Illegal Immigrant Shoots Texas Police Officer After Being Released By Border Patrol: Report

A Texas police officer was shot multiple times on Sunday during a shootout with a 25-year-old Venezuelan national who entered the U.S. illegally and had been released by Border Patrol, Fox News reported. The shootout began after officers from the San Antonio Police Department responded to a domestic violence call around 3 a.m. and ended with the suspect, Jorge Chacon-Gutierrez, dead, and an officer wounded. The officer is expected to survive after undergoing surgery on Sunday. It was unclear if the suspect was killed by return fire from police or if he committed suicide, according to Fox News. Chacon-Gutierrez illegally entered the U.S. in November 2023 and was apprehended by Border Patrol in Eagle Pass, Texas, according to law enforcement officials. He was then released into the country with a court date set for April 2026. SAPD Chief William McManus said, “When officers arrived, they learned that a female victim had been assaulted by her boyfriend. When officers went into the apartment, he was lying in bed with a rifle by his side.” A SWAT team entered the apartment and found the suspect, who was later pronounced dead, KSAT reported. The female victim in the domestic violence call was not seriously injured, according to police. SCOOP: Per multiple law enforcement sources, the suspect who shot a San Antonio police officer w/ a rifle this morning is a Venezuelan illegal alien who was caught by Border Patrol in Eagle Pass, TX last November & was released into the US w/ his next court date in April 2026.… pic.twitter.com/Z9xScZZwoQ — Bill Melugin (@BillMelugin_) July 28, 2024 Illegal immigration remains a top issue heading into the 2024 election, especially after Vice President Kamala Harris — who President Joe Biden put in charge of addressing the immigration crisis in 2021 — became the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee. Last week, the House — with the help of six Democrats — passed a resolution condemning “the Biden Administration and its Border Czar, Kamala Harris’s, failure to secure the United States border.” Throughout his 2024 campaign, former President Donald Trump has focused on the numerous violent crimes committed by illegal immigrants against American citizens during Biden and Harris’ time in the White House. Just this year, illegal immigrants have been charged in the murders of Georgia nursing student Laken Riley, Michigan woman Ruby Garcia, Maryland woman Rachel Morin, and most recently, Nashville restaurant and bar owner Matt Carney. Last week, Trump told Fox News host Jesse Watters that he would have “no choice” but to conduct mass deportations if he took back the White House. “We have no choice, we have to get the criminals out,” Trump said. “These are murderers. These are drug dealers. These are people that will take women and put them in the trunk of a car and sell them to the highest bidder, they’ll come across the border, human traffickers. Actually, it’s almost as big as the drug trade. Now, you wouldn’t even believe this. And the reason is because of the internet. The internet has made that into a massive business, human trafficking, it’s mostly in women.” Trump says mass deportations are a hard thing to do, but we have no choice. “We have to get the criminals out. These are murderers, these are drug dealers, there are people that will take women and put them in the trunk of a car and sell them to the highest bidder.” He blames the… pic.twitter.com/8sceymbhue — Jesse Watters (@JesseBWatters) July 24, 2024

Blinken: U.S. Has ‘Serious Concerns’ That Venezuela Election Results Don’t Match ‘The Votes’

Secretary of State Antony Blinken voiced concern over the authenticity of Venezuela’s presidential election after the country’s electoral commission declared President Nicolás Maduro the winner. Speaking Monday in Tokyo at a meeting of Indo-Pacific nations, Blinken expressed skepticism about the reliability of the official results out of Venezuela shortly after the commission proclaimed Maduro had won. “We’ve seen the announcement just a short while ago by the Venezuelan electoral commission. We have serious concerns that the result announced does not reflect the will or the votes of the Venezuelan people,” Blinken said. “It’s critical that every vote be counted fairly and transparently, that election officials immediately share information with the opposition and electoral observers without delay, and that the electoral authorities publish detailed tabulation of votes,” he added. “The international community is watching this very closely and will respond accordingly.” ? #Venezuela: Statements by Anthony Blinken, U.S. Secretary of State, on the announcement of Nicolás Maduro's victory pic.twitter.com/LWTRADkmVd — VOZ (@Voz_US) July 29, 2024 Venezuela’s National Electoral Council, controlled by the socialist Maduro regime, announced after hours of delay early Monday morning that Maduro had won the national election with 51.2 percent of the vote. Maduro’s chief opposition, Edmundo González, had lost with 44.2 percent. The commission refused to release tallies from polling booths, and the announcement brought widespread skepticism from opposition parties in Venezuela and leaders around the world. The election was plagued with irregularities and widespread potential violations of law, according to The New York Times. Opposition leader Maria Corina Machado, who was blocked from running in the election, called the official election results “impossible.” She said that voting tallies obtained from about 40 percent of polling places across the country showed an “overwhelming” amount of support for González, whose campaign was run by Machado. Maduro celebrated the electoral commission’s announcement, declaring victory amid questions surrounding the election’s results. “In this new term that you have given me, I pledge that I will put my life on the line to transform Venezuela and lead us toward a prosperous future of economic growth, peace and social happiness,” Maduro told reporters at the Miraflores presidential palace, according to NPR. The 61-year-old Maduro, whose presidency began in 2013, has served two terms in the high office and looks to serve another. He is facing mounting pushback from around the world, however, as Latin American leaders line up against him. The presidents of Argentina, Chile, and Brazil have called for him to step down in the wake of the election.

Kamala Harris Raises $200M in First Week of White House Campaign, Signs Up 170,000 Volunteers

Vice President Kamala Harris' campaign has made a remarkable start, raising $200 million in its first week. This impressive fundraising effort comes as Harris steps in as the likely Democratic presidential nominee following President Joe Biden's announcement that he will not seek re-election. The campaign has reported that 66% of the donations were from first-time contributors in this election cycle, showcasing a surge of new support for Harris. Kamala Harris questioned my loyalty to America. I enlisted in the Marines for this country. I went to Iraq for this country. I built a business for this country. And my running mate took a bullet for this country. What the hell has Kamala done to question our loyalty to America? pic.twitter.com/WykF5pRY4Y — JD Vance (@JDVance) July 28, 2024 In her first major fundraising event in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, Harris attracted hundreds of supporters and raised approximately $1.4 million, far exceeding the initial $400,000 target set when Biden was still considered the Democratic frontrunner. This event is part of a broader effort, with about 2,300 organizing events held in battleground states over the weekend. Harris' campaign is emphasizing grassroots support, with volunteers engaged in phone banking, canvassing, and other get-out-the-vote activities. Michael Tyler, the campaign’s communications director, noted the significant momentum and energy behind Harris, predicting a close and competitive election. Kamala Harris isn’t even black… she’s Indian. She locked up over 1,500 people for weed related crimes and then laughed about it years later. The worst VP in American History. Trump 2024 pic.twitter.com/UZZIg4KkxG — Lil Pump (@lilpump) July 28, 2024 Despite the enthusiasm among Harris supporters, the Republican camp, led by former President Donald Trump and his running mate Senator JD Vance, has ramped up efforts to portray Harris as a far-left politician out of touch with mainstream America. Vance dismissed Harris' initial fundraising success as a temporary bump, while Trump and his allies have criticized her positions on law enforcement and abortion. Harris, a staunch advocate for abortion rights, has signaled that this issue will be a central plank of her campaign, contrasting sharply with the Republican stance. Trump and his allies are focusing on what they see as the failures of the Biden administration, including the chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan and Harris' handling of Middle Eastern conflicts. As the campaign progresses, both sides are preparing for an intense battle in key swing states. With just 100 days until Election Day, Harris' team is leveraging the early fundraising success and volunteer support to build a robust ground game. The campaign’s next steps will likely focus on maintaining momentum and addressing the critiques from the opposition. Community Holds Personal Dog Show For Special Member Of Assisted Living Facility

When the dog show community found out they had a former member at a local assisted living facility, they decided that they needed to do something special for him. Dog shows had been a really big part of the man’s life. In fact, he’d been showing Weimaraners for over 35 years! It was high time that he get another chance to participate in one of these events. Unfortunately, this elderly man couldn’t go out and about like he used to. However, the dog show community was able to organize a competition at his assisted living facility! Over 30 people brought their prized pooches to this heartwarming gathering. One participant shared the sweetest footage from the event, along with an explanation of how it all came about. @louiegthecorgi For the hate the show community gets, you can’t deny that there are good people too what a special event! #showdogs #akc #dogshow #dogcompetition #corgi #corgidog #corgisoftiktok #purebreddogs #ethicalbreeding #cardiganwelshcorgi #cardi #dogtok #dogcommunity ♬ The Kite Live by Luisa Marion – luisa_marion_music “The dog show community really showed up today,” they wrote on social media. “A fellow dog show exhibitor works for a hospice service and found out a patient of a local assisted living facility had shown Weimaraners for 35+ years. He had the opportunity to use their ‘memorable moments’ program (like Make-A-Wish) and bring the dog show to him!” Commenters were so touched by this incredible gesture. They were really impressed with how far the dog show community was willing to go for this elderly man at an assisted living facility! “This deserves so much attention,” wrote one user. “Genuinely one of the sweetest things I’ve seen a community come together to do. Small scale doesn’t mean small impact!!” Everyone loved seeing these adorable dogs! Screengrab from TikTok As the original poster revealed in the comments section, the dog show at the assisted living facility cheered up a lot of elderly residents. “Any time I glanced over there was someone petting or smiling at a dog!!” they said. We can learn two very important lessons from this wonderful act of kindness. One, small communities can make a big difference in someone’s life. Two, dogs make everyone’s day better, period.
