have for you a productivity app that I truly... Continue reading…
