When American families celebrate Thanksgiving, many hearken back to the Pilgrims — who braved a brutal first year at Plymouth Bay Colony and then, after a bountiful harvest, stopped everything to give thanks to God. For years after that, many remembered those first difficult days in a new land and the years of plenty that followed — and also thanked God for rewarding their labor.
