Globular Clusters Evolve in Interesting Ways Over Time

Globular clusters are among the oldest objects in the Universe. The early Universe was filled with dwarf galaxies and its just possible that globular clusters are the remains of these ancient relics. Analysis of the stars in the clusters reveals ages in the region of 12-13 billion years old. A new paper just published shows that the globular clusters are home to two distinct types of stars; the primordial ones with normal chemical composition and those with unusual heavy amounts of heavier elements.  Globular clusters are dense, spherical collections of stars that orbit the outer regions of galaxies, usually in the galactic halo. They contain hundreds of thousands, sometimes millions of stars bound together by gravity. They differ from open clusters, which are younger and less tightly bound and found in the main body of a galaxy. Globular clusters in contrast, are ancient with ages typically in the regions of 10 to 13 billion years old.  M13 – Credit: R. Jay GaBany There stellar components are mostly composed of low-mass, metal-poor stars, suggesting they formed early in the history of the universe before the heavier elements appeared. Studying globular clusters can reveal lots about stellar evolution, the formation of galaxies and even dark matter. Our own Galaxy the Milky Way is home to over 150 known globular clusters like well known M13 in the northern hemisphere or Omega Centauri in the southern hemisphere. Omega Centauri is the brightest globular cluster in the night sky. It holds about 10 million stars and is the most massive globular cluster in the Milky Way. It’s possible that globulars and nuclear star clusters are related in some way as a galaxy evolves. Image Credit: ESO. In a paper recently published in Astronomy and Astrophysics, a team of researchers have advanced our understanding of these clusters by revealing more about their formation and dynamical evolution. The team led by Emanuele Dalessandro from the National Institute for Astrophysics (INAF) explored multiple populations of stars in the clusters. They studied the change in positions of the stars and their velocity in the first 3D kinematic analysis of 16 globular clusters.  The team used data from ESA’s Gaia telescope the European Southern Observatory Very Large Telescope and Multi Instrument Kinematic Survey to measure the 3D velocity of stars within the clusters. This was a combination of proper motion (motion across the sky) and radial velocity (motion towards and away from us.) To gather the measurements, spectroscopic survey data was used. Artist’s impression of the Gaia spacecraft detecting artificial signals from a distant star system. In this synchronization scheme, the star system’s inhabitants send the signal shortly after witnessing a supernova, which is also seen by telescopes on Earth. (Credit: Danielle Futselaar / Breakthrough Listen) The formation and evolution of globular clusters has been one of the most hotly debated questions for the last few decades. The significance of understanding them is huge explains Dalessandro,’because they not only help us to test cosmological models of the formation of the Universe due to their age but also provide natural laboratories for studying the formation, evolution, and chemical enrichment of galaxies.’ Understanding the physical processes behind their formation was key to understanding how they evolve. This was the goal of their study which revealed for the first time that globular cluster form through multiple star formation events.  Source : The first 3D view of the formation and evolution of globular clusters The post Globular Clusters Evolve in Interesting Ways Over Time appeared first on Universe Today.

Post Malone Responding “Yes Sir” To Everything Chris Stapleton Says Is Just So Wholesome

So wholesome. Post Malone once again proves that he's one of the most down-to-earth guys in country music. Since releasing his debut country album, F-1 Trillion, Post Malone has gained the respect of many country music heavy hitters. He enlisted a star-studded list of features for the album, including Hank Williams Jr., Tim McGraw, Morgan Wallen, HARDY, and more. Having that list of artists is impressive, but even more remarkable is that everyone on that list has nothing but high praise for the Texas native. Everyone loves Post Malone. While many viral clips show how good Post Malone is to his fans, one interview clip amplifies why his country music colleagues love him. During the CMA Awards, Chris Stapleton and Post Malone lit up the stage with an electric performance of their duet "California Sober." The two kicked off the awards show with a bang, and in my opinion, it was one of the standout performances from the evening. Ahead of taking the stage together, the two men talked about what it was like working together on "California Sober." Stapleton said that their time writing together felt very natural, and given that they had never met prior to their writing session, the track came together rather quickly. "We got together to write a song, and we were there for twelve hours, or something, start to finish, and the record was made in that moment. It was a very organic, nice thing." Before Stapleton continues, Malone interjects, sharing his nervousness about writing with Stapleton. "I was terrified to hang with Chris. He's just the best. You're one of the men of all time."   Stapleton laughs at Malone's statement, unsure how to receive the compliment. While Stapleton might now view himself the way that Malone does, he views Malone as a great songwriter. "We had a lot of fun. You know he's a great writer and a great artist. And you know there was a lot of mutual respect in the room, and we just had a big time, and it came out how it came out."  The way that Malone reacts to all of these compliments shows how great of a dude he is. Everything Stapleton says, praising him, is followed by a "Thank you, sir." Even when Stapleton looked at Malone for confirmation that the story of their songwriting session was correct, Malone would validate him with a "Yes, sir." His momma must be PROUD. His response reflects his Southern roots and his respect for Chris Stapleton. He sees it as a true honor to stand alongside him on stage. Later in the interview, Post Malone tries to joke around with Stapleton about getting him to dance during their performance: "Sing the song; I'll shake my ass a little bit. Maybe we will get Chris gyrating, a little percolation." But when Stapleton jokingly shoots the idea down, Malone responds again with a "Yes, sir," like a little kid in trouble. It's so wholesome. This has to be the most tender moment from the CMA Awards. We need to protect Post Malone at all costs. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hsj80zEt-hQ

It’s Officially Time For Alan Jackson Christmas Music

It’s Officially Time For Alan Jackson Christmas Music

Turkeys have been stuffed, football has been watched, pies have been eaten, and America as a whole is sitting in a food coma stupor with the remnants of Thanksgiving dinner being scraped onto bread for day-after sandwiches, which means one thing and one thing only... It's time for Alan Jackson Christmas music. I get why some people are against Christmas music. For the most part you hear the same songs over and over again for a month whether you're tuning into your local soft rock radio station or running to the grocery store, but real country music lovers know there's a bunch of quality Christmas music out there for your listening pleasure. Megan Moroney already put out a Christmas EP titled Blue Christmas... Duh, Riley Green got us all feeling sentimental with "Christmas To Me", and Toby Keith's iconic performance of the Roger Miller classic "Little Toy Trains" was remastered and rereleased on an updated version of Christmas to Christmas, which was originally released in 1995 but has long been out of print and not available on any streaming services until this year. Those are just some of the new Christmas projects from this year but we've got a bunch already out that are truly special. A Cody Johnson Christmas, Carrie Underwood's My Gift, Koe Wetzel Presents... Wetzel's Wonderland, and all the rest on Whiskey Riff's Country Christmas Songs That Don't Suck playlist come to mind immediately, but there's one country Christmas album that is a clear stand out from the rest. Let It Be Christmas Of the country music legends that are still with us, Alan Jackson is truly one of a dwindling kind. The Newnan, Georgia native has solidified himself as one of the greatest neo-traditional artists of all-time, with songs like "Chattahoochee", "Drive (For Daddy Gene)", and "Remember When" becoming key pieces of the modern day country music canon. Unfortunately, Jackson has to call it quits way earlier than everyone, including him, would have liked due to a Charcot-Marie-Tooth diagnosis, which is a degenerative nerve disease that affects his arms and legs, making it difficult to stand and walk. His Last Call: One More For The Road tour runs through May 2025 and it's going to be a concert you don't want to miss. Not only is it probably the last time you'll be able to see Alan Jackson live, he's bringing some great talent, such as Megan Moroney and Zach Top with him to open the show. So make sure you grab your tickets before it's too late... While AJ's catalogue is top to bottom rock solid, I'll forever be partial to his 2002 Let It Be Christmas album. It was actually the second holiday project of his career but contains some of the best covers you've ever heard and one of the best Christmas originals in the title track. A solo-write by Alan Jackson, "Let It Be Christmas" captures the essence of what cold weather, family, and end of year festivities mean to so many of us. A simple but beautiful song, it's an absolute staple in my Christmas rotation and should be for you too Let it be Christmas everywhere Let heavenly music fill the air Let every heart sing Let every bell ring The story of hope and joy and peace And let it be Christmas everywhere Let heavenly music fill the air Let anger and fear and hate disappear Let there be love that lasts through the year And let it be Christmas, Christmas everywhere https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zwJ4SwxEvb8 The project also contains many traditional Christmas songs, such as "Silent Night", "Away In A Manger", and "The Christmas Song", but I'll always be partial to "O Come, All Ye Faithful". Maybe it's the fact I grew up singing in our church choir or that my grandpa used to walk around the house belting it out, but I'll always smile and feel a bit of warmth inside when I hear it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=efkI92XYMXs I'm a firm believer in not doing anything Christmas until after Thanksgiving, and now that turkey day is behind us, it's full steam ahead for trees, lights, cookies, and presents. Tis the season folks, so crank up some Alan Jackson get your Christmas spirits flowing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dqu_cg2XpEE
