Chloe Cole, a detransitioner who is outspoken about the harms of child transgender medical interventions, reacted Monday to Elon Musk saying he “lost” his son to gender ideology. The Tesla founder said he was “tricked” into putting his son on puberty blockers, and the “woke mind virus” figuratively killed his child in an interview with Dr. Jordan Peterson on DailyWire+ which premiered live Monday afternoon. Cole said Musk’s experience reminded her of her family’s experience with the psychologists and physicians they were seeing at the time. “They really drilled this idea hard into my mom and dad that if I were denied this, if I weren’t allowed to medically transition at the young age that I was — I was 13 when I started the medical process — that I would commit suicide, that I would be gone,” Cole said in a video posted to X, formerly Twitter, which Musk bought in 2022. Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump revealed more details about his phone call with President Joe Biden after the attempt on Trump’s life during a campaign rally in Butler County, Pennsylvania, earlier this month. Trump and his running mate, Sen. JD Vance (R-OH), sat down with Fox News host Jesse Watters for an interview that aired on Monday, and Trump told Watters that he had a “nice conversation” with the 81-year-old president after the shooting. “He said, ‘You’re lucky you turned to the right,’” Trump said of his chat with Biden. Last week, Biden told NBC News’ Lester Holt that he had a “very cordial” conversation with Trump after the assassination attempt. “I told him how concerned I was and wanted to make sure I knew how he was actually doing,” Biden said. “He sounded good. He said he was fine, and he thanked me for calling.” “I told him he was literally in the prayers of Jill and me, and his whole family was weathering this,” the president added. Trump was shot in the right ear after he slightly turned his head to look at a chart on illegal immigration statistics. Analysis of the shooting and the path of the bullet has shown if Trump had not moved his head at that moment, the bullet would have likely hit his brain. The 20-year-old shooter gained access to a roof fewer than 150 yards away from the stage at Trump’s Pennsylvania rally on July 13 and was spotted by Secret Service snipers 20 minutes before he fired upon the former president, according to law enforcement officials. While Trump expressed his gratitude to the Secret Service agents who rushed to his aid on the stage after he went down, he questioned how the gunman successfully got multiple shots off at such a close distance. In a post on Truth Social on Tuesday morning, Trump blasted the White House over the assassination attempt, writing, “The Biden/Harris Administration did not properly protect me, and I was forced to take a bullet for Democracy. IT WAS MY GREAT HONOR TO DO SO!” Trump also told the Fox News host that Secret Service agents wanted to put him on a stretcher after he had been shot, but he told them that he was fine to stand up and walk on his own. “They had a stretcher, and they wanted to put me on a stretcher,” Trump said. “And I said, ‘I’m not going on a stretcher.'” “I said, ‘I’m telling you, I’m OK. I’m fine. I’m going to get up. I want to get up. I’m not going to be taken out on a stretcher,’” he added. Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle was grilled by Congress on Monday over her agency’s failure to prevent the assassination attempt on Trump. During the hearing, Republicans and Democrats urged her to resign, and she announced on Tuesday that she would step down from her position. “Somebody should’ve made sure there was nobody on that roof. That roof was a dead aim right onto the stage,” Trump told Watters. “And they said they didn’t have the manpower for it, which is crazy. A hundred thirty yards is like sinking a one-foot putt. It’s considered really close.” “You have to answer: why couldn’t I have stayed off the stage for five minutes while they do their work?” he added. “Why couldn’t, you know, how does a situation happen where a roof that’s plainly in sight from the location where I was speaking … why would somebody not have seen that?”

Singer Beyoncé reportedly gave Vice President Kamala Harris permission to use her song “Freedom” during her newly announced presidential campaign. Per CNN, a source close to Harris revealed that the team asked to use the song from the 2016 album “Lemonade.” Harris walked out to the song just hours later during her first official visit to her campaign headquarters.  The single features Kendrick Lamar and includes the lyrics, “Freedom, Freedom/Where are you?/‘Cause I need freedom, too/I break chains all by myself/Won’t let my freedom rot in hell/Hey! I’ma keep running/‘Cause a winner don’t quit on themselves.” Beyoncé has not officially endorsed Harris for president, but she does have a history of putting support behind Democratic candidates.  She sang the national anthem at President Barack Obama’s inauguration in 2013 and performed with her husband, Jay-Z, at a pre-election concert for Hillary Clinton in 2016. “I want my daughter to grow up seeing a woman lead our country and knowing that her possibilities are limitless,” the Grammy Award-winning singer said at the time, per CNN. “And that’s why I am with her.” Beyoncé also publicly endorsed Biden ahead of the 2020 election. While the recording artist hasn’t endorsed Harris for president yet, her mother voiced support for the VP on social media. In 2020, Harris walked out to Mary J. Blige’s 2007 song “Work That” for her victory speech after she and Biden won the election. The VP also got the support of British pop singer Charli XCX, who posted the slogan “Kamala IS Brat” in reference to her current album. Harris’ campaign staffers reposted the endorsement on social media plus started using the album’s neon green color and making “Brat”-themed memes. According to Charli, the term “brat” conceptually represents someone who might have “a pack of cigs, a Bic lighter and a strappy white top with no bra.” The musician was discovered on Myspace in 2008 and is popular with Gen Z.

President Joe Biden plans to speak to the American public from the White House on Wednesday evening, in his first public address since he announced that he was ending his re-election bid. “Tomorrow evening at 8 PM ET, I will address the nation from the Oval Office on what lies ahead, and how I will finish the job for the American people,” Biden said in a post to X on Tuesday. Biden posted a letter to X on Sunday that said he was exiting the 2024 race, in which he was poised for a rematch against former President Donald Trump, but would stay on as president. “I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term,” Biden said. Allies had been applying intense pressure on Biden, 81, to drop out after a fumbling debate performance late last month spurred concerns about his mental acuity and electability. The decision to bow out followed the White House saying last week that Biden tested positive for COVID and would cut short a campaign swing out West. Biden spent days isolating at his vacation home in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, and his doctor said on Monday that the president had nearly recovered from COVID. A schedule released late on Monday said Biden would return to the White House on Tuesday afternoon and receive his daily briefing. Shortly after saying he was no longer seeking a second term, Biden endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris to become the Democratic Party’s presidential nominee. “Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year. Democrats — it’s time to come together and beat Trump,” he said. Harris has since gathered the support of enough delegates to win the nomination, although the process remains open, and another challenger could emerge before voting begins. As Harris visited her campaign headquarters in Wilmington, Delaware, on Monday, Biden called in and offered some assurances. “I’m not going anywhere. And I want you to know … you’ve always had my back. I promise you, I will always have your back,” Biden said.

Secret Service Director Kim Cheatle announced on Tuesday that she was resigning her post after failing to stop an assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump — and Trump responded in the immediate aftermath of her decision. Cheatle’s resignation came just 24 hours after lawmakers on both sides of the aisle grilled her for the series of security failures that led to Trump’s would-be assassin attaining access to an elevated position with a clear line of sight to the stage. In addition to wounding Trump, he killed firefighter Corey Comperatore and gravely injured two others. Fox News reporter Brooke Singman shared a statement from the former president, who was shot in the ear at his July 13 campaign rally, shortly after Cheatle’s resignation was made public. “EXCLUSIVE: I spoke to @realDonaldTrump on the resignation of #SecretService Director Cheatle. Michael Waltz (R-FL) asserted that requests from the Trump camp for more security had been rebuffed or ignored — and Secret Service Spokesman Anthony Guglielmi flatly denied the veracity of such claims. However, within days, additional reports indicated that Trump had, in fact, been denied additional security for large events, as Waltz had said.

Karen Read, the Massachusetts woman accused of killing her police officer boyfriend, will face a second jury on January 2025 after her first trial ended in a mistrial. The new trial date was set for January 27, 2025, and comes just a couple of weeks after a jury couldn’t decide whether Read killed her boyfriend by drunkenly backing into him with her vehicle or whether she was framed by her boyfriend’s colleagues, People Magazine reported. During the hearing to determine the new trial date, broadcast by Boston 10, the defense brought up its motion to dismiss the charges against Read, but the judge ruled that a hearing for that motion would take place on August 9. Read, 44, has maintained that she did not kill her boyfriend but that he was killed by fellow Boston police officers who then framed her. A jury couldn’t come to a conclusion one way or the other after five days of deliberation, the Associated Press reported, so Judge Beverly Cannone declared a mistrial. John O’Keefe was a Boston police officer who lived in Canton, Massachusetts, since 2014 to raise his niece and nephew, who had been orphaned after O’Keefe’s sister died of a brain tumor and her husband died of a heart attack shortly after. Read, an adjunct professor at Bentley University, lived in Mansfield, Massachusetts, but had been dating O’Keefe since 2020 and regularly staying in Canton to help O’Keefe with the children, Boston Magazine reported. On January 28, 2022, Read and O’Keefe traveled to the Waterfall Bar & Grille in Canton after drinking at another pub. At the Waterfall, O’Keefe saw some of his friends and joined them with Read in tow. Chris Albert, O’Keefe’s neighbor and the town selectman, along with Chris’ brother Brian, another Boston Police Department officer, and Jennifer McCabe, Brian’s sister-in-law. The five chatted and drank until midnight, when the bar was about to close, and Brian suggested they all go to his house. O’Keefe wanted to go, but Read was tired and tipsy and unsure about continuing the party. She agreed to at least drive O’Keefe to Brian’s house. After dropping him off, she decided to go home but said that she woke up alone at 4:30 a.m. and worried about where her boyfriend was. She didn’t have McCabe’s number, so she woke up O’Keefe’s then 14-year-old niece to ask her to call McCabe’s daughter, with whom she was friends. McCabe said she didn’t know where O’Keefe was and called Chris Albert’s wife to see if O’Keefe had passed out at their house, but she said he hadn’t. At the same time, Read called O’Keefe’s friend Kerry Roberts, who also had not seen O’Keefe. Read, McCabe, and Roberts met up to look for O’Keefe, with Read in the backseat of Roberts’ car screaming about how O’Keefe was missing, Boston Magazine reported. A blizzard had rolled through town the night before, and it was still snowing as the women drove in the darkness. They drove to Brian Albert’s home, and Read immediately said she saw O’Keefe and jumped out of the car to rush to his side, even though it was completely dark outside. O’Keefe was lying in the snow, ice-cold, and Read began performing CPR. He had blood on his face and two black eyes, while his hat and shoes were missing. McCabe brought blankets to warm him up and called 911. It was 6:04 a.m. Read cried and repeatedly asked if she had hit O’Keefe. An ambulance took O’Keefe to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 7:50 a.m. Read was soon arrested and taken to jail, charged with manslaughter for allegedly hitting O’Keefe with her Lexus when she dropped him off at Brian’s house. The original charges stemmed from the belief that Read accidentally hit O’Keefe with her car. But four months later, the charges were increased to second-degree murder. Part of the change came from the allegation that Read admitted to hitting O’Keefe on the morning she found him, which was overheard by first responders and police. Read told ABC News last year, however, that she was questioning whether she could have hit him by accident. “I said, ‘I hit him’? It was preceded by a ‘Did,’ and preceded by a question mark,” she said. “What I thought could have happened was that, did I incapacitate him unwittingly, somehow, and then in his drunkenness [he] passed out?” Read’s attorney, David Yannetti, reviewed the charging documents with her and questioned whether Read really could have caused all the injuries to O’Keefe just by backing into him with her car. A medical examiner found that O’Keefe had abrasions on his right arm, two black eyes, along with cuts on his face, and a laceration to the back of his head, CNN reported. He also had several skull fractures. Police found red and clear bits of plastic near O’Keefe’s body, consistent with Read’s broken taillight. When police seized the vehicle, they found damage to the right rear tailgate. This information led police to believe Read was intoxicated and backed into O’Keefe before driving away. Soon, a tipster called Read’s attorney, Yannetti, and claimed that O’Keefe was “beaten up by Brian Albert and his nephew.” “They broke his nose, and when O’Keefe didn’t come to, Brian and a federal agent dumped his body on the front lawn,” the tipster added, Yannetti told Boston Magazine. An attorney for that tipster, however, denied Yannetti’s version of the tip to the outlet. After this call, Yannetti and Read began looking into whether O’Keefe could have been killed at the party and left out in the cold to die. Read then learned that the lead detective on the case, State Trooper Michael Proctor, was friends with the Albert family. Read already believed O’Keefe was actually beaten up at the party, but now she believed Proctor was helping to frame her, including an alleged period where Proctor had access to Read’s vehicle and may have planted evidence. Read hired Alan Jackson, another famous criminal defense attorney who had once represented Harvey Weinstein and Kevin Spacey. With Jackson’s help, the defense’s theory was able to sway enough jurors to question whether she was actually guilty.
