NASA Explains What The "Daylight Fireball" Was Over New York

NASA has stepped in to explain after reports of a "daylight fireball" flying over the Statue of Liberty in New York, USA.On Tuesday, residents of New York reported a large fireball and an associated loud boom between 11:16 and 11:30 am."As I was driving down on Rte 100, I suddenly saw this bright, white and kind of burning at one end, bundle streak through the sky from left to right – going down very rapidly," one report to the American Meteor Society reads. "I have never seen anything like this before."Multiple reports came in to the American Meteor Society, and using these accounts, NASA was able to put together a rough picture of the object's trajectory, which changed as more reports came in."More eyewitness reports have been posted – we have double what we had before and the adds have made a big difference in the trajectory," NASA's Meteor Watch explained in a Facebook post. "We now have the meteor originating over New York City and moving west into New Jersey. Speed has bumped up a bit to 38,000 miles [61,155 kilometers] per hour."NASA's assessment of the bolide's trajectory.Image credit: NASA Meteor WatchCommenters seemed surprised that a meteor could have hit without NASA knowing about it, but smaller objects like this hit the Earth's atmosphere fairly frequently, with estimates suggesting that around 44,000 kilograms (97,000 pounds) of meteoric material fall on the Earth every day."Many folks are under the impression that NASA tracks everything in space," NASA's Meteor Watch continued. "We do keep track of asteroids that are capable of posing a danger to us Earth dwellers, but small rocks like the one producing this fireball are only about a foot [0.3 meters] in diameter, incapable of surviving all the way to the ground. We do not (actually cannot) track things this small at significant distances from the Earth, so the only time we know about them is when they hit the atmosphere and generate a meteor or a fireball."While NASA keeps track of the big objects that make close approaches, several smaller meteors can be seen an hour on any given night. This one was likely a bolide; a larger meteor that broke apart as it came in contact with the friction of our atmosphere. Bolides are very bright meteors that can be seen during daylight, and are usually too small to reach the ground, instead exploding upon impact with our atmosphere.Though we didn't see it coming, it's nothing to worry about, and it's pretty cool that we can piece together its trajectory from eyewitness accounts.

Mysterious UFO Fleet Spotted Over Tampere, Finland

An interesting piece of footage (see below) has surfaced, capturing what appears to be a flotilla of flickering UFOs drifting through the skies over Tampere, Finland, reports coasttocoastam.com. The intriguing scene, filmed last month, was documented by a local witness who later reported the sighting to the Finnish UFO Research Association (FUFORA). The observer described the unusual cluster of flashing objects as “swirling” in the sky near a storm cloud for “several minutes.” The witness could provide little additional information about the strange event, though they diligently ensured it was brought to the attention of UFO researchers. The footage, now circulating online, has sparked considerable speculation regarding the nature of the flashing orbs. While the extraterrestrial hypothesis remains a tantalizing possibility for some, more terrestrial explanations have been proposed. Among these are meteorological phenomena, such as ball lightning or electrically charged storm debris. Another theory posits that the flickering lights could be radar chaff, small strips of metal released during storms to confuse radar signals. Despite these plausible explanations, the true identity of the mysterious objects remains unknown. The post Mysterious UFO Fleet Spotted Over Tampere, Finland appeared first on Anomalien.com.

Morning Joe Speculates: Maybe Trump Wasn't Conservative ENOUGH For Shooter!

Morning Joe Speculates: Maybe Trump Wasn't Conservative ENOUGH For Shooter!

Mika Brzezinski opened Tuesday's Morning Joe by pointedly saying "it is VERY good to be here." That was an apparent expression of discontent with the fact that the show had been yanked off the air the day before, Morning Joe's first scheduled episode after the assassination attempt on Donald Trump. But in short order, the show aired some wild, left-partisan speculation as to the shooter's motivation. You can imagine the prospect of something like that was precisely what caused the MSNBC suits to keep Morning Joe off the air yesterday. On Tuesday's show, NBC News law enforcement correspondent Tom Winter repeatedly cautioned people not to jump to conclusions about the shooter's motive. But Winter then proceeded to pass along this bit of anonymous conjecture: "It is possible that Donald Trump—and there's a bit of a theory in law enforcement—is it possible that Trump was not conservative enough for this individual?" So be cautious, people! But, there's "a bit" of a theory among some anonymous law enforcement sources that Trump wasn't "conservative enough" for the shooter. Does speculation get much more irresponsible than that? But anything goes, apparently, for Morning Joe to try to deflect responsibility from the left. And so they aired that "bit of" a theory his morning. Yes, by all means, let's be cautious. Let's try to get the facts, and tamp down bits of "theories" tending to increase tensions in this already pressure-packed political environment.  And in that effort, Morning Joe should start with itself.  Here's the transcript. MSNBC Morning Joe 7/16/24 6:00 am EDT MIKA BRZEZINSKI: Good morning. It is VERY good to be here, and welcome to Morning Joe. It is Tuesday, July 16th. . . .  TOM WINTER: The why. And I know, and I get it, because I get the vitriol online, somebody shot at Donald Trump. What other reason could it be than some sort of a political reason? That's what people are saying.  And I think it's important to remember, first off, the last presidential shooting we had, John Hinckley Jr. did it toimpress a Hollywood actress. We've seen a number of incidents happen over the years where people thought the motive was clear, and it turned out to be a complete 180 based on the evidence. And that's where the FBI needs to go with it.  Then we found out yesterday that they had a preliminary review of the cell phone. Investigation is still ongoing, obviously. And it was really nothing on that that led them to the why. And I think that's a real challenge. In going forward here in this investigation, they're talking to the family. Every indication so far is that the family has been cooperative. But they're kind of running out of leads at this point. And so I think that they're either hoping somebody that somebody comes forward, or that they find some other piece of evidence, or a needle within needles in a haystack, to try to figure out why this happened. I will caution people that it is possible that we might never know why this individual got on the roof that day. And I would also caution people, people think, well, it's just, it's anti-Donald Trump because this person doesn't like them, because their views are on the other side of the political spectrum.  It is possible that Donald Trump—and there's a bit of a theory in law enforcement—is it possible that Trump was not conservative enough for this individual? It runs the gamut. And I think it 's important in this situation, this is the way we approach our reporting, everything's on the table. Let's figure out what authorities have. Let's do our own work, talk to our own people. You saw some of that in Kelly's piece right there. Andf from that point, we can start to piece together why this happened.

Mom of 15-year-old who died from fentanyl gives emotional speech that brings many to tears at RNC

A mother of a 15-year-old boy who died of an overdose gave a passionate and emotional speech at the Republican National Convention on Tuesday. Anne Fundner recalled the devastating loss of her son in 2022 to a captivated audience in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. 'This was not an overdose; this was a poisoning.'Fundner said her son went to church twice a week in southern California and she tried to protect him from drugs, but tragedy found her family still. "Like most teenagers, Weston wanted to fit in. And in a moment of peer pressure, he tried something that someone gave to him, and it took my baby's life," said Fundner. "We did everything right; I had those conversations with him. And fentanyl still found my son."She added, "This was not an overdose; this was a poisoning." Fundner blamed Democrats for the lax security at the border for the influx of illegal drugs into the country. "I hold Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, the 'border czar,' what a joke, and Gavin Newsom, and every Democrat who supports open borders responsible for the death of my son." She received tremendous applause after that line, and many chanted, "Joe must go!" in the hall. Fundner pointed out that fentanyl has become the number-one cause of death for Americans between 18 years old and 45 years old under Biden's watch. "This is not a red or blue issue; this is a red, white, and blue issue," she continued. "And fentanyl doesn't care if you're black or white; it does not discriminate. This is an American issue." She went on to call on Americans to vote for former President Donald Trump, who applauded in the stands. "This fight is not for me; my son is gone. This fight is for your children," she added. Fundner's speech was widely praised on social media. "I have chills watching this beautiful mom, Anne Fundner, who lost her sweet child to fentanyl, speak at the RNC. The love and support from the audience, the standing ovation is wonderful," said Kayleigh McEnany, former press secretary under Trump. The entire speech was posted to Trump's YouTube video account and can be watched here. Like Blaze News? John Wayne and the way, the truth, and the life

John Wayne and the way, the truth, and the life

It’s been an incredibly difficult week for any sane American. Thank God Donald Trump survived that assassination attempt. Human civilization was roughly an inch away from a hellish dystopia unlike anything ever imagined. A successful assassination would have decisively ended American cohesion, the limits of what our nation can endure. We’ve all spent the past few days watching that horrific yet beautiful clip of Trump rising from the ground, with blood streaming down his face, as he lifts his fist and shouts, “Fight! Fight! Fight!” It might be the most American moment of our time. But it's also good to step aside and get a breather. Westerns can heal and strengthen us. I’ll give you a personal example. I had a panic attack a few weeks ago, a pretty bad one. (I’m all better now, fresh from vacation.) Burnout, basically. Dad life, work life, friend life, family life, church life — all dialed to the max. And then there’s pressure on the macro level: Everything is so expensive, every meal costs more each time, even fast food. An economy that squeezes us all tighter, a culture of constant data and creeping darkness. Combine it all, and it just wears on a person. I am by no means alone in this. In the aftermath of the panic attack, after I caught my breath and calmed down, I put on a movie, the 1960 John Wayne Western comedy “North to Alaska.” I had started it half a dozen times and backed out immediately. That day, it had to stay on. What a wonderful film. Light, spry, fun, rowdy, and so funny. It was the perfect remedy for the haze I was under. Today's "Wednesday Western" will be a less researched one, because its message is simple: There’s something profoundly special about Westerns. They offer us support in a unique way. They have a glow, an incredible power for an art form to have. The bar scene, with the giant fight, led to the first laugh I’d had since the panic attack. Most of all, “North to Alaska” reminded me that these movies that we love are so much more than entertainment. They are friends, companions. In a certain sense, they have our backs. As I watched “North to Alaska,” it felt like God was saying, “Sit down and have a laugh, get swept up in a good story.” I apologize if this comes off preachy or too personal. The last thing I want to do is embarrass myself or my family by oversharing. I just feel that the epiphany I had is one that many of you undoubtedly know well. You, the readers, are a huge part of the reason I love writing for Align. I don’t have to hide my faith, the core of my existence, the animating spirit of my writing. If I had to do that, I would pick a different profession. Thank you for letting me be honest about my beliefs. Where to watch “North to Alaska” Amazon Prime: $3.79 to rent. AppleTV: $3.99. Google Play: $3.79. Fandango: $3.99.My little cabbage Is John Wayne’s character, Sam McCord, naive or lazy? Or is he actually one step ahead of everyone else? It's hard to tell. There are many moments of subtle humor. “Well, I’ve done the best I can. I just gotta face him.” Then his entire demeanor changes for the conclusion: “I think I’ll just lie to him.” “I wouldn’t wish this on a goat, but right now I wish you were Jenny.” “Yes,” she snarls, “a bullet to the head is always the best cure for love.” The sound effects are hilarious. Wayne’s character is incredibly pure. And part of the joy of his journey is guessing whether he knows what’s actually taking place. “Women,” he groans. “I never met one yet that was half as reliable as a horse.” Every line he speaks, every bit of dialogue, is perfect. “Why don’t you find the coldest spot in that hot creek and go sit down in it. Then change your clothes. Now beat it.” There are so many moments of delightful irony, like the scene in the cabin between a smitten Billy Pratt and our confused protagonist, Sam McCord (Wayne). “Sam, how do you know when you’re jealous?” “Ohhh, how should I know?” he barks, riddled with jealousy. “Well, I’m jealous.” This irony also adds dimensions to a complicated love story. I didn’t get drunk before … I got drunk after There are several incredible fight scenes. The long one at the claim: From this, we get the fistfight, under a waterfall, between Sam and George. Then we have a scene reminiscent of "Hondo," when Wayne’s character Hondo chucks a little fella into a pond. But unlike "Hondo," "North to Alaska" is first and foremost a comedy. And its specific brand of comedy is so refreshing, more serious than “Support Your Local Sheriff!” but sillier than “True Grit,” with none of its tragedy. The Good Book says One of my favorite Christian philosophers wrote about truth. He said that there are three entry points to truth, three cultural pathways to discover Christ: history, language, and art. We find truth through our shared history, our human language, and capacity for art. Of those three, language is the most important. Whoever has language has the world. Truth is linguistic. It exists in and through language. It is perishable, but it is forever renewable. All life moves toward the word. Language, the voice of the word, is what allows us to be free. It is what separates us from animals. It is what allows us to connect with one another. We understand ourselves and the people around us through language. The word thrives in each of us as thought. Plato described thought as the infinite dialogue between the soul and itself. As my philosopher put it, “Language has its true being only in conversation, in the exercise of understanding between people.’’ This entire process takes place through art, as well. Art — including the films that we are discussing — helps us understand ourselves, connects us to other people, and leads us to truth, to healing, to redemption. You’re good medicine Something miraculous happened during the panic attack, the reason I feel as though this movie was the medicine I needed. After the worst of the panic attack, I sat down at the kitchen table. I just sat there. The house got very quiet — a rarity in our home. I shut my eyes. Then I heard my 4-year-old’s tiny voice: “Is this yours?” She handed me an ornate bookmark that I had never seen. She ran away before I could ask where she got it. The house grew quiet again as I read the words: I am with you do not be anxious: I am your God. I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with My victorious right hand.—Isaiah 41:10 That was quite possibly the most humbling and resplendent moment of my life. I felt Christ’s arms around me. Apparently the bookmark was in a letter from a church I’ve never been to that my daughter had opened. Which she never does, by the way. And think of the timing, that she would collect the mail at that exact moment. She’s 4. She can’t read. She didn’t know what it says. And hopefully, she didn’t pick up on how much I needed that heavenly support. Nothing could have been more perfect than those words, thousands of years old, empowered by the universality of Christ. Imagine the odds. There’s no logical explanation for it. Another verse explains everything we’re discussing: "Ever since the creation of the world, God’s invisible qualities — God’s eternal power and divine nature — have been clearly seen, because they are understood through the things God has made. So humans are without excuse." —Romans 1:20 (Common English Bible)

Gigantic free FPS Enlisted is back on Steam, but this time it’s good

It’s a trite sentiment, but truly, gaming has changed. In the past, if a developer released something and people didn’t like it, that was the end of the story - bad game, didn’t sell, tough luck. Nowadays, game-makers have the chance to course correct. Such is the case with Enlisted. The longstanding WW2 FPS was pulled from Steam earlier this year after near-universal criticism of its pricing model. But it’s suddenly back, and it’s bigger, better, and everything that fans initially wanted. If you dodged Enlisted the first time around, but you’re still looking for an alternative to Battlefield or Hell Let Loose, the free shooter deserves another chance. Make sure you avoid these new AMD Ryzen 9000 motherboards for gaming

There's a new budget AMD AM5 motherboard chipset in the works, which I’d usually applaud in these times of overpriced components and high living costs, but there’s one aspect of it that caught my eye, and it’s a big red flag if you’re building a new PC, particularly for gaming. The new AMD B840 chipset only supports PCIe 3.0 for both storage and graphics cards, like it’s traveled in time from 2016, and this will seriously impact performance. It was easy to miss this announcement in the flurry of new information AMD just released about its new Ryzen 9000 CPUs, but it’s right there at the bottom of the table announcing the new lineup of motherboard chipsets. That limit to the aging PCIe 3.0 interface doesn’t only mean you won’t be able to run the best graphics cards at full speed on this new chipset, but you won’t be able to get the most out of the best SSDs either. Halo Infinite dev denies rumor about the future of the series

One Halo Infinite developer has put the rumor that 343 Industries is stepping back from making the series to rest, as the community waits to hear more about Halo 7 - or whatever it'll end up being called. A new report alleges that the Halo series is changing production going forward, with 343 working on just the concept and pre-production stages in-house, before handing off full production to other studios. It's not even the first time 343 has had to deny rumors like this either.
